Update 2:
Using Heimdall I flashed everything but the modem. I was able to boot stock Gingerbread 2.3.6, but (I suppose not unexpectedly) I had no network connection (SIM card is in).
I also got **** sorted out on my computer and was able to get Odin to detect my Cappy, but any Odin flashes hangs on either "Setup Connection.." (Odin 1.7) or "Set PIT file.." (One-Click Downloader).

Edit/Update:
Ran Heimdall anyways and it hung on modem.bin again. Here's the report:

I'll keep it short.
A few weeks back I successfully flashed my Captivate for the first time to Serendipity VII. Upon recently trying to flash it back to stock, I managed to bootloop my phone. After that I tried quite a few different things, ending on Odin hanging on modem.bin when trying to re-flash back to stock. I tried flashing just the modem.bin with Heimdall and managed to get it to 100% - after which it hanged for ~30 minutes. Decided to pull the plug and see if it worked (my first time using Heimdall so I didn't know what the final readout was supposed to look like) and I coulnd't boot the phone for the next few hours (not regular boot nor into Download mode). Finally I got it to boot into download mode, and now while my computer recognizes the phone, Odin does not.
On the upside, Heimdall seems to recognize the device. I really don't want to screw up my phone any more than it already is, so which firmware from this thread should I use?
Or, is the modem.bin situation a serious problem? I'd love to use Odin (for which I found several users experiencing similar problems) but none of the answers seem to involve Heimdall. Is there anything else I should be doing?
Thanks for reading.. all help is genuinely appreciated.

this is my 3rd full charge on a 2600mah seidio extended battery
with WIFI on and running 100% it lasted around 12 hours
with wifi off and running 49% (i guess all the gmail syncs), 98% on standby, didnt do nothing with it
it is at 2% now and has the uptime of 16:20...itll probably last another hour or so
i have super d 1.11 ram hack with swap on, apps2sd
i read on the battery reviews that their phones would last 24 hours easy with full use..
ive been leaving it 98% on standby with occassional checking on the battery and its surviving for a fraction of that, blue tooth off, brightness down, wifi off, gps off, on edge..
it will die within the next hour or so
cell standby: 49%
phone idle 46%
display 3%
android system 2%
16 hours and 20 minutes, with 2% left
is something wrong or what, i expected this battery to last at least 2 days when its on standby / idle over 90%
whats going on? is it the ram hack or the swap
the phone DOES shut off after an hour or two after it hits 2%, it does not keep running, so i cant see it being a calibration issue
but i expected from the reviews that it would last 2-3 days on standby at least
any opinions? or is what im seeing normal
I was looking at my battery info because I've been having issues with idle drain on this phone when it's not in use, and everything looked good for a change except for the fact that I went from 60% to 54% in a matter of minutes while using it. Then in a split second I suddenly get the chime sound letting me know my battery is low, and I see that it's at 2%. I installed cpuz and it says the battery temp is 34c and the health is good. Wtf???
Last night I lost 26% while sleeping. It's never been this bad except for the last few days. I did a factory reset and still no luck. According to device maintainance I don't see anything wrong. During my 7 hours of sleep.
Android system wasted 47mah
Device idle wasted 53mah
Cell standby wasted 59 mAh
And Android is 28%
That's 187 mAh lost over the 7 hours of sleep which resulted in 26% battery being lost. Is the phone not showing something? Am I missing something? If this is really the case that means my battery is around 1000mah capacity lol
I have seen that the indication of the access screen hours is often wrong. For example, it shows me 2 hours of screen time and I have 54% battery and then 1 hour and 40 and I have 48% battery
My mobile network battery usage says 14% for 5hrs 34 min ( I didn't talk on the phone longer than 1hr in total today) and phone idle is 12% for 11hrs 54 min. Is this normal?
