[Q] USB audio (phone and music) without a car dock - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hoping for some help/tips/ideas.
My car radio has a USB port that has an "aux" mode that is supposed to let me stream audio to it. I do not have a car dock.
My question is: how can I get my Cappy to stream audio, including call audio, via USB? I'm running an ICS ROM (Doc's Master ICS V5).
Any help/tips will be appreciated.

you have a couple different options here, to use the usb you will have to select media when you plug it in on your phone. For straight music playing just use a dual 3.5mm cord(same at both ends) and use the headphone jack and aux on the car deck. As for calling and such the only way to do that is if you have a bluetooth enabled stereo.

When I was in a car like that I streamed my music through USB I just connected the USB and put my cappy in USB mode and the car automatically went to reading the music files on my phone. I was running ICS too.

compatible car stereo (audio out through usb)

I'm looking into car stereos, and is there a way to get one with a usb port that I could do audio out of the phone through it?
Right now I have to cables needed for my phone in the car, power cable and headphones. I'm trying to see how I can eliminate the headphones, but still keep the ability to use my phone for music (while its charging). I keep my music on the internal storage (not SD), but also use Pandora or Audiogalaxy.
Also if there are any stereo units that can do this and have support for ipod of usb that would be great too.
almost every car stereo brand has one with usb ports but unfortunately I think you need one with an auxiliary out that will connect thru 3.5 mm headphone jack
edit: I think there might be some out there that have bluetooth for playing music actually

Check CrutchField.com and it should work just like you want. Go to best buy with your cable and plug into one of the HU's there and try it. Your music would need to be on the SD card and disk drive setup from the phone end I think

This means your phone will act as an USB thumb drive.. It may not be the same effect you want, but is a pretty good solution.
I use a nice sony head to stream the media audio to in my truck, often 8 or 10 hours a day, love it. A few head units will allow phone and audio seperately. The ability to connect bt headset and head unit to the phone is well worth the money if you spend much time driving
Pioneer offers many units that have the bluetooth built in that allow audio streaming and call interuption etc
I know in my 2011 Camaro i can do call audio and any audio on my Incredible (ie: music, sounds, games, videos all output audio via bluetooth since the radio acts as headphones) but of course were also talking about a stereo that has rare support for the Zune integrated right into the USB.
The sony in my 2011 freightliner does the media and phone seperately, phone can be connected to stereo and headset at the same time, mp3 thru the stereo and calls thru the headset. Even with the external mic for the stereo people got too much background noise. Car might be a little quieter inside tho

Anologue Audio? Spotify?

so in my car and on my surround sound i have usb ports which i can listen to music on - theres a problem. I have spotify and as there for use with spotify only i can use it through usb. Ive done a bit of research about a free pin at the bottom of the nexus one? could this be used to stream analogue audio through the usb cable?
if not would there be another way of playing that music?
thanks in advanced
EDIT: and i dont have a 3.5mm connector in my car or the surround sound
No, you can't. USB connection to sound systems doesn't stream analog audio, it's for sharing Mass Storage Device (USB flash, etc) that is read by the sound system and sound files on it are played.

[Q] Car dock & bluetooth audio ?

Hello
I recently bought the car dock for the Note. Bluetooth audio via ad2p work with my car stereo, but as soon as i put the phone in the dock, it doesn't. The audio defaults trough the line out of the dock witch i dont use. Anyone got a sulotion for this?
Reason you are unable to use is that the mobile gives more priority to the dock compared to your car stereo connection over BT (Physical connection over wireless connection, even your computer also does the same)
I would suggest you to plug a 3.5 mm audio cable form the dock to your car stereo so you still get what you want.
The reason i want to use BT audio is cause i can use the wheel to controll the phone. Can't do this trough line in/out.
You can simply change the automatic activation of voice command via Android settings / docking.

Connecting to a car stereo

Hi,
Trying to connect my Dell Streak 7 to my car stereo. However, it seems that it pairs - doesn't connect - and don't think it is connecting for audio - just calls. How can I be sure (Lexus SC430 2005).
If I cannot connect via native bluetooth to play audio from the Streak, how can I do this?
Thanks.

Does it not connect even after you pair if you click on it? Mine usually connects the first time after a boot, but doesn't automatically reconnect after the stereo has turned off and back on. Also at times it won't reconnect at all and the only solution is a reboot. Overall I'm not impressed with the bluetooth drivers on this thing (in honeycomb at least, haven't tried froyo or ics).
Unfortunately, the only other option is to use a 3.5mm adapter to your car stereo. If you do that, I'd suggest you use a ground loop isolator to eliminate feedback/humming (assuming it's power is plugged into the car cigarette lighter).

[Q] Car dock and USB audio?

I have the official HTC car dock, and while it fits great, looks great, and does its job, the USB cable doesn't seem to give me any capabilities except charging. Is there no USB audio capabilities through this cable? I tried connecting the phone while in the dock directly to my USB-in on my car's head unit, and there was no sound.
Is there a better way? I'm on CM10 and Bluetooth is a bit wonky, so any alternatives to connect my phone to play music through my stereo would be great. Any of them except using the headphone jack to connect to the AUX-in on my head unit. I want something line-level.
unfortunately there is nothing line level on android to my knowledge. everything is done on a line-less level: IE bluetooth. and even then if there were a line level way of playing music you're on CM10.1 so its going to be even more iffy
