[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Boost - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I apologize if this post doesn't belong here, but please bear with me I am still a "newb" in the smartphone world. I recently managed ( using some online tutorials) to install a rooted version of android 2.3.6 on my SGS. For the first 3 weeks everything worked like a charm, my phone was smooth and everything, I was really satisfied with it. But lately it has been running really badly, it lags a lot, it takes a lot longer to load stuff, etc. I beg you guys to help me do something with it. I would really like to install a new firmware that allows me to overlock the processor and stuff like that ( like CyanogenMod), so can you guys please point in the direction of a good tutorial that even a moron like me can follow. I'm having a lot of trouble understanding what kernels I can use and what exactly the CyanogemMod Nightlys are or how I can install new firmware using Rom Manager or CWM. Thank you guys in advance and once again sorry if the post is in the wrong place.

rom
I had same problem with 2.3.5 .
I installed a few days ICS 4.0.4. from dark knight and it work nice
You can try it

Go for ICS
Hi,
I am on [ROM][ICS][I9000] Team ICSSGS RC4.2 for a few weeks now. It's blazing fast and stable. I was hesitating at first, but did it anyway and now i'm very happy with it. I also flashed the Semaphore kernel.
All is explainened in detail in their threads.

Hi,
since more then two weeks I'm using ICSSGS RC 4.2 with the semaphore kernel and I'm very happy with this rom. It's fast and doesn't lag at all.
With this kernel you can overclock the cpu by using the semaphore tool (is installes automatically when flashing the semaphore kernel in cwm.
You will find a threat how to install this rom, if you have some more question somebody will help you.

[Q] Which rom should i use?

What rom is best and most stable?
JVT stock rom with the semaphore kernel.
or wait for the F1 Innovation ROM Version 15 which is gonna be released tomorrow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058814
thanks for the reply ill wait for the f1 and see
ICS 4.0.3 rc2.1 onecosmic
ICS 4.0.3 rc2.1 onecosmic
love these rom
ICS from onecosmic ist really cool, but think about the problems.
Some Apps dont run with this rom. For me, there ist no connection with MyPhoneExplorer. Also problems with unsing external SD, because it is rooted to mnt/emmc.
After flashing GOA 6.0 and some other custom roms, i am at the moment on doctorz rom 13.1 with no FCs or any other problems. It ist smooth, all apps are running..for me the best rom at the moment.
First thing you should decide if you want a 2.3.x ROM or a 4.0.x release. Then you can decide which ROM is right for you.
Check the screenshots and see what you like the most. I can advice MintBerry which is very fast and good looking, but since it's not based on a Samsung ROM you're gonna miss the Samsung Apps (as far as you can miss them).
Stable - any stock ROM or Stock Rom based; you can speed it up by using a different kernel (try semaphore) and/or tweaks (Thunderbolt's). I don's advise any ICS based ROM: they are still a little away from what I call ''stable''.
As for best... well, it depends on what you think. My advice is to try several ones. Each user has it's thoughts on what they think it's ''best''.
i want 2.3.x because i know ics isnt that stable and alot of things dont work still..
currently im on jvq 2.3.4 flashed with odin ( i don't have cwm because i dont know if it will void my guarantee :/ )
and a user above suggested jvt but i also saw jvz and im wondering which is better ( both 2.3.6 )
I have tried lots of roms, I found galaxydroid 3.3 gave best battery life, but 5.0 lost it. I am currently using mitrerom, and this seems very stable, nice tweaks, boots very fast and thus far have no issues. I am avoiding any 4.0 rom, as they are still all in beta stages and can still have issues. Best thing to do, is see what you like and flash, flash and flash. You cant do any wrong if you read the tutorials and take your time, oh and dont touch the bootloader!!
Buttwad. Why not to post a link to that "mitrerom"? I can't find it anywhere.

it wont break stock jvz?
ANY kernel in Odin -passes as PDA.
JW1 with CWM-Kernel or SauRom ....
so stock jvz will work fine with semaphore 2.4?
bump :/ this is my last question

[Q] about ROM Slim ICS

There is full hebrew language in the rom?
Also, someone that already work with this rom can tell me please how the rom terms to speed, how the battery life is, there is bugs or stucks?
Thanks for helpers
There is only English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
It's a very fast ROM and I haven't experienced any bugs so far. If I don't use my phone much the battery lasts for about 3 days, otherwise about 2 days.

I have more questions:
1) If i will install the rom, what is it the best kernel to install with the rom?
2) There is expected to come out new version soon for the rom or should I install the correct version of the rom?

1) I use MNICS because the battery life is very good. If you want a really fast kernel I would suggest Semaphore.
2) I don't know when the new version is coming out. It's up to the developer. You can install the current version and install the new version when it comes out.
a very good rom,the snappiest i have seen so far.a very good battery life with glitch kernel even with OC to 1.2
Hi guys!
Was searching for some info about switching from DarkyRom to ICS. Found out the Slim ICS is the most suitable. Found this topic. I have a noob question. Installing Darky was always easy for me, but this one needs some preparations.
So: "Download a latest CM9 ROM, My latest Base and YOUR device essentials."
Where do I get the CM9 rom? It's new to me. I am on 2.3.6 DarkyRom 10.4.2 (2.3.6).

Here's where you can get the latest CM9:

Here's the thread for the CM9 nightlies.

CM9 is the ICS version of CyanogenMod. The update from Gingerbread to ICS is a bit more complicated than just jumping around between ICS ROMS, so it looks like Arvind is recommending you make the jump to CM (a big community project with lots of support) and then switch from there to his ROM.
Thanks, I figured it out, but I have a huuuge problem. My IMEI changed. It is something like 04999... I have no backups. Flashing Darky was sooo easy. I have a nice working Slim ICS but with no service... Crap, will try to revert to stock, but I feel it won't help...
Hi lads!
Reverted back to stock rom JVT and vuala, my imei is back! Did a full ODIN flash with repartition as explained in Totallydubbed's guide on his wesite...

[Q] Stable GM ROM? Opinions?

Hello,
I am looking for a stable GM Rom with everything working for a friends Galaxy Mini.
I will not be home for several months so he will not be able to modify smth as she doesn't know how to flash Roms etc.
Thanks in advance.
The Gxy Mini is on Stock 2.1. Anything special i should know before flashing?
I believe you first have to upgrade to Gingerbread before flashing custom roms. Also, install clockworkmod recovery via Odin before flashing custom roms.
That's about it really.
A pretty nice rom that sticks close to default is Chocobread. (Current emanom is too buggy right now, although v6 is in the making).
. Installed Stock 2.3.6 then Creed's Rev. 1.3. Interesting that the contacts didn't sync from 2.1. Then, (didn't checked on PC before) i found out that i have no phone contacts on the Google account although i synced them on the old 2.1 before wipe.
Creeds ROM feels laggy than stock 2.3.6 somtimes. I overclocked it to 710 mHz. Angry Birds Space doesn't load past the "Space birds" loading screen.
I told her to test it for a few days but i consider other options?
mebitek's cm7 rc 1 or kitten's cm7 base on mebitek's deodexed or MORe v3
i would recommend Stock ROM!

Best kernel for JW6 ?

Hi !
I use Semaphore 2.7.4 with JW6 and though it's good, it still lags and the screen freezes at times. I am in Thailand but use Australian firmware cause officially there is no 2.3.6 for SGS here.
Tried midnight and speedmod but they are not so good for my phone. Is there a Devil's kernel available for this Rom ?
Somebody please advise me !
Thanks !

There isn't Devil kernel for JW6, only for CyanogenMod 7 and CyanogenMod 9. I think you tried all of available kernels. You can also try CF-ROOT kernel (only root, without mods in kernel).
JW6 is one of the latest and best ROMs for our I9000, so I'm shocked that you are not happy with it. Lags? Freezes? When?
Maybe you have some bloatware that are slowin' down your phone?
If you want stable and fast ROM, flash stable CM7 and use it's stock kernel.
CM9 is also good, but latest nightlies have some random issues (eg. weird ringer, missing power widgets).
Maybe try MNGB by Mialwe. It's my favourite, because it has many features and is responsive and fast. I never had lags with the kernel and it is made for JW4/5/6!

[Q] GT-i9000 Most "samsung" ICS rom?

Hello dear XDA fellows.
I know questions like these are not very popular but I am on very short time to research and experiment. Also, not familiar with Galaxy S i9000 rom scene at all.
I need a rom for this phone, which will be used by a complete newbie to android/smartphones/touchscreens, so I cant expect them to know anything about tweaks or launchers.
I need a rom that is stable, looks most stock/Touchwiz (and/or feature rich) and preferably ICS. Preferably a port of SGS2 ICS or even modified SGS GB builds are fine.
Phone is currently running some CM9 ics build and is rooted. Thank you all for your recommendations
If you want GB try stock jw8 + semaphore kernel.
You can find the latest stock roms in ramads thread. Search it in the general section. You can find there all the instructions on how to flash with odin.
Cheers,
