I can't see any wifi hot spots including my own under "WIFI networks". Running latest Cybermod 7.2 on an EU milestone phone. I have no MAC IP floating or static address under "advanced settings". I wonder if that is the problem.
- Regulatory domain is set to 11 (US, my location)
- MAC address = Unavailable
- IP address = Unavailable
- Static IP address is turned off; no settings
If this is the problem, where would I find either the mac address and IP or, numbers to plugin for a static address?
Thanks much in advance,
PK
Go download apndroid.apk Google it
Thanks, downed it and installed, put a widget on my desktop, not sure what it supposed to door how I'm supposed to set the 3 radio button but it isn't helping anything at this point. Still no wifi.
PK
Go to the apndroid and enable stuff there sorry i already forgot about it
Thanks again,
Put check marks in the three boxes and made the little button on top have a green bar. Hasn't fixed anything. The main problem I think is I have no MAC address anywhere. The iI think with it in floating mode, the IP address will be given out by the WiFi hot spot.
I wonder how I can give it a MAC address.
Regards, PK
When WiFi is turned off, it will show no MAC address. Are you sure WiFi is on and searching for networks? Try toggling WiFi off/on again. Still no MAC? Perhaps your ROM isn't accessing your WiFi chip correctly.
Thanks,
Nice to know about the mac address.
The WiFi Check marks don't stay on very long....20- 30 secs. During that time it doesn't pick up any hot spots. It also doesn't find any when I use the "search" option (found by pushing settings button wile in "wifi settings" with both boxes checked).
Regards, PK
If WiFi won't stay enabled, then there's an issue with the driver. Have you tried another ROM?
Thanks,
I went from Cybermod 7.1.x to the latest Cybermod 7.2.x. I don't see that many popular roms around any more for this phone. Any suggestions?
Does the "radio" include the wifi drivers and is it possible to flash radio independently like on other phones.
PK
Post your dmesg (or logcat -b kernel) after you try to enable wifi.
Most probably it's a hardware issue.
Hello,
Thanks, could be no better person to help sort this out than you. Having trouble getting a logcat exported that is formatted it into anything other that one, big, run-on sentence. Will post as so as I can output one that is legible.
Regards, PK
suddenly lately i am reading that a lot of people have hardware problems with wifi - including myself...
That is a strange coincidence, however unfortunately it happened...

Help!
I have a Netgear DG834T router as provided by Sky. I have one wired and two wireless connections running into it (let's call them WD, WL1 and WL2 respectively).
On the connections page I can see all of them under "attached devices"...but now I want to connect using my Kaiser (actually an O2 XDA Stellar)
What happens...
On the Kaiser, I get an IP address (assigned by DHCP) as normal - but can't access the internet - or at least, can only access it very rarely - http://www.google.com can't be found, but http://www.bbc.co.uk can. No idea why.
On the router, under "attached devices", not only can I NOT see the Kaiser, but WL1 and WL2 also disappear. WD remains visible. The router cannot ping the IP address of the Kaiser (timed out). If I disable WiFi on the Kaiser, then WL1 and WL2 are immediately visible again. Internet connection on WL1 and WL2 works, even when they are not visible.
I HAVE connected to this network before without any problems.
What the hooting heck is going on, and how do I fix it?
Thanks!
Time to troubleshoot! What happens with this phone on another wireless network. We need to determine if it's the phone or the network. Do you have any friends with a phone like this? Can you use their phone on your network? Do you have any ROMs flashed, has this phone ever been on the network without problems?
If the phone works on another router try looking for firmware updates for the router. Those things really do need to be updated often and it could have something to do with that.
Only have access to one network :-(. Might be a couple of weeks before I can access a hotel one or something like that.
Think next door neighbour has similar phone, but different provider...will try if he'll let me!
No ROMS flashed.
It connected fine when I first had it. As far as I know, I've changed nothing since then.
2 out of 4 answered...with an option on three...I'll get back to you as soon as I've beaten up my neighbour and stolen his phone...
Joke!
There should be somewhere you can go to test that wireless. I can walk outside the building I'm in and find one.

You = US, me = UK. We still think the biro is a recent invention...
Neighbour's phone on my network gives the exact same problem. I've also noticed that when I click "Renew IP" on the Kaiser it doesn't work...it gives me 0.0.0.0, but will occasionally flash up the correct IP address. It's alomst as if the connection is being lost and remade every few seconds. The status ist gives me is "associated to network"...is that different to "connected"?
I've been trying to solve this on my router, but none of the settings seem to make any difference.
Same here
I get the same with the router from sky.
Kaiser says I have an IP address, 192.168.0.5, but the it doesn't show up on the attached devices on the router.
What I find that works is hit renew IP maybe twice until you get a really wierd IP address like
169.254.*.**, actually not sure if I'm picking up another network, but for some reason I don't think I am.
I can then browse the web and sync via wifi.
Really pisses me of that it says that it has an IP address but doesn't connect.
1) Make sure you dont have a proxy set up on your wifi connection on your device.
2) The 169. address is your device getting an unauthorised IP address as the router did not receive the correct encryption key from the device.
3) You can check if its an encryption thing by simply logging in to the router (192.168.0.1 in your web browser on pc) and changing the settings to turn wpa off and testing it. The routers username and password are on the card - its something like "sky" and "admin"
Yeah I agree, there is something up with that router.

No, proxy set-up as the device was bought unbranded in US.
Because there are issues with this router, encryption and media streaming devices, I have only restricted the mac addresses with no encryption.
Still don't know about the 169. ip address beacuse doesn't seem to come up as am ISP.
Now then, how wierd is this?
After all these issues and kind of giving up on it as a bad job, I also noticed that out on the road, my GPRS wasn't working either - TomTom couldn't connect to the "plus" traffic service.
I get on the phone to O2 who told me that my phone hadn't been "provisioned". After one false start where they didn't seem to do anything about it, I have just (literally) had them tell me to go to the O2 Operator settings and tell it to update the "O2 UK Post Pay_GPRS" and reboot.
GPRS now works. And magically, so does my WiFi - IP address negotiated and full access to internet and my router's setup page granted. Working like a charm again.
So - seems to me it's an account setting, and nothing to do with either me poor ol' router or me nice new phone.
For completeness, I was occasionally getting the 169 IP address too, so it sounds like we have EXACTLY the same problem - suggest you get onto your service provider ASAP.
Hi,
I'm a SysAdmin and usually can figure out stuff by myself but I'm at a loss here, I feel like I've literally tried everything.
Hope you guys can lend a hand - I've also asked the CyanogenMod community here: forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8830-nexus-one-cant-connect-to-any-wifi-networks/
I've just received a replacement nexus one and it just won't connect to ANY Wifi networks (I've tried 3 different ones).
I know for a fact that my previous phone connected without any issues and we have several other wireless devices here that work fine (Printer, iPod, Laptops..)
Behavior:
- After resetting Wifi (disabling, re-enabling), it will scan for networks, it will detect my home network as well as several around my house properly.
- My home network is secured with WPA2, I select my network and put in my passphrase
- It will say "Connecting..." for several seconds then it will go back to "Disconnected" and eventually it will start scanning again for networks.
It seems to be the same issue as several people are experiencing here:
66.102.11.100/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=63fcb1171110570e&hl=en
Several notes:
- Wifi signal is at 4 bars (maximum)
- It will show my home network as remembered once I have attempted one connection
- As soon as the connection fails (falls back to "Disconnected"), my home network goes Out of Range (!?)
- MAC address is definitely entered correctly in my router's MAC address filtering
- Tried restarting router, modem
- Restarted phone, restored it back to factory settings (tried a factory reset via Fastboot and via AmonRa Recovery)
- Tried with default android 2.2 firmware, Cyanogenmod Stable (2.2) and the latest nightly (2.2.1)
- Tried "Wifi Fixer" (Installed via USB)
- Out of the three networks I've tried, one was open and the two others were WPA
Another thing I've tried is setting up a static IP address.
It gets kind of odd here - my top status bar will start showing the icon as if I would be connected to a Wifi network and if I go into "Settings -> Wireless & Networks", it will say that I am connected. However, I'm not connected to any network (eh?).
I've done my best to browse the filesystem for logs with the terminal emulator cyanogen provides but I don't really know the layout of android. If anyone can point out a path, I can pull out some logs for you.
So, any ideas ?
I too have the same issue but unable to solve it
if you find any answers please let me know too
Judging by several ROMs that have been unable to cure your issue - it looks to be HW issue rather than SW one. There are plenty of reasons why the protocol would fail authentication, and the symptoms you're describing fit exactly how would Nexus behave in case of failed network negotiation. The problem is that failed network negotiation can occur if all the networks are protected by MAC access filter which doesn't recognize your MAC, but it's not your case - so it might be some other negotiation failure, which might be HW-related.

adb logcat
Or install alogcat from market..
If you're rooted, you might be even better off dumping /proc/kmsg
Even though you say the MAC address is entered correctly, I would turn MAC filtering off at least temporarily just to be 100% sure something funny is not happening.
I've also had problems with hidden SSID, might broadcast it temporarily if its in fact off

Tried turning MAC address filtering off but no go - I doubted this could had been the issue since my device can't connect to an open network either.
The SSID broadcast isn't the issue either.
I'll try and look into the logs later tonight and see what I can dig up (thanks to those who hinted at how I could look them up)
hey guys ..
i can't think of any reasonable reason why it's not connecting to my router !!
i'm using my wifi connection with many laptops ..
and the GalaxyS was working properly yesterday too !
but now it's not working .. it finds the network and start obtaining IP adress for it but it can't , it just try to do that again and again
i assume that there is a password...you tried re-entering the password?
if so and still not working.
what did you do in the phone yesterday before it stopped connecting?
installed anything new?
yes there is a password .. i tried to enter it again
and i tried "forgetting this network" and start the connection over with no result
i didn't install anything new, but i updated some of the programs i have !
What ROM are you currently on ??
i have had this issue many times with darkys ROM
i'm using an official one ,, the one came with the phone (Froyo)
thats weird....
what about the kernel ?? or is that stock too ?
stock too
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #53
hmmmm........
i dont know how to help you.... whenever i get this problem i re-flash the kernel / modem / ROM.
I think you may need to do a factory reset, in order to get the wifi back. BUT !! to make a full backup you will need an app like 'titanium backup' which requires you to be rooted.
I can pretty much guarantee a reset will fix your problem.
Also if you dont fancy going on to a custom ROM, have you checked your up to date with KIES for the latest firmware ??
ok if i backed up my data ,, will it back up my apps too ??
or only emails, msgs and numbers ?
titanium backup will back up all your apps and app data and settings.
then after the reset, re download from the market and do the restore and hey presto !! job done.
ok i'll try that and i'll let u know
it worked .. thanks
well done thats good news !!
Reboot
I sometimes get this problem, too. I'm on stock ROM and kernel. When it happens I simply reboot the device and problem solved!

Try this.
Firstly, what brand of router do you have in your house? You need to find out if the router itself has restrictions on how many 'clients', or devices, it can have connected to it at any one time. To know what brand of router you have also helps with what the "Internet Protocol' (I.P.) address it has. It should be something like,
192.168.0.1
or
192.168.1.1
or similar. You will find out this information, on a Windows computer that's connected to the router, by clicking the Start Button, and where the 'Search programs and files' bar is at the bottom, type in (without quotes) 'cmd' and press Enter. At the prompt, type this exactly:
ipconfig /all
and the IP address of your router will be shown next to 'Default Gateway'. You then type those numbers only into the address bar of Internet Explorer/Firefox/Opera/Chrome and a pop-up will appear asking for Username and Password. Username is often
admin
and the Password is either
password or admin
You can then look for Wireless Settings that will show you if there are restrictions on how many actual devices can be connected to your router at the same time. While you are in the config of your router, it's a good idea to have researched the Primary and Secondary DNS (Domain Name Server) addresses of the Internet Service Provider you are currently signed up with. Just Google 'your internet service provider's name' along with 'DNS settings' and you will find the info you need.
You can then input those details into the router directly through the Settings menu, and change it from constantly seeking a domain to a situation where the router knows exactly where to look for the internet. This can speed up your internet a bit. With all the info you've grabbed, you can also set static (permanent) IP's for every client (computer/device) that's connecting to the router, making the whole network in your home faster.
Okay, now to your Galaxy. If your router is allowing a large number of clients on board it's wireless network, then it's a case of your Galaxy and the router not talking fast enough about assigning an IP address to your phone. The way you fix that is quite simple, assign a static IP to your Galaxy. With wi-fi turned 'On' on your Galaxy, go into Settings/Wireless and network/Wi-Fi settings. You'll see the name of your network there, and it should say something about 'obtaining IP address'. Now, here's the fun part.
Click on the left soft-key, and you'll see 'Scanning' and 'Advanced'. Click on 'Advanced', and a new menu will open. Down the bottom, you'll see 'IP settings' and under that, 'Use static IP'. Put a check in that box, then click on 'IP address' (below the checkbox). A little window will pop up, asking for an address. You now need to put a value in there that's similar to your router's IP.
Example:
If your router's IP is 192.168.0.1, then you type into the box 192.168.0.3
You need to make sure that the last digit (or digits) you use is different from any other computer using a static IP that's connected to your router.
Once you've clicked OK, scroll down a bit and you'll see more options. You need to tell the phone what 'Gateway' to use. That number is the same as what you found when you looked up the IP address of the router. Next, 'Netmask'. That's 255.255.255.0 Now, 'DNS1' and 'DNS2'. They are the Primary and Secondary DNS addresses for your Internet Service Provider, that you researched earlier.
Now you should find you'll connect to your router a lot easier, and have a more stable connection. Note, however, if you go roaming about and try to connect to a wireless 'hotspot' somewhere else, you'll need to go into the same area of Wi-Fi settings and turn Off Static IP in order to connect to the 'hotspot'.
Hope that helps...
Hey peeps. I'm on Andromeda 3 and I have been plagued lately by a very odd wireless issue that I cannot seem to fix. My symptoms will replicate no matter which wireless network that I connect to.
First off, I am an IT guy so I am very savvy. Secondly, I have been developing a theme on this phone so that may be related, but unlikely.
Some information on my setup:
In my home I have a Cisco Aironet 1200 802.11g access point that I am using for wifi behind a Cisco PIX 501 router.
At work we use Extreme Networks (enterprise grade) wireless access points with Juniper firewalls/routers/switches. I do not recall model numbers (irrelevant).
The problem:
Issue #1 - When I turn on wifi my signal bounces between 0 and 1 bar, and occasionally if the sun and moon are in the perfect positions in orbit, I will get 2 bars (wifi, not cell signal).
Issue #2 - I cannot for the life of me get a new IP address from DHCP on either network! My IP address on eth0 is stuck at 10.x.x.x but my home IP scheme is 192.168.0.x
My phone is set on DHCP, not static so I have no clue why it's binding to that address.
I have tried terminal emulator to release and renew but it doesnt work and I just end up getting an error that says DHCP timed out. Im not sure how far Android commands differ from Debian but I have tried (without success),
ifconfig eth0 down & up
netcfg eth0 down & up
dhclient (not recognized)
Other than that my host file is clogged up with a bunch of crap that I'm guessing by the ROM dev for disabling ad's.
I have even reflashed the ROM but that didn't help.
Can anyone suggest other things I can try to get that IP to unbind? The eth0 settings have to be stored away on some conf file somewhere right? I just dont where to look.
Thanks way in advance!
I have had issues with wi-fi connectivity with Andromeda 3 as well. I have found that for me, either rebooting the phone or using the power button menu to switch to airplane mode for a minute or so and then turning airplane mode off again fixes it for me - until the next time. Otherwise, I am sorry that I do not have better suggestions.
I have problem: My wifi signal drop every 60 secs approximately,on every stock rom from JVQ to the newest JVU. Last rom where wifi works great was JVQ after that version i have same problem in every single STOCK rom,JVZ,JW1,JVU... (on CM7,ICS port,MIUI I dont have that problem).
Anyone know how can i fix it? (sorry if my english is not to good)
Known problem. There is a workaround however. Set your wifi routers dhcp lease time from 0 (or never) to, for example, 120 mins. Also remove ip address reservation (if set) in your routers settings.
Used to have the same problem at android 2.2, but the 2.3.3 update fixed it. I used to assign a static IP to my device at home, that helped for the time being.
I have INTRACOM JetSpeed IAD-Wp2 router and cant find non of these settings.
Try going to 192.168.1.1 in your webbrowser on your pc, and try getting access with username and password "admin". That should allow you to configure some settings, including assigning a certain IP address to your phone.
On your phone, go to wifi settings, advanced, and enable "Use static IP address". Then configure it's settings.
You should refer to the routers manual to find out the setting for the dhcp lease time and ip address reservation. Routers and their names for these settings can differ slightly from each other.
If you set static ip in your phones wifi settings, you may not be able to use wifi anywhere but in your home network.
So the problem is my router or the phone? All these solutions that you have proposed are not long-term right? It will help me just when I am at home but if I go out somewhere that settings will not be of some help right?
The settings I posted were looked up specifically for your router, milanche911. But indeed, it'll only fix it when you're at home; you'll have to turn using a static IP off if you're elsewhere.
Does it happen to you no matter what router you use? I only had it happen to me at home, at other people's places things were fine.
try this application
it is WiFi scanner and signal checker... in config is setting scan Frequency 0-30 seconds and including the radar and WiFi sources GPS locator ...
good luck.

If the issue is the "wifi bug" which has been covered in the leaked rom threads, the culprit is the phone.
As a long-term solution, there's no harm in setting the wifi routers dhcp lease time to finite value and removing the address reservation, so that the router is not forced to give your phone always the same ip. At this point, you should not change the ip to static in your phones settings, this is what will prevent you using wifi outside your home.
Now you should find a way to check these settings in your routers configuration.
Thank you people! Thank you for your help, the problem was that I had been logging into the router settings with admin / admin and I got the complete setup for just a basic settings. Trick was that I log in with admin / tzlkisonpk and thus get full router settings where I finally found the "lease time" setting. Configured for two hours and now everything is fine. Thank a lot once again! Cheers!
Glad it worked out
