Hej, i use more than one Android and on other, search is at left & menu at right, it always make me confuse so i wonder : Is there a way to invert them? Other question : When we'll use ICS on the Note, will there be choice to have either capacitive, virtual button, or both? Or will still have to use capacitive?
No man there is no way of inverting the buttons. What you ask requires some extreme code editing in kernal side which might even brick your device.Officaial ICS release date is not specified till now by samsung. You can check custom roms and leaked ICS if you want to try it.What do you mean by virtual buttons? All the buttons below the screen are capacitive touch buttons except the physical home button
What i meant by virtual button is just buttons in screen like on galaxt nexus.

It is very easy to do, in a similar way to how I remapped hardware keys. See here:

In ICS THE WILL BE A CHOICE REGARDING CAPACITIVE OR VIRTUAL BUTTONS AT LEAST THROUGH A HACK AS E ALREADY HAVE THAT CHOICE ON THE BETAS.

Hey guys!
I recently began to use Roms which is based on stock again, and one of the feautures i miss the most from cm7/miui is the ability to force-close an app with a long press on the back key.
Does anyone know of a MOD or something that can enable this feature on stock roms?
Or can point me in the right direction or something?
Would be awesome to have it on stock roms!!

FC appears when an app is stucked, at least this is happening to me. If I keep pressed back button, it will display a dialog.

On stock roms you can view the running programs through the inbuilt program monitor and close them .

Yes, but this isn't the same, nor as easy.
I'd hope for this feature too, as I'm about to go from a Droid 2 with CM7 to a Droid 4 ... root will give me most of the things I want, except this.
In galaxy s2 you can use jk deluxe settings (search it) to use this function on stock (need root) rom
Settings>Developer options
First activate them at the top, then head to the bottom of the list, the entry furthest down is the one you want.
This should work for any ROM with dev options available, which frankly I think is everyone...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Its a ROM specific function and as far as I know there is not any mods available sadly

I saw that in some roms on various devices like Galaxy Mini, and I would like to ask you are there any way to have it on MiniCM9?
What's the point? You already have buttons and they will only take up screen space. It will just make the screen look smaller.
Dunno why, but i like them. Plus I tried them on my friend's galaxy mini and they looked cool and they would be pretty useful for me because my hardware buttons were crappy.
It is impossible to actually add new software buttons to the phone but this app might do thhe trick for ya https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey
Thank me if i helped

That is because the hardware is compatible and the screen to. Our screen is just not abld to do that (correct me if im wrong)

It is possible. Its like a software or app. Any phone could have this with ICS even like hmm. hTC Tattoo. The screen does need something special to have them

Our hardware is not capable but the Galaxy MINI's hardware is capable? Its strange if its true... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe1oesBIDm4&feature=related
I think its totally useless because of our phones screen size. Thoose buttons would took too much space. If your hardware buttons are broken use Button savior from market.
They would look cool, but they're pretty useless for our device!
OK I have a modded Verizon galaxy nexus with 4.0.4,in tab mode. Every thing is customized ,except one thing....with that said, I bring you to my question. Can you make a call button for the navigation menu,. My reason for that is there are two menus one on screen and the other on the navigation bar.a standard call button on that bar would make more space thus elements the on screen menu bar altogether. CAN U DO IT. send answers to [email protected] thanks.

Well Until some time in the past there had not been much user friendly method to mod your device button to do what you wanted to.
But then an app was developed called 'ButtonRemapper' which basically does what you wanted. So wait is over!
Here is the thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
Note: Remember, be responsible for what you do. modding wrong buttons will end up your phone to pot

So I have to use that. That's all I wanted to know, just thought it would be more efficient to use the one that was already there if possible.
Whats the big deal with the pie control? Its almost useless , you can use your button to navigate, sliding on the edge of the screen and using it almost same with the existing physical button is making your life too complicated

What about phones which do not have physical buttons?
A couple of days ago I asked in the Q&A forum if it was possible to disable your physical back home and menu buttons and enable the on screen buttons like on the nexus 4. A guy named: UncleRipper helped me by telling me how to do it, so I want to share it with you guys. But all props to UncleRipper! For an example of how it looks on my phone see the photo below.
So what we want to do is enable the on screen buttons, disable the physical buttons, and stop them from lighting up everytime you touch the screen. I know you can disable this in the settings if you're on lg's software, but I am running cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly.
So first enable the on screen buttons:
open a file manager with root ( Solid Explorer or Root Explorer), go to /system and open build.prop (backup it!!)
add this line at the end of the file build.prop:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
restart your phone.
Now you got the on screen buttons, you want to disable the physical buttons:
Use "button remapper" (search it on google cause isn't on play store) and assign "focus" to home, back and menu buttons.
The app is simple to use and the values to change are last in the list.
After the physical buttons are disabled you want to stop them from lighting up when you touch the sceen:
Prerequisites:
Root
SManager (play store)
SManager widget (play store)
Your phone
this script: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iz6t5eql0w...tkeyscript.zip
First install the app SManager and accept the SU request.
Use a root file browser and move the script from the SD Card your system/etc/init.d folder
Go into SManager and locate the 2 scripts. Click on them and tap the little star button in the top left to make them a favorite. And click the little SU icon while your at it! (optional: click also on run on boot the gear near "su" command)
Add the widget to your home screen, run the script and turn off the display and then turn it back on.
If the physical buttons wernt visible id do this. But i find LMT launcher works great for when a can be bothered doing hand gymnastics to push the back button.

Yep, if the physical buttons went off, it would be good. Could You make it working? ;D
The physical buttons are disabled and they don't light up anymore, so you can't really see them anymore unless you take a really hard look. But hey, it's your choice rather to use it or not! I'm just saying it's possible ;D

I seem to be having trouble with button remapper. The only option that I'm getting is for the power button and can't seem to access the home, menu, and back keys for some reason. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Open /system/usr/keylayout/touch_dev.kl and remove/comment three lines from the almost end of the file (those with VIRTUAL word). Works, at least on PAC 23.0/CM10.1, not sure if in stock rom will also work. Then use the script from OP to disable lights (I'll try to find simplier way to do it all).
And of course add this:
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
at the end of /system/build.prop
+1 thank you I got it all working now.
