[Q] Rewrite flash - LG Optimus Black

Does anybody knows how to rewrite the flash? I'm not talking about the rom. I spilled some water on the table and my camera is not working anymore, the SD-Card is not recognized and the phone won't vibrate. Plus it has some lag in the dialer app.

What do you mean with rewrite the flash? You at least should give it a bath in Isopropyl alcohol, but dont forget to dismount almost every removable part and to put some hot glue on the microphone, cause it gets destroyed otherwise, but google for isopropyl alcohol bath, or water damage alcohol, or something similar.
Here is one thread about it: http://www.fiscalgeek.com/2009/06/ff_water_damaged_cellphone/
And dont blame me, if you make any mistakes and screw your phone completely, but I already revived one phone like this.
The most important steps are remove diplay, put glue on the microphone, so no alcohol can come in and remove speaker (this also gets destroyed by alcohol otherwise), but read more how to's about it, and you will find the most frequent mistakes and so on

Threaded screw.

I'm trying to disasemble my Diamond to replace the LCD - however the screw beside the camera with the void sticker over has been threaded (by me ). Is there anything I can do? Could I drill it out? I'm so pissed off - I had it a month when I broke the LCD, and now I can't fix it.
I think the biggest problem you're going to have is the size/fragility of the screws.
I don't know if you've had experience removing stripped screws (if you've ever worked on a car you probably do..), but you can use either a tap & die, or screw extractor. The only thing different about this scenario is because the screws are so small, you need to find something small enough.
Fortunately, they do make these tools for jewelry technicians
Google "tap and die + jewelry" and "screw extractor + jewelry"
If you're not familiar with tap and die, basically it's sort of a screw driver with blades. You first tap it with a hammer, the blades allow it to dig into the screw, then twist. This is the way I've remove stripped screws on my car.

The alternate way would be to use a screw extractor, which is basically a drill bit, with reversed blades. I'd recommend this over using a normal drill bit to drill out the screw. With this, hopefully it'll eventually unscrew the screw as it digs into it.

Also, I'd recommend putting some anti-seize lubricant on it first, probably use a cotton swab, dip it into the solution and carefully coating the head..try to get between the head and the phone, let it sit for a few minutes:

If this post seems chatoic and rambly, sorry..I'm not a technical writer
and remember, whatever tools you buy, make sure they're jewelry tools..getting a tool too big for the job will probably make things worse.

Hwo to fixs your diamond after fell to the water

The post down here
How to fixs your HTC Diamond after fell to the water
How to repair your HTC Diamond after fell to the water
If fell your Diamond to the water like that happened me.
This what you need to do after what I did.
1. To take out immediately the diamond from the water (not to be in shock).
2. Immediately to open the cover and to take out the battery (also if the screen yet worker) the most important.
3. Will be dried with paper where that it's possible will be dried.
4. Immediately to take hair dryer but to adjust on ventilation (not on hot !!) I used the compressor.
5. After dry the device about 15 minutes, to give him to dry ( did not insert yet the battery).
6. After complete day of rest , it's possible to insert the battery. and see what happen.
Now it should to work normal.
=======If not work======>
7. If the diamond not work normally , turn off .
and wait again one more day. and try again.
8. if the diamond first screen work but windows don't ,
you need to install new rom offical
I recommend the last offical rom from orange==> Download Here <==
If you have problem respond here
Nice tip, one comment: beware of corrosion because of the water, sooner or later - if unlucky - it could cause the device to not function properly. My advice is after thorough cleaning, emerge all parts in ~100% alcohol (go to a pharmacy) as the displacement removes all water, while the alcohol can evaporate completely.

Help! Water Damage - Buttons not working - Warranty Void!

Hi,
I'm having a total nightmare. Over the past few days my handset has been a nightmare. I was out last Saturday, and dropped my phone when it was raining. When I checked the phone it seemed to be OK, but there was some water still on the battery when I woke up and removed the cover on Sunday morning.
The phone seemed to be working OK at the time, but over the week there have been 2 issues.
1. The hardware buttons stop working intermittently. At first, the Call Send and Call End buttons were the wrong way around, but then now they have totally stopped functioning. The volume keys no longer work also. (The standby button on top is fine).
2. Every so often, the phone will go crazy, and its almost as if someone is pressing the buttons. It keeps going into Quick Launch mode and switching to Airplane Mode, and also keeps dialing Voicemail by itself.
I've just ran through the troubleshooting on the T-Mobile site, and it ask "Is the indicator sticker white?" - Mine is red
I am then told I have voided my warranty.
When I got handset, TMOB asked whether I wanted insurance. I said No because I thought I had it through my bank (I pay like £6 per month for my account and one of the advantanges you can choose is mobile phone insurance)
For this reason, I declined to take out the T-Mobile insurance.
This evening, Ive checked my banks insurance page on the website and in the small print is states:
Phones which have a primary use for the making and receiving of telephone calls, SMS text messages and data. We do not cover PDA type devices. Please see the definition of mobile phone/phone in section B of the Policy Document. If you are unsure as to whether your handset can be covered please contact us
Section B:
Mobile Phone/Phone
Your handset and SIM card specifically identified by the IMEI number and mobile phone number. The handset must be your property or responsibility. Your SIM card will not be covered unless it was inserted into the SIM card slot of the phone at the time of the incident.
The handset must be a hand-held electronic device for which its main use is for the making and receiving of telephone calls, SMS text messages and data. We do not cover devices which have Windows Mobile®, Symbian OSTM, or Palm® operating systems or a similar PDA type of interface, whose primary function is of a business nature. The cover of handsets will be at our discretion, and if you are unsure as to whether your handset can be covered please contact us.
Now, its too late to take out the T-Mobile insurance and I am stuck with a handset which doesnt work.
I am fully aware this is my own stupid fault.
I've been trying to check repair websites, but they seem to claim with Water Damage, there is no certainty that they will be able to fix the device, and it might come back in a worse state than it was sent in.
Any advice that could be offered would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know whether you can pay HTC directly to repair your device? I've tried calling but they are now closed.
HTC does service but they are slow.
Try putting the phone in a zip lock with some white rice, this will dry it out completely.
You have probably damaged the electronics due to using it when it was wet, however I would remove the battery and try to dry it as best you can before putting power back to the unit.
once heard that you can get the red dot back to white with some bleach.
Never tried it though

I heard HTC sued some people for trying that trick. so be careful!
As far as rain/water damage goes...the rice bag trick has worked for me in the past, as well as taking the phone apart and cleaning all the contacts, etc with alcohol.
My phone is in for repair (thankfully under warranty) at the moment, so i'm half feeling your pain.
Good luck!
Thanks Drag-on.
Thanks for the advise guys, will let you know how I get on
If it can start and operate, the device is probably able to be safe. At this moment, the moisture in the electronic board is shorting out. I would start with using a hair drier to dry out the moisture. Hot air it a few minutes and cycle this a few times within an hour should have the moisture removed. Hopefully, there are no residue left behind by the water that is 'conductive'.
For proper cleaning, I think the best is use either alcohol swaps or contact cleaner aerosol to clean the PCB boards, buttons.
Hope it will recover.
my topaz is having similar problems as mentioned by the OP but it didn't get wet ever. however the humidity has been on the higher side for last 2-3 weeks at this place, could that be the reason for this misbehaviour? the h/w keys (except for power button) and volume keys are not working at all as i make this post

Have you tried placing in a bag of rice to draw the moisture out?
Not sure if humidity could cause this but it's worth a try.
Otherwise I would assume worn contact points.
i dont have any idea about "bag of rice" yet so didnt try. but i kept it shut down for the whole night and buttons are working right now. it could def be the moisture problem.
PS: so while trying out this 'bag of rice' thing, should i disassemble the phone first or just i've to keep it as such? and as i said it never got wet, would it be better to just use a hair dryer?

The hair dryer can push the moisture around and cause more damage. Plus if its on heat, that too can damage something.
For the rice, just get a zip lock bag, put the rice in it then place the phone on top and seal the bag. No need to disassemble. The rice will draw the moisture out. I think a few hours would be suficient.
Glad you got it working again.

thanks Bruce, i'll try the Rice method and till then i'll just keep it turned off with no battery inside.
Just a short update about using rice, obviously you will use uncooked rice. Also, if you have or can find the vacumn bags, put the rice and phone and battery in the bag and get as much air out as you. The vacumn will help in pulling the moisture out of the device, and of course the rice absorbs the moisture. I used this trick on a Moto Razr that had been completely under water while on. Powered down, removed battery, rice, phone, battery into ziplock vacumn bag, one day later...perfect condition.
none of the methods mentioned above worked, so i took it to HTC service centre and it turns out that the motherboard has to be replaced which is gonna cost around 160 USD.

Alpine BackLight???

My O2 xda IIi's backlight not working after i've clean it! Help me??
I've not touch any IC neither Chip??
What happen with it??
By cleaning, do you mean a complete disassemble and rebuild? Or just an all over clean?
If you disassembled it then it's possible that you have assembled it incorrectly, I cannot remember if the Alpine has an inverter lead, or if it's built into the display connections, however if everything else works correctly, then the inverter is possibly damaged, or disconnected.
If you gave it an all over clean using some sort of cleaning fluids, then it may be that some of the fluid has found its way inside the casing, in that case you will need to find a disassembly guide, and carefully open your Alpine and give it a careful clean with a dilute detergent, rinse with water and dry out overnight ( or in a very low oven at about 60-90C, for an hour or two ). ONLY the circuit boards should be cleaned this way, the LCD screen should not be cleaned at all, other than a careful brush clean of the connector areas, using IPA ( IsoPropyl Alcohol ).
Good luck

Poor soldering skills lead me to burning through fuse on sony xperia z3 compact

A little while ago I broke my screen on my Sony Xperia z3 compact, so naturally I replaced the screen and the digitzer, and it worked (hurray!) for about five minutes (Boo!), after which the backlight stopped working, apparently this is a common issue and I managed to find a solution after googling "sony experia z3 compact backlight not working". Should be the first result (cant post outslde links as noobie)
So i attempted to make the jumper with a soldering Iron, but my soldering experience is clearly evidence of my ability to break phones as in the process I burned through the component I needed to make a jumper across (I think. though the whole mess is covered in Solder right now). And although the charging light comes on the phone it self will not turn on. It is completely dead, I have tried various resets but none work, I should mention the phone worked perfectly before hand it was just the backlight that was the problem..
Is it time to get a new phone, or is there still hope? I've already sunk over £100 into trying to repair the stubborn basterd but I've not quite given up hope
There's no issue if you simply covered the burnt fuse in solder (which is actually the same effect as what you'd do if you jumper it properly).
Try removing the solder as it might be shorting to other metallic components - such as a metal foil cap. Just put your soldering iron tip to the blob and swipe aside and lift.
Then on the remaining 2 solder pads, add a tiny bit of solder to join them.
Clean up the flux residue and such with some isopropyl alcohol (denatured or rubbing alcohol will work fine too).
Add a little sticky tape on top of the solder bridge to prevent any shorting.
Unplug the battery and leave to stand for a few minutes before plugging it back in and try to start the phone again.
