[Q] Just asking - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heey guys,
I have a armani i9010 here in the netherlands.
Can I put a rom from the captivate on this one.
The phone looks the same.
Any help is appreciated.

Should work... There is a ROM called andromeda that built on Armani firmware, if that works on "regular" captivates, I897 firmware should work for you....Idk about any Odin packages to get to your stock firmware though.

JVK (2.3) on Bell I9000M?

After searching google I've read a few fairly recent articles that say installing 2.3 on a Bell I9000M is possible and they all give a broken link to the forums here. I've checked samfirmware and the only JVK (2.3) firmware they have there is Europe. I'm very computer literate but fairly new to firmware upgrades / messing around with my phone so I'm just wondering would I be able to install European 2.3 firmware of my Canadian I9000M from Bell? Or is there a special release of it that I need to get? I've poked around here a bit but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. The firmware I'm talking about is the I9000XXJVK release. Thanks in advance, didn't think I could have this much fun with my phone.
Been curious myself had nightmares with the last upgrade... Three sgs's from bell. They didn't like that but i was within the 30 days doa clause.

Pretty much any of the stock or custom JVK or 2.2 Roms will run on your Bell Vibrant. I've used Darrky's, Doc's, Ultimate and Serendipity with no problems. Most of the current modems work fine on Bell, although I try to stick with a JL2 modem if I can. It seems to get slightly better signal. Use Doc's Rom Kitchen and you can pick and choose your options including the JL2 modem.

Done and done!. If anyone else is curious head on over to samfirmware and grab the European I9000XXJVK release, working for me atm. About to apply root from the last thread jentech posted. Thanks jen!
JVK upgrades the bootloaders though right? If you install the version without the bootloaders, you will get into a bootloop right? The bootloaders in JL2 is what is preventing the i9000m from getting corrupt SD failures from what I understand. I would really like to know if updating the bootloaders with JVK will open our phones to the corrupt SD thing again. I would love to hear some feedback from i9000m users who have gone to JVK. Like how long they've been running, and especially if there are any i9000m users who have upgraded to JVK and got corrupt SD. I'm not excited of going through yet another i9000m. Thanks!
I would love to know the answer to this question as well!
ive been using criskelo's 2.3.3 rom with no problems... all you have to do is flash stock jvk with bootloaders from odin and then flash a speed mod froyo kernal
after goto cwm and flash the criskelo v25 rom and then get the ugkc1 modem
from criskelo's rom page (page 40 i think cwm 3 compatible)... and flash the rom in cwm and everything willl run awsome... the rom is unreal ive had no problems at all on my i9000m (remember to enable all animations in settings to get the crt screen off effect... runs way smother and faster then froyo....
I too have been running on jvk for the past week+. I've alternated between criskelo and juwe's and am currently on juwe's for the past week with no problems. I changed my modem from the jvk one (poor reception) to the jk4 and it runs as normal. give both criskelo and juwe a try to see which u like better (personally the smoothness and battery life of juwe has won me over) as neither has caused any problems at all once u follow the appropriate steps like those that remenis outlined.

[Q] Switching from branded 2.2.1 to stock 2.2.1

Hi,
I currently have 2.2.1 PDA I9000BVJS4 / PHONE: I9000BVJP4 / CSC: I9000ORAJS4 and i want to switch to stock 2.2.1 . My phone was bought from an online shop, not from an operator and it was not branded. After the 2.2 update via Kies i had a FW similar wich ended in CNX (Vodafone Ro, it might be I9000HKDCNX, not sure about it). Can you give me some pointers about which version of 2.2.1 should i flash it to and a guide how to do it ? last time i tried i got to the S of death and the only way out was a friend of mine which could only install my current firmware.
Thanks!
If you want stock 2.2.1 then search for EZBase. It has everything you need to flash to that with clear and very easy to follow instructions.

How can EZBase help ? from what I read it makes easier to switch between zipped roms.

Ezbase is basically stock + root,

That looks like good thread, hope it all goes well, pm me if you have any problems

Optimal would be one the firmware that came with your phone or its updates via Kies ..
Second option would be current firmware Samsung stock rom version that matches your location .
jje
Flashed to JPY as described above, set CSC to XEU and updated via KIES to JVO all's all right.

The "best" firmware to use will depend on what type of firmware you want:
- If you want a firmware specifically meant for Bell i9000m phones, it would be the UGKG3 firmware. It is the only Gingerbread firmware released so far for us Canadians. It runs Gingerbread 2.3.3, but be aware that there are no custom kernels for it yet. There is only a rooted stock kernel available. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211939
- If you want a firmware that was meant for the international i9000 model, there are many many roms that you can try. There are roms which are stock (like XXJVQ/XXJVR 2.3.4), roms which are modded from those stock roms (like Juwe's, Insanity, Darky's, etc.), and completely rebuilt custom roms (like CM7/MIUI 2.3.5). There are lots and lots to choose from.

Maybe a silly question but... Is that the model of the phone your trying to flash? I9000? Cuz here in PR the i9000 model is only for Claro not TMobile.. And they work on different bands.. But if u're sure that's the model, its fine..

[Q] S I9000 to S I9000M

I would like to convert my Galaxy S I9000 to a Galaxy S I9000M (Vibrant) Canadian.
I would appreciate it if someone could help with the rooting and tell me the name of the firmwares I need to use such as the
Kernal, Rom, etc.
Thank You.
So just to clarify (because I'm a bit confused) you want to convert one device to another? The only safest thing you can do is change build.prop, and that's only going to change how the device displays. If you want to flash a Vibrant rom onto the I9000, that's a no go because that can screw up the device.

Any reasoin why you want to make the change
Hi,
My phone used to be a i9000m.
In order to use all the custom roms, I had to convert it to a i9000.
The only thing that carries over every time I flash a new rom is the modem.
You need to use the "KG3" because I think it has something to do with the frequencies that are used by the i9000m.
So, maybe your i9000 modem may not use the same frequencies? I'm guessing, not knowing.
i9000 was wonderful, why change?

Thank You for your replies.
I am trying to learn about the Android system.
I would like to convert my Galaxy S I9000 to run on the Bell System in Canada
and I figured I need to convert to something like the Galaxy S I9000M (Vibrant) Canadian firmware.
I would like to have an i9000 working with (Bell) Canadian firmware.
I would like to wipe/re-program the phone to a factory firmware and install a firmware that will work in Canada.
The same process you do when you format your PC's harddrive.
I would like to root/clean my i9000 and re-program it with updated firmwares, giving me an i9000 Canadian Phone .
If this is possible, I need to know the names of the Rom, kernel, etc. for Canada, I could use to do this.
Thank You.
Factory Firmware you can get from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
I have the GT-I9000M_I9000UGKC1_BMCKC1.zip from sammobile
Thank You
nyloncrack
Since you have your phone working in Canada would you be so kind and share with me,
the firmware you installed to do this and
how You installed it.
Also do you have a link for this "KG3" rom/kernal file?
Thank You.
