Windows rom - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Just wondering has anyone thought about cooking up windows for this phone

You know back in the windows mobile 6.xx days I was dual booting my HTC Tilt with Android, I've never really seen that anymore?

I have always wondered the same thing..
Back in the day before Apple used Pentium chips (prior to 2006 I think), dual booting on an Apple wasn't possible because of the chipset differences. Now because of the Pentium core, you can run iOS and Windows without a hitch. I always assumed that the reason there was never any Windows ports for the Vivid (or DHD) was because of a similiar problem... But it can't be, considering that Windows phones are using the Snapdragon chips also....
I was just playing with my friend's Win7 HTC and to be honest.... It's a pretty cool OS layout. I would definitely dual boot if I had the capability.
Kill

We would need S-off first, the amount of work needed would be hell... It wouldn't even boot too, we don't have graphic, radio, or dual core support in windows phone.

Really unlikely as there needs to be a device nearly identical to the vivid hardware wise however run windows phone 7

Windows on mobile is proprietary. Porting it to devices on which it was not originally installed is illegal for licencing reasons.
AFAIK.

AFAIK the only thing I've heard of is Andrinux, and that's on the Inspire and it only runs Ubuntu.

[Q] HD7 on AT&T

I know this has been beat to death, but of all the threads I've read the past few days one thing hasn't been clear to me. Is it hardware preventing AT&T from accessing 3G on the HD7 making it impossible for a way to ever make it work? I want to know because my friend on T-Mobile will buy this one from me and I'll just wait until the HD7S comes out. If not I'll hold on to this one a while longer. Thanks in advance

Yeah, it's a hardware limitation. Definitely wait for the AT&T version.

Is this like the the Inspire?

I had the inspire. Now the vivid. Would flashing an inspire rom work?

It is not the same thing. I would stick with the custom roms in the vivid development thread.
It could work with some tweaks but only if you know what you are doing.

Nope. Each phone is different. In time we will get to where the inspire is at. People are working on cm9 once that gets to beta there will be working cm7. In a month or 2 we will have a leaked ICS build from Bell or one of the other telecoms and people can start working on android 4.0 with Sense 3.5 or 4 whatever the use.

Each phone may run the Android OS, but the way the software interacts with the hardware is based on the hardware itself. It is possible, but unless you are a veteran dev I'd be careful. The phones are very different.
Sent from my HTC... 'nuff said.
Yeah, even though they are both HTC, they are two different phones with two different chipsets. So, a rom thats been developed for an inspire will not just install on to a vivid. It would have to be ported over. Kinda the same way that a rom for a Samsung Galaxy S will not work on a Galaxy S II, or a rom for a Galaxy S II will not work on a Galaxy S II Skyrocket.

[REQUEST] Windows Phone 7 or 8 for HTC Vivid

I would be interested in funding a dev for this project.

More options to choose from maybe?
I prefer to port a Sense4+ to our device than WP8 LOL. If you want WP together with Android, you need an HTC HD2. FuXXing large variety of ROMs.

I completely disagree. We have all the specs needed. All that remains is a willing dev. Nothing is impossible. Also, Launcher 8 is nowhere close.

At this point in time I believe all devs for this phone are devoting their time towards cm/pac/pa or sense 4.0+... But hey, if you want to learn how to dev

Exactly why i agreed to.it being.impossible...plus the fact that windows os is supppsdly picky on the devices it runs on

You would have kernel issues (different kernels, WP7 uses the Windows CE kernel, WP8 uses the NT kernel), hardware incompatibilities, security to deal with, and you'd be locked out of Microsoft services, among other issues. It's much more complicated than dealing with Android ROM ports, even with HTC's shoddy kernel work.
This really does not belong in the development section and as others have mentioned getting a windows based rom to run on a android phone would be almost impossible as a matter fact of all the phone forums I moderate I don't believe I've ever seen a windows rom for an android phone.
Thread closed since I don't see this as being a very productive thread.

Possibility of putting Windows Phone on the HTC One M8?

With the new Windows Phone HTC One M8 coming out (or possibly out already), would it be possible to put Windows Phone on the Android version?
With secure boot that seems a distant reality but maybe a conversion

We have a supposed "leak" of the Verizon HTC One M8 for Windows RUU, so it looks like there could be hope (at least for S-OFF users I think)
I moved this thread back to One Q&A since the moderating team decided that's where it belongs, but I'm closing it since we now have a single discussion thread for porting Windows Phone 8 to the current m8s. Please continue the discussion there.
Thanks,
