Can't download / upgrade large apps - LG Revolution

I get "Insufficient space" errors when I try to download or upgrade apps around 20 MB. This is on Gingervolt 2.0. Any ideas?

Try clearing the Dalvik cache in recovery or you can clear cache and data for the market by going to Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>Market

As an aside, every time I clear cache in recovery, I have to set up my account again. Is that normal?

Not for wiping the cache partition. That should only happen if you wipe data.

I have been having this problem too, wiping the caches doesn't seem to help me so far. If I delete out a few files from the cache with ES I can download and update the apps. But I need to do that every time.

*sigh* ok stupid me. Wiping cache / dalvik cache from recovery didn't help me either since they both filled right back up when i rebooted the phone.
So then I tried wiping them manually from ConnectBot, but I did a rm -rf /cache/. Although this did allow me to download the apps without the insufficient memory error, this seemed to crash the package installer, and I tried to reboot. Now my phone boot loops ...
Yeah, so is there any way to fix it from here? How can I get back to recovery from a boot loop? And how would I repair the cache cand dalvik-cache partitions? Any ideas?

Pull the battery
Use volume down and power and hold both until you see the "wipe data" screen.
Confirm with power button
Confirm with power again
*this doesnt actually wipe anything*
Now you will boot into recovery, from there, either restore a backup (hopefully you made one recently) or reflash gingervolt without wiping anything.

Any ideas on the space issue?

I finally backed up, wiped data and reinstalled gingervolt 2.0. So far this seems to have fixed my issue.

You probably removed the cache directory, which made android fail to use it when booting.
Usually the dalvik-cache, which gets recreated on every reboot, is stored in there.
If your device is rooted you should have a look at "SD Maid", which will help you free some space. (link in my signature).

Major Force-Close issues - please help

Hi,
I am having major Force Close issues on multiple applications. I've posted my logcat here: http://pastebin.com/m51550315
I've tried doing a system wipe, installing the Android 1.6 Recovery image, installing the latest cyanogenmod MOD, wiping Dalvik cache and running fix_permissions but I get the same problems. When I follow these steps I am missing all of the Google apps and when I try to install them I get error messages saying that they can't be installed.
Is there anywhere else besides Dalvik cache that retains settings that will throw my phone off? It seems like even after doing the system wipe and Dalvik-cache clear there is something causing problems.
I have a Rogers G1 but followed Haykuro's root guide to change my radio image so that I don't need a custom kernel.
what exactly is the dalvik cache

A place where the system writes things about your apps. Every app you've ever had installed gets it's own little file in the dalvik-cache, wiping the dalvik-cache tends to fix issues with apps.
But wiping my Dalvik cache didn't solve the problem which is why I want to know if there is another cache that needs to be cleared or a better way to wipe previous data.
You could try to wipe the /data/data/

Iam in no way a dev or mildly knowledgeable about these things really, So DO NOT CARRY THIS OUT, IT IS MEANT TO POSSIBLY POINT OUT SOMETHING (Possibly) TO OTHERS WHO ARE MORE SAVVY............
Is signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721 Needed?

Sweet! Knew someone would know better then me!
Back under my rock I go...
I tried deleting /data/data, /data/dalvik-cache, reinstalling the 1.6 recovery, the latest Cyanogen ROM and then running fix_permissions but I'm still getting errors. I even get an error trying to open settings: "Sorry! The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Is there anything else I should try clearing?
With everything you try, your ext partition is untouched. There is something left in there messing you up. Reformat your sd card. Then flash the HTC recovery, then Cyanogen, and you should be set.
BACKUP anything you want to keep on the sdcard first.
How do I know if my sd card has an ext partition? I haven't used apps2sd. When I get home from work I'm going to try a new sd card.
I tried a new sd card but that didn't have any effect. I cleared my dalvik cache and wiped /data/data and then updated my Cyanongenmod from 4.2.11.1 to 4.2.12.2 and the Force Close problems were solved.
I have some new problems now:
When I try to install apps I get the message "(application name) could not be installed on this phone"
I can't receive calls
My screen doesn't lock when I press the End Call button
My Home button doesn't return me to the Home screen
I'm guessing there is still something stored during updates. Any ideas?

I think you can probably fix this by flashing the HTC recovery image the CM 4.2.12.2 (probably do not need to wipe, but it would not hurt).

I've tried that and it didn't help. I've tried wiping, not wiping, using the defanged image, using the HTC recovery and I'm always missing the google apps.

htc dictionary

Hello Everyone
Is there any way at all to access the dictionary that HTC uses? I have the HTC_IMD Mod keyboard which has in the settings menu access to user dictionary but I do not think this is the full list of user added dictionary items.
If I can't edit individual items add or delete is there a way to flush the user dictionary completely and have it start from fresh? I ask because I have noticed when switching between roms and if both roms have the HTC_IMD Mod the user added dictionary seems to presist between roms even after a wipe of data and cache
Thats weird usually a full wipe kills everything

Yep I did all those things. The only one I wasn't' able to do was wipe dalvik cache. When I tried to do so through the recovery menu an error occurred and it told me to use adb wipe dalvik. So I tried that but when I typed adb wipe dalvik the help page came up describing the adb commands and it doesn't seem as though wipe is one of them.
How do you wipe the cache through adb?

[Q] I can't download Extreme Formula?

I am trying to download this app from the market: http://www.appbrain.com/app/extreme-formula/com.GOGN.EFAndroid
And it just cancels by itself when I start downloading it. Any ideas?
The app is quite big 50MB but I have more than 1GB free on my app partition.
I am running Serendipity 6.2 ROM.
Anyone? :/
Reboot into recovery and wipe your cache.
Which Cache? Dalvik?
Both caches is what I usually do just to be sure. Wipe cache on the main recovery screen, then go to advanced and wipe the dalvik as well.
I did them both still made no difference. :[ App works on my other android device.

Constant android.process.media force closes [CM7.0.3] [4/24OC][verygreen SD]

Does anyone have any advice? My system was very stable, then I upgraded my uboot and flashed the 3.1 beta. The beta performed terribly, so I flashed back to the build in the title, and now all these force closes. I did install Pure Messenger and Pulse in the meantime and put up some widgets.
I'm planning to try out Phiremod on eMMC and see how that works out, but if there's a fix for this issue, I'd like to try it out. I have CWM on eMMC, but I'm thinking if I clear caches in there, it will be the caches in my stock OS install on eMMC, correct? Can I point it to the SD install?

Boot into Clockwork. Under Mounts / Storage wipe cache, then go into "advanced" and wipe dalvik cache (will cause your device to lock & need hard reboot). Then boot your machine as normal. Load time will be a little on the long side because your Nook will be rebuilding cache...perfectly normal. This has to be done when going back to the stables from the Beta CM7.

But again, with CWM on eMMC and CM7 on SD, won't that wipe the caches for the stock install on eMMC rather than for CM7?
That method did not work, btw, I'm guessing because it wasn't wiping the caches for the ROM on the card. Any way to do this for a verygreen SD install?

In terminal emulator, su then rm /data/dalvik-cache/*
Just go to settings, applications, manage application, in the all tab, find "media storage" if I remembered correctly, then go in and clear data, reboot then you should be fine.

Cache and Dalvik cache

Have been using JB ROM from Elitemovil for two months now and noticed that the phone is now slower than before.
Can I just delete the Cache and Dalvik cache from CWM recovery and count that all things and programs will work fine after I restart the phone?
And - BTW, can both cache's be deleted anytime without any future problems with installed programs or any other setting?
Will these cachees be automatically rebuild during boot process?

Dalvik cache is associate with the booting of the phone... deleting it will generally not affect the performance of the phone and nor will it cause any problems with the installed apps and settings...
Deleting cache may improve the performance of the apps whose cache will be cleared.. Don't think that it'll make any major difference though..
Dalvik cache is rebuilt when you power on your phone after clearing dalvik cache.. the other cache is built as you use your applications.

What the hell is wrong with you?! Every time I open a topic in this section you advise people to wipe their phones. That's not what "help" means. Looks like you're a little post farmer...
