[Q] Optimus 2x P990h baseband - LG Optimus 2x

Hi, I recently updated my phone's baseband to 1035.21_201111120, with RIL 1120(V20I), and ever since that I noticed I can no longer connect to my 3G network.I tried downgrading my baseband to 0823 but I still cannot connect.
Does anybody know what is the best baseband and/or RIL for the Optimus 2x?
I'm in Mexico and the phone's with the carrier Telcel.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.

Update
I've since downgraded my baseband to 1035.21_20110606 with matching RIL 0606, and I still cannot connect to 3G networks or have a data connection in my phone, I will give 0823 a try now.

Strange that you cant connect to 3g.
I changed a lot of bb, and for now am using 0218 because i heard somewhere that the guy that is making cm7 for our phone is using the same bb.
And i have no such trouble as you do, in fact i have a better signal and better battery usage.
Sorry for my spelling hope you understood me.
U._

Guys,
CM7 ROMs recommend 218 BB. Try changing your BB to 725V20Q or BB V20L/M. It works very well...if you are on CM7 or CM9ICS, then the BB are recommended by the Developers in their posts...search and read that.
No 3G is normally the cause of unsuited BB and RIL combo....also install the GetRIL app from market and check for the suited/recommended RIL for your BB.

I'm currently running baseband 0823 with RIL 0823 V21b, and everything works well except for 3G, but I just found out it's my carrier who's blocking data connections on my line, a quick visit to the customer support center should fix that!
All this time thinking it was a baseband/RIL problem!
At least I found out before doing something more drastic.

Sorry had to reply, its rare to see Telcel + Optimus 2X in these forums... I tried BB0824 and doesn't work with 3G, I didn't tried BB0823 because I though it was from China or Singapore (SU660)... I'm right now in BB0725 and 3G works really fast, it only lags when you don't use it for hours then use it again it takes like 5 seconds to "wake up"... but I guess that's a power saving feature.

I think my battery lasted a bit more on 0823. Maybe it was just my imagination
I've found 3G works fine on 0823, didn't test it on 0725 tough, maybe I'll get to that one of this days.
Thanks!

My phone didn't see my wifi router's ssid until I changed the wifi channel in the router settings from 14 to something else. At least channels 3 and 6 work for me. Of course I'm not sure your problem is also wifi channel related...

Wifi wierd problem

Hey, I`ve aquired the 2x 2 days ago and I think it`s something else, I`ve had plenty of PDA phones and smartphones, but the dual core experience it`s highly noticed.
I`m on Modaco Custom ROM, build no GRJ22, kernel 2.6.32.9, baseband vrs 1035.21_20110622, 2.3.4 and apart from random reboots, my Wifi doesn`t seems to connect if I don`t have data enabled. I say "it doesn`t seems", cause apparently it connects, browser is working, market doesn`t, gmail app doesn`t, weather doesn`t and any other game that requires internet connection doesn`t.
So in order to connect to wifi I have to enable data, then the wifi. Viceversa it doesn`t work or from some reason my wifi connection isn`t in range.
I only wanted to know if I`m the only one with this problem and how can be fixed.
Thx, cheers!
I have exactly the same problem. Someone released a brand new baseband a few days ago which I might have a go with. I didn't have the same problem on other ROMs.

[Q] Problem, delay in recieving sms´s (bb prob or?)

Hey guys
Hope you can help me out here, getting really annoyed
my optimus 2x lost all connection to the mobile network so thought it would be a good time to upgrade.
And so i did to this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264721
before i installed the rom i updated my BB to 1035.21_20110725
Installation went smoothly (after 2 hours of trying and i remembered that i had forgot to convert to ext3)
Everything seemed fantastic. Keyword here is SEEMED.
MY textmessages (sms) are ****ed, sometimes i get messages from ppl 3-4 hours AFTER they sent them, and ppl sometimes recieve 2-3-4 of the same message from me.
The phone part can sometimes lock up, the signal looks good but when i try to call it never gets a line out or something like it.
Then i tried to update my RIL just in case, updated it to 0725 (v20c europe leaked gingerbread) using LG Getril app, hoping that might help. Thought it did, but alas, NO!
So guys, i really need some help here, im completely lost, annoyed and close to throwing a fit over this piece of crap phone. Never buying LG again thats for sure.
Hope you guys can help me getting this to work.
Sincerely Kim
Country: Denmark
System info:
LG-P990
android version: 2.3.4
baseband: 1035.21_20110725
Kernel ver. 2.6.32.9
Build number: GRJ22
LGE Ver. LGP990-V20e
This is more than likely a problem with your provider, not your phone.
To make absolute sure, you should smartflash back to a completely stock, stable version like 10D and see what happens to your SMSs then.
Nothing else can be done until you test it under stable conditions.
I dont think the problem is with the provider, but i have indeed tested like you said.
Flashed 622 BB and installed modaco FR19 2.2 rom
NO problems at all now.
Very weird.

[Q] Why is changing baseband and ril necessary?

I have just ordered an Optimus 2x, and thought I'd get some base knowledge about the phone before it arrives.
I currently have a ZTE Blade, and have used many custom ROMs, so am familiar with android and most of the concepts. One exception to this is flashing / changing baseband and ril settings. I can see lots of threads with downloads and how to guides, but none of them seem to answer the following questions.
1. Why do we need to make these changes at all? What is special about / wrong with LG phones? I've never had to make any such changes to my Blade.
2. As the baseband and ril combination required seems to change by country, does that mean if I take my phone out of the UK I'll need to change the baseband and ril for each country I visit?
Many thanks!
No you don't need to do that, baseband and RIl are different decause in each contry there is not same update and baseband are different,
There is not 1 baseband compatible with one country it's just because update need other baseband than before.
Hello!
The main difference between the basebands are the versions.
The Phone (talking about a p990 for Europe/UK) will most probably come with a 0725-baseband (the Version from 25th of July) the newer basebands (0823 and 0824) are either optimized for a different region (i.e. 0823 seem to be almost the same as 0725 – but came out in Canada) or are for a different model (0824 is for SU660).
Out of the box there is no need to change the baseband, but when you flash a custom rom you might need a different baseband – i.e. Cyanogenmod(CM) 7 and MIUI need a baseband that is compatible and won’t work with the newer basebands that a made for the stock Gingerbread-ROMs from LG.
CM7 by the way comes out of the box always with RIL 0218(that is/was the very first version) – and you need to flash a RIL corresponding too your baseband (i.e. 0725) after flashing a new custom rom – in this case it is a good tip is to install the app "LG RIL Version" from the market.
So that said – now a few words to the versions themselves…
I tried 0725, 0622 and 0823 – 0824 didn’t work. Some people say that BB/RIL 0622 gives best battery life and the German forum www.handy-faq.de recommends it. I personally use now the BB/RIL 0823(Canada) which is similar to the 0725 – but gives me slightly better reception indoors.
…some are always on the hunt for the newest version and use 0824 which is for SU660 (the Korean version of the 2x).
So again the only real need is if you get a phone with preinstalled Gingerbread and you want to install CM7 or MIUI - or the other way around - you get a phone with Froyo and want to install a GB-Custom-Rom based on stock rom (i.e. topogigi oder Modaco).
If the baseband works on you phone/rom-Compo it should work everywhere and there is no real need to change anything except in cases noted above or in hope for a little bit better signal/reception with a newer version or better battery life etc.
Hope that’s helped a little…

Thanks for the great explanation.... so i understand right, BB comes with the individual phone, as part of the hardware and could not be changed? onthe other hand, RIL comes with OS (ROM)?

You actually can change your BB with a tool named Smartflash, but it requires a full wipe of your phone and you need your computer to do it.
RIL comes with the ROM indeed, for example CyanogenMod comes with 218 RIL, and you can change your RIL easily with the GetRIL app.
BaseBand is a piece of the low-level software that handles the "radio" in your phone. Radio in here means components for WiFi, GSM (wherever really GSM, or UMTS, or HSPA, etc.), BlueTooth, etc. This is quite important piece of soft and not easily accessible, at least on LG (as far as I remember on HTC Desire it could have been flashed via recovery). For different countries there could be different BBs. Even for different operators I believe. This is why some of them work better for some particular people and worse for other.
Now, the RIL is a Radio Interface Library - a piece of software which comes with the system (ROM) and it gives you a "bridge" between system (kernel?) and Base Band. For the phone to work in an optimal way you need matching version of the BB and RIL. If you mix one BB with some different RIL your phone may not work (in the sense that you will not be able to make any calls or connect to the WiFi or whatever) or work in a faulty way.
Now, you'll get a phone with some BB already on-board and personally I do not think there is any need for you to change it to any other version - if it works then fine. But if you wish to flash some custom roms then they will come with some RIL and the best thing to do is to change this RIL to the one that matches your BB. There is GetRIL application on the market which makes it a piece of cake. For example: CM7, Temasek Kangs were coming with the 218 RIL which I was always changing to 725 RIL with the help of the aforementioned app as soon as I flashed new Kang. In fact the GetRIL application makes it even easier - if you are on CM7 rom then there is "keep RIL after flashing" option which automatically keeps the RIL in the version you want.
I have my phone with ICS and BB 1035.21_20110606 and i have some problems getting wifi signal when im about 5-7 meters away from the router, (Its because the walls or is my baseband?) if i chance my BB it will give me a bit more signal?

Well, the only way of checking is probably to flash new BB ... but maybe first you can check how some other equipment behaves, e.g. some notebook or netbook or maybe some other mobile phone (e.g. of your friend)?

More than likely not.
Does your router have several (external) antennae? If yes, point them in 3 different directions, that'll probably solve your reception problems with devices with only one antanna (like the O2x). And of course, how many walls and what kind of material they're made of matters a lot. Sometimes the only solution is to have more access points.
EDIT: Btw, this is a good app for analyzing signal variations etc. in your environment.
Hello together,
maybe someone can give me advice ... I just found out that my baseband is the apparently very old version 218 (the baseband, not the RIL).
I face serious battery drain problems with the latest ICS ROMs, and now I have been told that changing the baseband might actually help the issue. Seeing that this is quite a thing to do, I wonder if it really makes sense.
Can anyone give me a hint?
i am on T-Mobile UK, using an ICS ROM, my current baseband is 218.
As far as I read from different threads, it could be an option to switch to 725 - is there a chance my battery life might improve?
Hi guys, it seems that there is something wrong with the latest getril app as it won't successfully install the matching ril after successful download. Does anybody know how to manually save the RILs? Temasek has the RIL on his mediafire folder so there's no problem with the source.

[FIX] fix static noise / bad call quality

tl;dr:
A SU660 BB (824, 1120, 0420) will fix the weird static noise and bad call quality issue on "made in Korea" devices!
You'll find more information on this issue in this post and more information (including known issues and fixes) on BB 824/1120/0420 in the second one.
Original Post:
-------------------
I just want to share this with all of you who might have missed it within the CM7 Nightlies and Baseband discussion threads - and want to gather all information about this into one thread.
This was found out originally by vadonka here.
I found many others who confirmed that people on the other end of your call complain about static noise (like the noise when you're holding 2 phones together or standing next to a speaker).
We were not able to track down why some p990 users suffered from it and others don't. Some could fix it with the 502BB - some with 725BB and the Gingerbread leaked ROM - but not with CM7.
It appears that there are different (hardware?) versions out there.
If your device is "Made in Korea" (you'll find that info on a sticker under your battery) you might suffer from this noise issue - but not all Korea-made devices do.
For "Made in Korea" ones this noise is almost gone with SU660 BB and a matching RIL (824, 1120, 0420)!
These basebands are for the SU660 (the korean version of the P990), but work for us, too.
I'd almost given up on this issue - was using the leaked ROM (which sucks if you wanna use CM7) and intended to sell it soon. I tried nearly every possible combination of BB/RILs with CM7 some time ago - and never got rid of this problem. My poor girlfriend had to answer maaaaaaany test calls hehe.
This weekend I thought to give CM7 one more try, lurked into the CM7 nightly thread and found this Baseband which seems to fix my issue.
It's confirmed to work for the "Made in Korea" 2x's of vadonka, Sckank, TrymHansen, pastime1971 and temasek.
You'll find more infos on known issues in the 2nd thread.
So - why are Basebands which are made for the SU660 working best with our "Made in Korea" P990's? This could explain many of the "hard to track down" issues some people have - because their phones differ even if it's the same model.
You can get 824/1120/0420 BB and RIL here: P990 Complete Baseband Overview Thread
There you'll find BB and RIL install instructions, too.
positive comments
pretty similar to 725BB - if you don't have problems with 725 BB stick to it, as it might have less issues!
good call quality on both ends
good battery life (neither better nor worse than e.g. 218 or 725 BB)
good network speed & connectivity
no wifi problems

Fix:
There is a fix from pastime1971 if you're using CM7, you need a CM version with the following fix cherry picked though: "Change Iaaf7f1c4: LGEStarRIL: Apply DST regardless of Infineon fix (PATCH #3)"
In temasek's or owains KANGs this fix is already included.
Head to their threads to download a ROM and get instructions how to enable automatic time.

Well your phone isn't compatible to 824BB - you should install 725 or 218 instead.
As it's not compatible you shouldn't suffer from the "Made in Korea"-Noise issue anyway.
So this is the dial-up-esque noise that pre-warns of any impending text messages/phone calls?

No - it's a quite disturbing noise on the other end which won't stop. If you're not suffering (better: the people whom you're calling) I wouldn't advise this baseband.

Sure - just follow Pauls guide to change the baseband here.
For getting the matching RIL I use sibbors "GetRIL" app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sibbor.getril
i flashed 824 yesterday and i have a couple of problems with it.
every reboot i have to set 2G only again, seems to reset/ignore the GSM only option and the timezone is 1hour behind...
so far i have not noticed any noise like i had with 725 but havent used it a lot so i will continue to listen and ask if its better than before

Yep, it's not perfect. As I said before, you need to disable automatic time for the moment - which is probably due to the "fix" I mentioned above.
I can confirm that 2G makes some trouble - maybe Toggle 2G/3G will help you?

well it no serious problem once its set manually and since i never use 3g i just have to think about enabling the 2g option when i reboot. maybe i could try if green power can handle the 2g only option... lets see
edit: nope doesnt look like it since green power works with the device settings which are messed up. however, as far as i experienced it might be a problem with cm7, i think i have some strange behavior with every bb except 208 if i remember correctly.

Beware of imei getting hosed when you install Korean baseband. There is a way to recover and keep it handy. I used putty on windows to fix it when I messed up a while ago.
This also explains why I my phone keeps rebooting and showing BSODS when installing Spica's HP kernel. I always thought that it was strange that there where different versions of the phone.
FYI, I tried different BB and also the 824 with MIUI but the battery drain was awful. LG just released V20M for the Netherlands so i got stuck with the 725 BB.
I don't complain about the quality and I didn't try the 824 with this version. Maybe later when i'm sick of this one .
I have a "made in korea" device with 725 BB (from v20c I think) and 218 RIL. My rom is CM7 204. I have asked a lot of my friends and family and no complains for the quality.

That's interesting.
Then there're even some more differences than "made in korea".
LG has somehow managed to fix the static sound for their v20x builds with 725 BB, but CM7 hasn't.
Does anyone have an idea how to track this down to help the devs to build a workaround? I am pretty happy with 824 BB right now, but I would prefer to have a choice.
I have a P990 assembled in Korea and it had awful call quality with every BaseBand except 0502 and 0824.
i have tried 502 and it was also pretty good but the battery drain was a lot higher:O
so im back to 824. anyone know if there is a fix for the automatic time beeing off by an hour? i remember that this was present in earlier nigjtlies and got fixed somehow, so maybe the same fix can be used on this case.

Another small issue: the call initiation is a bit longer - if I'm too quick with saying "hello" then the other end won't get it (and vice versa).
Can anyone confirm?

I cannot reproduce that. Which ROM are you using and which BB/RIL?
Hello!
Mine is also made in Korea.
I tested 0622, 0725 and 0823 - 0824 didn't work.
Voice quality was always acceptable didn't notice any problems there.
But overall signal reception(especially indoors) is by far better using 0823 - but this might be a special because my provider is known for bad reception indoors…

[Q] New LG o2x in Canada - frustrated with stock ROM. Options? Suggestions?

Hi everybody!
I see here a lot of people from Europe but I'm in Canada and hope for some help.
I just got LG o2x and trying to use it with cheap data plan in Ontario through 7/11 Speakout.
First problem - they filter traffic so I have to use proxy. And even then phone is really slow and sometimes even market has to be reloaded couple times... My connection drops sometimes inside the factory I work in and then doesn't pick up... I guess you know.
I've read about people saying that this phone has great hardware but poor software
I already rooted my phone (to get autoproxy running).
Now I need to put custom ROM and kernel...
That's where it gets confusing. I have Barnes&Nobles Nook Color with CM7.1 on it. And I like it. Also I have Acer A500 with stock HC3.2. But I'm still dummy in Android
From what I understand I can put CM7.1 (Thanatos2x v5.1 or Temasek's Kang), MoDaCo. Right? Any other suggestions? But then there is tonns of kernels... How to choose? I just need basic features to surf net and create hot spot for my kids tablets
And another question is BASEBANDS. What are they and should I change it or not? I'm in Canada but getRIL says I have:
RIL 0725 (V20I, Italy)
Baseband 1035.21_20110725.
Thanks for any suggestions or pointing to right direction!
Aleks
You can flash CM7 temasek's KANG on your phone (link in sig)
A kernel I would recommend you to use is vadonkas ETaNa Kernel. (link in sig) It's a great kernel with good performance and battery life.
You don't necessarily have to change your baseband. Only when you really have problems with signal or call quality. A baseband is more or less a driver which regulates signal etc. Changing your BB requires a full wipe, therefore I wouldn't recommend it. If you do have bad signal, you can mostly solve this problem by installing a matching RIL with your BB. GetRIL app will tell you which ones match and which one don't. If this doesn't help, then you should change your BB.
Or, you can read a bit and not spam the fora..
