SD card is mounted but the data is not visible - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I installed the latest ICS4.0.3 on my SGS i9000 and everything works fine.
But than i found that when i open my sd card it is empty but not actually, because when i go to storage manager i see there is 1.8gb used cpace and 200mb free.
Anyone can help about this issue?

Your external SD card is located in /mnt/emmc, not in sdcard/external-sd.
when you are in your sdcard in your file manager (for example astro) go up one step (press back?) so you see all the mnt stuff
and emmc is there

Cyanogenmod 7 External Sd Card problem.

Hi all,
I have flash cyanogenmod 7 gingerbread relase from this Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940095&highlight=external
Everytings is perfectly working. But my 8Gb external sd card is not detected. Anyone face with this problem ?
Thanks and best regards,
I might be wrong but have you read the Faqs on the rom .
no SD card .
jje
Hmm you are right.
But cyanogen say;
"What about sdcards?
internal = sdcard, external = emmc
Only internal can be shared over usb at the moment."
I download QTADB for windows and i can transfer my Music folders to emmc folder in my phone. Start Power AMP and power amp rescan folder is not detect my emmc folder.
How can i solve this problem ?
Hi Again,
Finally i solve the problem. And everything in my ext sd card is back. Problem is emmc folder (means external sd card in cyanogenmod 7) not permitted for write and read.
I use QtADB Terminal for editing the directorys permition.
Step 1: type "su"
Step 2: go to root directory. If you type "ls" and can you see "emmc" you are right position.
Step 3: "chmod 777 emmc" or "$chmod 777 emmc" (for write and read permitted.)
Step 4: Reboot the phone and everythings are back in External Sd Card in EMMC
And Windows detect 2 Storage Drive now. One of 6GB Internal Sd Card, One of 8GB External Sd Card. And i can use my Music player Power AMP.
Everythings perfect for me now. Cyanogen is great ROM but this permision problem should bu fixed. Because i spend three day for solve this problem.
Regards,
Hi, I hate to open up an old thread, but does anyone know if this works with the newer nightly builds? I'm having what seems to be the exact same problem... Also, when I go to settings > storage, it doesn't register the card there, and the mount sd card option is blanked out. I'm guessing that that's cause of the emmc thing, but shouldn't it register the extra storage space in the settings somewhere? at the moment, it looks like 16gb has just disappeared...
Also, I'd liketo change these permissions from the phone, using terminal emulator, if that's possible... But your steps don't seem to work for that one.

I am not seeing that behavior at all. Are you sure it is not a problem with your SD card?

are you sure you flashed from a froyo 2.2 build. I flashed from 2.2.1 a while back when I first flashed CM7 and I had the same issues with my external SD, not sure if this is still a pre-req but all the instructions still say to flash from 2.2 when first going to CM7. see link below: I also had scrambled video when booting CM7 coming from 2.2.1 so that is another indication something is wrong, just make sure you follow the steps to a T and know that flashing from 2.2.1 froyo is not the same as flashing from 2.2 froyo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061946
anyways, this could also be an issue that you just aren't sure where to look coming from a samsung rom to CM7. To view your external in CM7 you have to open file manager (astro or whatever you use) hit the home button (file manager route), click the emmc folder and it should be your external SD card. In samsung roms it's in the external_sd folder off the internal SD card.
when I mount my drives via computer both drives come up and they are both read/write so not sure what the guy a couple posts up was talking about, could have been an early bug or something not sure, anyways works fine in the latest nightly so i'm happy
i'm having the same issue.
EMMC not seen by non root explorers
the only way to acces the emmc is by using a root explorer...
LE: found a fix:
External SD card will get mounted as /mnt/emmc. This may not be visible to all apps. If you desperately need the contents visible to apps only looking in /mnt/sdcard, create an empty directory there and remount the /mnt/emmc there as well:
Using either the terminal emulator or adb shell:
su
mkdir -p /mnt/sdcard/external_sd
mount /dev/block/vold/179:9 /mnt/sdcard/external_sd

Note: This is only a temporary fix for when needed. It will cause issues when you try to use USB sharing later. Write the following to get things back to normal:
umount /mnt/sdcard/external_sd

no /sdcard/external_sd
Just flashed to cyanogenmod7.1 found the same problem on my sgs2. ESFileExplorer shows the directory /sdcard/external_sd but it's empty (when I know it isn't).
If you go to settings > cyanogenmod settings > application the is a tick box "use internal storage"
Reboot, all files that were on the ext_sd are now mounted in /sdcard.
Haven't found a way of distinguishing which files are actually on the ext_sd and which are on the internal sd but they are all there.

Issue with file managers on the driod bionic

So far I have tried linda, astro, and root explorer.
When I try and click on the sd card it is showing me the 8gig partition share on the phone that is set up for app installs.
None of the file manager programs, besides the stock one on the phone, are properly showing the sd card.
Anyone else notice this?
Working fine for me. Root explorer included

The internal drive is 16GB
Once formatted to FAT, is gets reduced to just over 15GB
Then the OS is placed on the drive in a separate partition which takes up roughly about 4GB bringing that once 16GB drive down again to about 11GB
The remaining partition is partitioned once again to create an internal storage area similar to the SDCARD partition on the XOOM, as well an an application area where programs are pre-installed to.
That is why your internal storage area says only 8GB
The numbers I used are not exact but are rough estimates.
you just have to look around in it. both sd cards are there. its just not as simple as the stock one. my xoom is the same way.

This is exactly right. Is there a way to use any file managers then? They are all being fooled into thinking the internal storage is the sd card when it obviously isnt.
I have found no setting or way thus far to point the file manager apps to the actual sd card instead of the internal partition.
its a messed up sytem if they gave us more memory then it wouldnt b so bad.
not at the moment. either devoplers will have to modify there apps or a custom rom is needed to remap the memory.

I actually found a temporary solution to this.. If you are rooted of course since you need to be to do anything useful on this thing.
I used root explorer for this.
For whatever reason they decided to name the internal memory application partition, to sdcard... This is why the file manager apps are getting confused.
The real sdcard is named sdcard-ext...
So All I did was rename sdcard (which is the internal partition), then I renamed sdcard-ext to sdcard. The file manager programs then pointed towards the actual sdcard..
However, upon reboot the folders renamed themselves back to the way they were... Not sure why they are doing that but they are...
If the folders would stop renaming themselves back the above method would be a solution for this prob.
In addition to the above, I dont know if astro has this feature, but on linda you can create a shortcut to the card and place it as a shortcut directly to the folder.
Wish it was possible to get the source to these apps. Could likely edit it and point it towards the proper folder.
Root explorer will allow you to view everything. If your phone is rooted you could edit them with this app as well.

The SD Card is actually sd-ext in file managers sdcard is the internal

[Q] How to SD card?

Hello I am new to this site and new to android in general. First, some info on my phone.
_ Unlocked bootloader
-Rooted
-ICS 4.0.3
-32gb SanDisk Micro SDHC card with 2 primary partitions
I am having trouble moving anything to my SD card via the phone. When I go to the app menu and try to move an app I only get the option to "Move to Phone Storage." I have searched on google and everyone just makes mention to use a program like link2sd. I've tried using that, and even after creating symbiotic link the apps still only move to phone storage. The program says they are on SD card, but my SD card data usage says otherwise.
My phone does acknowledge the presence of an SD card in the Settings > Storage menu. I am unable to view the contents of the SD card on any of the file explorers either, when I click the SD card all I see are the contents of phone storage. I am able to view and open contents of the SD card by using root explorer under the sdcard2 directory. If I transfer music and photos to the SD card from my PC I can access them with the appropriate widgets on my phone.
So to simplify my post: Is there any way to move an app to the SD card with this device / ICS? The actual external SD card, not the internal phone storage.
Thank you.
I'm not 100% but... In wcx recovery... I think there is an option to switch internal/external storage...
Maybe someone has tried it?

I actually moved an app to ext.sd using root explorer it basically just copied it.the app I moved was app monster when I used the app it showed internal .when I selected scan sdcard it brought up everything from internal and external .
HTC vivid
Titanium Backup does this really well. You can do a batch operation to move all user apps to external SD.

[Q] No external sd card shortcut

Hello I have Samsung GT-I9000 and I'm familiar with the phone, more or less. Recently I've bought a used Samsung GT-I9000 for my wife and I noticed that in file manager the shortcut for the external sd card is missing, same is with Root Explorer. I can access the external sd card by accessing the folder /storage and everything works but there is no shortcut. This has not been a problem until recently I wanted to upload a file to my skydrive folder which by default browses the sd_card_0 folder and I could not reach the external sd card. Please if someone could help me how to create a shortcut/link to the external sd card in to the build in sd card. I have searched for similar problems and solutions but I could not find any. Thanks

Hi tihis a know bugs (if you have ICS or later )
Anyway the solution may be the same, use directory bind (serch this app in xda) and create your shotcut where you want (root are needed )
try mnt folder. or make sure sd card are properly inserted. Any rooted file explorer can access to sd.
To make it clearer, this is the problem on the phone - the pointed folder is missing!

I'm not allowed to post external links so please go to the quoted url.
EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm using the awsome Xylon 2.4.1 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 ROM for I9000
try to browse ur url but da img not available there
after http there is a blank field which needs to be replaced with ://
i ........ nevermind.
are u rooted?
to be sure, juz rooted da explorer by clicking setting in menu button, and redirect everything to /storage/sdcard1
ur sd and internal are quite there so whats da problem? all 4.2.2 version already in ext4 so da folder /external_sd doesnt been used anymore, its for GB, u can see it by going to properties of da /external_sd and see there will be no space available.
JB uses /storage at / to indicate da sdcard, its proper that way and easy to organise
at /storage, there will be 2 directories, /sdcard0 (indicates your internal and /sdcard1 (indicates your external sd)
as i see here, there is nothing wrong with ur pic and fone
edited: i use root explorer so its taking a while for me to download CMfilemanager (well, gonna change ROM after this so installing it not a bother to me)
da first 2 thumbnail is my root explorer, the other are da same file explorer as yours
see thumbnail:
To solve this problem I used SiMi Folder. see this link
I also found Smart Shortcuts, which I like even better. see this link

[Q] Applications to external sd

Hi, everyone.
I have a question if somebody is able to copy or move applications to external sd card either with rooted stock or custom rom. What applications or mods did you do to enable such option?

Im having the same problem as well. my Internal storage is half way getting there and None of the apps that I installed does not have the option to be transferred to ext_SD
Ok, after 2 days of searching over the web and forums I found a workaround for moving apps on external SD (working only on rooted phones).
1) Download and install FolderMount program from Google Play store.
2) Open the program, tap on "+", enter name (any alias), source folder of the app, and destination (external sd with the same folder already created or choose automatic method), then tap on check mark.
3) Wait till the program copies the application to external sd and creates link. After you need to tap on pin icon and it'll turn to green.
If you get some notification, just click "Yes".
P.S.
Don't delete the folder with the moved app in your internal memory, as it'll also delete the app from external SD. If you want to check if the program moved, unpin the program and browse to the app folder in your internal memory and you won't see the files there. FolderMount creates the link to the application in internal memory to trick Android. Every time Android requests the application, it passes the request to its internal memory and after goes via the link to external SD. That is the only trick that worked for me.
I read on the butterfly 901s/e forum thread and it said something about fat32
I have Kingston 64gb formated in FAT32, don't know if Android works properly with exFAT or ext format. You can't format 64gb SD card in FAT32 with Windows, but you can install other partition wizards like Minitool Partition Wizard to format it.
Does the old setinstalllocation trick work here?

If you mean "set pm install location" command, then no. I tried that trick, however programs didn't even install on internal memory after I used the command. I left it as default "0".

Thanks a lot. I think I can do everything I need to do with foldermount so it should all work out.
Also got a 70mbps read SD card! Phone comes in later today!

Yes, works with microSDXC up to 64gb in FAT32, couldn't manage to use external sd card in other formats like exFAT or NTFS.
