[Q] i9000 major issues - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right... so my phone, for some reason most of the apps on my phone decided to start crashing. Usually on startup I have to hit force close on about 15 apps. I had never until this point flashed my ROM, rooted my phone or anything.
I started of by trying factory reset but it didnt reset anything. I had to run the setup wizard (all the time the apps were all crashing) but when it finished I was still seeing all my apps. So i thought it might be a good idea to uninstall all the downloaded apps but when I do so they just come back when I reboot.
I have since tried flashing the firmware and rooting the device as per the instructions on android soul to flash to 2.3.5
However I am still facing the same problem. Right now I can't get past the setup wizard crashing in a loop.
Any idea's or advice?

[Q] launcher crash after factory reset

Hello,
I have a SGS I9000 Gt from France I think.
Everything was running good. I installed a bunch of apps when I first got the phone, checking stuff out. After playing with it for a few months I now have a good idea of what apps I would like to keep.
I decided to do a factory reset so I could start fresh when froyo does come out.
I performed three button recovery and did factory reset and wipe cache partition.
Problem is when I reboot I constantly receive "The process "blank" has stopped unexpectedly. please try agian." message, and I hit force close and it just pops right back up. TwLauncher, Daily briefing, acore, and a google one.
I did notice that in the recovery mode menu I get some red text saying "multicsc : can not acces to /system/csc/XEF/system/" But when I go through the steps to reset and clear cache, it does it and gives me a message "wipe complete"
I removed battery and sim card No sd, and tried again with no luck, every time I boot now same thing, apps keep crashing.
I hope that makes sense I don't really know what to do.
So yea any help would be great!
Thank you so much for your time.
I almost have the same problem here.
I updated the firmware with Kies, using the default firware that was found by Kies.
I guess it has to be a custom made ROM made by/for my phone service provider (Bouygues, a French company).
Upon restarting, I get the same pop-up messages. Cannot close them fast enough to use anything. My phone is not usable, though not bricked.
Ps : formerly running off-the-factory custom Bouygues rom. Rooted and using OCLF or something lag fix.
I solved at least MY problem :
Do a factory reset and wipe cache AND user data. Simple as that
The answer was actually in the [Warning!!!] Do not flash... thread. I should slap myself for not looking into it first.
Hope it solves your problem too.
Thanks for the help, but how do you how did you wipe user data? Maybe I am blind but I don't see it?
I think I did that when I did the factory reset. When I do boot up however, my original unlock pattern is still set...so I don't know wtf is going on.
FIXED!!
I used Kies Registry Patcher v.1.6.0.0
then reset user data and cache WORKS GREAT AND I HAVE FROYO NOW!!

[Q] Please Help. 3 Day old SGS behaving very strangely

Hello everybody.
I am having serious trouble with my phone and I was hoping some of you might be able to help me out.
I just bought my SGS 3 days ago. It came with android 2.1.1 eclair installed.
I had read that that version was not the best ( the first thing I saw when I opened the phone actually was an error screen, and the lag was horrible) so when I got home I decided to try and upgrade it using the official software for it (Kies).
Unfortunately Kies would simply disconnect my phone when I told it to upgrade, after which it would ask me to upgrade again >.>
So I decided to use Odin to flash one of the newer 2.2.1 versions.
I flashed a 'JS3' version with a repartition to 803 pit , but it crashed after rebooting with the dbdata error (which as I learned later was caused by not flashing a full firmware).
I flashed JPU after which worked great. It was fast and responsive.
However my phone kept crashing. Whether on standby, using apps, or just trying to dial a number, it would freeze, start vibrating, and sometime reset, other times just stay frozen until I force shut down it from the power button.
I flashed JS5 afterwards, with full cache clearing, factory reset etc. Still crashed.
Then I tried flashing Darky's 9.2 Ressurection. Loved it but I couldn't even set up my google account because it crashed constantly.
Then I went back to what I believe is the current official version for my location and carrier (Vodafone Romania), JP9 .
After flashing it didn't crash, but after a while (one night), it started crashing like crazy, even wound up with weird gray lines and a freeze in the morning.
I was hoping someone here might know what is wrong with it. I already sent it back to be serviced but I am thinking maybe I broke it somehow and would like to know how so I don't do it again.
The phone is network locked, which I later learned is usually a bad thing for flashing, unfortunately I didn't know about that when I started.
well first of you want to remove the network lock so try these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913681
next step is to register on www.samfirmware.com (its free) and here is where you will get all the latest official firmwares from samsung..
what you want to do is download (XWJS5) with all 3 files and PIT and flash that through odin with RE-PARTITION..
Before you do that, put your phone into recovery mode (volume up + Home button + Power button ) and do a factory reset / wipe cache ect...
so when you have done that and flashed the new firmware. let me know what the outcome is..
another thing.. ALWAYS MAKE SURE KIES IS CLOSED.... EVEN IN THE ICON TRAY... AND MAKE SURE DRIVERS ARE UP TO DATE.
other than that you shouldn't have any problems
hi, thanks for the advice.
I already did most of that however. I did a factory reset numerous times, and I also did a full repartition flash more than once, to no avail.
I am waiting to get it back from warranty service now but I am wondering what went wrong.
Was it broken when I bought it or did I damage it somehow by trying to flash it while network locked ?
flashing with network lock wouldnt make everything force close. the worst thing that could happen when flashing with network lock is not picking up a signal and possible IMEI corruption.
i think you may have just flashed the wrong ROM, it happens to us all, but the more you do it the more experienced you become and you soon learn methods to restore things..
dont worry too much it will be fine when it comes back from samsung, just be sure to read up properly if you have any doubts.. or ask a question first you will get a reply quicker than you can Unbrick your phone..
My phone seems to hate the 803 pit file. Lots of force closes when I used it. Try using 512, see if that works any better.

[Q] process com.android.mms stopped unexpectedly

Hi,
I have a problem,,, I have a rooted tab, I installed some apps... and recently I have been getting "process com.android.mms stopped unexpectedly"... after which, my WiFi doesn't work, Bluetooth doesnt work and some apps start to force close.
I tried to remove the apps that force close by themselves like PowerAmp but i am unable to unistall! when I try to unistall, Superuser also forcecloses.
I have wiped the device clean 3 times so far, re rooted, reinstalled the clockworkmod etc... it works for a couple of days then starts crashing again!
is there a way to find out what is causing this...
thanks.
Are you using a t-mobile tab? And if so are you using it as 2g + phone?
I use to have the same issue. It didn't stop happening for me until I started using a custom rom.
I am using a custom Rom. It was working fine.
I suspect it is an application I am using that is causing this. but I cannot figure out which one!
Guys, someone please help... After I reinstalled the RoM etc... I just got the same msg today!
Process com.android.mms crashed and followed by whatsapp and photobucket and wifi doesnt work etc etc..
Are you sure your flashing the rom correctly, it should fix these errors, or download the rom agan, maybe your download is corrupt
Yes... it has been working since my last Flash which was April 15 without any issues.
I downloaded some apps from Market yesterday and today I restarted the Tab and when I did I started getting the MMS error again.
When this happens, I am unable to Uninstall any apps, clear cache or data from Settings/applications, or do anything...
Even my previous Backup which was done in Recovery mode is not there :S
There must be some fix for this... Its really frustrating.
I deleted MMSSMS.DB file and still I get the same errors... Seems like an app that I installed received a msg or something and that msg is corrupt... If I didnt know any better, I would think its a virus!
try a factory reset , i hope your problem will go

sgs gone crazy

hi there
getting straight to the problem : i got my sgs (international I9000) 3 months ago and tried to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 but failed many times. then i accidently flashed a vibrant rom (eugene one) in my phone and i couldn't get to dl or recovery mode so i gave it to a local store here that helped me get back to stock 2.1 but i didn't know how he did it .. probably with a jig
everything went fine and i was able to enter both modes but then NUMEROUS force closes appears whenever i open most of apps (google apps and other 3rd party apps but others like massege, phone, contacts, players works fine), can't delete or put anything in the sd card . I tried to fix it with flashing to another stock roms i even tried 2.3 , the flashes were ok but force closes kept coming. I also tried wipe data and factory reset from recovery but to no avail. also when i change settings, delete files, etc .. and then reboot everything goes back to how it was before i did the change
i read many threads that my phone internal might be corrupted from all this @*&* and i thought i would ask here before sending it to samsung hoping i would find a solution here
regards and sorry for bad english

I flashed a vibrant and captivate rom on the first day i got my SGS and promptly soft bricked it.
Was able to get it back and running though, no force closes.
I suggest backing up all your phone internal data SD data (On your computer) etc. And send it to Samsung and just replace all the data afterwards.
I'm not experience enough to aid you (Sorry) and and the problems are a little ambiguous.
Hope i have helped. Good luck getting your phone back and running again

Experienced flasher, soft-bricked my Note 4 real good.

Hi guys and gals.
I've been flashing roms for years and I've soft bricked my devices dozens of times and have always been able to recover, except this time.
I was running Cyanogen mod 12.1 and all the problems started happening after a nightly update. Basically, the phone got super laggy and eventually started random rebooting. I thought it was a bad flash or something was wrong with the latest update so I did a clean wipe and flashed another rom, same thing happened. Eventually I Odined back to stock and it ran fine for a few days but the problems came back. Now the phone won't even finish boot anymore. I used NAND erase all in odin and and reflashed again, it seems to be better since it wont reboot its self anymore but I can't get past the T-mobile splash screen. Last night I tried reformating the NAND using a PIT file but I kept getting "Secure check fail : PIT". I was starting to thing the problem is hardware related but it won't RR in download mode and I think its too big of a coincidence that it happened after the Cyanogen update. Any ideas?
My first and always main advice is that if you are unsure about your hardware the first step is to Odin back to stock. The reason is because it is a bit for bit rewrite back to the way the phone was intended to be run as long as you do a factory reset from Stock Android Recovery before it boots. This is how your phone was when it came out of the box and it is a great way to check if it has a hardware issue by looking for bad behavior when using the original drivers.
If you flash back to stock completely clean and your phone is still acting crazy you might have bad blocks on your NAND, you might have issues with your RAM/CPU, or it might just be a loose hardware connection from heat or impact. But you can only truly diagnose those from Touchwiz because the drivers are first-party, not reverse engineered to be compatible. If you can reinstall all your apps and use it normally for a week then your hardware is good and CM was the problem and you should try another AOSP build.
I am on the 09/09 Nightly for CM and I can tell you that I have no lag or issues on my device at the moment for what that is worth. Good luck!
Thanks. I might just send it into samsung and see what happens.
