*Application Settings Screen* flickers when entering the App's Settings screen - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Problem:
Application Settings Screen flickers in certain Apps when first entering the Application's Settings. THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN PORTRAIT Mode. It does not happen in Landscape.
Cause:
The device may have non-standard fonts or font sizes that are not properly utilized by some applications.
I am using default fonts with an application called Big Font to enlarge font-size to 120%. When I reduce font-size to normal size (100%), the problem no longer occurs.
Temporary Solution:
1) Tilt the device to Landscape mode and flickering should stop. Then you can return to Portrait mode.
2) Reset your fonts to normal fonts and/or normal font-size.
3) Enter the application's Settings screen in Landscape first, then rotate device to Portrait if necessary.
To date I have encountered this issue with stock Samsung Internet Browser v.2.3.3 (Gingerbread-KG3), HDR Camera+ 2.16, and PowerAMP (multiple versions).
I hope this is helpful to others that may encounter this issue.

Is it possible to change the default landscape orientation?

Here is what I mean:
When using portrait and launching an app that forces landscape (most games, for example), it always defaults to 90 degree rotation (ie. Turning the phone counterclockwise). With the SGS in a lot of games this is uncomfortable when plugged in because of the USB port's location. If the other landscape orientation (270 degrees I guess, or turning the phone clockwise from portrait) were used the cable would be on top and you could rest your hand beneath it. It would also have the advantage of your hand not covering the light sensor and causing brightness changes.
So my question is, is there an app that can force this globally, or maybe a configuration change I've missed?
I dont think thats possible
but i guess a software can be built cosidering the fact that our captivate supports landscape in both directions in other apps and while reading and browsing on net
I've seen posts about orientation settings in build.prop but they were all froyo. I've also read that since gb there is a screenOrientation= reverseLandscape option for individual apps' AndroidManifest.xml file, so editing them individually should work. Just makes me think there must be a value somewhere that defines what the default landscape orientation is, just don't know if it's compiled or easy to modify.
If anyone is interested, there's an app on market called Orientation Control that can force orientation, even has a tasker plugin. I created a tasker profile for apps that force landscape and used the plugin to force reverse
landscape instead, then an exit task to set it back to portrait. Works perfectly

Black overlay on chrome in landscape

This is something I haven't seen before. I just got a Nexus 6, and on the first day I had it, I poked around on the phone with the OOB configuration, and chrome did work in landscape. Videos would be full screen, etc. Since then, I have:
Upgraded to 5.0.1
Rooted the phone
Removed the encryption
Changed the dpi to 493 with textdroider
Replaced the google launcher with Nova
Set the desktop grid to 8x7
Now, if I switch the chrome into landscape mode, the page takes up the whole screen for about a second, but then half of the screen becomes black, like there is an overlay over it. It cuts off the bottom half of the page. This happens when playing full screen videos in chrome too. Everything else on the phone, including the desktop.
I put the dpi back to its original value, but that didn't matter, so I changed it back. I've also set the desktop grid in Nova back to its original settings, which also didn't matter. I tried using chrome beta, but it has the same issue. Has anyone experienced this before? I haven't found any other examples of this. I tried to take a screenshot to post here, but the screenshot came out looking normal.
Fixed it.
Setting the DPI back to 560 fixed the issue. It must just not like the 493. I tried 520, but that didn't work either. I'm going to try 480 now, since 493 looked pretty nice.

Change lcd density to 560 in /system/build.prop, save changes, exit, and then reboot. 520 was the closest I've found that was free of issues but chrome would still have that issue in landscape with side buttons down. In landscape with side buttons up, however, chrome works fine in landscape in 520. I'm sure other values will provide the same but it seems other apps get affected.
480 was a no-go
Nope, issue persists on 480 too. Guess I'm going to be stuck at 560 until this is figured out.

460 DPI seems to work for me. I had issues with 480 and other DPI I tried as well. Seems hit or miss at certain settings.
460 works fine. I started at 480 and had half black screen as well.
I have been fiddling with different settings and 498 was the lowest/smallest I have been able to get with out any issues what so ever. With other numbers that I have seen seem to work but then I always end up with letters in the keyboard being cut off from the pop-up when I tap them. I don't know much about how the screen works and how scaling works to figure it out which DPI's will work with out any issues.
493 dpi over here.
I experience half black screen bug in landscape when i rotate my phone in such way that my power/volume buttons are on the buttom of the phone and if the keyboard is not present.
if I rotate the phone in proper direction, meaning, when the phone is in a landscape position and my power/volume buttons are located at the top of the phone, bug isn't present.
if keyboard is present and the phone is in landscape mode( power/volume buttons on the bottom) position results in keyboard flashing/constantly trying to redraw itself every time I press on keyboard.
Black overlay bug is system wide for me, not just in chrome(also present in other browsers, message app, file manager, etc), so I think the bug lies in Google Keyboard not liking 493dpi in landscape.
{ I'm as well, removed the encryption, root'ed, 5.0.2(AOSP, LRX22G, Pure Shamu) with Nova(12x7 grid) as default launcher. }
I just wanted to let you know that this issue seems to be resolved on Android 6 / Marshmallow.
I'm now able to set the density to 384dpi without getting the infamous half black screen in landscape mode (when the phone is rotated clockwise).
FYI: 384dpi is the highest value possible to keep the UI in tablet mode (including 4-way screen rotation, etc). From 385dpi up the UI switches to phone mode.

Portrait mode only being ignored by some apps?

Sometimes i like to use my phone while laying on my side in bed. I hate landscape mode so I turn the phone to portrait mode only.
This works for apps like chrome or the home screen however some banking apps like hanscom Federal Credit union seem to ignore this setting and if you rotate the phone the app still rotates even though the setting is set on the phone.
Would this be a note 9 issue or an issue with the app itself? How can the app override a system setting?

My problems with the software / colorOS 6.1

I opened tickets on the realme website but I'd like to give an overview here as well:
Problems I encountered (EU version):
1. Settings reset
I often notice the camera taking videos with 30fps only. When I adjust the settings to 60fps, after a while it seems to revert back to 30
Developer settings, e.g. turning off the transition animations also reset (without rebooting the device!) after about a day
At last, the dark mode under 'realme labs' also reverts back after a short while. That's so frustrating!
2. Cloned apps
When using the app Cloner, the cloned app doesn't show up under different launchers, e.g. lawnchair
3. Apps in background / RAM
I have 12GB of RAM, it should be more than enough to hold most of the apps I'm using... However, when switching apps it happens far too often that my apps restart from scratch. Is there no intelligent background app management for people with lots of RAM?
4. Dual WiFi mode
Seems to be available on the CN rom only? No option for me under settings / WiFi
5. Screen recorder
The build in screen recorder doesn't capture software audio
6. Turning the phone, eg. Horizontal mode is often not recognized
Did other people here encounter these problems as well? Did you find a solution?

1. Same with the camera, I noticed that it resets after a while, I set 4K/60 and i come back later on 1080p/30. Hope this bug will be fixed with the next realmeOS.
Haven't tried changing animation speed, but other developer options as debugging and forced resize stay selected for me. Dark mode too, have it enabled since day 1 and it never deactivated, there may be some problems with your rom.
2. Haven't used cloned apps, if that's the case it's a bug they need to fix
3. It depends on the apps, I agree that having more ram available it should keep as much as it can in memory, but it's a common thing in Chinese ROMs that they'll close out heavy apps. I still don't think of this as too much of a problem, if you really need some apps open you can simply "lock" them in multitasking.
4. Yup, no dual WiFi for me on EU device, guess we are cut out.
5. It's one of the feature coming in RealmeOS along with recording with front camera during screen recording.
6. Never had any rotation problem
For sound at screen recorder go settings->system apps (only option from microphone though)

Screen auto-rotate only in gallery when viewing pictures/videos?

I had this phone for a couple of weeks and I can swear I had it on portrait mode all the time so my phone did not rotate except for two instances: when viewing youtube videos if I tilted the phone it would rotate and when viewing picture I have taken in gallery. It auto rotated only in those two cases.
Today for some reason it stopped and now I can either have it all (auto-rotation everywhere) or nowhere.
I have really not messed with any settings. Did I miss anything? How can I make it back to the way it was?
I never use the gallery so can't speak to that, but what you describe for YouTube is not normal behaviour in my experience. if I don't have auto rotation on I have to manually select landscape.
maybe do a hardware test for the accelerometer
*#0*# then select sensor.
Sensor is working nicely.
Sorry I might have been wrong. Youtube didn't act like that. it turned sideways when I fullscreened it. That should be normal behavior.
But what pertains to the gallery - it always autorotated independently of the setting because it was always set on portrait mode.
if the accelerometer works I have to ask if your hitting the right icon for screen rotation ?
it's pretty close to sync and smartview
