I have recently got myself a tab and am really impressed with it on the whole, however I did find that the pre installed version of Swype is not very good at all soooo......
I used system app remover to remove it and then downloaded the Swype beta version from the Swype website. It is such a massive improvement!. I would recommend it to everyone...
No joke. I'm running the latest Swype beta on Galaxian Soup and it's a ton better than the version bundled with TouchWiz.
I'll try this. Thanks

can you use tibu to freeze the old swype and install the new one, or do you have to remove it alltogether?

Why freeze it? It's not a critical system app. Just back it up and uninstall it. But I doubt you'll be going back.

I flash a lot. I'm getting sick of manually reinstalling apps. I used mybackup pro but it seems like it would forget apps. Right now I'm using AppBrain. Is there any way to back up all apps then reinstall them from the back up and have them run like nothing ever happened?
android should install them automatically once you link your phone with your google account. Other then that not that I know of, unless you move all apps to sdcard.
I think it only does that on the stock rom.
nope, did it for CM6 and Enomthers rom (sorry i cant remember how to spell it)

Seems like everything I've already done myself besides optimized apk... Don't know if that one thing alone is worth a full wipe

Just tried this...not a fan.
Low Quadrant score...the main 2.2 with all the crapware installed + Launcher pro was faster...

Of course it will get better.
The main benefit here is that to try this ROM, I rooted my phone, and had to get the backup and recovery working.
Now when a better ROM comes along, I don't have to repeat that process.
Meh.. Using just the original 2.2 leak my highest score so far doing it legitimately has been 1470... Using the stagefright hack I hit a 2200 one time but feel thats cheating

My scores are pretty much the same, around 1400 without stagefright. I was wanting to clean my system up a bit anyways and this gave me the opportunity. I'll stick with it for now as long as the battery life is good. Can't wait to see what's down the pike though. Hoping for an ASOP soon.

I actually didn't upgrade market this way but it got updated on it's own but reverted back to original market because it wouldn't let me upgrade or download new apps it would say it download it but it would never install them. So for now I'll be sticking to the old market. In case you want the old market pull it from stock rom or a rom like plainjane and then replace it and delete the market updater this will let you keep the market without it getting updated.

Did you try restarting after installing the new market? I was having trouble with it as well, but after a restart it was able to download and install apps again.

delete it using Root Explorer. its in /system/app/. you can probably delete it with Titanium Backup too. Astro doesnt have root permissions.

Latest gmail 2.3.2 apk
Just place onto your sdcard and then install.
Works fine on a Samsung Galaxy S i9000
Yes. it is very simple. And I find this always works:
Install the new version, if it fails, reboot the phone or restart the Java VM. Do the install again. Done.
I have the same problem with the last apk of Gmail and with Launcher Pro Plus.
I have solved both in the same way, deleting the original with SUBFS or another root explorer.
i have the same problem.
then,i take a gmail APP form CM 6.1 to install...
i'll done~
try it!
guess this is still for 2.2 only? i've seen various threads on other forums claiming there's a 2.1 version goin around and im not sure if it's modded or not
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I can't stand the number placement on the stock swype and would like to replace it with the one from BO. I actually have done that and it works, but FC's after a reboot until I disable it or reinstall it. I'm currently on a personally custom debloated, tweak'd, heavily modded and deodexed 'stock' v9 rom. idk if that's the issue or what, it did the same thing on a completely stock rom, but can some one help me? I can't go back to the old swype!!!!!!
My wife said I need a snickers. lol
No, but seriously. Help?

Uninstall the Swype app with an app that has root access, then delete the application data in /data/app, then go to beta.Swype.com and register for an account or login if you have one. You can then download the Swype installer. Run the Swype installer and login, then download and install the latest beta.
