There is no option to turn off camera shutter sound in stock Camera.apk included in Rocket ROM v22 Galaxy Note...
Has any one been able to turn it off without putting phone in Silent mode????
Remove or rename shutter_01.ogg found here
System/media/audio/ui
How do I do this?
I'm using Root Explorer, and it says that the file is a read-only file. So how do I do?

Ok here we go. I know it is very annoying sound
Follow these:
1. Run the ES File Explorer app
2. Go to ES File Explorer settings and check on 'Upto The Root'. Also make sure check is on for 'Root Explorer', 'Mount File System' under Root settings.
3. Tap UP.
4. Scroll down and tap SYSTEM.
5. Tap MEDIA.
6. Tap AUDIO.
7. Tap UI.
8. Long tap on camera_click.ogg until Operations pop-up appears, and then tap rename.
9. Rename it into camera_click.ogg.off
That’s it. Congo Man!! So now you should have disabled the camera sounds. Well for letting you know the procedure I switched mine too
Now lets see the fruits of labor. Open your camera app (whichever you use) and click a pic and even if you’re not in silent mode, your camera shutter will not make any sound .
If one fine day you miss that irritating shutter sound and decided to enable it again, just perform the steps above and rename the camera_click.ogg.off into camera_click.ogg.
Hope you would have got the steps. Damn, my fingies hurt typing long
Anyways, good luck !
How about the focus sound?

haven't used root explorer but in es file explorer there's an option to mount everything as read/write. by default you can only view the files not on your sd card, i expect root explorer may have the same setting somewhere.
just a warning, i wasn't able to find the "focus" sound anywhere. i was able to mute everything, except the little double beep that you hear when the camera focuses, which was a bit of a pain so i just put everything back as it was.

Download Blade Buddy from the play store.
There's no camera sound option, not sure if it works on ICS.
You need to be rooted.

I'm currently running the CM9 nightlies and just thought I'd add that both the camera shutter and focus sounds can be found as ogg files in the system/media/audio/ui folder. I renamed them both and it works fine.

Deleted the file?
Ok, there might be some glitch. Do a wipe cache (only if you are on stable ICS) and try to do it again (the steps i gave).
If nothing works use this: CAMERA ICS from Moblynx
Here is a read about features (if you like to go through, then you can)
Color effects (mono,sepia,negative,...)
Silent mode (no shutter sound, might not work on some devices)
Picture quality setting (low/medium/high/ultra)
Video bitrate selection (normal/2x)
Video stabilization on/off (only 4.0)
720p face effects (only 4.0)
Panorama mode and time-lapse video on Honeycomb tablets
Ok, click here for the play link.

I don't know anythink about the YouTube HD app but the basic Youtube app allow to see in "normal quality" and "high quality".
I'm not sure that the HTC Magic is capable of playing 1280x720 video ... on his 480x320 screen.

Copy the *.apk to your sd-card and open the file with ASTRO. ASTRO is a free application that can be found on Market. This application can do much more that just install applications from a file (apk), it's recomended to have this app
Thanks for the file!
Oh damn, I've been waiting for this. I'll give this a try!
Edit: Doesn't work.
I guess wishing for HQ vids over 3G/HSDPA is still a dream... no pun intended =/
This worked flawlessly on my Archos 5 Android, thanks.
is this the same as selecting high quality in the original YouTube application?

how did you get it working?? I'm having trouble getting it to run in the archos 5 android.
little tutorial maybe...?
are you guys serious? there is an option in the regular youtube app to select a higher quality. so i dont really see the need for this apk??? Im not trying to be mean by any means though. Just saying some people might have been a little misinformed
I think people are wanting to watch the videos in high definition, rather than high quality.
well as someone stated before our devices wont play higher than 430x320 res
anyone knows why i could only chose normal or high quality only when i am on wifi connection but not 3G??
(windows) search "folder options" > '"veiw tab" > make sure "hide extensions for known file types " is UNchecked..... rename "youtube.zip" into "youtube.apk
Does anyone have a youtube.apk that defaults to playing the normal (low) quality version of the video. I want to use it on a Eken tablet pc but it doesnt like the high quality videos freezes on the first frame even though sound continues but low quality setting plays ok
Download the zip
Extract the apk
Put it in your sdk tools folder
open command prompt
Navigate to your sdk tools folder
connect your phone via usb
type in command prompt:
adb remount
adb push YouTube.apk /system/app/YouTube.apk
Voila! It works, atleast these steps worked for me..
// Note: Thats how you get it on your phone..
Still doesnt default to highquality
I downloaded the Gingerbread .apk from this forum but Rootexplorer says the install is blocked. So...
1) Is the gingerbread .apk going to give me full screen high quality youtube video? Or will I just get crappy cellphone video?
2) How do I install the .apk...if it is what I was actually looking for, of course.
I have the youtube app that came with autonooter but like I said above, even the HQ setting is bad.
from what I understand, DSP isn't working in gingerbread or honeycomb on the nook as of yet so no HQ video will play until they figure it out.

Wait what?? you downloaded the Gingerbread APK? file... I'm pretty sure that what you have there is the Gingerbread Keyboard Ripped to work on 2.1 and 2.2.......
and right now what you have is the best performing Youtube there is. If you are having issues with quality then its the youtube videos you are watching.....
Also it already does Full Screen... just rotate your device....
To answer your 2nd question, you will need to enable "Non-Market" Apps install. and then either Push the file to your device with ADB, or just put it on a SD card and open it with root explorer or another file explore program.
You can get to the applications settings by going to Nooktools app that came with autonooter, and going to all settings then to applications then you should see the option to enable "non Market installs"

Some confusion there. I pulled the gingerbread youtube apk from a thread around here on youtube that wouldn't run at all, hoping it would work. I downloaded it from my Nook so that must be why its blocked. Either way its not going to help. I'll just wait for an update.
And yes, I have turned it sideways....come on. I meant full screen HD.

Dig around for the file named "signed_YouTube.apk". This will play HQ vids properly on nook color eclair. You can run it from sdcard/system/app. If you get an installation error, open nook color tools and toggle Allow non market apps on and off then try again
Will do. Thanks.
Edit: That was the file i downloaded. I moved it to the sd card root and it installed. Not sure its any different but at least i know im current on the apk. Thanks again.

Another tip, in YouTube settings set it to start High Quality on mobile. This will default to HQ video when available. Look for videos in HD and tilt to landscape view. The video will take a few moments to buffer and start but then you can skip through it freely.
Howdy All!
I'm about to take a trip to Alaska and will be taking my Nook Color along to watch movies during flights. It's running CM7 with the beta .32 kernel. I think it'll be loud enough on the plane (I will be using active noise canceling headphones), but I'd like to know what options there are for boosting volume just in case.
I see that there is a built in DSP Manager and one can simply set it to +10 on each section. Is this the best way to boost volume? I noticed in CM Settings there is a a way to boost attenuation for ringtones, notifications, etc, but nothing for media volume.
Thanks!
I'm using volume + available here.........http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread/download
It's been working well for me.
Oh Wow! Volume + is amazing. Thank You.

Glad to help.
Thank you for your recommended.
One thing to note. If you are using headphones, you may think you need to adjust the "Headset Settings" in Volume +. Changing this will do nothing. The "Speaker Settings" will adjust both the built-in speakers as well as any headset you plug into the headset jack.
Thanks!
THanks a lot !
Volume+ is perfect. Thanks so much for the recommendation. It's working great on my Droid phone, too.
How does volume+ compare to DSP Manager which is included in CM7?
This app is GREAT........
Sent from my NookColor using XDA Premium App
DSP manager has superior EQ control IMO but volume + is MEGA GOOD! I had no idea we would ever be able to have an app to do that. Now I don't have to re encode all my low volume videos. I tried running both together but they crash each other.
Can't wait to give this app a try. I just had my first long trip on a plane with my nook and with noise canceling headphones the volume was just about right. Although at times I could have used one or two more volume nudges up.
I have got to be missing something, but when I downloaded the "apk," I got a zipped file containing some files and two folders, and one of the two folders contains a bunch of folders.
How do I install this on my nook color running CM7?

I must assume your using safari? Try looking in your downloads folder for the original .apk Safari tends to unzip things that dont need unzipped.

Thanks, but it really is a .zip file. I thought that too until file explorer on my nook wanted to unzip it. Then I went to my PC and unzipped it and that's when I got all the files. It is not an .apk. I checked that out. I'm puzzled. Why would a .zip file be put at the link location for downloading?
Using Opera browser and im also getting a .zip file.
Ok IE browser gave .apk file.
Will this only work for Gingerbread? How about rooted stock 1.1

Dalingrin has created a program for the Nook Color, just for this purpose.

Try hide it pro from the market
try create a folder starting with a dot, like: .photos.
and put the pictures there...
In the folder where you want to store and hide photos create a file called .nomedia then move the photos into the folder.
If you add the .nomedia file to an existing folder you may need to wipe Gallery data before it takes effect. Works on Sammy and HTC, haven't tried it myself on Sony.
OR, if rooted, get LUKS Manager from the market. Works like Windows Truecrypt.

Or you can download quickpic app to hid the folders for you..
it actually only create .nomedia file for you..
Install 'hide it pro' app downloading via Google play store, its free and after installation it will be renamed as audio manager, and tapping at 'audio manger' you will be able to install your password and you can view your hidden photos, videos. You can encrypt your data also.
And if you have root acess, you can hide your app downloading its plugin, located at advanced settings. Then you can launch your app calling @ ##yourpassword .

I tried Hide It Pro but prefer LUKS. Hide It just seems to change the name of your file and copy it to an obscure location, but you can still find it with a file explorer. I didn't try the encryption but it looked to me like it would only encrypt individual file(s)?
With LUKS, you create a password-protected encrypted volume (can take a while) and then you mount it. Once the volume is mounted it looks like a regular folder. You can create whatever folders you want and just cut/paste any filetype into it. Encryption is on the fly so you don't need to encrypt/decrypt files. In any file explorer, browse to a file in the volume, double-click and the file opens....pictures, music, videos, spreadsheets, text files etc, all open transparently out of the mounted volume. When you dismount the volume you cannot see inside it.
Tried changing a name of an existing folder to .saved and the folder disappear completely ?? any reason why this happened?
And tried creating a new one with .pvt ,sadly this not work, ast the folder created cant be seen?anyone experienced this problem before?
Just to clear the matter, lady friend sent me a bikini photo, not porn or any sort but since the album shows all on the Z, had a lot people want to check my phone out scanning through my photos etc which made me wonder if there is an app to ensure privacy.
Hide It Pro works well Thanks guys!! :good:
When I select Timeshift-Video from the camera options and record a video (no matter to internal or class 10 SD card), it indeed does record a video and the small thumbnail also shows "120f" after saving. But then playback is just like any other regular video, that is, in real time. Hence, no timeshift/slow-motion anywhere. Further, I don't get this -well, how to describe it- settings circle on the screen for playback adjustments I used to see on the Z2.
Phone is stock (BL locked) with FW .98 DE. Anyone experienced the same issue or is that just me? Any hints appreciated.
I have the same problem. I tried internal memory an sd card, its just not working.

Exactly, that's how it should normally work, but it doesn't on my phone. Also, there's no edit button anywhere, only on photos.
What FW version/build do you have installed? Maybe that's something that got fixed in .105 (I'm on .98)?
23.0.A.2.93 is my version. Same problem mine does not have a edit button. Only star and trashcan buttons are available.
Finally figured it out...
Check for App "Movie Creator" to actually appear twice under Settings-> Apps -> All.
Movie Creator 1.3.A.0.11
Movie Creator 2.0.A.0.10
Now, since I did not want these great automatic movies to get created thereby filling up (if only a bit) my precious storage, I disabled both of them.
That was one too much
(Re-)Enabling the one with the older version alone (Movie Creator 1.3.A.0.11) brings back full functionality of Timeshift Videos.
However, why Sony has tied these together (Timeshift Videos and Movie Creator) is beyond me...
Excellent!
THANKTHANKTHANK THANK I LOVE !! fix it
for me the Movie Creator wont show the 120 fps video and when i am in the video i cant press "edit". it wont show at all
so is there another way to watch those 120 fps in slowmo? on pc? on the device with another videoplayer perhaps?
