Does anyone knows if it's possible to disable the emotions in the default ICS messaging app? Because I really don't like them..

Believe it's in SystemUI.apk. You will have to decompile it.
I forgot the exact location, but in one of the hdmi/mdpi etc folders, you will find icons for all the emoticons of that rom. Change them to transparent ones or regular emoticons and that should do the trick.

My fault, I pointed you to the wrong file earlier. Just looked over again. For ICS, it is in framework-res.apk under /res/drawable-hdpi/
the files are emo_*.png
You can try dragging and dropping new emoticons in. If you have problems after doing this (like android doesn't work correctly) then it's probably because you'll have to decompile and recompile it.
I don't have time to do that for you, but you can learn very easily if you take the time to read and do it:

Pretty straightforward:
1) Open an graphics editing application on the desktop
2) erase the image
3) Use the text tool
4) Type ": )" to replace
5) Save the file
6) Put it back in the apk or compile with it and you are done.
You should try it first. It's not really that difficult..
I'll try it tonight and post wheter it worked or didn't work.
One last question, after I've editted the apk, how do I install it on my phone so the old one is removed? Just overwrite the old one?
This will sound very weird, I found all the smiley files, but the smiley I really wanted to delete isn't there...
I'm looking for the smiley that appears when you type "<3" but it just isn't there...
Feels good to know that I'm not the only one who wants to delete it!

How long should it take to apply the framework-res.apk? It doesn't seem to want to take. I'm going to let it run for awhile. Any suggestions?
It shouldn't take very long, at least it doesn't for me. I am running ELB V2.7 if it makes any difference.
I'm also running ELB 2.7. I'm sure I'm missing a step or something. Can you give me a run down of how you applied the theme so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong? I'm at a loss here.

I backed up. Ran metamorph picked the XML and applied all the .apks Maybe if you apply the framework apart from the rest.
I tried that, it just sits there and spools. I think I might try with a fresh flash of elb 2.7 and see if that works. can you post a md5 checksum so I can make sure I have the correct file. Thanks.

How would I go about doing that?
The name of the one I use is md5summer. There are others out there too. Just google and download. It's a free file. This is a good habit to have when flashing ROM's too. Usually the dev will post the md5 so you can make sure you didn't lose any info during the download.
Using White Widow, everything applied on first go from what I can tell. I really like the theme!

Does your zip contain both a .thm and .xml extension? If not maybe do this as some users still use the old format.

Feel free to use some of the .png and use it in your own theme.
If you don't know what i'm talking about. Try to unpack these framework-res.apk with 7zip or winrar. And see all the .png in there.
You can start from "drawable-mdpi" folder inside that .apk
Then please share with us, if you already make your own theme.

If I look in to the framework folder since rls 12 -i haven't try rls 11, they use the same services.jar, so i would say this theme would be compatible with every rls after that, if there's something different with the next release, i will update it later.
But if you use this theme in incubus rls 10.5, i'm affraid you'll gonna have some rare random restart. Thats because the conflict of googleserviceframework.apk with this theme.

Extract the "shutdown" folder from the zip file and copy it into your /system/media/video folder.
You should backup and/or delete your current shutdown folder to prevent the folders from merging.
Thats pretty cool but just remember the CRT animation is for putting the phone to sleep on the Nexus S which is what people really wanted for the Captivate. GJ though!
Looks good. I will try this out soon.
@flashman - there is no way this can be put as sleep animation. That animation in 2.3 is pretty deep inside the framework and very hard implement on 2.2 (at least for now).
How exactly would I insert this. I'm using droid explorer and managed to back up my previous Shutdown folder. But when I try to then delete my old one it doesn't delete. It wont let me delete the old shutdown or add this animation to the system folder. Am I doing something wrong?
nvm, got it done through root explorer, great work!

Uhhh, yeah. I know that. I was merely stating that people want the CRT as the sleep animation. I have followed the request thread and know that is pretty much a dead thread.
Not to step on your toes...but here is the crt shutdown I madefor the Phoenix rom. This was my prototype without the Phoenix logo. This can be flashed with cwm, however you will want to go into the system/media/shutdown folder and delete the previous files. If you don't you will get the remainder of your previous shutdown when this is finished.

...and just let me know if this is thread hijacking and I will remove link if op desires.

Decompile the systemui. Find the 2 xml's listed above in the res/drawable folder. Edit the xml to show all charge rates 0-100 in both xml's (suggest notepad ++). Add the battery images in the res/drawable-hdpi folder. Recompile, do not sign. Push the edited systemui to the phone.
you have to decompile systemui.apk then substitute or edit those two xmls mentioned above and add the missing % png icons, then recompile the apk. if you want i can upload a ready pack tomorrow.. then you'll just change the icons to your needs
