Hey all,
Just found it out myself, so I thought let's share it with the people who don't know it yet!!
WHAT YOU NEED:
1. A file explorer.
2. A launcher on which you can change icons like Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher (both in Play Store/App Market).
3. A MIUI theme with a lot of icons (like Suave Redone).
WHAT TO DO:
1. Change the theme name from {themename}.mtz into {themename}.zip
2. Extract the .zip file to a place where you can find it back easily.
3. Search for the icons file in the folder where you extracted {themename}.zip to, and rename it into icons.zip
4. Extract that file also, to a place where you can find it back easily as well.
5. Long press the icon you want to edit in the homescreen in your new launcher. It should show edit or something like that.
6. Press the icon, and press: select picture.
7. Choose an icon in the folder where you extracted your icons.zip to.
This should have changed your homescreen icon. NOT your app drawer icon. You will have to do them one by one, just repeat it from step 5 on if you're changing an other icon.
Greetzz, Jojoost
You can also download normal icon zips and install using your launcher. I find this preferable as nearly all miui icons look the same to me (slight variations of the same square).
It worked
worked just fine on my nexus s 4.0.3 with miui icons that i've found on google
Thanks! MIUI icons is really nice, if i can apply MIUI icons to normal ICS rom.. this is prefect.
But in MIUI v4 roms have problems apply MIUI icons, the phone icon is not changed...
awesome! thank you mate!
Thank you! I even forgot I made this thread

Or..... Just download the MTZ theme and extract it with 7zip then find the icon folder and drag it out.

how difficult is it to port a theme over? i really like Reefermattness's Darkness theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813497) - but with as vivid as the colors on this phone are, i love the dena994 theme ANDRODeNa GaLaSSiA - (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770507) - but its an i9000 theme.
i want to take the dialer, the semi-transparent notification background with the Galaxy S symbol, and maybe even the dark look in menus and such, from the Darkness theme, but the notification pull-down look and the icons from the ANDRODeNa GaLaSSiA theme, and combine the two. im using the Perception ROM, which is i9000-based, so i'd assume id be able to use elements of the ANDRODeNa theme.
how difficult would it be to do so, or an even better question, what would be the steps to do so? (if anyone wanted to take the time to do so, i wouldnt mind that at all either - and donate even).
Since your using an i9000 rom, you'd be able to just use the second theme as is, but the darkness theme would be complicated and I'm not entity sure how you'd do it.

No I can try to explain better tho
1 grab the theme you want
2 extract the apk using 7zip
3 Keep only Res folder
4 using winsows's search search for ' XML 'and del them all
5 put Res folder in a folder called the same as the apk you extracted (without the extension)
6 grab any metamorph theme for sgs captivate and replace the folder you just made and using metamorph apply 'sub theme'
Click to collapse
there you go .
If it's a metamorph theme - it should probably work.
But I would back up your framework-res.apk and wherever the dialer theme is pushed too before attempting it.
Worse case scenario is your phone will boot but will "boot-loop" when attempting to go to your home screen or go to a black screen.
You'd have to re-copy over the *.apk's affected and you would have your phone back.
Another way to do it is before flashing to your latest and greatest (or copying over the *.apk's) you could open up the APK files using WINRAR or your fav zip program and copy the *.png's into them overwriting the existing ones then flash or copy the modified APK files back into your system.
It's a pain... but it does work I've done it many times with positive results.

Provided in the zip file are some starter icons with a blank glass template for you to make your own icons.
could you advise me on how to use this theme? I pulled the icons from the zip but what about the theme itself?

Honestly, I doubt it was very difficult for you to do in the first place. So getting a thank you from a bunch of random people on the forums shouldn't be a big deal. Unless your doing it for the warm feeling inside lol.

Preciate the help I had no trouble installing the themed Launcher itself but how do you apply the themed app icons to your applications? I'm running DK28 ViperROM Trinity 2.o and I tried flashing the icon pack zip in CWM3 but "installation failed" any more suggestions?

You do not flash the icon zip. There are icons only with a blank starter icon to roll your own icons. Copy the unzip folder to your sdcard folder (exp: LP Icons).
Press and hold the icon you want to change. Select change icons, goto the folder you created called LP icons and select the icon you want. You may also at this time change the label name of the icon pointer to the app.
looking good jstine!

Let's say you want to change the phone icon for your LPro. Press and hold and you will get a screen "Edit dock shortcut". Select "Change Icon" then "Custom Icon" now you are in the Gallery. Find the folder that you named before and then select the icon you want to replace the phone icon with. Select the blue phone icon. Now you are done with custom icons. BTW: any icon that you select should have a size of 84x84. I think the ones I put in the zip folder are folder are 128x128. Please resize to 84x84 before using those icons for the screen to look correct. Hope this helps
Edit: Just tried this myself and the icon don't show to the correct size. Will have to look into why?????????

Ight preciate it mane this was a big help...I also figured out that if you longpress on the homescreen to add an application shortcut you can modify the app icon and name of any application on the phone with any icons you have in the gallery...only gripe I have is that the icons only change on top of the launcher homecreens...still a pretty cool feature doe...thanks again mane.
P.S. I have the same icons and they look and work just fine with the size they came after I put it under the DCIM folder on the SD card.

I've had a look through the forums but couldn't see this posted anywhere so here goes, and apologies if this is a repeat or is in the wrong forum.. In CM7 GingerBread you can change the battery icons in the status bar using the UOT kitchen and the framework-res file. The other icons however can't be changed using this method (like they could in CM6.1 FroYo) because the other icons are in a different system file in GingerBread.
Through a lot of digging around i have found the file 'SystemUI.apk' in /system/app/ where most of the other icons are. Also in this apk are the 'battery_low_battery.png', the 'shade_bg.png' and the 'status_bar_close_on.9.png' files which can be changed to files from another Rom after any nesessary re-naming.
The battery_low_battery.png controls the pop-up displayed when the battery gets below 15% and i've changed mine to one from an earlier Rom.
The shade_bg.png is the notification window and can be changed for the one from the SuperGinger Rom for example which has an Android picture on the bottom right (and looks cool i think). There is a transparency effect to the window which may be controlled by a .xml file, i'm not sure because i'm using the SuperGinger Rom which had it as a default.
The status_bar_close_on.9 is the notification window pull-down bar and i've changed mine for the 'status_bar_close_on_cust.9.png' from the cm6.1 Rom which has a CM logo in the centre.
All these image files and loads more like signal strength, bluetooth, wi-fi, flight mode etc, etc can be found in res/drawable-mdpi/ of SystemUI.apk.
The .apk can be modified using Android Design Editor V2 (credits to it's creator) (Google search...) and be pushed back from recovery using a flashable zip or ADB (i can vouch for a flashable zip created with Update-Zip-Packager.. credits to it's creator) (again Google search...)
I hope all this will be of use to some and thanks and credits to the Rom creators, cooks and devs, to XDA Developers and all the other contributors on here.
Peace and happy tinkering.
HTC Legend.
Thanks for that info I wasn't sure which file is the notification window bg in CM7, now I know.
IT WON'T HARM YOUR PHONE IN ANY WAY
But still do at your own risk.
Here we all will cooperate and design our own SYSTEMUI, MMS, FRAMEWORK-RES,etc so as to suite our own need.
I'll provide some presets under the name RAZZ MOD.
Requirements:
1. Root access
2. Pc
3. 7zip or Winrar (recommend)
4. Non android phone or SD card reader
For noobs:
It's not a big deal....you won't harm your phone.
You have to just replace some files by changing apk.
Everything is in system/apps except framework-res which is in system/framework
When you will extract the apk, put everything you download in drawable mdpi/xdpi whatever present.
You can replace the apk using any file explorer providing root access.
Reboot after replacing.
When you replace SystemUI you may get multiple force closes, don't panic. Just restart. (Or remove battery)
Note:
I won't draw any text or image regarding RAZZ cause i trust you and think you will not share it without mentioning me and I'll do the same.
Terminate the thanks button. It'll enable everyone here to happily work and find themes for you.
This is an open theme. You too can post your artwork and let others try it. This way we will get hundreds of theme as per our need. Rest will be explained later.

There are a few decent themes in Samsungs store. However, the icon packs are horrendous. Nova launcher hides them in some places but not others, like the share menus.
Does anyone know how to flash the material icons over any theme?
Edit: Also, how about the wallpaper for settings and dialers?

You would need apktool to compile the icons into the actual theme. However, if you want to just remove the icons and have them stock, you can try this:
-Edit /data/overlays/jsonfiles/userjson/THEMENAME.json and remove the line for "appicon", then delete the corresponding folder from /data/app/THEMENAME.appicon-1. If you want to remove the icons from the lockscreen, you will need to do the same for the "lock" line/file.
