Ive never had any trouble themeing an android. Well until now! The problem is that evey time i install the files my cyanogen mod settings crash when i try to open them, and nothing in the "about phone" section of my settings displays what it is supposed to. Im using gingerxperia v22. I moved the icons into the .apk's with 7zip after some hours of looking and resizing. SystemUI, Settings, Phone, and framework-res are the files im trying to edit. Ive tried pushing them with adb, root explorer, and made an update.zip and flashed it with cwm. Same problem no matter how i load them in my phone. I can even change the files back to the original and the problem persists. Ive done a restore and everything is back to normal. But i want my theme to work. Anybody have a insight as to what i might be doing wrong?

Hey
I've recently started to play a little with theming other peoples lovely work to fit to my phones theme
I just tried the official HTC battery widget, but after i finished my work and wanted to try it out, i saved everything, re-signed the apk, uninstalled the one that was on the phone, placed my new apk on sd card and tried to install it using a file explorer, but after i click install i get the installing screen, followed by "Application not installed", is this because it's an official htc file that it won't let me install it from other places that the add widget menu, or did i do something wrong?
Regards
Rapo
Really?
278 views and no a single one who knows the answer or don't mind to test it out you self to see if it works for you?
You can't sign system apk's with test keys. Use the same META-INF folder that was used in the original apk - copy and paste it.
I've tried both with and without resigning, and nothing worked.
It's not a system file, it's pulled from the SD Card, since it's the widget you can download xtra from the "Get more HTC widgets"
That's why I don't understand why it won't install :/
Push it through adb there should be no errors ther
Just tried pusing the apk trough adb, but didn't see any changes, so tried rebooting phone, and it just started to loop at the boot screen
So had to pull battery and make a nanRestore..
So still needs a solution for how to get the edited htc battery widget to work..
What ROM are you using? An official one from HTC or Modded?
Using SenseHero 2.1 B5.1
The normal one works without problems, but i wanted to edit the color of it to make it fit my theme
Just had a mate looking at it, who knows quite a bit more than me about this, and no matter what he tried he couldn't get it to work either.
So it seems like HTC have made their widgets copy proof
But if anyone knows a way to get around this, please let me know
I tried several times to modify my framework-res.apk using the method described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7611112&postcount=39 , but every time i push the new apk I get a cascade of FC's and have to re-flash the rom (re-pushing the backed up apk does not fix the problem).
What am I missing? Is it because I use a framework-res.apk that has allready been themed?
At the moment I am using Doc's rom.
Does anyone have a solution to this?
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I recently installed Simplicity 1.5 (JVT odexed) on my phone, and also touchwiz 4.5. However, I cannot access live wallpapers at all. Now I know Simplicity rom doesn't include them as default, so I used the add on creator to put in the livewallpaperpicker.apk & .odex via cwm but still no joy (it appeared to unpack the files but I can't add a wallpaper - they either forceclose or say the option isn't available). I then tried pushing both files into the system/app folder on my phone, which it has done successfully, but even after a reboot - still no live wallpapers.
I'm not sure if it's TW4.5 that's causing the problem or simplicity, but I think it may be the former. I've checked in the system/app folder and both files are there, but trying to install the apk via my phone just results in the 'not installed' message. Any assistance would be kindly appreciated.
Thanks!
Well I've removed touchwiz 4.5 and still am not able to install live wallpapers, so it must be something to do with simplicity rom I guess. It's a shame, because it seems to be a really nice rom, and I know from reading the developers thread that other people appeared to have been able to install the live wallpapers via the add on creator so not really sure what I'm doing wrong...
Update: Well installing all of the missing files from Simplicity (linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18268152&postcount=1695) seems to have sorted out the problem. The CWM mentions something about permissions when installing - you don't get that message using the stand alone add on creator created zip so I guess it could be something to do with that. I purposefully didn't go this route because the only thing I wanted to install was the live wallpapers, but hopefully I should just be able to delete the other apps that I don't need.
Thanks for everyone who read, I'm posting my solution in case anyone else stumbles across this problem.
yeh had the same problem with the latest 2.1.0, worked a treat after restoring the missing apps. cheers
I have the same problem.I cant see the live wallpapers menu.
I downloaded the zip file from the link above that contains all the removed apps but it didnt work.
What should I do? I installed the visulizationwallpapers.apk but didnt fix the problem.
The other .odex file cant run.
Any ideas?

Click to collapse
For deleting unwanted apps just open the zip file, navigate to /system/app and wipe out all apks/odex files you don't need.
CWM Recovery have an option to fix permissions - give it a try
Are you using 1.5 or 2.1? Let me know if this works for you.
I've been attempting to do some modifying on the status bar recently with zero results. After unsuccessful attempts with Rom Toolbox and Ninjamorph, I decided to try out this method.
Steps I took: extracted the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk, uploaded them to the Kitchen server. Then, I went to work on all my customizing, which took a fairly long while, got it just the way I liked and submitted the finishings. I did a Nandroid backup, just in case. Using twrp, I flashed the UOT .zip file which says completed, but it also says FAILED. I made multiple attempts. Not sure why it kept failing, because I did check the summary page in UOT and everything came up green as to be good to go. I modified the battery and wifi icons, volume slider colors, other interface colors, etc. Nothing at all has changed, so I'm assuming the flash really did fail. The only thing I've ever been to successfully change was the battery icon, and that was done previously with rom toolbox. Nothing else will change. I'm not interested in using any of those worthless apps that just overlay a new icon instead of actually replacing it. They don't work well and are very glitchy.
Has anyone had success with this? Does it have anything to do with me using Kinology? Is there something else I need to do with the .zip file before flashing?
No one knows if UOT Kitchen will work with Kinology?
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum so excuse me if this isn't the right section to post my problem.
so I tried to change the theme of my Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 after I install a custom ROM in it, so I installed ROM toolbox Lite and I tried to change the phone's theme from there but it didn't work, after that I searched for some apps (I thought that my phone needed those apps to apply the themes from ROM Toolbox Lite) apps like : Theme chooser ,Theme changer, Theme manager and I kept rebooting each time I installed a theme thinking that what must be done so my phone can load it. but nothing changed, so after some searching on google I found a topic in this forum that has some APK files to choose from to change the phone's theme and it must replace Touchwiz30.apk in the System/app directory and give it the permission to write , read and read but I didn't find it with that exact name ,in my case it was called TouchSpaceWiz50.apk so I deleted it and went and tried to replace it with the one I've downloaded except I couldn't give it the permission and I got an error message that says I can't change some system files permissions.
so I ended up without the file TouchSpaceWiz50.apk in my System/app directory not to mention that I wasn't able to go to the home screen.
so I turned off the phone and on again only to find out that the phone is frozen on the boot animation screen, it doesn't keep rebooting just stuck at the boot animation that keeps playing.
I was able to fix this problem by re-installing the custom ROM from my SD-Card. but the main questions is why I wasn't able to change the theme via ROM Toolbox Lite when I have a custom Rom that includes ThemeChooser? and why the other apps didn't work as well? and is there another way to install themes? because I wasn't able to find any. and thanks in advance.
I am sorry if my post is so long I just wanted to explain what happened in details.
