[Q] Best Custom ROM for Thrill - LG Thrill 4G

Hi,
Which is best custom ROM for LG Thrill 4G based on froyo?

i think cyanogenmod nightly build is the best though it lacks 3D function.

Dark lestats kitchen rom is the best it takes a little work if you haven't flashed a gingerbread baseband but its well worth it

this threads are useless, different custom rom are better for different users depending of the necessities of each one. Search and find the answer by yourself. Thread closed.

[Q] which rom is the best? im running eclair currently.

which rom is the most stable and fast? and link on how to install it.
*facepalm*
Start by reading the forums.. Secondly, start by upgrading your stock firmware to a late XW or XX. Go to samfirmware.com, they have everything you need
Eclair???
Then update to gingerbread and you should have a bog difference which maybe makes you happy.
If not there is no best ROM just search on the development section there are also guides for each ROM

With respect it is a personal thing and moderators invariably shut these threads due to the grief they cause, it is a matter of thorough research and experimentation that will get you too the best rom for you

I liked Juwe's 4.3.1, he just released 5.0, but I didn't test it cause I'm running CM7. But if 5.0 as good as or even better then 4.3.1 then just try it. Fast - good - beatiful and in my opinion (one of) the best Samsung-based ROMs.

for me HaWkiSH Premium 2™ is very stable , fast and beatiful.

[Q] Looking for a stable firmware + root + unlock

Hi I am still very new to the Android world, but I need some guidance from the experts here.
I have a glitchy Sam Galaxy S that I would like to install a new firmware with root and unlock. I have installed firmwares before so I am ok with that.
It doesnt need to be the newest firmware just something that is reliable. There is so many different firmwares out there, its confusing.
The phone will be used in Canada on Fido.
Thanks for your help!
Try this first..so you can root it and put a custom recovery on the fly...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Then check the development section for the i9000 and choose any roms...JVR's or JVS's
The ROM is a matter of taste...I have tested 5 different ROMs on the last 3 days...and I'm still waiting for one that will make me comfortable to use on a daily basis...
Have fun....
Couldn't you have just read the answers to one of the thousands of almost identical questions already posted in this forum?
In the end, all you can do is read the actual ROM threads, choose a few that sound good, and try them out. The only opinion that matters is yours, stop asking someone to think for you.

I tried several roms, btw i found excellent for daily use the MIUI rom. Fast, stable and easy to use. Someone says that is too close to iphone style, but you can change theme with one click to make it different.

I've tried many gingerbread custom roms and stock odexed as well as deodexed roms. The most stable roms would be those of froyo 2.2.1, for example, ZSJPK. Froyo roms are smoother because they have more ram, and you can root it using superoneclick. However, I'm using gingerbread stock JVR because of the wider range of theming options

New to Optimus x2, Some questions

Hello!
I have just bought my new LG Optimus 2x, and I have some quesitons.
With this phone i have shifted from symbian to android and i have some questions.
Firtsly, (not sure if this is legal to discuss here) do cracked apps exist? Is there something like jailbreaking on iOS?
Secondly, I have seen a lot of talk about rooting. What does rooting actually do?
Thirdly, I have checked the CM7 topic but it is just so big, and the last opdate on the first post is very outdated. Can you explain where to find the newest updates for 2.3 version of CM7 and how to mod my ROM?
And lastly, which launcher do you suggest to replace the stock LG one.
Thanks!
Rooting is jailbreak equivalent, getting "root" admin access.
Apps, well you just search for .apk files on the usual sites, filestube etc.
Cm7 I don't think is the best option at the moment, but I'll let someone else cover that.
Goodluck with your new phone.

Rooting gives you access to admin account so no need to jailbreak something lol, more simple.
Same for apps, Market is full if apps and most if the time you have free ones that will suit your needs.
At the moment you have to choose between CM7 and the leaked GB (like the one I run).
CM7 is still in RC stage but is usable clearly in daily use, leaked GB roms have still some bugs but very active dev are working in it and performance is great !
Not very hard and long to go from one to another BTW... Help yourself and hop in the train!
For speed and clean android-software I would recomend CM7 (android 2.3.7). If you would like LG Software built on android, like stock, there is some leaked customized Roms to install (android 2.3.4)
CM7(CyanogenMod7) : http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
You'll know how to navigate to download of CM7 for Optimus2x when you click on link
As for how to root and flash (install) it, you'll find the answere in the forum if you just search a little.
good luck with your new phone, and welcome to Android comunity
I am running cm7 after being on miui for months and I really cannot fault it so much faster!

Thanks for your replies.
leaked GB

I am guessing that means the same as SimDroid said "stock LG"
So, what advantage does stock LG firmware have? If its 2.3.4 it's older. Is it better optimised for optimus 2x?
I have checked the developer subforum for 2x but haven't been able to find any usefull information on the leaked roms.
Could you help me with that?
Cheers!

The gingerbread rom we're all using at the moment is the 2.3.4 gingerbread rom, but there are multiple variations and community edits of it.
I'm guessing your phone is on 2.2.2 at the moment, which is a pretty horrible release.
Anyway go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1002 and pick one. I'm currently using Topogigi 1.9 which is the fastest ROM i've tried, no errors that I know of, fast boot time too.
You need to flash baseband and kernel also, see:
Baseband
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008070 for how to flash
And http://adf.ly/2SKAm for the rom to flash.
Kernel

The advantage of stock = leak GB is that every feature of the phone is working. With Topogigi ROM you have many bugs that have been corrected, and a custom kernel with many tweaks in the system that makes this MOD extremley fast, and very good. The remodded 2.3.4 GB firmware are very different from the original leak.
On the contrary, as it is a leak version, there isn't any official source available, so it's often hard for dev to fix things. And it's not opensource.
CM7 is opensource at 100%, based on Google android sources plus all the dev work. Recently a big improvement was made as Aramcee (the dev leader of O2X CM7 branch) managed to make A2DP work, so now you can have Bluetooth headsets working in CM7, which was not possible before.
Still no Radio FM app in CM7 as radio stack sources are not available, and HDMI mirroring works only at 720p and not 1080. The differences between 2.3.4 and 2.3.7 are not major,in Android versioning the third number means minor improvements most of the time not noticable by user.
Both enable overclocking/undervolting if that's interest you. They are both very smooth and snappy. In CM7 there is a very good support for HID (keyboard, mouses and so on) via Bluetooth. Not in stock GB (no sources).
CM7 was a bit instable those past few days but it should be corrected. Every night you have a new build, but you don't need to reflash every day as there are not at each time new things for Optimus 2X. Upggrading is trivial as it doesn't wipe your data, takes a couple of minutes.
For custom stock ROM, updates are more irregular, but very frequent too.
So no real objective differences between those two families of ROM. If you need HDMI and FM Radio you have no choice.
Okay,
Thanks a lot for your answers and your time!
One last thing:
Lg launcher
Launcher pro
ADW.launcher
slidescreen
go launcher EX
Which one?

Try them out and see which one you like the best. Personally I'm partial to Launcher Pro.

I would go for Go Launcher or Launcher pro. Both fast. ADW for me has been known to be laggy at my end.

Not the right forum for this question.
In my opinion, however, rooting will not really improve the speed of the phone. A fresh install of android (rooted or otherwise) will afford performance boosts simply because its less cluttered with apps and whatnot.
That being said, there are tons of great roms out right now. If the phone is on gingerbread bootloaders, you may want to try some older GB roms that have been highly tuned for the captivate. Ice cream sandwich roms are pretty good as well right now, though as many OPs have said, simply installing the latest OS does not magically give your phone a second core and double its RAM.
tl;dnr: Look a few pages back for a gingerbread rom and follow the instructions for the most stable and fast option. If you want to try to ICS, I think its pretty good at the moment. Never had any speed issues on my captivate and I use AOKP Build 26 currently.
Here, I'll just cut straight to the point for you
1. Cyanogenmod 9 - If you want a (somewhat) clean ICS look along with decent stability and speed.
2. Doc's ICS Rom v5 - If you want the samsung touchwiz interface.
Take your pick. Those are the best roms out there imo. Or you could always try MIUI.us
Get Serendipity 7! Best battery life I've ever had, fast and amazingly stable. Not the best GUI when compared to roms like MIUI, but it's a good solid ROM.
You could also get MIUI, but it's not quite as stable and it's a bit slower. I just like it cause the themes are awesome and I'm a customization freak.

Try MIUI.

99% of roms do not come in an odin one click
read the Q&A sticky " How to install custom captivate roms from stock " (also in my sig)
I wrote it. its super easy to follow to install ANY rom.
Normally "best rom" threads are shutdown, there is no best, only opinion, BUT.. "best for your wife", I get the point! LOL
2.2 based rom - firefly 3.0 rom with onix kernel flashed after - hands down best way to go for useability and battery.
Gingerbread 2.3 based roms - there are quite a few to choose from, from stock feeling to many added features. pick one built on KK4
ICE CREAM SANDWICH roms
CM roms are packed with features but has a long list of bugs. probably not the best choice for your wife. *CM7 is gingerbread base CM9 is ICS based
AOSP is google stock. - pretty nice and stable
AOKP is stock plus new features. - really nice and stable *with glitch kernel added after and nstools installed. - what i run! PM me if you want a link to this rom prebuilt with glitch kernel and a few added extras for easier install.
Dude, please read. It isn't that hard. If 11 and 10 year olds are doing this every day, then you should be able to do this no sweat. If you read the only OneClicks you will see are SauROM and stock ROM's. Others have to be flashing using Odin or CWM recovery. If you don't know what that is then you need to search and read some more... Sorry but this is how everyone learns, at least it used to be until people just came in here expecting things to be handed to them. And that is why XDA dev's are leaving and keeping their work to themselves...
stock? really?
I'd disagree with stock ROM being the best. After fixing so many GB KK4 bugs...
And if you run any of my ROMs you WILL have better performance, because all PNGs are reduced to 256 colors. And JPGs, mp3s and oggs are processed too. Then repacked with KZip. Jars repacked with Kzip too. Overall smaller and faster system.
I share it only from my good heart, and since it is really based on other people work. Enjoy peeps!
And I can process Apex GB if there is interest...
Thank you so much for your answer. I will do some reading.
Thanks again friend.
AJ
My ROM, mosaic, has an Odin flashable version, not a one click but its only like 1 more step to load the .tar into the pda slot into Odin.
I agree you should read up and know what you're doing. Just throwing that out there...
If you choose an ICS based ROM you should be aware of this issue forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447303. It seems to be randomly effecting captivate phones. I'm not saying this will happen but if it does you will have two options:
1) Face a steep learning curve (that installing a custom ROM seem trivial) and still only have partial phone functionality due to no internal SD card.
2) Just upgrade to a new phone if able & willing.
I think the latest ICS ROMS are not very prone to that issue. I'd go with Doc's Master ICS v6, tons of functionality out of the box and customizable if you're so inclined.

Doc's V6 is based on AOKP 4.0.3; I was using Dark Night 3 which is based on AOKP 4.0.4 when I had this problem. Therefore, I was actually using a more recent ROM than the one you are recommending. There are plenty of people out there using ICS without any problems and it may work great for the OP; I just think it should be an informed decision.
For my wife's phone I keep kk4 roms on it, they are all good.

I would have to agree with the statement that there is no best. Everyone has a different expectation for what a rom should do and be. With that being said I will offer my opinion on a starting point for your wife. SimplyStockV2.0 is what I'm currently running. I've used several others and so far this is my favorite. As you can see from the name it is very similar to stock minus all the junk that never needed to be there and a custom settings option within the regular settings. Battery life is good and it has run faster than a couple other roms I've used that claimed to be "fast". Good luck.

[Q] 2.3.4 VS CM7.1 (P990 and stock download advice)

Okay really nooby questions here but what the hey lol;
What are the advantages of CM7.1 over 2.3.4 and are there any areas that do not work in CM7.1 properly (read a few posts about things not working and heard the cam is poop on CM7.1?)?
I have never used CM before and always stuck with stock but seeing as i'm stuck on 2.2.2 at the moment as LG update tool will not install on my pc at the mo i'm looking into alternatives.
Also in case i end up needing to return to stock, can someone please point me in the direction of where i can find the latest stock roms for the optimus 2x p990?
