[PROGRAM] Updated:One Click Root/UnRoot (Mac and PC)

Team,
This One-Click Root process will copy over the rooted-update.zip or unroot-update.zip file then reboot your phone. Follow the instructions in the CMD prompt that launches.​
Credits:

This has been tested on stock Android 2.1 Eclair only. If you rooted using another process you can use this process to unroot as long as you didnt load a rom that created links to busybox.

Epic SPH-D700 (Untested but should work like other phones. Post with your results. This is harmless it will either work or it wont. It copies over 3 files to your existing build.)​
Rooting adds the following to your system and unrooting removes them:
/system/xbin/busybox (version 1.17.1)
/system/xbin/su
/system/app/Superuser.apk (version 2.3.1)
and links /system/bin/su to /system/xbin/su​

Rooting Instructions:
1. Make sure your phone is on USB Debug mode: (MENU > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB debugging = Checked )
2. For Windows x86 and x64 systems make sure that the Samsung Drivers are installed. You can get them here.
3. Extract the contents of GalaxyS_Vibrant_One-Click_Root.rar to a folder.
4. Connect your phone to your PC via the USB cable and launch the file "T-Mobile Vibrant One-Click Root.exe" file.
5. Click the "One-Click Root" button. This will launch a command shell follow the instructions in the CMD window.​
Mac Instructions:
Download the app: OneClickRootMac. Or Down Below.
It requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.
Rooting Instructions:
1. Make sure your phone is on USB Debug mode: (MENU > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB debugging = Checked )
2. Connect the phone to your computer.
3. Click one of the buttons depending on what you want to do.
4. After the phone has rebooted into recovery select "apply sdcard:update.zip" for I9000 and I9000M and choose "Reinstall Packages" for the US models using the volume keys and then press the home button for I9000 and I9000M and the power button on the right top side for US models to start the process.​

Un-Rooting Instructions:
To Un-Root follow the same instructions except click on the Un-root button. If you rooted using another process you can use this process to un-root as long as you didnt load a rom that created links to busybox. I would suggest to restore you phone back to stock ROM before even needing to unroot and if you are on stock un-root all you want otherwise what is the point of un-rooting.

I'd say its easier to not mess up. Faster for sure, if you already have the drivers installed.
This is for our newer brethren or anyone else that want a straight forward root method. And for those having trouble entering recovery from the button presses. ADB is bundled in the rar file so you don't need Android SDK.
Another thing that will help most is when I add unroot to the app which I should have completed tomorrow.

Good question because that is what I do. Just an alternative method. The upcoming unroot will probably be more helpful to some.
But this method will help some for sure. It will download it to your phone for ya and put you in recovery. Well most of the other phones have it so why not ours.
Someone made the request and here it is. I will also be adding other tweaks to the app over time and useful info after rooting to this thread.

I am stoked that someone would take the time to make this program. I dont have immediate access to a PC(I use a mac) but an easy unroot program clinches the decision to root my phone. thank you for taking the time to make this much props

If you write it in java, then it will run any OS, right?

Relase src code. I may be able to port to unix/macosx and/or java.

I have Windows 7 installed through Bootcamp and it worked perfectly. Thanks

I know what you mean. I'm still used to holding down the buttons until the recovery screen pops up like on my G1. On the Vibrant, I have to remind myself to let go of the buttons as soon as the "Vibrant" screen comes up.
Yes, the overall process involved to use this program is longer, involves more steps, and, therefore, easier to screw up. Also, the fact that you have to download more than one file increases the chances of messing something up because of the possibility of corrupted files. Also, the "flash in recovery" method is OS agnostic, and technically doesn't even require a computer since you can download and rename the zip file right on your phone if you want to. Still, it's very easy to follow and would appeal to those who are new to rooting and don't feel comfortable with booting into recovery mode.

Updated the app to include unroot. Created a new update.zip file that will remove root. Also fixed the CMD shell launching minimized.

Lets see the java port. or even an APK to do so

Why fuss with button pushes, just enable debugging, plug in your phone, open a command prompt and type the following
Code:
adb reboot recovery
It's easier than messing with those buttons I assure you.

Help with rooting and flashing

First of all I would like to say hi to everybody, this is my first post on this awesome forum I found just today. I would also like to say that I bought my first smartphone a few days ago(HTC Wildfire of course) and when browsing on the internet trying to find out stuff I could do with the new found device I found a lot of people reffering to something called 'rooting' and 'flashing' and 'ROMs' and that doing this enables your phone to have a lot more new functions and stuff like that.
Therefore I have some questions to ask you nice people, so here they are:
- What is 'rooting', 'flashing' and what are 'ROMs' in the first place?
- I found a lot of abbrevations when people described 'rooting' their phones which I did not understand so I'm kindly asking if anyone could please explain the process clearly? (is this the correct process? -> forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7895908&postcount=127 , if it is what is the OTA update?)
- If someone could please explain the process of 'flashing' to me?
- Are there any recommendable 'ROMs' I could try?
I truly thank anyone who would be able to explain this to me and take their precious time to do so. I'm sorry if my questions seem silly but I'm extremely new to the smartphone android thing and therefore I don't understand everything.

Rooting = gives you/apps on the phone acess to root acount in android wich gives you acess to do things wich you can not do normally. read more about root and superuser(su) here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superuser
ROM = is sort of the operating system wich most often comes in zip files and is possible to flash to the phone with a custom recovery. this often include apps and modifications wich is made of the person who makes the ROM. also includes superuser acess (root) not allways but often.
custom recovery = a recovery mode wich allows you to do backup of your current settings and evrything else you have on the phone. also makes it possible to flash ROMs wich you have saved on the SD-card
Flashing = this is when the recovery takes your zip file and exctract it to your phone. when this is done you have a new "operating system" on the phone

Yes this looks like the process of rooting/installing a recovery.
OTA = Over The Air

wont explain this.. it should be explained somewhere else..

There are only a few ROMs out at the moment..
The only one I can recomend for you rigth now is wildpuzzle ROM by danne_jo there is more ROMs out but I dont know how stable theese are.

Thank you so much for your quick explanation. I must say though that searching for how to flash and root this phone was quite painful for a newcomer like me-took me hours to find the first part and then some to find the second.

Prep
Before beginning the process, I would recommend doing the following to your phone:
(1) If you have the original unrevoked root installed, uninstall it by using "Menu", "Settings", "Applications", "Manage Applications" and scrolling to "Unrevoked" at the bottom. Tap it, click "Force Stop" at the bottom and then "Uninstall", "OK" to uninstall it. Then power off/on your phone just to be sure.
(2) If you haven't already installed the OTA 1.47 update, do it now: "Menu", "Settings", "System Updates", and "HTC software update" at the bottom, then click "Check Now" to get the 1.47 update. If you do this update, it takes up to 10 minutes so be patient and let the phone reboot (a few times) until it is done. Then once the update is done, power off/on one last time to get a clean start.
(3) Set your phone to "Charge Only": "Menu", "Settings", "Connect to PC", tap "Default connection type" and select "Charge Only".
(4) Enable USB debugging: "Menu", "Settings", "Applications", "Development", and put a check in "USB debugging".
The root process
(1) Go to Control Panel on your system and uninstall any "HTC" software such as "HTC Sync".
(2) Download the unrevoked3 install package: Go to
unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.0 and click "Download for Windows". Save the "Reflash-bundle.exe" file somewhere that you can find it on your system.
(3) Using Explorer, run the "Reflash-bundle.exe" file you just downloaded. It'll ask where to install it. Don't just accept the default: change the install location to a folder you can remember: it's just going to unzip some files there: it isn't really a software installer.
(4) Once the files have unzipped, go to the folder you chose in the above step. You should find an "hboot driver.htm" file in that folder: double click on that to open the html instructions on how to install the drivers. Follow the instructions in the html file starting with downloading the actual driver files at the very top. When you download those driver files and unzip those, those are the files (the folder) you'll point to in subsequent steps in those instructions. When done with the html instructions, you should have drivers installed and shouldn't have to come back to this step.
(5) At this point, if you needed to install the drivers, you are probably still sitting at a boot menu on your phone. UNPLUG the phone from USB and select "Fastboot" and then "Reboot" to reboot the phone to restart it. Before the next step, your phone should be on and booted up in its normal operating state (not some boot menu).
(6) If you are running anti-virus software, turn it OFF or disable it now.
(7) Now go to the folder where you unzipped the reflash bundle (step 3 above). In XP or older systems, just double click the "Reflash.exe" file. On Vista and Win7 systems, I'd recommend right clicking on "Reflash.exe" and selecting "Run as Administrator". While this may not be necessary, I know that some USB drivers get really mad if you try to access the USB port without admin privileges (sorry, I'm a coder so I run into that stuff and warn you so you don't have to) so I did it as a precaution.
(8) You should get a window with "Unrevoked 3" on it (on the computer of course). Just follow the instructions in smaller font below "Unrevoked 3" to finish rooting. Note that when it says "Waiting for device", it wants you to plug your phone into the computer via the USB cable. Note that it wants the wildfire to be fully booted normally (not in the Hboot or recovery menus). The prompts at this point are very specific so no need to repeat them. If all works as it is supposed to, the only thing you really have to do is scroll to an item on the phone and select it when instructed. The rest is automated and should result in a "Done" message. The whole thing at this point took maybe one minute so it isn't something you have to wait for or stare at for a long time so if something gets "stuck" for a while... there's likely a problem.
(9) Don't forget to turn your anti-virus software back ON.
Now, when I followed these steps on my Win7 x64 system, reflash.exe detected the phone and started working (we're in step 8 here) but about 4 messages into the process I got the "communications lost... try again" message that unrevoked refers to on today's Twitter. Some say that (contrary to step 1) installing HTC sync actually solves the problem. I didn't try that. After about 6 tries on my Win7 system and even pulling some "tricks" to try to pause reflash.exe at certain points, I gave up and simply booted my old XP laptop and repeated the above steps and it worked perfectly the first time. At the point of the failure, you hear the two tone usb-device-disconnected sound followed by a use-device-connected sound about 20 seconds later. Somewhere in between is where the "communications lost" message appears so it looks like some sort of USB ack/nack issue. Hopefully it'll be resolved soon. My best advice if you get that error: try a new machine. The XP machine that worked perfectly for me had never seen any HTC software. Maybe that helped. And maybe after I uninstalled the HTC software on my Win7 x64 system (the one that didn't work) I should have rebooted before continuing: I didn't because it didn't prompt for a restart and I couldn't find anything "HTC" running in task manager.
do wipe data/factory reset
put all files to sd from puzzle rom. ( go to partitions menu > mount usb storage)
(put those 01 , 10 , 52 ,300 , 400)
go to nandroid> backup
go to install zip from sdcard
and install files from 01 to 400.
go back and press reboot system now.

Download and save all you want from 1st post on this thread - to your SD-card...do NOT open the zip files - just copy them to the SD-card.
4. Turn off your Wildfire
5. Turn on your Wildfire while holding Volume Down button - you have to have your SD-card with all the files you want - inside your phone now.
6. This get's you to the boot screen. Wait for HBOOT to say no image...blabla..
7. Push Volume Down to get to option "Recovery" - press Power button.
8. Phone will Reboot to a white HTC screen - and from there go to ClockworkMod Recovery screen - if you did everything correct.
9. Press Volume Down several times - until you get to option "nandroid"
10. Press the round button at the bottom of your Wildfire - the one you use to take pictures when using Camera functions, let's call it the Camera button.
11. You see "Backup". Press Camera button, and wait until it's done backing up your system. Do NOT turn off your phone! Wait until it's done. It will say Backup complete!
12. Next if you want. But only if you want - you don't have to - you can Wipe / Factory Reset your phone, saves a lot of ROM space and Memory. Phone WILL be slightly faster if you choose to do this - but all your programs and settings will be gone - Your choice.
IF you do NOT want to Factory Reset your phone, skip steps 12 & 13.
IF you want to do this then push Volume Down until you get to option "wipe data/factory re" (probably reset, but only show until re on my phone) and then press the Camera button.
13. As to make sure you really want to do this, you need to confirm... push Volume Down until you reach option "Yes -- delete all u" - then press Camera button and wait.
14. Now you can start flashing. Push Volume Down until you reach option "install zip from sdcard" Press Camera button.
15. Push Volume Down until you reach option "choose zip from sdcard". Press Camera button.
16. Find where you put the files you downloaded from post 1 on this thread. Choose 0001_WildPuzzleROM_v2.zip. Press Camera Button.
17. Push Volume Down until you reach option "Yes - Install 0001_W". Press Camera button. Wait for it to be done.
18. Repeat steps 14-17 with the other files you want to flash. IF you want to Flash files that are 0900 or higher. Reboot and change Wallpapers before you do.
To reboot Press Power button to go back and Press Camera button on option "reboot system now". Then repeat steps 5-7. If you need help changing wallpapers too let me know and I'll try to explain that too.
When done flashing the files you want. Reboot. And you're done.
First reboot after flashing Wild Puzzle Rom takes a very long time. Be patient.

[GUIDE] – Flash SBF/Root/Recovery/DeOdex -> A to Z - SBF 2.1.1 + 1080p + P.ROMS!

After various requests, official and unofficial I have taken the time to consolidate all the needed information to make the flashing process as simple and as noob friendly as possible! Please follow the guide below!
This is the A to Z guide on how to Flash custom SBF, Root, Install Recovery and enable such things as GreyBlur and 1080p recording on the Atrix!
After the release of 2.1.1 from France’s MotoAtrix I was anxious to see what could be done on this SBF.
As we know this is the latest SBF released on the 29th of April, 2011. It is, based on the version numbers, the next step forward from 0.37 on the Stock BELL phone.
After a lot of benchmarking (now 2800-2900 hundered on Smartbench 2011) and testing as well as feedback from the Intl/Bell community, it seems this is the most responsive and battery efficient SBF. I’m amazed at how speedy the phone is, including boot up (which is at least a third faster than 1.4.2)… HSUPA is unlocked as well on this SBF, so this is good news for us as there is no need to flash custom, sketchy mods to enable this on our phones. As for the fingerprint reader, the driver appears to have been updated so it is incredibly responsive so this is an improvement although 1.4.2 was great in this regard.

At the moment though, as it stands I can only recommend you install GreyBlur as it is currently the one with the least amount of bugs, and the BEST battery performance.

STEP 1: How to Flash the latest SBF (Guide for EVERYONE)
This is a quick guide on how to flash the latest SBF.
This applies to all SBFs as well so use as needed but operate with caution as doing something wrong here could seriously damage your phone. Make sure the SBF file you are attempting to flash is compatible with your phone. (RESEARCH, do no ask in these threads as Google will easily yield the correct results)
-Make sure your phone is unplugged
-Install the required Drivers for your phone (x32 bit or x64 as needed)
-Extract the SBF zip file to your desktop. It will create a folder with a file with an .SBF extension and should be about 1.4gb in size.
-Install RSD Lite using the installer linked above. This will create an Icon on your Desktop
-Execute RSDLite. This process will take a long while the first time, about 3-4 minutes max.
-Once the program is open, plug in your phone in to the computer. Wait for Windows to notify you that the drivers have been configured correctly (takes 2-3 minutes max)
-Unplug your phone from your PC and then reboot your phone.
-As the the phone powers up (Right as the Red M appears) HOLD the VOLUME UP key…
-The phone will display this message: “Starting RSD protocol support”
-Wait about 20 seconds (on the safe side)
-Having the RSD Lite window open, plug in your phone.
-RSD Lite will display your phone information in the bottom and should list it under slot 1.
Status: Connected…
-Click the button the left of START, a button labeled as: “…”.
-Navigate to the SBF file you extracted above.
-Once you have selected this SBF file, the information readout will display in the “File Properties” Window.
Now you are ready to flash:
-Select START
This process will take about 5-10 minutes depending on your computer. You will know this process is finished once your phone has fully booted and about 2 minutes have passed. WAIT the 2 minutes as sometimes people unplug the phone before RSDLite clears and this has caused issues previously. At this point, after having flashed:
REBOOT your phone. DO NOT SETUP until after the first reboot.
-Unplug your phone from your computer, close RSDLite
-After Reboot, complete the MotoBlur setup. (you can skip it but it’s better not to as it is known to cause some issues on some SBFs and phones).
Wait a few minutes and now the phone is ready for the next step.
You have now successfully flashed!

STEP 2: ROOT and RECOVERY
REQUIREMENTS:
External SD card. Make sure your phone has it inside. <– THERE IS NO WAY TO ROOT WITHOUT THIS.
Noob HELP – Skip this section if you are experienced with ADB and debugging mode.
In order to prepare for this download the “Preparation Script” from the Required Files section above.
-Making sure your phone is unplugged go to:
“Settings -> Applications -> Development”
-Enable USB Debugging – Tick the box.
-Plug in the USB cable to the phone
-Wait for the phone to acknowledge the connection.
-Pull down the Notification bar up top and select “USB Connection”
-In this prompt select “None” and press OK
-The phone will reconnect to the computer with USB.
-Unplug the phone and reboot
-After the phone boots up, plug the phone to the computer.
Now let’s move on to ROOT and RECOVERY
-Make sure USB Debugging is enabled. Plug in your phone (if not already plugged)
-Extract SevenPrepare.zip to your C:\ drive, Example: C:\SevenPrep
-Double click SevenPrep.bat
-Follow the prompt. This will basically install GingerBreak and System Recovery
-After the prompt closes, execute GingerBreak from your appdrawer and hit "Root".
-The phone will reboot. After the phone reboots, execute "System Recovery" from your appdrawer and hit "Install Recovery"
-You will get a SuperUser prompt, asking you to either Allow or Deny this application access to your phone. Hit “Allow”
-After a few seconds it will say “Install complete”
Your phone is now Rooted and Recovery has been installed - Stop here if you are interested in keeping your phone on STOCK and are not interested in flashing the Ginger/Grey ROMS. If you wish to de-odex stock 2.1.1 read below, if you do not know what this is, skip it.
DE-ODEXING (OPTIONAL)
If you are interested in theming stock 2.1.1 or installing language packs such as arabic, you will need a De-Odexed ROM. In order to do so I've created a little tool that will get you going.
REQUIREMENTS:
Make sure you have downloaded Seven's Deodex Tool 2.0.
>>Please be aware this tool is ONLY for 2.1.1. Using it otherwise WILL brick your phone.<<
-Make sure USB Debugging is enabled. Plug in your phone (if not already plugged)
-Extract SevenDeodex2.zip to your C:\ drive, Example: C:\SevenDeodex2
-Double click SevensDeodex.v2.0
-Follow the prompt. This will basically install the deodexed system files and give you instructions on what to do next.
-DO NOT CLOSE THE CMD PROMPT.
-After all the files have been copied, simply follow the instructions listed in the BAT file.
If you read the prompt carefully you will see it instructs you do the following the following:
-Open up ADB Shell and type the following commands in this order, one by one:
su
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 755 install_script.sh
./install_script.sh
Simple! It will take a minute to finish. Once it is done your phone will reboot and you will be de-odexed!

Step 3: Preparing and Flashing GreyBlur/GingerBlur
>> IF YOU HAVE A LAPDOCK READ HERE!! << - >> If not skip this portion and move to: How to Flash GreyBlur!
It just so happens that if you simply flash over 2.1.1 the default keyboard layout for the Lapdock will be stored as AZERTY and your special characters will not function properly. This is mainly because by default the hardware keyboard layout is set to France.
BEFORE flashing GingerBlur/GreyBlur you MUST follow these steps to ensure that the selected Keyboard layout matches your current Lapdock SKU.
You must do the following:
-Dock your Phone with Stock 2.1.1 on your Lapdock.
-Wait for Webtop Environment to properly initialize.
-Once the Webtop has booted, go to the upper right hand corner and click the COG. This will open up a menu.
-Select Keyboard
-Click on the "Test settings box" and type freely using your Lapdock keyboard. As you will notice it will not type what you keyboard layout is unless you have the French lapdock.
-Click the Keyboard Language... button
-This will boot you into Settings->Language & Keyboard Settings
-Scroll to the bottom and you will see two boxes that will allow you select which Keyboard layout you wish to choose.
-Set BOTH of them to English US (if this is your keyboard layout, this applies to Canada, US). If you have a different layout, choose it from here!
-You will notice it will NOT let you set the bottom one untill you unplug your phone and replug it. Follow the instructions!
-Once you have successfully changed these settings go back to the "Test settings box" and type freely using your Lapdock keyboard.
Now it will properly reflect your current layout and these settings will be saved! Move on to the next section below.
How to Flash GreyBlur!
REQUIREMENTS: AC Power Adapter – keep this plugged in until you finally boot GreyBLur.
-Having downloaded either GreyBlur or GingerBlur, copy one of these files the root of your INTERNAL SD card.
-Make sure Recovery has been installed (if you followed the guide above you are ready to go!)
-Once Recovery has been installed, open the program and plug your phone to the AC power.
-Select “Recovery Mode” -> You will receive another SuperUser Prompt. Select ALLOW.
-The phone will now reboot and enter Clockwork Recovery.
NOTE: If at this point you could not enter recovery, it is because you are NOT plugged into AC power. It will NOT work on USB power as this is a security measure so that we can access Clockwork Recovery when our phone is not booting into Android OS.
-Once in Recovery, use the VOLUME UP and DOWN keys to navigate.
-Navigate down to the option “Install zip from SDCARD”, Press the power button to enter that submenu.
-Once in this new menu select: “Choose zip from internal SD Card”
-Select the zip file you copied in the steps above. Example: GreyBlur-2-1.zip
-Once you have selected this zip file, scroll down and select YES.
-The installer will run and once it is finished it will say “Install from sdcard complete”
-Select “+++++Go Back+++++”
-Once at this menu select: “Wipe DATA/Factory Reset”
-Select “Yes”
-It will take a few seconds until this is complete and you will see a message that says “Data Wipe Complete”
You are now ready to start your phone!
-Unplug your phone from the AC power
-Select “Reboot System Now”
You will now see how the GingerBlur/GreyBlur logo as your phone boots up shortly after the Red M “Dual Core” Logo.
-After the boot finished, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS select “Set-Up”
NOTE: >>SKIPPING THIS MAY CAUSE ISSUES SO DO NOT SKIP IT. SWYPE WILL CRASH. <- This is normal until we apply a fix! <<
-Complete the MotoBlur setup. (In this case, NEVER SKIP THIS….!!!!!!!!)
-Register or log into motoblur blah blah blah you’re done!
-As you are finishing it will prompt you to update your phone. DO NOT UPDATE!!! Just select later….
-Add any needed APNs to enable DATA on your phone. If you don’t know how to do this read the FAQ at the end of this post.
-You will also see a POWER icon on your upper left hand corner. Open the notification bar, click the notification and select the correct profile for you. I use PERFORMANCE MODE.
You now have successfully Flashed GreyBLUR on your phone but this is NOT all that is needed.
Read below.

Step 4: Apply BlurFix Patches to fix compatibility issues with GreyBlur/GingerBlur and enable performance tweaks!
This patch will fix update notification NAGS, remove Swype and also will enable 1080p Video recording as well as enable performance tweaks!
READ FAQ for more information.
Noob HELP – Skip this section if you are experienced with ADB and debugging mode.
-Pull down the Notification bar up top and select “USB Connection”
-In this prompt select “None” and press OK
-The phone will reconnect to the computer with USB.
-Debugging mode will now be enabled.
If it does not:
-Unplug the phone and reboot
-After the phone boots up, plug the phone to the computer.
Patching:
-Having downloaded Seven’s Blurfix Patch from the Required Downloads above, extract this file to your C:\ drive. Example: C:\SevenBlurpatch
-Open SevenBlurpatch folder
-Run “Seven's Blurfix”
-Follow the steps prompted in the CMD window.
-After the script files have been copied over it will ask you to press any key to continue.
-It will leave you with an open ADB Shell, displaying the “$” symbol.
Type in the following commands in this order:
su
At this point, MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE’s SCREEN IS ON. PAY ATTENTION as it will prompt you to ALLOW or DENY. Select ALLOW on your phone or this will FAIL. If it fails run Seven’s Blurfix again.
The $ sign will change to a # sign.
This means you have Root access through the terminal window. Now we will manually execute the script.
Type the following command at the # prompt:
./data/local/tmp/blurfix_script.sh
After this the phone will reboot and then you are READY TO GO! Read Step 5 for APN information and FAQ!
No more ATT update nags, no more issues and 1080p recording enabled! Performance tweaks enabled, tethering re-enabled. Read the FAQ Section on how to record in 1080p!

STEP 5 - APN Information and FAQ
Here is the correct APN information for all pertinent carriers. I was unable to find the Korean APN information so if someone will PM me this, I will gladly add it!

This is how you add APN settings:
-Press the Menu key
-Go to Settings
-Go to Wireless controls
-Go to Mobile networks
-Go to Access Point Names
-Press the Menu key
-Select New APN
-Add pertinent information
Depending on what carrier you use, these are the settings:
You might need to add 2 APNs for your specific carrier.
Whatever is does not have settings, leave blank.
After you have added your APN information make sure you ENABLE the little RADIO icon.. its the circular icon, that is usually empty after adding APN information.
Frequently Asked Questions!
Q) What's so special about 2.1.1 vs Stock or 1.4.2
A) A lot of things! Some of the most noticeable improvements are the boot time when using stock 2.1.1. It is FAST and the display is much more responsive than stock Bell Motoblur. Also MotoBlur is much more responsive in loading and switching between screens, even the stock keyboard is an improvement in terms of feedback and usability. Stock 2.1.1 no longer lags when typing. The fingerprint reader has improved significantly as well in comparison to previous SBF. Quadrant scores also went up for me in comparison to 1.4.2 GreyBlur. There is a lot of feedback regarding this but all of it has been GOOD.
Q) Should I stay on 2.1.1 STOCK or should I flash GreyBlur/GingerBlur?
A) Stock is actually quite decent, for Canadian Fido users there is a HUGE improvement as the carrier name is actually correct now and does not take 50% of the notification bar. None the less, GreyBlur runs beautifully and even faster on this SBF! Its quite impressive in boot time, smoothness and the loss of all the bloatware is quite good. It also provides theming support for us International users, so that we may use 1.5.7/1.8.3 framework themes!
Q) 1080p recording?!
A) Yes.. By running Seven's Blurfix Patch, LGCamera Free is installed. This as well as an internal mod allows 1080p recording on the phone! There are however special settings to get it to work.
Instructions:
-Start LGCamera
-Press the Back key to get rid of the purchase nag or buy the full version!
-Select the Video option to switch Video recording
-Press the menu key to open the options menu
-In the options menu scroll down to Video settings and set the following settings. (This is the only way 1080p will work!)
Video Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (1080p)
Encoder: Default
File Format: MPEG4
Video Bitrate 13 Mbit
Hit the red button and you're good to go!
Q) What is HSUPA?
A) High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) is a 3G mobile telephony protocol in the HSPA family with up-link speeds up to 5.76 Mbit/s. By default both the ATT and Bell ROMS have this disabled and therefore features like Voice over IP, skype, videochat are almost unusable. By enabling HSUPA this allows you to use these and also benefit from faster uplink access therefore speeding up you're mobile internet.
Q) Why is GingerBlur 3.1 not recommended.
A) It has been shown in various threads and people's reports (in my original thread) that 3.1 has various glitches and issues. Non functional Home button (when skipping motoblur setup), wifi issues (although most of them resolved now) as well as terrible battery life. GreyBlur on the other hand has proven to work PERFECTLY and is a better platform to have custom framework modded ontop of it. Use all both of these at your own risk!
Q) Why is Swype removed by applying BlurFix Patch?
A) Because there are issues with it. I'm also not allowed to post information or files related to swype on how to fix it. The alternative is to install the updated beta which can be found here in the DEV section. Much better fix/alternative.
Q) I want my Launcher to be smoother! How?
A) Use LauncherPro. It is by far the smoothest. A good alternative is GoLaucher Ex which is also great.
Q) I did not get the Power Icon that you mentioned in your guide.. what did I do wrong?
A) This is a feature of the Atrix called Power Management. It can be accessed at: Settings->Battery Manager -> Battery Mode. There you can select whatever profile you want!
Q) I want to flash other themes! What do I do?!
A) Feel free to flash any theme that is for ATT framework ONLY.. As long as you have GreyBlur installed this will work. Try to flash themes for 1.5.2 and 1.8.x ATT. Previous ones are unknown and unsupported.
Q) I flashed a theme and now, my phone wont boot!!! what do I do? Do I have start over again?
A) No you dont! First if this happened, you have to Factory Reset. (That sucks.. But its the price we have to pay to get this functioning)
Follow this short guide below: How to access Android Recovery
-On your first reboot after flashing a new theme, hold VOL down as the phone powers on.
-Then use power down again to select Android Recovery
-Once selected, press Power button ONCE, then VOL UP
-Tap lower right hand corner of screen if you have no buttons
-Select Wipe data/factory reset using volume buttons
-Triple tap (or more) on the lower left hand corner of the screen to select OK
-Using the same method, reboot the phone using that option in the menu!
-The phone should boot.
Should the phone not boot, it means you flashed something unsupported so back to square one!
Q) My Lapdock Keyboard is all messed up!! What do I do?
A) Unfortunately you did not read the section above (STEP 3) which specifically states what should be done in preparation to flash so that your Lapdock Keyboard functions properly. I am attempting to create a hotfix patch for this to avoid people having to reflash but at the moment there is no other way.
Q) I wish to DeOdex Stock 2.1.1 so that I may theme my phone without using GingerBlur/GreyBlur or to install Arabic Language pack. What do I do?
A) Read STEP 2, after ROOT and RECOVER there is a section now, which contains instructions on how to use the 2.1.1 DeOdex tool I've created.
Q) I'm having connectivty issues with DATA and VOICE.. what do I do?
A) Flash this radio -> HERE. This generally solves issues with connectivity.

This info will be added to the FAQ section but just be aware 3.1 drains battery like hell. Don't mind people saying that resetting stats will fix it but a lot of people have reported issues with that. (I suspect it has something to do with Gallery3D version which is a known drain)
2.1 on the other hand has much snappier performance and the battery life is just a lot better.
Also people using phones from other regions, international regions have reported issues with it if you read the thread.

ya, i did have the battery issue but it's much improved (in my case anyway) with a battery calibration.
Battery drain or not that Gallery3D is horrible.

Question about the 1080p recording - is this sufficient for a daily driver? I don't use my camera a ton but when I do, it's normally extremely critical. And because we have another camera app included (which has the options to allow 1080p after we've applied the appropriate mod) is it safe to assume that the native camera app is the same?
I guess what I'm asking is if the normal camera app stays as is, where as the LGFree camera app is able to use the mod?

Now I can't even begin to imagine how much opportunity there is once we start looking at Gingerbread and future framework. Ok so what exactly is fixed in this sbf? Telstra fixed the hsupa... what does this fix?

The regular app does not support 1080p yet. This is simply because there was probably no budget left when developing this to enable it (although simple enough, would probably require a lot tweaking on their part to get the best out of the camera)
As for LGCamera, the Free version or paid version can both produce MUCH better image quality than the Stock camera. I will add some more information to the FAQ as to how to improve image quality using LGCamera.

Yes you can get Gingerbread theme. Check the Themes and Apps section! you can find plenty that work on ATT framework! After you flash though and if your phone does not boot, make sure you simply do Factory Reset (I know this sucks terribly.. but its the price we pay to get this functional!)

[How To][For Newbs] Unlock/Root/Recovery/Nameless ROM v7 (and SIM Unlock!) Desire C

It looks like CM10 is the way to go for ROM on this phone... if there's enough demand (or if someone hasn't already written one) I may re-write this for CM10 if I have the spare time.
Unlocking, Rooting, and installing Custom ROMs can brick your phone! If you're going to follow these instructions, then make sure you FOLLOW THEM! Don't skip steps, or assume you have all the software if you don't. Best case it just won't work but worst case you'll need to completely restore your phone and that can be difficult and sometimes impossible! Proceed with caution, especially for new users. I used Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for these steps -- however they will also work fine (if you're a semi-experienced linux user) on Ubuntu 13.04 and Fedora 18. Check my profile for my email if you have questions and nobody is answering here, as I don't come on XDA much anymore. Catch me over at eevblog.com/forum if you need, my username there is MrAureliusR.

You'll Need:
HTC Desire C (obv)
Working internet connection to go to HTCDev Boot Unlocker
An archiving software, eg WinZip, WinRAR, 7zip, etc (in Windows)
A copy of Superboot for the Desire C, which you can download here . You can follow their instructions if you want, I'll be basing this part off of theirs anyway with additional info for newbs
A copy of a recovery module, namely CWM for Desire C -- found here (written by munjeni -- all credit goes to him!!)
A copy of Nameless ROM (I use v7, all versions can be found here (written by einstein.frat -- all credit goes to him!!)

A copy of WinRAR is helpful -- go here if you need one and pick the English .exe near the top.
Also, when going to the HTCDev website, pay close attention to the box that says Required Software. You need all three of the things they ask for, namely:
Android SDK Tools
HTC Sync Manager (it contains the USB drivers for your phone)
Java Runtime Environment
I won't give links for these as they provide them there. As I mention below, these are super important! Don't forget!
IMPORTANT NOTES:​
ALL the files you need (with the exception of software that is downloaded and installed (ie Android SDK Tools and HTC Sync Manager, WinRAR) should be put into C:\Android ... this makes things SO much easier when you go into command prompt as all you need to type is cd C:\Android before typing the other commands I give.
Another point to keep in mind -- any time you need to put the Desire C into "bootloader" mode, you need to disconnect the phone from the USB cable, and take the battery out, put it back in, and power on by holding Power + Volume Down at the SAME TIME. Easiest way for a newb to do this is push Volume down FIRST and hold it, then hold the power button too till the screen lights up. If it just boots normally, you didn't take the battery out. Hold them till the screen lights up with a bunch of text. You'll use the volume buttons to move through the menu, and the power button works like the Enter button - it selects whatever option you have highlighted. Before you finish step 1, it will say ***LOCKED*** at the top. Afterward, it will say ***UNLOCKED*** ... also, you always need fastboot mode. You have to select this from the list. Sometimes, you might need to select Bootloader and THEN fastboot. Either way, for any of these steps to work, it needs to say FASTBOOT USB at the top above the menu options. This means you've selected fastboot mode AND the USB cable is plugged in, plus the drivers have been installed and your computer can communicate with the phone (FYI this is why HTC Sync Manager must be installed).
This method, like all ROM installs, requires a factory wipe. This means that EVERYTHING on the internal memory (texts, contacts, apps that aren't on the SD card, calendar info, basically all your personal info) will be wiped. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY DO SOME BACKUP FIRST! I will stress there are TWO TIMES at LEAST you should back everything up -- first, right now, before you've done anything, and second, when in recovery mode right before we wipe again and overwrite the original ROM. That way you have fail safes and an easy way to restore in case of error. If you follow the instructions closely, you shouldn't have any problems... also, if you later want to relock and unroot, having your stock ROM is invaluable! It's quite likely you'll never get it out of your wireless provider!
Whenever I mention CMD or command prompt I'm telling you to go to Start --> Run and then type in "cmd" (no quotation marks) and hit enter
Step 1: Unlock your Bootloader
​ So, the first step is to unlock your bootloader. As I mentioned before, there are instructions on the HTCDev website. But I'll give you quick pointers on that process:
Go to the HTCDev website
When you select your phone model from the list, the Desire C is NOT listed. Instead, scroll to the bottom of the list and click "All Other Supported Models"
HTCDev will require you to register. It's a good idea because that website can be very useful
The website will also ask you if you are sure you want to do this -- remember, doing any of these things can and probably will void your warranty -- make sure you're willing to part with it before proceeding.
MAKE SURE you have all the software I mentioned above installed. I cannot stress this enough as many, many questions on other threads were resolved by simply ensuring the latest versions of all three are installed. Just follow the links before you do anything else on the Step 1 page. Some of the files are big (>100MB) so it might take a while depending on your connection speed. Be patient -- these are vital to everything working!!!
Follow the steps CLOSELY. It's pretty easy, even for someone who doesn't have much experience. However if you can open My Computer and you know where the Run... dialog is in Windows you'll be fine. A key pointer that I almost missed is you HAVE to remove your battery, you can't just choose the Power Off option after hitting your Power button. This is because you need the phone to coldboot (boot from scratch)
At the end of three pages, they will email you a file that you'll need to finish the process. This is why you had to register, and why it's important to use a real email address. Before you follow that last step, make sure you select, copy and paste EXACTLY what they ask for, or else it probably won't work.
You'll get the binary unlock file via email. Download this, and copy it to the same directory you used for the previous steps (I used C:\Android because it's the easiest to get to when using Command Prompt ... FYI if they don't mention it, you have to use the command cd C:\Android (or whatever directory you put the files you gathered in the second page into) before it will recognize fastboot as a command, because you need to be in the directory that executable is in. Super important for newbs who haven't used cmd before!!!
Follow the last few steps, and voila! You have a bootloader unlocked HTC Desire C :laugh:
Was that so hard??? Not really. Now for the second step, installing Superboot. This step is pretty easy too.
Step 2: Load Superboot​
So next step. This one is quite a bit easier.
Go to this link and download Superboot r1 for Desire C
Extract the .zip to a directory (I used, again, C:\Android\r1-golf-superboot or something like that)
Reboot your phone into bootloader mode, just like you did at the beginning of the HTCDev steps in the last step. It should now say ***UNLOCKED*** at the top. If it doesn't, you did something wrong in the first step. Go back and re-read everything and make sure you did it right. Remember, every time you want to get into bootloader mode, you have to remove the battery first, then power on while holding Volume Down
Once your phone is rebooted into Bootloader, and it's connected via USB cable, select Fastboot (again, just like last time) in the menu. It should say FASTBOOT USB at the top
Now go into the folder you created with r1-golf-superboot in it, and just double-click install-superboot-windows.bat
If it was successful, it'll say so. Nothing will have changed on the phone's screen. Reboot the phone. It should automatically load and reboot the phone. While booting up it may take a bit longer because superboot is setting up your superuser privileges.
For advanced users:
Another easier way (at least for me) is once you've extracted r1-golf-superboot.rar, copy the boot.superboot.img into your working directory (C:\Android)
Boot the phone into fastboot USB mode
Type the command: fastboot boot boot.superboot.img and bang! It'll load and reboot automatically. I like this method because I like to do every command line step by hand, call it a Linux user habit.
Now you're unlocked, and Rooted!! How easy was that? Superboot is great for newbs because it automatically installs superuser (su) and the superuser APK, no messing around with anything else required.
Step 3: Install CWM Touch Recovery for HTC Desire C​
This step is super, super important because it allows you to back up your current config and also to wipe everything. Backing up is almost completely necessary! If something DOES go wrong you can just restore the backup you're going to make. Plus you also use CWM Recovery mode to later install the Nameless ROM (or any ROM) from a .zip file.
Again, there's instructions on the download page thread, but I'll help with some pointers for newbs here.
Go to this link and download the file. It's an attachment called CWM_Touch_Desire_C.rar on the first post. If you have trouble opening this .rar then just search WinRAR in Google and download that, it's free and works great. Don't worry, even though it's a beta in my experience it's completely stable. Not to mention a great piece of software by munjeni
You're going to use fastboot to install this. It's a quick, pain-free process like the last step. Just remember to do everything exactly as follows:
Extract the one file in the .rar (recovery.img) to C:\Android
Open up cmd again and go to C:\Android (cd C:\Android)
type in fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and hit enter. Boom! Done. just remember to reboot your phone before cotinuing with the next step.
EDIT: Also, before installing the ROM, it's a VERY good idea to make a backup using CWM Recovery. Boot into bootloader mode, select recovery, choose Backup and Restore, and pick Backup. If it defaults to your internal memory, then pick backup to external SD.
NOTE: It's up to you which recovery to use. Once you've downloaded a compatible .img file, the easiest thing to do is rename it to recovery.img and type the above command.

Step 4: Install Nameless ROM v7 for HTC Desire C​
This is the final step, and the most difficult one. There's a couple different steps that need to be done properly for everything to work.
UPDATED FOR VERSION 7 OF NAMELESS
Go here and download version 7 to your desktop. (NaMeLeSsR0m_v7.o.0_HtCDeSiReC.zip) The boot.img is inside the archive now (as of v7, if you have an earlier version you need to get the boot.img that goes with it, ask in this thread or in the Nameless thread)
Once the .zip for the ROM is downloaded, remove the boot.img and put it in your android folder (C:\Android). Copy the rest of the archive onto the SD card. You can either do this using a cardreader (if your computer has one built-in or you have one for your camera or something) or because you have the HTC Sync Manager installed you can just boot into your regular version of android and when you connect the USB cable, pick "Disk drive" as the connection type. Then just drag and drop the file into the SD card. MAKE SURE that you're a) copying it to the SD card, NOT the internal memory b) copying it directly into the top level folder of the SD card. For example, if it shows up as drive J:, then you copy it to J:\ and not into any folder
Now, reboot your phone back into bootloader mode. Again, select fastboot, and make sure it says FASTBOOT USB. Remember, you need to unplug the USB cable, remove the battery, power up into bootloader (Power + Volume Down) and then reconnect the USB cable after it boots (see Important Notes at the top if you've forgotten).
Open cmd and go to C:\Android
Type in fastboot flash boot boot.img and bang! It's done. This step is crucial or your Wi-Fi won't work -- also with v6, this is necessary for other features to work, like customization. If you've come here and you've already installed the ROM and your Wi-Fi just says error, you need to flash the boot.img onto the phone.
Now that you've flashed the boot.img, select Reboot in Bootloader on the phone. You can disconnect the USB cable now. However, make sure your phone is mostly (minimum %80) charged
When the bootloader comes up again, this time select Recovery. This is the software you installed in the last step. This is a REALLY great little recovery program that has a lot of neat options and awesome features. It's very easy to use and it even uses touch! However I have huge hands and I just continue to use the volume up/down and power buttons to move through the menus.
Once you're in recovery mode, the FIRST THING you should do is select backup/restore and backup everything, to the SD card. I had a problem with this step: even though I picked SD for the backup it told me there was only 93MB of room and it probably wasn't enough. This makes me think that it was trying to backup to internal memory. (EDIT: You have to just choose backup, not backup to SD card, because it's switched -- backup to SD card will try to backup to the phone's internal memory... the reason I didn't realize this earlier was because I had very little room left on my 2gb sd card and thought that 93mb seemed right ^_^) Anyway, IF THAT HAPPENS TO YOU, and you are unable to back up, DO NOT PROCEED ANY FURTHER. If people are having this problem I will find a way to fix it. Personally, I was VERY VERY stupid and decided to install the ROM anyway, without a backup -- however, if my phone had died or any of a thousand other things had gone wrong I would have had MAJOR problems... DON'T do this without a backup!!!!! I cannot stress this enough. If something goes wrong and you have a backup to restore you will feel like such a pro. If something goes wrong and you don't you'll feel like a fool and spend hours trying to restore your original ROM.
After you've backed up, go back to the main menu (using the touch buttons at the bottom of the screen) and select wipe data/factory reset. Scroll down to the one 'Yes' option and select it.
Then go back to the main menu, select wipe cache partition, and again say Yes.
Go back to the main menu again, go to Advanced, then select Wipe Dalvik Cache, and select yes. NONE OF THESE STEPS CAN BE UNDONE -- make sure you've backed up first!!!
Now, go back to the main menu, and select "install ZIP from sdcard" ... scroll down and pick the Nameless ROM ZIP file that you copied earlier (NaMeLeSsR0m_v7.o.0_HtCDeSiReC.zip)
NOTE: einstein.frat has changed the installer as of v7 build 5 and up. Simply pick "wipe + install" if you want to do a fresh install, and then pick "Standard" for installation type. If you are upgrading from a previous version of Nameless, then simply go to mounts and storage in the CWM main menu, format /system & /cache, then go back to the main menu; pick advanced, and then Wipe Dalvik Cache. THEN proceed with the installation, and pick don't wipe.
You're basically done!!! Once the phone reboots, DON'T freak out if it takes upwards of 5 minutes on the boot screen... which is now an animation of the world turning!

CUSTOMIZING THE LOOK OF YOUR DESIRE C (MOVED UP HERE)​
Wow! I've been off XDA for a bit, and I just came back around now (was away visiting family...) can't believe Nameless is at 5.0! I'm installing it now and then I have to re-push my custom battery, lockring and boot animation... I'm going to add those three things in this post here, just so all the info is in one place. Remember that to make your phone look really sick a good wallpaper makes ALL the difference. You can find some sweet ones on deviantART and also in the original Nameless ROM thread, einstein.frat lists some cool ones in a post there... I actually use one of the ones that he listed!!! All together I think my phone looks pretty sick, have a look here and here !!! Remember that if this post helped you please click THANKS, these walkthroughs look short but this one took me over an hour to put together. The one above took way longer!!!
REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE TO DO THE COMMAND adb shell sysrw BEFORE YOU CAN PUSH ANY FILES!!!
LOCKRINGS & BATTERY ICON MODS:​
So in the original Nameless thread, somewhere... einstein links to a page full of custom lockrings. I won't go into too much detail in making custom lockrings, but I will explain how to push them onto the phone. Don't follow instructions elsewhere -- if you have all the proper software from my original post that's all you need with the Desire C. Lockrings need to be .jpg, and they need to be 171 x 171 pixels. They also need to be named lockscreen_ring.jpg. You can make pretty much any image a lockring but it's cooler to choose something that's circular. I'm a HUGE Gears of War fan so my lockring looks like this: (red one in the upper left) ... if you want to use any of these go to this post but DO NOT look at his steps!! I'll explain it much simpler here. Just use that page to harvest yourself a lockring.

REMEMBER THIS IMPORTANT TIP: you have to use a program like Photoshop to resize the image to 171 x 171 ... YOU CANNOT USE MS PAINT as it just crops and does not actually resample the image... and 'resizing' it in paint by dragging the little handles creates a gross, blocky, choppy, crap image that nobody wants on their nice HTC Smartphone I downloaded a program called Paint.NET which is actually a great image editor. It's free and does a great job making lockrings and/or battery mods.
Battery mods are more difficult to make... because most battery mods that you'll find are not prepared properly for the Desire C, unless you are comfortable with the stock one you actually have to harvest a preview image of a battery mod, chop it into 100 equal pieces, and the save each one as a different 'frame'. This is a very complicated (and frustrating to do by hand!!) process... IF YOU WANT to try the battery mod that I made (warning: it's not perfect... I mean, it looks fine but if you watch the battery icon while it's charging you'll see what I mean ) I will include it in this post along with my Gears of War lockring...
LOCKRING STEPS:​ Once you've got your lockring ready, follow these steps:
Download this file - HtcLockscreenLite.apk (new link, I'm hosting it now)
Open HtcLockscreenLite.apk with WinRAR
Drag and drop your lockscreen_ring.jpg to the folder /res/drawable-mdpi/ INSIDE the HtcLockringLite.apk archive. If anyone is confused by what I mean by this, don't hesitate to ask and I'll clarify with screenshots.
Put your now customized HtcLockringLite.apk in your ADB folder (C:\Android in my walkthrough above)
Open up cmd and dir to the ADB folder
Remember to type adb shell sysrw first
Type command adb push HtcLockscreenLite.apk /system/app/
Reboot and voila! There's your lockring
EDIT: Answered my own question. You have to re-push the lockring even after pushing SystemUI.apk So the one I included will ONLY do my battery mod.
BATTERY MOD STEPS:
​ Ugh, I'm getting tired as it's 1:30 AM here in Canada (I wrote the boot animations part about 20 minutes ago, if you were wondering LOL). So I'll try and make this sweet and to the point.
If you're a newb, and you're already nervous just being on the xda-developers website, then making your own battery icon might not be that easy for you. You can do it, but it's not in the scope of this walkthrough. I hope you already have all the .png's needed for the battery modification (If you don't and you want to use the custom battery that I converted for use on this phone, then just skip ahead to the steps below. As far as I can tell this SystemUI.apk that I included below will not change your lockring as well...)
I'm going to assume you already have the 200 or so files that make up the battery icon, as follows: (or that you're using the linked file below)

...
stat_sys_battery_100.png
stat_sys_battery_full.png (an exact copy of battery_100.png, for some reason...)
stat_sys_battery_charge_anim0.png
stat_sys_battery_charge_anim1.png

stat_sys_battery_charge_animfull.png (for some reason there's this one too)
If you have all these files, in the size 21 x 21, .PNG format, then you just need to open SystemUI.apk with WinRAR and drag and drop all of them into the /res/drawable-mdpi/ folder. That's MDPI not HDPI ... It'll probably ask you to overwrite if you did it properly. Let it import, and then follow these steps:
Copy your new SystemUI.apk to your ADB folder .. my custom SystemUI.apk is here (if DropBox cuts it off for bandwidth reasons just PM/email me and I'll get it to you).
Open command (cmd) and dir to your ADB folder (outlined above)
Remember to type adb shell sysrw
Type the command adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app/
Voila!! All done. Type adb reboot and check out your sick new mods!!!
BOOT ANIMATIONS:
So you need to find a boot animation that's compatible with this phone, and this version of android (4.0.3). They usually come in .rar format so of course you need WinRAR. Extract this to your folder that you used above, (C:\Android).
The bootanimation that I use can be downloaded here. That bootanimation was made by user kevinrocksman ... once downloaded you extract both files to C:\Android, open up cmd and dir C:\Android (or again, wherever your files and adb are) and then type: (if your file names are different, then PM me and I'll help figure it out. I'm guessing that all the files need to be in a .zip called hTC_bootup.zip no matter what the frames are... I can help )
adb push hTC_bootup.zip /system/customize/resource
adb push htc_boot.mp3 /system/customize/resource
And presto!! Do a reboot from adb by typing in reboot and watch the magic happen Technically that mp3 could be anything, as long as you adhere to the format (ie, MP3, 320kbps, filename: htc_boot.mp3, length 3 seconds). Actually, I have a feeling that mine glitched, because that sound seems like it should be longer than 3 seconds, but hey, its still cool so I haven't screwed with it yet.
EDIT: I have a new .mp3 that's way cooler, it sounds like an old-school modem booting up! You can replace the one above by downloading it here

Yeah I just got this phone four or five days ago and I was surprised to find those things out too. No compass, no backlit keys, and it still needs a lot of developer work. But despite this it runs great, very smooth especially with Nameless.

PS I hope you and your brother realize the risks involved. Make sure you are very careful and follow the steps exactly.

If you want to install custom bootscreens or lockrings, just go to the nameless thread and einstein.frat outlines how to do it... he even shows you how you can make any lockring you want, technically.

Already rooted my phone, but did not install recovery
Deary me, I have a problem. I rooted my phone easily using the instructions on a different website. Unfortunately I cannot post links until I hit 10 osts, which is the first time I ever seen that on a forum! Now I want to install some sort of recovery so I can flash some ROMS and apply tweaks and so on. The guide on that forum only helped me root the phone. Do I need to take some precautions when I install the touch CWM?

Will flashing different kernals when installing the rom help with battery life?

How do you unlock the sim? Supposedly I have a locked Desire C, but I don't think so.
Also, I've followed the walkthrough reaching the Nameless ROM. It all worked fine, but I didn't like theme of the phone, and when changing I noticed some graphical errors in the clock, etc... so I wanted to go back to my backup (note: you don't make it in the internal sd, that's the internal memory, but just the standard backup). And when I got back to it, my wifi doesn't work. I think it's the Nameless boot.img I backed up, since that is flashed before backups are mentioned... I also tried the stock rom from here but Wifi has an error there too. Where can I get a stock boot.img?

Thanks alot for the reply! I will try this out, but I have already rooted my phone so I will try from step 3. We need more development for this phone! Also, does Nameless have a working Wi-Fi?

Haha, awesome. Instead of using backup to SD card, I just chose backup. That default for Backup is SD card while backup to SD card is the opposite, backing up to the phone. I downloaded Nameless v5.0 and the bootscreen is a earth spinning with HTC DESIRE C NAMELESS on the top in Landscape. Hopefully this goes fine... Was really easy installing Touch CWM Recovery. You should update your guide at where the part says "backup to SDcard" to just say choose backup. Phone booted up now, didn't take 5 minutes for the 5.00 THANKS A BUNCH!

I already stated that in the post above you, but it's good you found out by yourself.
BTW the CWM backup gave me a bad md5 checksum, noticed a few people also have the problem, could be due to the CWM itself.

Installed Nameless v5.0 and it is running very stable, my daily driver, no problems except for the occasional slowdowns but I guess that's a problem with Android. Unfortunately, a moderator locked the Nameless development thread

Do you have a desire C? If you want to root your micromax a57 you should search the forums here. If you can't find any info try googling it. If that doesn't work I might be able to help but my area of expertise is currently HTC and LG phones.

[Guide] Downgrade/Root/DualRecovery C6916 Guide

This is my NOOB friendly version for rooting and installing Dual Recovery on a Sony Xperia Z1S (C6916).
First things first, I have written this entire this myself and have only used links from other posts here on XDA.
The thank you's will be at the end of this post.
Ok, Now onto the real reason your here...
Follow these steps to pre-pair your Z1S for the road ahead...​
1) Go to "Settings-About Phone".
Be sure your "Model Number" is "C6916".
Your "Build Number" is "14.4.B.0.37".
If your "Build Number" is different then see 2nd post for "How to Downgrade/Upgrade Build Number"
2) Click "Build Number" about 7 times (I think) to unlock "Developer Mode".
3) Go back to "Settings" screen.
Second option from the bottom should now be "Developer Options".
5) Enter this new screen and enable "USB Debugging".
6) Go back to "Settings" and enter "Security".
Enable "Unknown Sources" and disable "Verify Apps".
7) Go to "support.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/"
Download, Install, plug device in, and it should detect and install drivers for your Z1S.
8) Download & Extract "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900" to a folder on the desktop (Name folder something easy like Z1S).
9) Download & Extract "Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer.zip" from "nut.xperia-files.com/" by clicking the "XZDualRecovery" to the same folder from step #8 (keeping separate folders inside to avoid confusion).
Well that seemed like allot now didn't it? Well the worst is over (hopefully).
Follow the below steps to root your phone...​
1) On computer go to the folder where you extracted "Easy Root Tool v12.4"
Run file called "install.bat"
Wait for it to load and follow the on-screen instructions to gain root.
Notes!!!
a) If at any time it seems like the tool has frozen, it probably has.
Wait for at least 1 minute and then click the red X in the top right of the window to close.
Press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" and select "Start Task Manager" (depending upon windows version).
Choose the "Processes" tab and look for "abd.exe".
Choose it and then click "End Process" and confirm in the new window.
If you do not find "adb.exe" or you have killed it already then repeat step 1.
2) Once Easy Root Tool v12.4 has completed and shows a successes message you will be rooted! But we cant just use it as it is now, its "SuperSU Binary" is outdated.
3) Unplug usb and reboot your phone.
4) Once rebooted, go to the "Play Store" and search for and download "supersu" by "Chainfire" (support him if you can )
5) Once installed run supersu and a window should come up saying to update binaries...well...update them
6) When finished you will now have root, super user control, but outdated "BusyBox".
******* NOTE!!!​I have found out that some users were having problems after updating "BusyBox".
Update at your own risk!!!
BTW it worked for me with and without updating so I'm just giving feedback from other users.
7) Use "Play Store" again to download, install, and run "BusyBox" by "Stephen (Stericson)".
a) Let it run until "Smart Install" is finished.
b) Choose "Replace All (Symlinks all)" (not supposed to be able to but it worked for me )
b1) if it doesn't check then don't worry about it. its an extra step
8) Choose "Install" and wait for process to finish.
9) Congratulations! You now have Root, SuperSU, and BusyBox needed to use your phone to its (almost) full potential.
Now onto the Custom Recovery...​1) Go to the folder we created (in a land far far away...lol...couldn't help it ) and go into the dual recovery folder.
a) Run "install.bat" and (if we installed SuperSU) choose option #1 (if we installed SuperUser) choose option #2.
b) Follow instructions until you get success message. (see above for freeze or errors fixes at 1-a)
2) Congrats again! this time you now have a dual recovery!
a) I recommend installing "NDRUtils [root]" by "CamberCreek", it makes things much easier with your new found recoveries.
Here is my who's who and thank you's for this post. (this is in order of use in guide not relevance or importance)​1) XDA for such a great site!
2) Sony Mobile for a great phone and PC Companion.
3) zxz0O0 for his Easy Root Tool v12.4 without which I would have been lost.

***** NOTE!!!​I'm not sure if its just me/my phone/everyone's phone but i have noticed while working to get adb to recognize my device my usb debugging would seem to not be working (adb devices). If anyone has some feed back about this problem i would love to hear. BTW my device is less then 2 months old.

Ok, so you updated and now want to root? Well great news! We can get you downgraded to "14.4.B.0.37" so you can rock like the rest of them!​
1) Download, install "flashtool.net/downloads.php".
2) Download "storagecow.eu/Xda/Sony/Xperia%20Z1s/C6916_14.4.B.0.37_T-Mobile.ftf".
3) Move "C6916_14.4.B.0.37_T-Mobile.ftf" to folder "C:\Users\(your name)\.flashTool\firmwares".
4) Run "Flashtool" and wait for loading to finish.
a) Connect your device and Flashtool should recognize it and show that it is connected and has debugging turned on.
1a) If debugging is off then go to "Developer Settings" again and turn off then back on the "USB Debugging" option.
b) Click the lightning bolt in the top left area.
c) Choose "Flashmode" and click "Ok".
d) On the left should be the files you moved, choose "", uncheck the "DATA" box on the right side, and lastly choose "Flash".
e) When it says to turn "Off" your device and enter "Flash mode", turn off and wait for the charging screen (if connected still) or it to fully turn off.
f) Disconnect device and hold down "Vol. Down" and plug device back in. When you see your charging lights show/flash a few times you should have a blank screen and no lights.
g) Flashtool should have automatically started flashing now.
h) When finished exit flashmode by removing usb and holding the power button down to turn on. If it dont vibrate after a few seconds just release power and try again.
5) Felicitations! You should not be running "14.4.B.0.37" and are now able to follow above guide!

Forgot to mention that once finished rooting with above method you can upgrade to latest (as of this post) and still keep root. happy rooting

Ok, Now onto the real reason your here...
Follow these steps to pre-pair your Z1S for the road ahead...​
1) Go to "Settings-About Phone".
Be sure your "Model Number" is "C6916".
Your "Build Number" is "14.4.B.0.37".
If your "Build Number" is different then see 2nd post for "How to Downgrade/Upgrade Build Number"
2) Click "Build Number" about 7 times (I think) to unlock "Developer Mode".
3) Go back to "Settings" screen.
Second option from the bottom should now be "Developer Options".
5) Enter this new screen and enable "USB Debugging".
6) Go back to "Settings" and enter "Security".
Enable "Unknown Sources" and disable "Verify Apps".
7) Go to "support.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/"
Download, Install, plug device in, and it should detect and install drivers for your Z1S.
8) Download & Extract "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900" to a folder on the desktop (Name folder something easy like Z1S).
9) Download & Extract "Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer.zip" from "nut.xperia-files.com/" by clicking the "XZDualRecovery" to the same folder from step #8 (keeping separate folders inside to avoid confusion).
Well that seemed like allot now didn't it? Well the worst is over (hopefully).
Follow the below steps to root your phone...​
1) On computer go to the folder where you extracted "Easy Root Tool v12.4"
Run file called "install.bat"
Wait for it to load and follow the on-screen instructions to gain root.
Notes!!!
a) If at any time it seems like the tool has frozen, it probably has.
Wait for at least 1 minute and then click the red X in the top right of the window to close.
Press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" and select "Start Task Manager" (depending upon windows version).
Choose the "Processes" tab and look for "abd.exe".
Choose it and then click "End Process" and confirm in the new window.
If you do not find "adb.exe" or you have killed it already then repeat step 1.
2) Once Easy Root Tool v12.4 has completed and shows a successes message you will be rooted! But we cant just use it as it is now, its "SuperSU Binary" is outdated.
3) Unplug usb and reboot your phone.
4) Once rebooted, go to the "Play Store" and search for and download "supersu" by "Chainfire" (support him if you can )
5) Once installed run supersu and a window should come up saying to update binaries...well...update them
6) When finished you will now have root, super user control, but outdated "BusyBox".
******* NOTE!!!​I have found out that some users were having problems after updating "BusyBox".
Update at your own risk!!!
BTW it worked for me with and without updating so I'm just giving feedback from other users.
7) Use "Play Store" again to download, install, and run "BusyBox" by "Stephen (Stericson)".
a) Let it run until "Smart Install" is finished.
b) Choose "Replace All (Symlinks all)" (not supposed to be able to but it worked for me )
b1) if it doesn't check then don't worry about it. its an extra step
8) Choose "Install" and wait for process to finish.
9) Congratulations! You now have Root, SuperSU, and BusyBox needed to use your phone to its (almost) full potential.
Now onto the Custom Recovery...​1) Go to the folder we created (in a land far far away...lol...couldn't help it ) and go into the dual recovery folder.
a) Run "install.bat" and (if we installed SuperSU) choose option #1 (if we installed SuperUser) choose option #2.
b) Follow instructions until you get success message. (see above for freeze or errors fixes at 1-a)
2) Congrats again! this time you now have a dual recovery!
a) I recommend installing "NDRUtils [root]" by "CamberCreek", it makes things much easier with your new found recoveries.
Here is my who's who and thank you's for this post. (this is in order of use in guide not relevance or importance)​1) XDA for such a great site!
2) Sony Mobile for a great phone and PC Companion.
3) zxz0O0 for his Easy Root Tool v12.4 without which I would have been lost.
4) [NUT]'s Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer.zip recoveries woot!
5) Chainfire for SuperSU the force in this rooted world.
6) Stephen (Stericson) for BusyBox the gears that keep us going.
7) CamberCreek for NDRUtils [root] making Xperia recoveries easier since....
8) Bin4ry & Androxyde for Flashtool making time travel possible?
9) And anyone else i might have missed.

Ugh, where were you when I was stuck on 4.4? :laugh: I ended up downgrading my c6916 to 4.3 when I rooted it, it was the only way I could seem to achieve root. Hopefully this article will help someone out!
I myself haven't experienced any issues with adb/debugging, but maybe it's because I'm on a different os build.
So grateful for the EasyRoot tool!

Two questions...
This file.... Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.3-RELEASE.installer.zip I cannot find. I can only find the 2.8.15 version. Will that do?
Also... Since I just got the lollipop update. Can I OTA to that and keep root?

Yes, that version is fine and will work. Also, I will update this soon. Just been busy with work so haven't had time as of yet. Also if you update you will loose root and have to start over again. Hope this helped.

So I am stuck..
Hey. So I was on 4.5 Lolipop and decided to follow the guide, the 2nd one first of course. And now I am in a Boot loop. and stuck.
Any suggestions or help ?
BTW i really do not want to wipe everything using the companion software. ...Did not fully back it up :/

Hey i was running at lollipop 5.0.2.while i was using the second method first my mobile is looping after flashing...kindly tell me a solution

sorry for not a faster response...haven't had internet for awhile
anyways, for above 2 posts...i had updated to 5.0.2 and had to downgrade myself.
i had followed the same thing as above just updated the programs and apps from their respective owners.
i had no issues and have even upgraded back up to 5.0.2 using a different guide found on xda.
cant remember for the life of me what post it was though...
since i still have no internet and am typing this on friends laptop, i would suggest searching for other guides here to find one.

My apologies beforehand: I have Xperia Z1S (C6916, Android 5.0.2, Build #: 14.5.B.0.247), unlocked bootloader, Android Lollipop & would like to root my phone after first downgrading it. Viewing this post, I would like to know where I can get access to the files mentioned in this post. Or am I a year too late?
