What did your phone endure? - Off-topic

I have an LG Optimus One and it felt in milk ( In the cereal bowl ), and it's as good as new and it smells nice + it hit the floor about 10 times and it has only 2 little scratches. Mine works perfect and looks as new. How about yours?

Mine simply walked into Mordor.

The galaxy s ii didn't survive one day. Got it on new yrs eve. Pulled it out and that's what it looked like. That was a crazy night. The guys at the store said they have only seen one other one break. He then went to the display and hit it with his keys over and over and over. Same thing I did with my galaxy s. Never broke.
But the phone that takes the cake is my HTC fuze. I've had to dig that out of the wall twice when I threw it. Fell from a second story balcony. It was indestructible.
- this sig is just so I don't have to write 10char when on my phone -

My phone has been through a lot. I've accidentally dropped it so many times without a case. It slid in the street face down once when it fell out my hand when i was crossing the street. No damage was done minus the shell was a little scuffed.

I have to agree on the fuze. Went flying many times. I still have mine. The battery expanded to it doesn't work, I'll just need a new battery though.

This. I threw it. Still functions normally.

Oh I forgot to mention the captivate, ATT's version of the galaxy s, was made of metal. Great build quality samsung. What happened. But that phone was my swiss army knife. It opened beer bottles, crushed pills, made dust of stuff, ect. Used it to tap on people's heads. It was quite the brick.

My x10 has been through a lot
lots of accidental falls.
usage in rain
has even fell on the road during rain with its battery out.
came home put the battery back and It still works flawless
very strongly built

Dropped my SGS into a large McDonalds latte...... Survived, but charging/power issues only disappeared after changing to gb bootloaders.
Also survived 2 weeks of testing steam kernel.
She's a good ol bus!

I don't know how many times my old Galaxy Spica endured being accidently dropped while riding my bike, but 3 hours in mom's bag it couldn't....

I work in a deep-freeze warehouse (-30f or so), but my galaxy s2 is usually under a few layers of specialized gear I wear, so nothing more than a bit of condensation when I go back out where its warmer.

What's the stupidest thing you've done with/to your phone?

I just had to share this. I heard that the S2 has Gorilla Glass... so I naturally assumed that it was indestructible. I told my brother nothing could scratch it. So I found something sharp and he went at it for 20 seconds. After a quick inspection, I found no scratches. After closer inspection, I found minor scratches. Well, I felt them. So, it does scratch and now I'm stuck with these little hairline scratches. Oh well I guess...

Not me... But once, my friends and I went to an ice rink just for fun. A hockey game was going on and we decided to watch. As we were sitting there, we realized there was a net that goes around the glass. He decided it would be fun to take video on his phone while bouncing it on the net. Eventually, after doing this for several minutes, his phone went THROUGH the net, onto the ice, and shattered... During the game. Idiot...
I bought a mint condition HTC hd2 a few months back, it was pristine... never even had anything flashed on it. That night I went out to eat and dropped it from the dinner table to the concrete floor at Texas roadhouse. Of course it shattered. I replaced the screen and sold it on here to our friend cajunflavoredbob at a $60 loss. I almost cried when I dropped it. :')
What are they selling!? CHOCOLATE!!

MIUI?
Forced the Magic for a broadcomm wlan kernel object for the HTC DesireHD to try to fix non functioning wifi, It was one commit short, what harm could it possibly do. Sent the driver to the phone. insmod, Instant Reset. it doesn't end there, LOL.
Turns out that one extra commit fixed a null reference pointer in the driver. The same null ref ptr that cause a kernel panic with a 5 second shutdown notification. The wlan driver is one on the first things checked when the device starts.
Did I mention the Volume rocker was non functioning and "adb reboot bootloader" was just not quick enough to win the race.
Stripped it down to get at the volume pads.... longish story short.... A flashing power led and lsusb reporting a vendorid that matched Qualcomm, does not a happy device make.
Turns out I'm not Paul Daniels ( David Copperfield for non UK readers ) and I should leave the magic to the kernel.

[PSA] Your N5 May Turn Into a Gnex...

Mine did. Had it in my back pocket (stupid, I know, but I'm used to sticking my devices there), and next thing I knew, I had a bent n5 with backlight bleed galore. Seems this is a common problem with the iPhone, but unfortunately I expect to see more n5 users fall into my boat, as I was even being relatively careful to not put excessive weight on it while sitting (and I only weigh 160lb). Save yourself headaches and break any habits you have of putting things in your rear pockets now. :'(

No idea why someone would put their phone in their back pockets in the first place, to be honest. Seems common sense not to do that.

Your everyday carry can get out of hand fast.
5 inch phone, wallet, keys, pen, headphones, knife, flashlight Some of us may carry guns depending on the country, license status , or occupation. You can hit the need for a "man purse/satchel" very quickly. Sometimes your pants have bigger back pockets so that's where it ends up.

Every time I see someone stick their phone in their back pocket, I give them a bewildered look. Then they ask me why I'm looking at them like that, and I reply, "You actually keep your phone in your back pocket? How can you stand that?"
Goodness gracious, that has to be a chore to sit on, and I've seen a many stories where phones have been broken by being sat on.
Sounds like a human error OP, not a manufacturing error. Nothing to go creating a thread about. Most of us know sitting on your phone is not very smart....

Back in the day, I used to carry my personal Cell Phone on my hip in a case along with my pager for my work and my Palm Pre PDA. I looked like a real Techno Geek for sure. These days, I carry my work phone on my hip only. My PDA and my cell are now one and I carry that in my front pocket. Heck...I get nervous when I bend forward to tie my shoes. But...I live in Canada eh? and carry my cell in my jacket pocket or shirt pocket most of the time now. I've very aware of it at all times as I do not want an accident to happen. Putting it in my back pocket and sitting on it makes me twitch just thinking of it!
Yeah, I never understood the reasoning behind putting a phone in your back pocket. I was always amazed to see someone pull a phone out of their back pocket and see it still turn on.
Something I'd never do though. If needs be I'll just carry a bag, TBH.

My N4 took a dive...

...in the washing machine, for the full cycle!
But it survived!!
I discovered it in the washing machine the other night while looking to charge it. So I took it out of the case and shoved it in a box of Minute Rice we had in the cupboard and let it sit there overnight. The battery was dead when I got home from work earlier that day so I wasn't worried too badly. Anyway, I took it to work and disassembled it (thanks iFixit), washed all the parts in 91% isopropyl alcohol, and put everything in a bag with rice for a few hours. I'm a mechanic and have a lot of side projects so this wasn't out of the ordinary for the other guys.
I started assembling the phone, cleaning the rice dust off as I went. I plugged it in before I put the back cover on just to see if it would charge; lo and behold the screen flashed on with the animated battery icon! It powered on just fine, so on went the back cover. Everything else checked out as it charged. The only issue is the screen discolored around the edges... Oh well. After the whole ordeal, I'm just happy it works.
TL;DR- N4 went through wash cycle. disassembled and cleaned, works fine, but screen discolored.
nice, my nexus 4 took a dive too once but don't worry, the ground was okay! :good:
The discoloration should go away when it drys more I believe.

is that water on the sides? if so, let it dry for couple days.
It's better for the long run if you didn't use it yet and fully disassemble the phone and let all the parts dry out first.
you can find lots of tuts in youtube on how to fix a phone when it died due to deep dive (something like putting it in sand i totally forgot - just stumbled upon those vids back then)
btw, it really looks cool but its risky when charging! just a precaution mate!
Also, would have been cool if you called your phone while it was spinning! and got it in video! (good for the n4 community! haha)

Nexus 5 put to the ultimate durability test!

BY ACCIDENT.
So this weekend the girlfriend and I were getting ready for a small road trip. I had my jacket and Nexus in hand when I get to the car and I put them both on the top as I dug around trying to find my cigarette lighter -> USB device under the seats. I got distracted and ended up leaving with both my coat and phone on the top of my car. I turn out of my apartment complex and floor it to 40mph. I'd say about 5 minutes later we get to the gas station and I realize my Nexus is missing!
I realized what I had done and we went back to see both of my items lying in the busy street. My poor Nexus was face down on the asphalt... I had to play Frogger to get across the road safetly and to my surprise the phone was okay. It has quite a few small scratches on the front and the plastic on the top edge is a little rough but aside from that everything is fine. I was so surprised after shattering my Nexus 4 not too long ago.
Just figured I'd share this story. I'm more impressed with the build quality now after knowing that it landed face down and was probably ran over by a few cars :highfive:

The scratches look way worse in the photo because I had it facing a bright light. Normal use I hardly notice them (especially with the screen on)
I might eventually just buy a new glass and replace it myself but we'll see. I dropped both my Note 2 and Nexus 4 with awful results.
And yes it was naked when it hit the pavement.

[Q] I found a TV on a dirt road today.

I went up hiking with a friend in the Colorado mountains today. We went wayyyy up a small dirt trail just wide enough for one car, it was great!
About 30 minutes into the drive along this dirt trail, we saw something black 10ft off the road, which ended up being a 46 inch Flat Screen Samsung TV, in perfect physical condition, other than it looks like it's been there several days and we knew it rained the last few nights.. but I took it home anyways!
Found a cable to plug it in, and used my Note 4 as a remote, and it turned on! Made the powering-on little tune and everything! But.. the screen has MAJOR water damage, to the point where it's unusable. It can't be used in the condition it's in now.
So.. if you were in my position, what would you do?
Look for a replacement panel?
Call Samsung?
Set up a warranty with some company somehow?
Replace the Screen, if I can find a screen replacement?
Throw it out? Sell the working parts?
What would you do if you were in my exact position?
