[Q] USB host/OTG - which kernel for CM9 b17? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
please recommend kernel that supports USB host and doesn't break anything else. Other that that, I'm happy with stock b17 kernel, battery life is great on wifi (less than 1%/hour idle). Unfortunately stock kernel doesn't support USB host mode.

Glitch? Frankly I can't tell the difference between most of the kernels. I am just using Glitch because I used it on CM7.

[Discontinue][no wifi n][default 518][fix hotspot] kernel based on CM7 & HCDRJacob's
The kernels based on source from CM7 & HCDR Jacob's v4.2. I built the kernels to resolve wifi drop due to my 'bad' router, which i had, is not compatible with wifi N mode of wildfire. Here is the sharing for those have facing similar issue with 'bad' router.
The following are the changes made:
Disable Wifi N mode (included in all mod changed kernels)
Boot up with default max 518MHz and min 245Mhz cpu frequency (included in all HCDR mod changed)
Apply same configuration as v4.1 to wifi driver, should be compatible with most froyo ROMs (included in HCDR mc2)
wifi hotspot fix for Sense ROM. (included in nFinity mc2/3)
update frequency table from #40. 480MHz return and 19MHz go away. (included in nFinity mc3)
Fixed FM Radio with Sense. (included in nFinity mc4)
Merged from based: add smaller footprint TinyRCU. Add missing cache routine. (included in nFinity mc4)
Out of curiosity, i compiled kernel from CM7.1.0.1 with wifi N disabled. Not tested on Sense rom(buzz-kernel-2.6.35mc1.zip)
Known issue:
FM radio will cripple the system on Sense ROM with nFinity mc# kernel.
LED sometime won't blink when receive messages.
Note: Only nFinity mod change 2+ has the wifi hotspot fixed for Sense ROM. Other kernels may has the infamous wifi hotspot issues.
HCDR mod change 1 is recommended for CM7 RC2 user. It seems much smoother.
Arco's nFinity kernel mod change 1 is for CM7 RC4+ only.
nFinity kernel mod change 2+ based on CM7 final.(Make sure is not flash from HCDR kernel.) Enjoy smartass governor with your Sense ROM
Credits to arco68's (CM7) & Jacob's (HCDR) team for the base kernel..
It is regretful that I have to stop this kernel development as my wildfire is given to my family. It was fun when I start to work on this kernel. Thank you for those who supported this kernel.
I would recommended the kernel from DK Custom if you looking for alternative kernel for Sense.
Shared my modded new kernel. So far seems working well on my phone with dk's sense rom but i yet test if it working well on cm7.
Enjoy smartass governor and overclock without breaking wifi hotspot on your sense rom.
this is perfect.
What do you mean by bad router? I'm using CM7 and lately I only get 1-2 bar on wifi signal (normally I got almost full bar). Is that how you define 'bad'?
CM7's kernel default setting should be using lower power profile for wifi to save battery power. That may be the reason that you getting less signal strength.
For my router, it is one of the first batch of Wifi-N mode product which known as draft N. This mode is not official spec, some of those routers has inferior design of Draft Wifi-N which maybe cause packet drop. For my case, i experience no wifi activity although with full bar. Hence, i reverted the driver to Wifi b/g only.
nFinity kernel mod change 2 based on CM7 final.(Make sure is not flash from HCDR kernel.

what do you mean by that?
i have cm7 stable installed and i want to install this kernel. which of these five kernels that are listed there should i choose?
and how to flash it, because you say that it mustn't be flashed with HCDR kernel installed or what? do i have to instal some other kernel(htc stock for example) before flashing or not?
thanks for the reply. you've done a great job, thats the thing i need.
If your on cm7 stable do not flash the HCDR kernel, you will break some features and there is no need the kernel in c7 is stable and smooth.

yes, but the wifi doesnt work on my belkin n-draft router!
@johensen: i tried froyo sense rom+ nFinity kernel mc2 and the wifi doesnt work
my brother has samsung galaxy tab with froyo 2.2 and wifi works normally with belkin draft-n router...
Because HDCR kernel version replace file which break interface to original driver. Hence it break compatible to other kernel unless u restore those file back.
Back to your issue, what is the symptom? It printed 'error' or can't detect or stuck at connecting?

I use DK Rom and nfinity mc3 kernel.
I have problem with fm radio.
It won't start
It started on my phone, but it seems to be some memory leak. I will look into it when I have time.
on belkin draft n router it says connecting... and then obtaining ip adress...and then disconnected.
on lynksys it connects to the router, but when i open the browser or something it just doesnt work, it says no network connection even though the wifi icon is showing connection.(the same story with linksys is on my brother's galaxy tab, but linksys works on sony vaio laptop. this linksys router also worked on my two android devices a month ago. now it isn't working on android devices, but works on sony vaio laptop, but i haven't changed nothing.)
i would be very happy if it worked on belkin draft n router, because i think it is possible to fix this, because on galaxy tab froyo 2.2. it works!
thank you for your work
@zelda89: Issue fixed in mc4 released.
@belakaca: Is the galaxy tab froyo 2.2 running on n mode? How about stock kernel? It has same problem too? I still scratching my head. Maybe you could double check your router setting.
I am using [email protected] #6 with Wildpuzzel ROM. I use standard Wifi and also ad-hoc wifi (pc-to-pc). It worked perfectly with both
On cm7 ROM I tried buzz-kernel-2.6.35 (available at cm7 nightly thread) but my mobile it failed to connect with ad-hoc Wifi. I think the issue is related to kernel and can be resolved with by flashing better kernel.
pleas suggest a better kernel for cm7 or any of nFinity kernels with strong wifi for cm7?
EDIT:
OK arco68 Just replied to mein CM7 thread about ad-hoc connection issue. it doesn't seems to relate with kernel but the ROM. Check this post for possible solution suggested by arco68
how do i overclock using this kernel?
I am using infinity mc4
EDIT: Found that I can use SetCPU to overclock.
Thanks a lot johnseen99 i just flashed HCDR.Kernel_v4.2mc1_Flashable.zip and it fixed BSSI (adhoc) wifi connectivity issue on CM7.
I was looking for solution for long time but did not flashed any kernel, I thought its problem with ROM.. Just got the idea to check if other CM7 supported kernel can resolve this problem.. and it worked.. great job!!
I cant recommend this kernel with froyo stock rom in any way. It makes my wildfire smotther but the battery almost dies in 18h prior 50h with stock kernel.
Thanks for your work anyway.
Does anyone else experience that the green notification light sometimes will stay on (instead of blinking) untill you select the new message or what so ever?
I don't know if it has to do with the smartass governor? i have kept minimum at 352mhz.
On HCDR kernel I didn't get the above...

[Q] intersectRaven's Kernel for CM6.1.1

Hi everybody,
I'm still on CM6, mostly because i want 720p recording, and i have to say that IR kernel give me about 30% more battery life compared to stock CM6 kernel.
Unfortunately I'm not able to use any of the last IR kernels.
If I try to install any of the 2.6.38 based kernel i get a bootloop, so I'm using the last based on 2.6.37 (31 march). With this kernel my battery life is very good, but I can't connect my N1 via USB... the notification does not appear... I think it's a bug.
The kernel I'd like to use actually is the last one at the time of this writing: 2.6.38.4_AVS-CM6_CFS_20110424_1137.ZIP
But even if it is marked as for CM6, i get a bootloop...
Anyone have the same problem? What is the best/last IR kernel for CM6?
Thank you very much and... sorry for my English
Zener79
Use 2.6.35 kernels, they're the last for Froyo, if I remember right. Look at the kernel version explanations in iR's thread, you'll see.
I'm using IR Kernel based on 2.6.37 and it's working fine, except for the USB problem.
What I don't understand it's why for each kernel release the developer still upload kernels for CM6 even if we can't use with Froyo...
I mean...
2.6.38.4_AVS-CM6_CFS_20110424_1137.ZIP it's supposed to be for CM6 and
2.6.38.4_AVS-CM7_CFS_20110424_1139.ZIP it's supposed to be for CM7
but the one for CM6 doesn't work with CM6...
Unfortunately I cannot post on development section, otherwise I would have asked him on the right thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653598

Yeah, it says that USB host is supported, but do you actually use this feature? I tried many kernels but never got the feature to work.

[Q] Kernel With Fastcharge Capabilities

Is there someone that knows a AOSP kernel (CM10.2 kernel) which just enables Fast Charge? This is the only setting I need. All the other Kernels available seem to have too many features and are all somewhat unstable.
Would really appreciate this.

Suggestions on what kernel to use.
