[Q] stuck at white htc screen - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Hi, im a noob here. so i got the ota update and wanted to get permroot. So i went to hasoon2000's thread to dl his tool. I followed it and unlocked my bootloader and then the next thing i did was flash a recovery. The only option on the tool was 5.5.0.4 and when i did, the phone restarted at stayed at the white htc screen for 15 min. What did i do wrong and how can i fix it?

Does bootloader start? If so, good.
Select fastboot, and plug your phone in
Flash your ROM's boot.img
Select bootloader
Select Recovery
Does recovery start? If so, good.
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache
Flash ROM
If something didn't work, let us know where it went wrong

Thanks homeslice976 for your advice.
I actually got a ics rom from the forums and got my phone working again. It seems to be a problem to all people using the toolkit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003&highlight=white&page=17
so a warning to all people with ota ics trying to get permroot, wait a bit for hasoon2000 to update his toolkit

fixed "stuck at HTC logo" issue
It appears to me that hasoon2000's tool is running the wrong batch file when you try to install CWM. Instead of pushing the CWM recovery, it is pushing the Holicakes boot.img file, which causes the phone to freeze at the white screen with the HTC logo upon reboot.
I tried pushing the stock boot.img file from Data\Kernels to the phone, with no success. Not sure if it is the wrong file, or if somethig else is the cause
I did manage to resolve the issue though, and this is what I did to fix it.
1. Reboot phone into fastboot mode and connect to USB
2. run "fastboot oem lock" to re-lock the bootloader
3. reboot back into fastboot
4. Download and run the latest stock RUU from HTC.
From here, you should be back up and running the stock firmware, with a locked bootloader and no recovery. To install CWM recovery, you first need to unlock the bootloader again.
1. Boot into fastoot
2. run "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin"
3. reboot back to fastboot
4. flash CWM with "fastboot flash recovery Recovery/recovery-cwm-vivid-5.5.0.4b2.img"
I ran all these commands with a command prompt inside the Data directory of hasoon2000's application.
Hope this helps others out there.

same thing
where did you get the latest stock ruu from hyc at i have been to their dev site and cannot find it for the life of me I have tried useing what i think is the old rom ph39img.zip and it tell me it cannot update due to it being the old version. i need the new stock ICS rom to flash and restore to factory, any hepl would be great.

You will have a recovery, it will be the HTC recovery. You would have to use fast boot commands to run cwm. It won't cause any problems if you don't do cwm. It is optional.

Looks like the toolkit was updated fyi

I know you tried flashing the recovery already, but I suggest you do it again, and first download it again; could be your download was corrupt.

I wouldn't listen to this guy, let alone flash a file he provided. The website he linked to even asks to not do just that.
Here is the link to the official TWRP page:
https://twrp.me/Devices/
You should be able to find every version for the m7 here.

I understand your concern but FYI these recoveries linked by the other guy are safe. Unofficial TWRP by MDmower are well known and sometime more reliable than the official twrp versions (depending which version) .

I changed my screen, volume board, charge port and battery so i will try this.
Had the same problem after screen replacement... Stuck in bootloop and it wouldn't boot to recovery. What i did, i was going to try universal TWRP but had to unlock bootloader. so after i pushed unlock_code.bin via fastboot and phone asked if i want to unlock bootloader, i said yes, phone rebooted to recovery mode with bunch of errors. just did factory reset and wiped data/cache in recovery, did reboot in recovery and after phone started to boot up normally. give it a go.

As a last resort you can try flashing a stock rom via fastboot. Only if you don't mind losing all your data but atleast you will have a working phone again. Just a heads up make sure to backup all the contents of your phone to the cloud or a computer in case something like this happens again.

Hey guys. I am in a pickle. I have an S-ON HTC Raider, Bell on stock Android 2.3.5. I flashed TWRP 2.4.4.0 and tried to flash CM 11 and it wouldnt boot porperly. I was told its because I needed to update to ICS bootloader first. So I relocked bootloater and downloaded Bell RUU.exe as well as the OTA.zip. I've tried both methods and they both dont work!
1. Flashed the OTA rom's boot.img in fastboot, then relocked bootloader then tried to flash the firmware via fastboot and it failed. (Later read you cant flash these types of things in fastboot, only stock recovery but I only have TWRP now)
2. Tried the more reliable RUU.exe method. Stuck at silver HTC screen, and the RUU is "sending" indefinetly. Stuck on sending, wont advance any further.
This is my wifes phone and I need to get it going ASAP. Can anyone please guide me? I will happily donate to anyone that can take the time to walk a noob through this. Thanks

Have you attempted to flash an older gingerbread rom? remember to flash the boot.img in fastboot. I only know of issues people have had with Bell and Rogers (on that note, you can try the rogers RUU).

Umm... I think somewhere in the forum there's a thread with the bootloaders as hboot zip files... They might work if the links aren't dead...
---------- Post added at 02:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:27 AM ----------
Your lucky I can't sleep...
Download the PH39IMG.ZIP from the bottom of this page... Either link
http://www.arykblog.com/2014/05/htc-vivid-recovery-and-eng-hboot.html
Put this file in the root directory of BOTH internal and external storage... Because I forget...
Then reboot to bootloader (power and vol -)
Then... HOPEFULLY... Watch magic...
Have TWRP 2.6.3.0 ready to flash and a ROM... PAC is current...
This should give you hboot 1.85.2525
Here's to hoping...

Can't OTA Update Relocked Phone

Today I unrooted my phone and relocked it so I could update my phone to 4.4.3 but every time I try to update it the phone will boot into fastboot mode and it reads "security warning" under where it says "Relocked". It does that every time I want to go to recovery.

You need a stock rom and stock recovery for the OTA to work.
I'm using both a stock rom and a stock recovery.
Why are you trying to boot into recovery if you have the stock recovery installed?

Might want to try installing the stock Android system recovery again (doesn't sound like you have a recovery installed at this point). Sounds like that's what your issue is. You can also use a RUU to get back to stock and then take the OTA update.
To run a RUU, would I need to unlock my bootloader again?

Well, I tried to run RUU and FUU and both of them failed. I can't get passed step 1. Can I install a custom recovery and try again?
Make sure the firmware version of the RUU matches what you have installed. If you need a reference hit the second link in my sig and scroll down to the section regarding Hboot versions.

How can i reinstall stock recovery rom. Is tbere any option to keep twrp and install new software version

I just got my sprint m8 hk edition 2 days ago, after which I htcdev unlocked, rooted, s-off'd(tried firewater got whelped) used sunshine successfully, flashed captain throwbacks latest twrp, then proceeded to debloat. After I got the notification for the 1.54.654.13 update I fastboot flashed back to stock hk recovery 1.54.654.9, and got that ota installed and only had to reroot was still s-off and unlocked. Fastboot flashed cap's twrp again, then I got the ota update for 1.54.654.15(didn't realize this thing needed so many updates, I now know I still have 2 or 3 more to go) So I flashed back to stock hk 1.54.654.13 recovery, tried installing 1.54.654.15 and it reboots and tries to install it makes it to about 25% then the pic of the phone gets a red triangle and I have to hold pwr and volume up to reboot. I've redownloaded and reflashed the stock hk 1.54.654.13 recovery multiple times as well as deleting the ota update and redownloading it 3 times to no avail same result every time. Soooo, my question is do I even need to update step by step? Or should I just download the latest firmware 2.16.654.4 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173 and install thru my pc. If so, I believe I need to relock my bootloader then ruu to 2.16.654.4. And last question, do I lose s-off by ruu'ing?

You do not lose S-OFF ever. Only way to go back to S-ON is by doing is manually.
I believe it was the first or second OTA but you had to be completely on the stock ROM (the OTA looked for certain .apks in folders and if you didn't have them [ie. you debloated] you can't OTA).
Since you're S-OFF just go flash the latest firmware (no need to relock and RUU).

You can get the firmware zip that doesn't have the new recovery so you don't have to reinstall recovery again either. If you don't have the H/K version it is this one you should download from OMJ's thread:

Not sure what to tell you about your Wi-Fi or SD card issue. Are you using a custom kernel? As far as the software version goes, that won't change by updating your firmware. That will only change by flashing a custom ROM. Software & firmware are not the same.

Please Help! Fastboot not flashing Recovery

I apologize in advance if this has been answered already.
Before you ask:
My bootloader is unlocked
My phone is bricked due to an update that caused processes and apps to crash and make the factory reset on stock recovery useless so I tried to downgrade from lollipop to kitkat. My aim is to see if a custom recovery will format the phone properly so that flashing the stock firmware works. I think it isn't working because my userdata and cache partitions may be corrupted or something because this is what I get when I try factory reset on stock recovery:
E: blkdiscard on partition /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata failed and E: blkdiscard on partition /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/cache failed.
I am thinking that I need a custom recovery but when I flash one and try and boot into recovery I end up with the stock recovery and no errors are given during the flash and the pink text that says "mismatched partition size" doesn't show up. When I run "fastboot erase all" it completes with no errors but doesn't seem to do anything so could fastboot be at fault? When I try booting it with "fastboot boot recovery.img" all i get is the Motorola logo flickering every second or so. Unless I can fix my phone without a custom recovery, I need help!!!
If any more information is needed I will try to provide but am somewhat of a noob. All responses are appreciated. Thanks
You need mfastboot to flash a stock firmware

I have been using mfastboot for both the firmware flash and for the custom recovery flash
I am having the same issue as well. I flash a custom recovery ... it says it flashes ok but I cannot enter recovery.
I too was getting the blinking Motorola logo. Had to power off and then turn back on to get the phone to boot up. I cannot relock my bootloader either !
This all happened when I returned to stock to get the official lollipop update. I was able to flash gpt.bin before that and flash recovery and everything but since I did the update I can't do much of anything.
I tried loading twrp just to get into it. That did work once but I don't know how it did it. I was able to do a backup and flash a custom rom but still can't get into twrp. I've tried fastboot and mfastboot many times over and still it says flash ok but I cannot enter twrp or any custom recovery.

I am thinking that I either need to flash an earlier version of twrp besides the 2860 that I'm trying to flash or relock then unlock the bootloader again, if I can. Not sure at this point but I'm going to continue to research and try something else.

Is it possible to put tempcwm.zip onto the internal memory so it can be booted through "apply update from sd card" as that is the next thing I'm going to try but don't know if it will be compatible. I tried to flash the lollipop firmware by xda member reefuge to see if that would do anything but it didn't. Perhaps it might work for you.

That's assuming you can get into any recovery !
I was able to "boot" into twrp using the Moto-G-2014-ToolKit. It appears to be rom related - "Quantum-OS. I just recently installed Candy5 and have no problems rebooting into recovery whether from the phone or from ADB command.

Can't wipe data, can't install stock recovery, phone stuck in boot animation

Hello, I've been trying to bring back to life this old XT1068.
In the past years, I had installed several ROMs until one day the phone stopped working (probably I made some mistakes like flashing something not supposed to be flashed on this device, probably) and since that moment if I turn it on it remains stuck on the boot animation (the coloured google dots moving...).
I tried everything. I have TWRP 3.1 installed, I tried to wipe everything, I tried factory reset, I tried to erase the internal storage, I tried to install new ROM, including a stock ROM and the stock recovery. The result is always the same: no errors at all in TWRP, but it's like nothing changes. It does not boot and if I go to TWRP I can still see files that I put in the phone years ago, after I tried every possible wipe. Imagine that I still see the WhatsApp folder of years ago.
As I already mentioned, I also tried to flash a stock recovery: the process finishes without errors but if I reboot to recovery, I always end up in TWRP.
The only thing I can do is to reboot into recovery or fastboot.
The phone is recognized by the computer ("adb devices" / "fastboot devices").
Does anyone of you guys ever experienced something like this?
Thanks in advance.
I have exactly the same issue. Did you find a solution?
I never got that problem, is pretty strange, i think some zip you flashed before is still installed automatically, for example, there is some option on supersu called survival mode, if you enabled that, i think an supersu uninstaller zip could work, also you can try to install any rom, install supersu and check on supersu settings

Also probably some partition got damaged or anything, i recommend to flash an stock rom that flashes many things except for nvdata and nvram partitions because it could make you can't get signal if those partitions are from another zone

Hello!
I`ve done the process to install via mfastboot the stock IMG, no errors at all. When the phone reboots it goes into the previous installed rom boot animation and stays there at bootloop.
I even tryed to install an updated TWRP recovery (3.4) via fastboot. Is shows "OK" but when it loads it is still the previous version.
It looks like the phone is "write pretected".
Any further suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

Same problem here. I can accces the fastboot menu via "VOLUME DOWN + POWER" but whatever I try, the red error message comes up. I can boot into twrp via USB/PC but i cannot install it. I cannot factory reset.
when I reboot from TWRP I come to lineageOS boot loop.
ANY IDEAS?
