Hello all!
I'm new on this forum. I have questions about Xperia X8. About 1 week i will buy xperia x8(with android 2.1). I want to root it. I have found tutorials on net but i don't really understand, am i going to unlock the bootloader if a root my phone and install custom rom(I'm thinking to install Froyobread)? I don't want to brick my phone so is it safe to root? Also if i have Custom Rom(Froyobread) can I use market to install free apps?
Thanks
P.S Sorry for my english
rooting is easy. just use superoneclick. bootloader unlock is more difficult and dangerous.
for froyobread you wont need a custom kernel. you can us gingerbread roms 2.3 to without flashing a kernel. i have locked bootloader too.
It's safe to root your X8, i recommend this program to do with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
It's a very simple and great program. U just need to connect your phone with USB Debugging, and click on root. Thats all
If you want to change the stock kernel (most of roms can run with stock) u will need to download stuff, and make these steps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
Also, make sure, your phone is able to do these processes.
And If you have a costum rom, you can download free apps from market. It's very simple.
To install a costum rom, u need just to read a lot of about it.
Good luck!
If I helped, please click on the THANKS button

So that means with rooting i won't brick-damage my phone(if a follow instructions carefully)? What 2.3 android Rom to choose for daily using?
Will froyobread run on stock kernel(will i need to unlock bootloader)? Also is there a tool so if a brick(damage) my phone to restore to old state(i have heard that Sony PC Companion is doing that)???
Sorry for stupid questions
Every rom have it's own advantage. I'm using now Alfsv8 kernel, with GDXv22.
It's a very good rom, for almost everything. But nAa's kernel and rom are very popular and great too.
Rooting is very simple with this program, you can't miss it
EDIT: Most of GingerBread roms require the latest nAa kernel, but I prefer Alfs As I mentioned, u must unlock your bootloader to flash a costum kernel.
And yes, you can restore your phone if u accidently brick ur phone. You can make the restore with PCC.
So if i want to install froyobread i will need to change kernel. Is kernel automaticly installing when i browse and choose to install custom rom in xRecovery 0.1. Or is there a special procedure for that?
No, it won't get installed with a rom automatically (it would be too simple )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
Read this thread carefully, and u will know how to do it.
Wait but luisniklas said that i wont need custom kernels for froyo. I also read tutorials for installing custom rom for froyo and i don't find anything for custom kernels. I don't really understand is there a difference between bootloader and custom kernels? If i need to change kernel, i'm not going to risk my phone at all.
Sorry I'm so boring but i really don't understand this things
Update: I found that Froyobread is going to work on stock kernel? Is that mean that i have to skip that hard procedure(changing kernel)?
Some rom will work on stock kernel. I dont know which ones, minicm, gingerdx and the other better roms need to change the kernel. If you don't want to change the kernel, u will need to test the roms by yourself. With stock kernel, maybe u will have wifi, notification bar, bluetooth, camera, fm radio and other bugs. The performance will also won't be fast.
Thanks for explaing that. Now if someone know answer me:
WILL FROYOBREAD WORK ON STOCK KERNEL?
Look.I'll make it as easy as I can get:
First, you root. It's simple, easy and safe. Search for instructions about SuperOneClick.
Then, you install xrecovery. This is necessary in order to install rom.
Then, you choose the rom you want to install.Every rom mentions if it runs on custom or stock kernel, or both.
I suggest since you are new, you should not try to unlock your bootloader yet, you don't want to end up hard bricking your phone.
Go to the rom you want to install, and see if it says stock or custom kernel. And then, you save it to your sd card, you go to xrecovery and install it.
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079463
There is nowhere said that this rom need stock or custom kernel. What will happen if this rom needs custom kernel and i have install on stock?
After you install it, your phone will be stuck in the Sony Ericsson logo. That's what happens.

Edit: Last stupid question: So if this rom work on stock kernel i won't need to change kernel or unlock bootloader?

Yes, that's what it means.
No, you won't.
But after u learn things about the X8, u should change the kernel too.
install recovery after rooting. use the xrecovery installer. if you cant find it pm me and i will help you. in xrecovery you can backup your current rom with apps etc .
i use GingerXperia(with all xperia apps) V22 on stock kernel. its very nice.
i something gets wrong you mostly can restore your phone with sony ericsson update service.

Hi all this is my first post on this forum!
I would like to say that all the rest was very helpful but im having problems understanding few things and i wasnt able get any easy answer yet.
I am running on 2.3.4 and i have installed Kernel Speedmod K15T10 on my Samsung I9000 the version is XXJVR. I havent done anything else.
I understand from different programs that i try to install - that my phone is not rooted yet (i thought the kernel will root it).
My first question is, is it safe (by using the update file) to root my phone on this existing kernel or i need to do something special?
My second question is about ROM's can I install any ROM on this phone, or i need something that says in it's name XXJVR? because i saw that Darky doesnt have JVR but rather something else.
My final question if i decide to uninstall the ROM is it possible without damaging the Speedmod Kernel.
Thank you all ahead for the answers.
Your kernel does support root, you just need to activate it from the recovery.
go to recovery and there you will see advanced speedmod options (something like that - i dont remember) there you have the option to root your phone - root and install busybox i think it is called.
with this kernel you can flash other rom with out any problem. keep in mind to read the installation guides of each new rom you try.
each rom has it own kernel that comes with it, you can change it to another kernel.
I wanted to install the MUMI ROM over this kernel but i want to keep the speedmod kernel is it possible?
Installin the mumi ROM means that it will wipe all the apps in my phone? or?

No you will not be able to keep the speedmod kernel if you flash muiu. I'm guessing you mean muiu. If you are keen to keen your current apps, look for titanium backup in the market.
If you are interested in the miui rom, I suggest that you do a lot more reading as its meant for experienced users at this stage.
hi guys, i have some issues during installation process. when i try to install any ROM it just dont accept it. ive followed exact instructions and checked for my version, baseband, rooted, installed xrecovery, wiped data, install rom, again full wipe and again it seems that doesnt work. i checked also for requirements, i have unlocked bootloader, have stock kernel but no lucky at all. im desperate, i dont wanna to stuck again with eclair because its poor in comparation with >2.2. i havent mentioned that earlier about 3 months ago i succed to install gingerv20 without any problem but now i cant. pls help
If you have unlocked your bootloader then why are you on stock kernel?? :what:
Flash the correct & latest nAa or alfs kernel and then the corresponding compatible rom.
Also don't do full wipe AFTER you have flashed the rom!!
Sent from my E15i using xda app-developers app
U are not mentioning that u have installed a kernel with flashtool. If you are using a Rom which requires custom kernel then you have to flash first it with flashtool
Sent from my ST26i using xda app-developers app
You better use cwm instaid of xrecovery. If you have indeed unlocked your bootloader then you can install the kernel with flashtool and the cwm will be included. Also as i have already told you see what kernel the rom works with!
hey guys, when i choosed what rom i will download, in requrement said that will work with stock kernel and i didnt flashed it. but before that rom i flashed it with flashtool to try others and also didnt work...im not that noob, i can read but im sure that i srewed something up...i'll continue to try and i'll let u know have i succed...tnx anyway
After many roms tryed i finally succed to install 'Update-GingerElite.V2', and i didnt FULL WIPED after installing it as ''cdeox8'' said, and he was right. In requrements just said that that need to be rooted, Baseband 015, Sony Ericsson Stock Kernel and that was true, but i tryed few of roms who required same things but they didnt work. Anyway im not gonna to risk anymore with roms, i like this GingerElite so im gonna keep it for the moment. When i buy other phone im goona make some experiments tnx guys anyway
Hello! everyone I'm newbie flashing a rom my friend told me that you must flash a custom rom before Root
can some one guide me on how to Flash a Custom ROM? and suggest some 100% smoothly used Custom Rom or most popular one
Thanks in Advance

Your friend was partly wrong. You can flash a pre rooted stock firmware, flash custom recovery and root your exisiting firmware, or flash custom recovery and then a custom rom to get root.
What's best for me might not be the best for you.
Don't mess with your phone without knowing what your doing or why your doing it, and everything will be fine.
What's your needs? Why you wanna root? Do you want to still be able to update fw from kies or OTA? Do you care about warranty?
I suggest you read some more before you do, about custom recovery, root, system status, csc, custom binary count. Use the search function.:good:
About custom roms there aren't that many but I think they're all stable.(Havn't tested all) It's more about what you need.

Hi ,
I want to root unlock bootloader, install cwm and install a custom rom ( slimkat probably)
Are custom roms worth it? Are there performance better than the stock jb on z?
Can i brick my phone doing this? And if i brick my phone how to unbrick it? I have heard someting about flash tool, but need more info.
And how this phone works? for example if i get a bootloop, in my old phone i still could easly go into cwm and restore backup or install another custom rom.
I want to do everything by this tut: theunlockr.com/2013/07/22/how-to-root-the-sony-xperia-z-video (it doesn't let me put the clickable so just copy)
Have you tried that or recommend something else?
Thanks.

I suggest you to read various threads about unlocking a bootloader, the risks and about the rom you want to flash.

Hi.
First some custom roms have better prefomance than stock and others not. You will brick you phone if you did something wrong. In all custom roms and mods the devs saying WIPE DALVIK CACHE if you didn't did that you will brick your phone.to unbrick use flashtool. Just download ftf file and install it from this tool. Dont worry its safe but you will lose your data. So BACKUP THEM!!!!! . Flashtool can install stock rom only.
And if you got bootloop. sometimes you will lose cwm. So you flashtool.
And last one..
To root you phone that Depends on you android version the best way you need to downgrade to 4.2.2 if you on 4.3 then you this app to root ( kingoapp.com )
DONE!
I am new to rooting and stuff.
So recently I bought Sony Xperia SP C502 .
The current firmware version is 12.1.A.1.205 .
I want to root my phone and install eXistenZ 4.0.0( rom based on stock rom )
My bootloader is locked.
Bootloader unlock is allowed.I don't want to unlock the bootloader.
Is it possible to root and install the rom without unlocking the bootloader ?
Will rooting and installing the rom automatically unlock it ?
please help I am a noob.

Install super su not from play store
Install busybox installer from playstore

You won't be unlocking your bootloader
You can flash it on locked bootloader too.Flashing this rom won't unlock your bootloader

Just follow the mentioned instructions in the respective thread. And as for Xperianz as you mentioned, you have to read this post.
Based on the post, it seemed the installation is straight forward. What makes you have a bootloop? Did you flashed the kernel mentioned in the thread via fastboot?

yes, you guessed correct. i tried flashing the kernel. And the phone didn't start at all.. not even power up.
Later i read a post in XDA, in which it was described that i should do a hard rest by pushing the hole button at back and then try to boot.
Tats when i got boot-loop. I again flashed the custom kernel (DooMLoRD) and did installed CM11 again using CM recovery. Then the phone booted cm 11.
I followed this link and tried doing so. which resulted in phone not powering up and then boot-loop.
So now if i install Xperianz ROM following instruction in this link, it should be working properly correct?
Am sorry if am asking dump questions. Now am a bit scared to try to switch to this cutom ROM as i may end up bricking the phone again. The thing is I really don't want to mess it up again.
I am new to rooting n playing around with custom ROM. CM11 was my first try and was a success in first go.
Thank you for helping me.

I am concerned about how you flashed the kernel. How did you flash the kernel provided in the thread? Did you use adb or FlashTool?
If you want to try any other you can use Existenz as it require only the stock kernel.

I used FLashtool to flash the kernal.
If my understanding is correct, As of now i am not on stock kernal. When instaling CM11, I flashed the kernal of DoomLord for getting CM 6. recovery.
If this is the case should i flash the stock kernal first and then give a try for Existenz?

Well Existenze require most Sony things out of the box, so you'll first need to have Stock ROM in place before flashing it's ZIP. I've dug through the Xperianze thread for you and seemed like your problem is not to be found in the thread. If you really want to try out Xperianze, you might want to flash the kernel via fastboot using adb, rather than Flashtool.
