Hello. I have recently flashed my phone with darky's. I got very disappointed mainly because of battery drainage and I switched to Doc's Custom Cooked ROM from romkitchen.org
My MAIN problem with Galaxy S is that after about 15 reboots (NO MATTER WHAT ROM I USE) I get the force close loop and everything goes straight to hell. All my apps are invalidated and nothing works anymore. I am tired of flashing and reflashing my phone. I just want to USE IT, NOT WASTE TIME FIXING IT!
I kindly ask for a solution on this forum. I would also like to say that I have applied the "/system corruption problem" but this didn't work at all.
I am eagerly waiting for an answer. Currently there are 2 sollutions:
1 - Solve this damn problem
2 - Throw SGS to trash can and buy an iPhone
Please help!
Just flash with the stock v2.2.1. Use your phone...
If you go with a custom rom, you gotta expect issues.

To be honest with you, it might just be your phone...I've flashed countless times and not had a bootloop in months. Try doing a factory reset and start from scratch from either Darky or Doc's ROM

+1 to that.
If you really want a custom rom with good battery... I'd recommend a clean 2.2.1 JPY flash and then Darky's 8.0/8.1 . The battery life is much better in those versions. I get ~1%/hr drain at night with Darky 8.1 vs ~3% with 9.2
I have recently tried Insanity 0.6.1 and find it very good. It actually doesn't have all that bloatware from Samsung and therefore it has more stability! I have been using it for a day. Given ~ 20 restarts and no problems. I hope everything is going to be allright. I'll report back in a couple of days or as soon as it gets problems.
Darky Q&A
It seems that a pinned Q&A for Darky is missing here.
I have been using Darky 8.1 and just recently decided to give 9.3 a try. One of the things I have liked about Darky is that that the version of 2.2.1 on it supports bluetooth voice dial. I have a BlueAnt S4 in my car, and although it does not voice dial 100% perfectly, it's still worth using. (the rest of the 2.2.1 roms I have tried that do not support bluetooth handsfree)
Okay, here is my question: on Darky 8.1, going to Settings - Display - Wallpaper -Lock screen wallpaper - Gallery ... would result in->
Sorry!
The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
[Force close]
I seem to remember the initial update to 9.0 (or 9.1) listed that this was fixed. I just got 9.3 running last night, and this still results in a force close. Does Darky have a forum to post this kind of thing, where the developers might see it?

Okay, Swype just expired.

Same problem here, also on Darky 9.3 extreme cappy. I've tried reflashing the captivate swype file, restoring a previous back up, and installing the newest beta. No dice on all 3 accounts.
This doesn't seem to be a problem with just Darky though, and poking around the site it doesn't look like it is exclusive to the Captivate either.
Darky's 9.3 phone not receiving calls
Once again I would have posted in Darky thread in android development if I could..
Ever since I have installed Darky's my phone has had problems receiving calls and will often say "simcard removed from phone please reboot". Today I got a new simcard because I thought that may be the problem but I tested and it still doesn't work. My friend rung me and as the call comes through my phone loses service and the call gets cut instantly and slightly later it'll pop up saying simcard removed please reboot phone. Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe it's time to go to Cyanogen Mod..
Did you ever restore data with Titanium Backup after you installed Darky's?
Yup I restored everything that was on my old rom Cognition
That's your problem. I used to have the same problem. Your phone settings is different between the two ROMs. You should typically ONLY restore app data. Not the system data.
Try going into back into TiBu, then find 'Phone' and click on 'Wipe data'. Hopefully that'll make your calls work again. If not, you might need to reflash Darky's.
System data backups really don't work well between different ROMs (and even different versions of the same ROM).
P.S. Nice to meet another NZer btw.
Oh I see, yeah that makes sense, I asked a friend if I should restore everything I backed up and he wasn't sure so I just restored them all anyway. Now I'm not sure if I should reflash Darky's or move to Cyanogen Mod.
I would try the 'Wipe data' thing first before I try any flashing though!
Upgrade from 9.2 to 9.3 help
In the dev thread, it says you should flash a captivate kernal and modem before installing 9.3. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a guide to flashing modems/kernals.
Just kinda worried cause I have read so much about people bricking their phones when putting the wrong kernal/modem combo together. I noticed on the Darky app it has options already there, so do I have to downlad the kernal seperately, or did it come with the app, or does the app download it from somewhere?
I am afraid that if I flash the modem first, then reboot it won't match the kernal and I will get stuck.
Thanks!

You can flash a Modem in Recovery just like you Flash a ROM or Kernel. If you happen to Flash a wrong Modem it won't cause any problems other than you won't get Cell Service. I am presently using the New znkp1 modem and it doing Great on my Cappy with 9.3 Darky and SuckerPunch/Voodoo Kernel.

Just letting you know that in the Darky Rom Configurator App, if u enable LockScreen Wallpaper, it would use Samsung Gallery which has a battery draining bug. Hence it is an option in the Darky app before flashing.
If you really want to use it, enable it and then flash. Or I'll just work on disabling that menu option.

Don't know if I'm too late on this but...the modem/kernel combo included has been working good for me; no need to change it. Like rickysa2000 said, don't select a modem/kernel using Darky's Configurator when you flash 9.3.
My only SMALL issue has been when going into APPS and sometimes they won't scroll for maybe two/three seconds.
But it's still my favorite ROM so far (though it's only my fourth). Especially impressed with the dev's attitude and willingness to help!!!

I was just in the i9000 forum and Darkyy said he will have a flashable rom on friday!!! I hope we can get this ported for the Cappy.

If its on i9000 it will be on captivate within a day lol
this problem is found since i flashed ics rom
i used to be rocket rom user, everything works great with r rom v22
then i started to use ics, also started to face the problem
the first ics rom i flashed is midtone2.0, everything is fine but the tethering
when data is in use, the tethering will turn off automatically and immediatly each time i turn it on.
however, when i turn off data...tethering runs normally, but it s useless as no network function...
then i reinstall the rom, but nothing changes
few days after i flashed the team rokcket rom, thought i could solve this issue
however it is still the same
then i restored the rocket rom, then the tethering works fine again with data in use
i repeated flashing ics and restoring and wiping and blah blah blah...nothing takes effect
team rocket rom: same problem
midtone2.0 :same problem
chain fire ics repack: same problem
i've go through a lot of threads but didnt find a solution...anyone got an idea?
sorry for my poor eng

All the ROMs u have tried with is based on Chinese leak i9220. So still the ROM is in Beta Stage and need to fix lot of bugs in it. you should wait for proper N7000 leak which is going to be out in next few days.
yes...but just feel so strange as it seems like i'm the only one facing this issue...
i 'll will try other ics leak from other countries then, hope it helps

I love my Note it is the best android device around (trust me), I am sorry yours started to lag but then again if you start to install lots of programs and random apps it will do this (just a guess you might have unlucky).
I have tried most of the ROMs manly for testing for my linuxonandroid project, and tbh found stock to be the best for me I just love the Spen features (Although stunner in tablet UI is just well stunning).
Correctly I am on the German ICS with root via mobile odin pros everoot and I love it but it will be nice once the bricking issues are sorted for sure.
I recommend a clean install and not using titanium or any other app to restore apps, just re download those you need and I have never had any lag
I have my Note from 1 week now, and i flash a couple of romĀ“s like Criskelo Rom, Kingdroid Right now im running Stock ICS Rooted and no lag at all maybe you do something wrong
Yeah, I love my Note as well and it is fast. I am on the official ICS German (LPY) build and rooted and love it, no problems found so far for me. I used to be on Stunner version .19 and it was one of the best custom ROMs I have ever run.

If you still have problems flash stock kk9 which is a very good stock base (well has been for me ) via PC Odin root it nd then do factory reset ect then unless you have some crap hidden from ics leak you should be running a nice clean rom
Also try wiping (format) everything in mounts and storage then flash stock via Odin and root that is the way I do it when want a really fresh install lol

I love my Note. I have had it for 3 months now and have tried nearly ever rom out there. Just due to interest. I find the Stock Roms the best also. GB Roms are very fast. But I love ICS too much. I got used to ICS on my Galaxy S2 before I upgraded. So once I got my Note I quickly jumped to ICS as soon as it was available. I was not a fan of the Chinese Leak. So I went back to GB for a while. But I have been running LPY for the past week and loved having ICS back. I have just updated to LPF Stock and so far very impressed. Its very quick n smooth :-D

Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.

Btw I used Odin 3.1 and clockwork to root and Flashed ROM with Cm 10.1 stable.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread

download ICS rom ( i suggest this one )

install it via recovery
if you want to upgrade to JB
go to development section , chose any custom rom you want

I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?

Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix

Ok, so I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.0 running! so far so good
Good job. Now you can flash a zip in cwm.

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?
