Restore Touchwiz Backup - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I backed up the touchwiz apk and odex file on the stock rom thinking that i would be able to reinstall it to get the stock theme, but whenever i try to reinstall it it just says "Application not installed", i've tried changing permissions, but it still didn't work.
What can i do ?

System/app
Permissions
rw-r-r
And reboot

That didn't work i set permissions and rebooted and tried to install and the same message came up

It´s not ment to be installed!
You install any other launcher just to play safe
Then copy twlauncher and the odex file to system/app, replace, set permission´s to
RW-R--R--
Now just reboot your phone! Choose TW when phone finished reboot
Uninstall the other launcher DONE

Updating ADW in CM6.1

how do i update ADW in CM6.1 & keep it in the system/app folder, vs getting it from the market & having it installed into my data/app section?
Hmm..if it's possible you'd need to remove old through adb and then push the new one there. Not really sure how that would work out but as long as you nandroid first there's an out.
~maybe I set it too high...
You can do that with root explorer. Just DL the app and install (press home set new as default), then move it from /data/app to /system/app and then reboot (you may need to fix permissions). You can delete the stock one either with root explorer or titanium backup. You could also do all this with adb as dpeeps suggested.

so dl adw from market, install & (overwrite old adw) to data/app, then move it to system/app & reboot.
cant set it as default, as its my only launcher.
what do you mean, fix permissions?

You shouldn't need to if it just overwrite the old one, permissions should be fine. For future reference it sometimes helps fix force closes and odd issues. In your terminal emulator or adb shell type fix_permissions.

[Q] lost samsung contacts and phone apps

I rooted my samsung galaxy note and then installed RocketRom V7. I then installed Kalagas Mixed theme for better looks.
I wanted to change the contacts and the phone looks, so I downloaded these apks from galaxy note apps and themes forum
and copied them in /system/app using root explorer in ROM Toolbox utility.
I made copies of Contacts.apk and Phone.apk before overwriting them.
Unfortunately, now I dont see anything for contacts and phone icon at the bottom of the screen and google search app
is not searching any of my contacts. I changed the permissions of these apps to 644 also, but nothing has changed.
Fortunately I have GO Dialer installed and I can make cals.
I tried replacing contacts.apk and phone.apk with the backup, reflashed RR V7 ROM after cleaning cache and dalvik chache. Nothing has worked.
How should I go about it?
any suggestion would be greatly appreciated
Afaik, from experience of trying alternative diallers and contacts and having the same problem, there is no way to restore dialler and contacts apps without doing factory reset. Don't know why. Maybe its integrated thoroughly with the framework or something.
Better get clarification on this though.

I've just been notified that you can copy the apks back to original location if you're rooted although it never worked for me...

[Q] problems with GDX

Hello,
I have troubles with GDX - when I copy app to system/app and change permissions, install it and then reboot, still I don't see app in launcher - I couldn't use it. What I can do better? For example I would like to install xperia launcher and I can't. Thank you so much.
1.If you want to install an ordinary app you don't need to push it to system/app,just you should install it simply.
2.If you want to replace an app with the app in system/app,after change the permission you must push it to system/app,and just reboot ,no need to again install it.by the way remember just some special app you can move it to system/app and replace it with default one.like as Framework or mms,etc that someone cook it specialy for rom.
3.and finally if you want to replace an ordinary app to default one that exist in system/app,you must first install the app simply, after that you must go to system/app and delete the default one,and just reboot, and enjoy,
For example:
you want to replace the holo launcher with sony home launcher, first you must install sony home launcher then run it,and from settings make it as your default launcher, then go to system/app ,and delete the holo launcher, then reboot and enjoy!
i hope you got my meaning, good luck!
Thank you for yours help, but I have still the same problem.
I'm going to describe my own procedure:
1 - I want install Sony home launcher with corners.
2 - download launcher and put it on sd card
3 - Via root explorer going to sd card and install launcher - "Application not installed"
4 - then copy sony launcher and paste him In system/app - set permissions and install - "Application not installed"
5 - reboot
6 - nothing happened
7 - what I do badly?
Otherwise - I want not replace holo launcher.
Thank you

Maybe The file is corrupted or you're trying to install stock x8 launcher that won't install easily or it's odexedzl!
Try another one, apps must install then moved to system /app

You can flash the rom again using PC odin.
Or
Download any rom based on LSZ and extract the popular browser apk from there and push it to the phone.
# but first you need to check of there is pop up browser apk in the phone using TB

System App Update

Hi
i'm using an AOKP ROM and i have a problem, but i had this problem also with many other (cyanogenmod, miui ...) ROMs...
I installed an update for an system app (playstore)... no problems... if i reboot the app is still updated, but if i shutdown the phone an turn on, the app is "downgraded" to old version!
I used Link2SD: integrate update in rom... this works and android update the system after reboot, but the problem persists
a wipe after convert app to system does not help -.-
now i have the followig questions:
1: how to fix this (without wipe the system)
2: how to modify an ROM.zip to integrate some updates?
thanks in advance

Try this..
1. download latest playstore (v 4.3.11) on your pc
2. transfer it into your phone
3. rename the file to Vending.apk
4. go to system/app and delete the old playstore file
5. now place the dowloaded file in system/app and set permissions rw-r--r--
6. reboot.
now it wont be downgraded..:good:
