Contacts - LG Optimus 2x

I hope it will be usefull for newbie as me, if you have Gmail account your contacts will follow you without using software connections or cable and wifi connections
You can syncronyze your PC contacts (outlook, LG contacts etc....) with your gmail account (with a little search you find how to) and after no problems of synchronization, your contacts will follow you in every MOD, in every android phone
A guide could be
1) save / export your contacts to a csv file on a PC (or similar);
2) save / export your contacts on your phone to a csv file (just use "exports heading to SD" and is created automatically);
3) Turn off any programs that synchronize with gmail (helps to avoid trouble while working at the end you can reactivate all);
3) Import csv thus obtained on gmail contacts;
4) Place your contacts on gmail (eliminating duplicates using "merge", accommodation name and last name .... you know is a big job) NB contact cards do not have the field name (when Google will place this thing??), I suggest you write the contacts by putting "Name" space "Last Name");
5) Delete all the contacts you have on your PC (should now be on gmail);
6) Reset the terminal Android (so you deleted the directory, but this phone is moved, and will ask to reboot again with gmail account in sync);
7) reactivated all synchronizations;
8) Now you have all your contacts at your fingertips on your computer and your terminal Android (on the latter may take some time, I waited a couple of hours);
9) For owners of Android remember that now you have to use only "google contacts" when you add or change a contact, otherwise it will be added to google contacts (basically disabled "sim contacts" and "phone contacts" if you want a backup copy, to the limit, export of SIM or SD Card).
Obviously this is "my" way to resolve the matter, will not be perfect but it worked for me.

Email contacts...

Hey does anyone know how to get all the contacts that are listed in my Gmail account onto my phone so that when i compose new messages i dont have to type a person's entire email address?
It seems like there has to be a way but i can't quite figure it out.
Thanks!
I'm sticking my neck out a bit here, but I think this will work
Load up your Gmail account on your PC, and go to Contacts; over on the top right of the contacts display is an "Export" link. This opens a new window, with two choices - pick the one that says "export to Outlook" and then save the file it generates somewhere on your PC. If you don't want every single contact imported to the phone, edit the .CSV file with Notepad (or whatever) and delete the lines containing the contacts you don't want. When you're done editing, save the file back as a .CSC file with the same name. That's the easy bit, now comes some fun
Use ActiveSync to copy the .CSC file to somewhere on your phone - the Storage Card is probably as good a place as any......then,
....use DotFred's "PPC PIM Backup" utility - get it from HERE - on your phone and select "Restore" from the drop down list on the first screen. Then navigate to where you saved the .CSC file on your phone and select "Next". You will then see a screen similar to the one attached - make sure you select "Comma" as the field delimiter and then tap Next to import the contact data...
CAVEAT: If you have contacts already stored on your phone, use PPCPIMbackup to take a backup of them first.....just in case this procedure f*&ks things up completely (as I said at the beginning, it should work!!).
You should now have all your Gmail contacts on your phone and you can edit them with the phone's Contacts application so they look (maybe) a bit more presentable...
Hope this is of some help
Mark.

How to backup synced contacts

Is there a way to backup the contacts together their synced facebook ones?
It is impossible with "my backup pro", and they can' te be saved on google servers..
Thanks a lot
Ale
I'm not exactly sure i understand the my backup pro thing, but if you go into contacts, push the menu button, click on more, then export them to SD card, it'll create a VCF file with all your contacts in it, you can save it somewhere or even e-mail it to yourself.
What i always recommend is to import that file into your gmail account (directly from the phone) this way your contacts are synced no matter what happens u'll have them on your gmail account.
Rodi,
Thanks for your reply, i'll try them next time i'll have to change my rom!!
And sorry for my english

[Q] Migrating from Symbian to Android OS (Contacts, Messages, Notes, Calendar)

My main concern is to move my contacts from Nokia N95 8gb (Symbian) to Galaxy Note. I do not want to do Google sync as there's lot of contacts and email ids already in my Gmail account. I don't want to mix it up. I don't have an outlook account as well. Please tell me a way out.
Is there any solution for transferring messages, calendar and notes as well? I don't mind doing this manually but contacts are difficult. Thank you.
Contact is easiest
First open contacts in symbian, option mark all - copy to memory card
Now copy other/contacts folder from your memory card n put in memory card of android
Open contact in android - option(menu) - import/export - import from SD card - select multifiles from available option - and GO
there is google calender sync application available for Symbian, backed up, then download in android by sync
same way a application is available for SMS backup to gmail for android, i forget name right now

wow.. that was easy. i never knew there was an option called "copy to memory card" in symbian. very smooth and all details gets copied, not just the first number in a contact.
google calendar is a good option. although i thought of copying manually just this months' appointments and anniversaries. if you sync then even the old 3 or 4 year old entries get copied which is of no use.
i couldn't find any google sms backup. but i did find another excellent alternative. first follow the steps in this link:
http://www.simail.si/nokia2androidsms/
after that use this application from the following link to complete the transfer
http://android.riteshsahu.com/apps/sms-backup-restore
it has all instructions. very useful if you collect huge amount of sms and don't want to let go.
copying notes, i guess normal Bluetooth transfers would do.
thanks doc
For calender since b4 android i switched to google, just reason is it remind you with sms too, so nothing like backup needed ne more. Once make entry on pc, n forget

How to back up contacts

YES I am sure this question gets asked a lot of times so I am sure by now people have come up with a GREAT answer for it instead of just telling me to use google.
Trust me I have used Google. I find Apps like
Backup Contacts
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=no.uia.android.backupcontacts&hl=en
which gets bad reviews and doesn't really seem to work.
I find a guide on how to save your contacts to your SIM card but it only seems to work on the Nexus S.
So here is what I want to do:
I use a Galaxy S (i-9000) and I want to save my contacts to my SIM card or a file I can copy on my PC and copy it on other android devices OR save all my PHONE contacts to my google account if that is somehow possible because I want to buy a NEW android phone (that's why I guess Samsung's Kies with the option to back up contacts won't do the trick)
I am looking forward to any help.
Thanks a lot!
I think the simplest way to backup contacts is to go the Contacts, or People on ICS, and press the menu button (bottom left on phone). From there go to import/export contacts, then it asks where you want to import/export them to. It creates a file on your phone storage that you can copy to your PC/new phone.

When I go to Contacts - Import/Export - Export to SIM card : it says "No contacts" and "search contacts" so it seems like I would have to export each contact by HAND. I can't find any way to select all and EXPORT all???
original rom?
using Go Contact will do...

It imports all my e-mail contacts from my Google account as well. How do I do it so that only people with phone numbers get imported?

Anybody got a solution as to how I can prevent importing contacts from my SIM card whereby all my Google e-mail contacts get sucked in there too?

Download my phone explorer for android app and the my phone explorer program for your PC, connect by Wifi, USB or Bluetooth and make a backup of all your contacts, sim contacts, calendar entries etc.
I've been using this tool since 2006 (it was originally developed for Sony Ericsson phones) and it allowed me to switch from my Z710i to my W595 and from there to my Desire, back to the Z710i and then to the SGS+.
It saved me so much hassle and I did not hesitate to donate to its developer. It is a superb tool (yes, I really like. He does not pay me for this post).

hmmm.i think what he is saying is that if we can make the default storage of contacts be in sd card so he wont need to resync after wipe data.
as far as i know it can't? don't know if others can but me myselft don't know any method to do it.
can press "Thanks" if i helped,;]
2nd post op is right can tact can be exported to sdcard with that option and after a wipe they can be restored
one other thing the op of thread can do is go to "contact to display" setting and unticking Google from the list

Personaly i think it's not good idea, things are saving in phone memory (like widgets, contacts, settings) are essential to good working phone without his sd card. Placing there contacts is quite weired :|. Wonder that would be unpractical if you using 2 sd cards
okay, here's a tip how i reorganize my contacts so i dont have duplicates and also clean contacts database..
at first we need to use gmail and it would be easier to open it from pc..
step 1 : sync your phone contacts with google
step 2 : open gmail, login and go to contacts (click on the text gmail, you'll see 3 menus: gmail, contacts and tasks.. choose contacts)
step 3 : export your contacts to sdcard, and import them to gmail.
step 4 : on the left, choose "My Contacts"
step 5 : select all contacts, and on the "More" drop down menu, select "Find & merge duplicates..."
step 6 : recheck your contacts manually for empty names or numbers/emails without names (in my case, there are some emails with no name, so i just delete the not important ones, and merged the ones i recognise with the correct contacts)
now, if you think you've sorted all of the contacts then you could MERGE/DIVIDE the contacts into groups..
you could do that by ticking all the contacts and click the "Groups" drop down menu, and uncheck everything except "My Contacts" group.. this step is to remove "imported" groups from android..
if you need to divide contacts into groups then you can select the contacts and create a new group from the "Groups" drop down menu..
Now, if you think your contacts are perfect, this is the last step.
EXPORT YOUR GMAIL CONTACTS to pc for safety reason.. then
DELETE ALL YOUR CONTACTS FROM THE PHONE (you could install "go contacts" or similar app to easily bulk remove them.)
SYNC your contacts from your phone
and you are done.. after all contacts are correctly synched to your phone, you could export them again to SDcard for later use..
sorry if the steps are messy and maybe a little unclear, if there's any questions just let me know
