I'm currently using Skyfire as my browser. The only other browser I've tried is Explorer. I have one complaint though. When you click on a link to a media file, Skyfire sometimes automatically starts playing the song, video clip, etc. and at other times it gives you the option to download the file to your phone's main memory or to your memory card. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. I would prefer to download the files and watch them later. Unfortunately, the only type of file you can manually download using Skyfire's menu is an image file. There has to be a tweak or a work around. Skyfire can download small files really fast (when it wants to), and I really enjoy this browser other than this one major drawback.
If there is a browser that will let you CHOOSE whether you want to play the media file within the browser or download it to your phone to play later, please let me know. I'd be willing to pay for it. I was reading on the Opera website, but I got the feeling it will only manually download images and not other types of media files, similar to Skyfire.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I am new to the world of mobile internet. I'm wanting to save NCAA basketball video highlight clips (mainly mpg and wmv) to my storage card, so that I can impress my friends.
Use opera 9.5 built QVGA

Installed Opera. Keyboard issues...
I like Opera. It responds well when using touchscreen, but it doesn't like the keyboard controls on my tilt at all. Is there a tutorial or a setting I need to change? Also, when I installed Skyfire, I made it the default browser. Is there a way to make Opera the default browser? Is there a setting like in the menu of Skyfire? Finally, someone warned (in another forum) that this version of Opera cannot be uninstalled once you have installed it on your phone. I haven't tried to uninstall it, but is that true? I was hoping to someday install Mobile Firefox and ditch my other browsers. I guess I would have to do a hard reset and start from scratch.
sorry this was a duplicated post so ive erased it

How does WMD work?
Sorry...lol...meant WVD. Would I have to use Explorer to utilize it?
Hi folks
So I am running a rooted Nook Color (thank you Autonooter!)
I have installed Overdrive both via the Android Market and also via the local library site in case there was a weird version issue. When I click to download an epub book from my library the browser instead of invoking Overdrive to download the book displays the URN information for the book download. There seems to be no way to get books downloaded. I tried making the default browser the Nook one vs using Dolphin HD but the same occurs.
I installed the same config on my Droid X and Overdrive kicked in and downloaded the book.
Anyone else tried checking out books via their library and had any success. I wonder if this is an issue due to rooting but wanted to get some feedback before resorting to going all the way back to stock (I just got this thing configured how I wanted it too!)
Thanks for any insight!
Chris

I am a heavy overdrive user for both epub books and audio books.
I can download epub books to my android phone just fine, but i have to download the books to my nook via Adobe digital editions on my laptop.
They show up under My Files in the NC library.
Make sure to register your adobe de onlineon your PC and on your NC.
Please post if you need further help.
It Works...
The text stuff that you see is the text of the associated ascm file in Overdrive. Do the following:
I am using the following method on a rooted NC and using either Aldiko or Overdrive Media Console with no probs whatsoever. I use these because I like to read my epubs in landscape mode and for some totally inexplicable reason the BN reader can't do this!
You must have Astro File Manager installed (free in the Market). Astro allows you to add new file extensions by the following preferences:
Astro settings>Data>Edit File Extensions>New
Extension Name: epub (no period)
MIME Type: application
Subtype: epub
Then Save
Now when you double-click on the ebook file it will ask for whatever reading program you want to use to read, i.e., the reading app that is on your Nook Color. If you have Desktop Visualizer installed (also free in the Market) you can even make a shortcut for your book on your [rooted] Home Screen, e.g., I am using Zeam launcher for my home screen.
That sounded promising but it looks like I am just getting the URN/URL for the eBook and not the actual file downloading so the association does not seem to work. I currently have the default browser set rather than Dolphin but both behaved in the same manner.
Any other ideas? Am I missing something else.
Thanks for the response I'm really looking forward to getting this working!
EDIT: I also rebooted afterwards in case it needed a fresh boot for the new extension

In the text/ address that I see when clicking download the book I saw application/epub+zip so I tried editing the epub extension via Astaro to try that vs just application/epub
Did not make a difference. Agh!
I wish I could cut and paste the screen/text to better show what I am getting.

In the browser (I use Dolphin) go to "More>Save Page or Save" and save the text - then click on it w/Astro. You want to save the actual text, not the URL
IYep, that worked for me. The only hang up left for me is the fact that books downloaded directly to the NC can't be read with the book's reading app. It does not recognize the drm like it does if they are sideloaded from a PC running adobe digital editions. Can that be corrected?
Ok got the epub files working but via adding another extension type of ascm so that this kicked in the Overdrive application. I then tried to download a drm'd PDF file as the other book I wanted happened to be in this format- this one fails as Overdrive says it cannot open/read the PDF file format.
Man this seems to be a very haphazzard way to get at content - I am a PC tech so wonder what chance Joe Public stands!!
Thanks for the extensions pointer that's got me almost there!

Can somebody please help me with setting up overdrive to associate with ACSM files? I installed Astro File Manager, but what do I choose for subtype and type?
I still can't het my library books to work with overdrive. I have overdrive installed. I have it authorized for Adobe Digital Editions. When I go download a book from my local library, I get a text file in my browser. I have saved it, and it has extension acsm, but I can't seem to be able to do anything with it.
Please help!
Thanks!
I fixed my problem (partially). I deleted the acsm file assocation I had entered in Astro File Manager. Next time I clicked on a downloaded acsm file, Overdrive Media was launched and it worked.
The only issue now is: how come I cannot launch overdrive media from the browser (stock, or Dolphin HD), when I click on an acsm file download link?
As it stands, I have to download the acsm file (save it), and then open it in Astro.
I was experiencing broken/green flash videos with MIUI.
At first I set permission to 000 for /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/config.data
This does the trick for some devices, but not for the 2X (at least for mine).
So, instead I set the config.data like this:
DeviceCert=1
HeapSoftLimit=120
HeapHardLimit=150
HwH264=bp:108000,15;mp:108000,15;hp:108000,15;
ProductVer=11.0.1.x
In practice, I changed the fps to 15 and now the videos play fine!
Remember to give again permissions to the file if you have changed them!
It works for every browser, just change this folder in the path: /data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins
Awesome!
But for a total noob, how would one go about changing the permissions?
Using ADB, i'd guess?

The easiest way is probably through rootexplorer..
You can change files permissions from ADB shell, or from a terminal emulator on the device by using the command "chmod nnn" where "n" are numbers from 0 to 7.
For example 777 give all permissions to all users, while 000 to nobody (except root).
Or you can simply use a root explorer program on the device
Hey,is it necessary to edit this for each browser?
If yes,I can't find the folder of dolphin browser.
BTW,is it limit the video on 15fps?
I think dolphin folder is something like "mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser"
For the fps I don't think the framerate is limited to 15 fps.
From adobe site:
A frame rate of 30 or 25 fps often overwhelms Flash Player. If the video is recorded at 29.97 or 30 fps, use a frame rate of 15 fps

When i try to edit the config data file with root explorer its blank... There aren't any letters, what am I doing wrong?

I know it's strange...but through ADB you can see file content...must be some kind of root explorer bug.
Try this: remove all config.data permissions.
Now you can edit the file through root explorer.
Save and set again permissions (give them all if you don't remember).
You're good to go.
Thank you SO MUCH for this fix! Works like a charm now.
Finally in can watch StarCraft 2 streams on Twitch.tv!
Thank you very much!
Videos in stock browser seems to work now!
But I could not activate the trick for Opera Mobile (which is far smoother and usable than stock browser...).
The similar folder in opera should be
/data/data/com.opera.browser/plugins_data/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player
in this folder there are the same directories "#SharedObjects" and "adobe.com" like in stock browser, but there is no "config.data" file.
So I copied the same file here, restarted everything.. butthe videos are still corrupted with opera
I'm sorry to say that probably Opera doesn't support config.data file
I tell you this because in the devices for which revoking permissions to config.data solved the problem, Opera seemed to work!
I've tested this solution so far only for stock browser and Dolphin HD.
No video bug has made it onto stock firmware.
After upgrading to Cyanogenmod 7.1 on Desire Z (g2/vision) and finding iplayer would only play audio I have done pretty much everything in this thread.
The best I managed was a forced downgrade of flash to 10.something and just ignore all the "update available" messages. I still can't play live TV, but recorded programs are okay. Frame rate isn't as high as it could be, but at least it works.
I resigned myself to this and thought about going back to stock or wait for CM9. Given all the problems I had getting notification lights and GPS to work on my "supported" Desire Z with CM7.1 I'm not holding out much hope of CM9 resolving more problems than it causes, so stock was sounding tempting...
Then the other day my other half was offered an Stock OTA gingerbread update for her Desire HD (2.3.5 I think). Guess what, her iplayer doesn't play video now either! Her flash is up to date (11).
Hopefully this is good news for the rest of us, if mainstream firmware isn't working on iplayer then they are going to have to do something about it. I'll make sure she places a suitable 1 star review against the app on the market.
Thank you,it works very well.

Hope everyone has had a nice holiday season so far. I got a shiny new XOOM as a gift and I was wondering what the best file manager for it would be since it does not have one stock. I have Astro installed right now. I would like to keep stock firmware but I am willing and know how to side load apps. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Definitely FileManager HD or ES File Explorer
File Manager HD works perfect for me and allows me to stream movies on my home network when used in conjunction with a capable video player.
Es File explorer. Especially now I know it also makes the external card write able via its settings. Great for moving files, viewing videos over Lan as well.

I've tried about all of them. File manager HD is the best, and has good root exploring, plus pretty good compression and unzipping with Bluetooth sharing.
There's two "File Manager HD" programs in the market... are you guys talking about the one by Rhythm Software or XUFEIFENG?
I believe the one everyone is referring to is rhythm software. At least that's the one I use and I rather like it.
Antek File Manager is quite good. Lots of options, freezing apps etc.
As you can tell from the responses there is no best. I use four different ones. So look them over and choose what your needs call for.

Astro file manager with the SMB plugin is nice. It allows me to access fileshares on my network as well as locally.
File Manager HD is also great.
File Manager HD for most navigation.
Root Explorer for root stuff.
AndroZip for handling zip files.
Anyone having this problem? Youtube 2.3.4 runs fine, but if I select a video to upload I get a force close. I've tried just long press and share and it still crashes. Yes I'm signed in to my Youtube app. I've reboot system. I guess if no one else is having this issue I can reinstall Eclipse 2.1 image.
Videos are 5MB to 12MB taken with Bionic camera and Screencast app. Both in MP4 format and over wifi or 4G and using ES File Explorer or File Manager. FC every time.
Can't uninstall/reinstall app cause its ROM installed, any ideas?
Happens to me too, I'm running theory ROM would love know if there's A fix our something for this..

I was able to upload by using Opera and going directly to Youtube and switching to desktop. After a little research the FC issue is common for other ROMS. Youtube not making effort to fix crap_app.
