Scrolling in Browser - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
is there a way to get the browser to scroll easier vertical than horizontal? My old HTC desire did that. So you weren't strolling to the left and right all the time when you just want to go down to read an article.

I dont think its possible in the stock browser, in Opera ther is an option to enable/disable Pan Scrolling, but for me at least doesn't seem any difference if its on or not.

Where is the setting to enable/disable pan browsing in opera? I can't seem to find it..I assume is opera mobile right?
Thanks.
Edit: plse disregard..I think I found it, I simply enable single colum view. Now its perfect. Even in desktop mode I only have to scrool vertical. Funny I did not realise about this before.

[SOLVED] How do I disable automatic screen rotation?

How do I disable screen rotation on my Touch Diamond, specifically when using Opera?
I've tried Gyrator 2 but to no avail.
Solution:
Not elegant but...
Change registry HKLM\Software\Opera\GSensor\IdleTime to a very large number like 1000000.
not 100% sure but try deleting the gsensor.lnk file in windows\startup folder
I saw in one of the threads that even the phone dialer screen rotates. This doesn't occur in my phone. Does this happen in your phones??

Not as standard - only Opera (and one other that I have forgot about) rotates. However if, like me, you use GSen then other apps (you can choose which) will rotate. My dialer screen rotates as does my TT6 for example.
Thanks!!
I read reviews on Gsen & Gyrator still having some teething problems in this same forum. I don't mind to wait further before things like these gets ironed out.
If you are aware of something that is error free so far, appreciate a lead.
Ive been looking for a solution for my IGO

But couldnt find one.
I see you managed to auto-rotate your tomtom.
is that possible with the iGo8?
I've tried adding that line in the gsen config but it still doesnt work.
I have had no problem with Gsen and it works fine for me. I can't answer if it works with Igo because I don't use it, but it works with TTN6. Having said that if I turn a corner sharply at the same time as hitting a bump it goes back to portrait for a few seconds.

just a guess, but are you browsing Opera / Photo Album whilst lying down in bed, perchance?
i'm having the same issue, it's really annoying, no idea why they couldn't have a settings menu to toggle auto / manual.

Yes. But sometimes it also happens if I am carrying it and accidently tilt it.
Solved.
Edited registry HKLM\Software\Opera\GSensor\IdleTime to a very large number like 1000000.
This auto rotating has been drving me mad. People all were suggesting gsen and other utilities but they all are awkward. In the end this simeple trick did it.
Like Apple was the first to get the touchscreen done right after 20 years of touchscreen history, Apple also did the auto-rotate right. With an iPhone/iPodTouch, it won't turn more than twice, so you can easily avoid unwanted rotation. Why Windows Mobile develops cannot figure out simple solutions like that?
Thanks for posting this fantastic workaround!
I saw this thread weeks ago but lost it and couldn't find it again despite my best efforts with the search function & google.
Here's a CAB for it (my 2nd ever!):
Thanks alot .d
just a little FYI - the cab doesn't work for me...the program (Opera) still auto rotates. I have tried the manual hack too.
Any more info?

Found the solution! I'm so happy. I'm done with this stupid automatic rotation:
The trick about HKLM\Software\Opera\GSensor\IdleTime need to be done but you also need to remove in HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList
the opera value.
I did the same for google maps and it works perfectly
I don't know about the rest but for HTC HD it's VERY SIMPLE!
HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\AutoRotation = 0 (Default = 2)
My Problem was mostly with Dialer. No more screen rotation for me!

you just need to install it in the same location in which you have installed opera.

Thanks Davey101. Your cab file works well with the HTC HD Mini to disable the annoying autorotate feature in Opera Mobile 10.

Web browsers & Image size on TD2 screen

Hmm, I guess this is my first post. And I'm not even sure if it's the right forum for it, though considering the issue comes from the huge screen resolution from the TD2, it may be the correct forum.
Anyway, I love my TD2. It's my first smartphone and even though it cost me €405, I don't regret buying it.
I'm using it a lot for my studies though, and I like using the wikipedia/wapedia.mobi. Thing is that Opera apparently doesn't manage very well image size when he resize the page with the mobile view; I'm getting images bigger than what they should be and much more pixelised; therefore when I browse mathematics related pages, I have to scroll horizontally to view the whole formula... which isn't really practical. The same happens with IE, plus the browser being unpractical.
Anyway, would you know any way to reduce for example all images in a page by 25 or 50% in a mobile browser (if you know one that can do it, it would be great)?
It would be too bothersome to download the pages on my computer and manually resize images and correct the html tags
Thanks in advance,
lnky
This has been irretating me too. Also, I think that the font size often i way too big even when I zoom out as much as possible. But I guess there is no easy fix for this.
I've been checking the opera configuration file, though I'm not sure if the "scale" or "skin scale" or even the "Image.css" work :/ I've tried various settings...

I have no idea what you mean by this. Could you give me a URL to see on my phone what you are talking about. Opera for my has sized all pages like they do on my laptop. No pictures have been pixelized ever except when I zoom in all the way.
i like Opera but on a WVGA screen give Iris a shot- it's a simple browser and it's good for sizing. torchmobile.com free- and it uses the iphones webkit engine so everything has that iPhoney feel

Me neither. Could it be that the websites mentioned have mobile-specific CSS styles that would cause the pixellation you mention?

Is there a way to scroll down a really long page in opera?

Because opera doesn't have a scroll bar like IE does.. or does it?

Yeah, it is kinda lame, but it is only really an issue with XDA forum front page for me. Most sites are laid out in a way that it is not an issue. Maybe we could make a request to Opera for future versions to have some kind of sidebar or similar feature.

Use trackball like a mouse scroll when browsing?

I did a search and came up with nothing. Sorry if it's been asked.
Is there a way to make the trackball work like a mouse when browsing? I know that you can scroll on links with it but I would like another option to scroll.
Please direct me to the correct thread if I missed it on the search. Thanks.
How does your's work? What browser and version are you running?
Mine totally works like a mouse scroll.
I have stock froyo, and for me I can only use the trackball to scroll through links on the browser.
I did some digging and couldn't find any settings to enable the trackball to work as a mouse.
So how you did it?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I use the Rodriguezstyle ROM. I'm in the same boat as gratti but I use the Dolphin HD browser. I can only scroll through links but not scroll like a normal mouse like on a regular PC.
One of the biggest reason I want to be able to use it like a mouse scroll is (if it's even possible at all) when I play some flash games, I would like to be able to scroll to the buttons I want to press instead of using my fingers (which is pretty hard to do). And of course since I am only able to scroll through links, it does not allow me to click the controls in the flash games.
Have you guys tried using Opera Mini, it makes the track ball work as a mouse, but then agains it isnt the best browser.
i think dolphin hd lets u use the volume buttons as a scroll

Right, that I know and it has a lot less options and functions than DHD.
I know about scrolling with the volume button on DHD, but that just makes no sense cause what if you want to increase/decrease the volume while you are on the webpage?

[Q] Desktop View in Default Browser

I tried googling and searching the threads here, but found no answer in the forums...
My question is, is there a way to view desktop sites in default browser? I tried using about:debug, but there is no option to set UASTRING on the menu...
I am using opera mobile and dolphin, but AFAIK there is no hardware acceleration on both, so I would like to try the default browser for some sites where I would need hardware acceleration...
If there is any please let mo know... Thanks!!!

On URL type
About:useragent
And press go, the a menu pops up choose desktop. Then type the site you want to see lets say www.Google.com it will now show the desktop version of Google not mobile one. Now carefull if you close the browser it goes back to normal. For more info just Google useragent android. It will give you some ideas about it.
Hope it will help you for a while
