Official AT&T ICS Upgrades??!?! - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

So this morning there was a thread on androidcentral that the official ICS upgrade for the vivid was being pushed out. I got the OTA update, 3.26.502.56, and copied it to my sdcard......but I have no idea what to do with it. If this is not different from the leak floating around feel free to delete this thread

Where did it save it to cause I got it and want to save it before I upgrade.

Yeah, maybe try reading or searching. This topic belongs in General, blah blah blah.
Anyway, there's a thread with instructions, but since I'm operating under the presumption that you're not going to follow it, download this RUU, run it, and follow the directions it gives you.
Link.
I doubt you've unlocked your bootloader either, by the sound of it, so I'm not going to tell you to "fastboot oem lock".

I am rooted and unlocked. I know how to perform the update but I copied it to my sdcard so that it could be used for dev purposes. FYI i tried to perform the update and it gave me an error, probly because I am rooted and unlocked

I have absolutely no idea what you're on about.
So you downloaded VIVID_ICS_OTA_ROOT.zip or whatever and you tried to CWM it?
The instructions from where you downloaded it from should have either given you a PH39100.zip to update your HBOOT before you reflash recovery and then the ICS zip. You MUST lock your bootloader before you use the PH39100 update zip.
If you have only a PH39100.zip image, you MUST LOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER, otherwise it will not work. Again, it should have been very clear from wherever you got the zip from.
What sort of crap site didn't tell you these things?
EDIT: Did you get this from ATT Software Update? That's probably the worst way to get this update. I'm also pretty sure you need to relock for that too.

I dont think ure understanding what I am saying, I am not referring to the leak, this is the official OTA ICS update from AT&T. I know that I need to relock to install, I dont want to do that because I dont want to lose root. I'm posting so that devs can root and do whatever else with this.

No, he was just wondering if it is the same one that is one here. because the ones we have been using are leaks. There have been rumors that some are sense 4.0 instead of 3.6

There was no leak... The RUU is the official HTC RUU for the ICS update.
The "leak" you speak of was made from an OTA update pushed to one of the first recipients of the Vivid's ICS. Versions .52, .54 and .56 are all essentially identical.

Build EPF21B to Froyo

Does anyone know how i can get froyo on my phone with the EPF21B build? Could i change to the ERE27 build WITHOUT rooting my phone? Or flash pauls version through the stock recovery image, without voiding my warranty? Thanks for any help
same problem.
my phone is EPE54B
HELP!!!
Gotta root until Google sort it out I'm afraid.
I have ERE36B with locked bootloader. Can I just update or do I need another update file?
You're on an awkward build... I very much doubt there will be an upgrade path for you.
You will most likely need to flash a mainstream PASSIMG.ZIP (AT&T EPE54B or Vodafone EPF21B) and update from that when Google release one.

Edit: Actually, maybe you should listen to him. After clarification it seems that there were un-original roms out in the wild that didn't need an unlocked bootloader. If you updated to that ROM yourself, even without unlocking then you may not see an upgrade at all.
Old post below for continuity's sake.
--------
Don't listen to him. It seems he is telling you that you will need to unlock to upgrade. If you aren't going to unlock yet, just wait, there will be an OTA update for you too, you just have to wait for Google to send it out.
Google will not force you to unlock your phone.
Is there a way to go back to ere27 so i can update now, without unocking?
Dont mind if i have to do a factory reset or something like that

EPF21B is the official euro shipping ROM.
You can't change it back to ERE27 without unlocking the phone, period.
If you don't want to unlock, you'll have to wait until Google issues the OTA for the official euro phones.

Thanks for that completely incorrect post.
I am not telling you to unlock, both can be flashed in the same way you flashed ERE36B as they are official released images.
As ERE36B is a release that shouldn't be out in the field, I doubt an update will be made for it.
So, since I am not on Vodafone or AT&T, what should I update to? AT&T EPE54B or Vodafone EPF21B?
There has to be a way to restore the phone to factory state and factory ROM?

Sorry about that, it seemed to me that you were telling him he would never get an update without unlocking. But he did mention that he was still locked and had that release. I don't know how he got that one, but if he is truly locked wouldn't it make sense that Google knows of the phones out there with that version?
I still don't think it would make sense for Google to not give those phones an update, and to force them to unlock to upgrade.
Am I missing something important here that's really messing up my understanding?

Except that the factory ROM is different from one to another.
Tmobile factory ROM : ERD79 (which can then be updated to ERE27).
ATT factory ROM : not sure but the one before EPE54B
Europe factory ROM : EPF21B.

I think so.
There are certain ROMs that were leaked, these can be installed without unlocking the bootloader as they are release signed. No phone sent out by Google came with ERE36B, you had to install it yourself. There is also no way back to stock ERE27 without unlocking the bootloader.
My reckoning is that as this particluar ROM isn't meant to be in use by the public an upgrade path is unlikely, hence the advice to flash to a 'legitimate' release image (no unlock necessary) which will definitely be upgradable.

Thanks for explaining. I'll go edit my original post.
Thanks Rusty. What rom should i update to then? Is there another rom i can downgrade from, or is it generally impossible to go to an older rom with locked bootloader?
Can't go older unfortunately, else it would be a no-brainer.
As for which one, I doubt it matters, but I would expect EPE54B to be the next updated.

Doesn't work, cancels installation when it doesn't find the right signature.
yeh, tried that, Wont work with locked bootloader. Tried all ERE27 images, renamed to either passimg.zip or update.zip, and same for all frf50.. Only one thing left to do i guess, and that is wait.
Having the Same Problem,
Hi, I have a Nexus One from Vodafone, and have unlocked it, however, I still can't get it to update to Froyo FRF50 so I can then further upgrade it, I am currently on build EPF21B which I think Vodafone have mucked around with, because I have just updated a Friends Nexus Manually with the same file not problems, mine keeps coming up with, first:
Froyo+E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Then fails on this:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
Can any of you kind people out there confirm that there is something slightly odd about the stock Vodafone ROM,
Thanks for your time in this matter, I assure you that it is deeply appreciated
Kind Regards - Ashe

[Q] Stock image / rom

Well, I've been trying to use some custom roms and after all I restored the backup I made before, everything fine.
Today I wanted to try to use a custom rom again but it wouldn't work so I decided to wait for the official ICS release for the IncS. And here we get to my problem: When I restore the backup, and manually flash the boot.img (have to do this manually, got S-ON) and I boot my phone it gets to the HTC bootscreen, reboots and automatically gets to the CWM recovery.
Can anyone provide me an original boot.img (I haven't found it yet) or the whole standard android rom? If you have another solution, I would like to hear it!

You can find the latest OTA in the Android Dev section. If you would use the search function ( yeah we really have a "search" function.. ) you would easily find it. If you want your boot.img we do need what for a Rom from which carrier you got.

I have just been reviewing your posts and you posted that you applied the OTA and received HBOOT 2.01.0001, correct?
Then the RUU/ROM you need is the 3.11.405.2 version.
You also stated that you were able to unlock HBOOT 2.01.0001 using the HTCDEV.com site, correct? Which custom recovery did you install after that?

No, you run the exe on a PC and follow the directions on the screens. The program will tell you when to connect your phone to the PC using the USB cable.
This will completely wipe your phone and reload the ROM. Your HBOOT screen will probably show RELOCKED and you will need to unlock it again. Please confirm.

[Q] Install AT&T OTA Update with unlocked bootloader?

So I'm wanting to install the OTA ICS update but it fails and I get the little red exclamation point when I try.. I am assuming this is because my bootloader is unlocked? I've been trying to find a way to install it but the only one I found was one requiring S-OFF which I don't have..
So basically my question is can I install ICS on my rooted unlocked bootloader?
If absolutely necessary I can always lock it, install, then re unlock it but that's such a pain.. AT&T gets on my nerves sometimes..
I am almost positive that you have to do the re-lock process unless somehow they found another way. You should probably read around next time. Most likely, someone has already asked your question.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
I've read quite a few threads but haven't been able to find anything.. and like I said, I did find one but it requires S-OFF and the juniper thing, or whatever to lazy to look up the name right now lol, is not released yet.. and I haven't been able to find another way to get S-OFF..
If you want ics that bad you have to do it like every one else here...there is no reason to whine cause your to lazy to relock the bootloader ..it take all of about three mins for me to relock mine ... and about 20 min to do the whole process...you don't need s off to get ics if your using the vivid or velocity. there's no place for lazy people here so please just do it like ever one else or do with out
I'm fully aware you don't NEED S-OFF to get ICS its the only way I have found to do it with an unlocked bootloader if you even bothered to read my post. And if your going to be rude and unhelpful stay out of my thread, people like you are why forums loose members. I simply asked a question I never said I was lazy and wouldn't do it I was simply looking for an easier alternative.
The S-OFF is obviously a mistake, because if it was S-OFF then you wouldn't have to do fastboot oem lock.
Yes, you have to relock the bootloader. Make sure you kept your unlock_code.bin or else you might not be able to unlock the bootloader again.
To be extra safe you should flash stock recovery before you do anything.
Quick question going along with this, it may be stupid, I just wanted to make sure before I try anything: I'm currently on RumRaider and I want to switch to ICS. If I were to revert to stock and relock and then do the OTA update to ICS from AT&T, can I still get root with the same zergrush application or whatever that I used before?

What is your Hboot version too?
If you want to root, now would probably be a good time if you Hboot is compatible with revolutionary
Unless you can find a ruu or ota that is compatible, which I don't know
If you don't want to root you need to find an ruu or ota that works with your phone (I have no experience in doing this)
Another thing you could do is make a goldcard and flash any ruu (I did this)
Edit: guide to s off froyo

Yes, you can run the ruu
I don't know which one, either someone else can tell you or you need to research
Just ask someone get before doing it, to be sure, I don't know sorry

You should probably start by installing CID Getter from the market to determine what region your phone is made for. After that, it will be easier to determine which RUU you need to get you up and running. Post your CID here and maybe we can find the correct RUU for you.

i already hav an OTA file for the indian version but from one of the threads but dint know hw to use the file to update my phone....
The problem with OTA files is that they are incremental and are only meant for going from specific versions of software so the fact that you are on such on old version, it is highly unlikely that any OTAs are available, hence you need to flash a full RUU of either the most up to date or at least a much newer release.
As an example, I flashed the Virgin AU RUU that's available on here but it's too old to receive OTA updates. I then used a backup of the software that was on my phone when I bought it and that received an update within seconds of turning on.
So you will need to determine what your CID is and then you will be able to get a newer RUU that will allow you to start receiving OTA updates.

Once again, please put the phone in FASTBOOT USB mode and then run the command:
fastboot getvar all
and post the results. This will give us all of the information to help guide you in the right direction.
The problem with an OTA is that it is upgrades you from one specific version to another, so if you don't have the right version to start with, an OTA will not help you.

Link to PH39IMG.zip?

For warranty purposes, I need to return an HTC Vivid to stock. However, after running the RUU, the bootloader status still shows it as "re locked". Supposedly, instead of running the RUU, if you use the PH39IMG.zip file, the bootloader will display "locked". I'm not sure how much this will matter for warranty purposes, but I'd like to be safe. However, the link to the PH39IMG.zip file in the superguide is broken, and has been for a while. I've searched all over the internet for one and I have not been able to find another. Does anyone either have the file, or can confirm for me that "re locked" is okay for warranty purposes?
I found 3 PH39IMG.zip files posted on random hosting sites as potentials.
Can anyone confirm for me if any of these 3 would work? I don't care if it's ICS or Gingerbread, I just want to return the phone to stock.
http://d-h.st/yPN this one looks promising...as it says GB unroot Stock. I just need to know if it's for the AT&T version of the Vivid

http://www.fileswap.com/share/index.php?id=0y1AzkdVRr this also looks possibly promising
Can someone check these out or link to a proper file? Thanks.

Yeah that's what I was thinking...that was my goal by posting this here. Thanks for the info though, I'm not gonna flash anything without knowing exactly what it is.

How different is using this ZIP from running the stock RUU and flashing via USB? I would say an RUU flash is pretty darn stock (all it would require you to do first is re-lock your bootloader, if you had unlocked it).

The RUU works but keeps the bootloader status as "Re Locked" instead of "locked" .. I have been told flashing the zip resets this as well.

After running the RUU, you should be able to use the utility in this thread to change the text of your bootloader:

Hope that helps.

Dude, that looks amazing. My issue is that it seems to modify the Juopunutbear ICS HBOOT and not the Stock HBOOT. I'm not sure it will work. Does anyone know if I'm reading that right?
