Termanolagy question - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if i can find this question somewhere else on this forum. I looked and i couldnt find it. Im very new at this whole flashing thing and i get the basics of it (since the last time i bricked and unbricked an infuse several times using odin). But anyways ill get to the point. What foes csc stand for? And whats the difference between multi csc and just csc? I wanted to flash 2.3.6 onto my i9000m but i wanted to know the difference first. And the downloads im looking at says it doesnt come with boot loaders, do i need that? By the way im on a canadian bell network.

[Q] Flashing Bell Galaxy S

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right section. I attempted to flash my Bell Galaxy S with the [ROM] Bionix 1.9 - JI6 OTA Build - Oops I did it again *10/14/10* and basically it installed no problem, but once it did my phone would no longer connect to the network at all. No voice or data connection just sat on searching. I restored from my nandriod backup and to my horror, still no network connection (voice or data), wifi and everything else worked fine. I ended up doing a lot of reading and staying up until 8AM to get everything fixed, felt a little stupid once i knew how-to fix it.
But now to my question, if i want to flash one of the roms, is there any special procedure that i need to follow to not loose my cell network? Any help would be fantastic
LOL... Thats sux's anyways you can't flash that rom. its not for your phone you have a GT-I9000... that rom you have flashed is for the SGH-T959.... You will need to download Odin 1.3 and flash back the whole JH2 firmware to get your radio files back. or download any rom from the i9000 forums and flash it.. but the only way to get 850mhz back is to flash to the stock JH2 firmware. unless you know what your doing and know how to flash just the radio files. you can also try kies with a reg hack to flash different firmwares.. just look around in the i9000 forums..
Go to samsung-firmwares.com and download the JH2 firmware then flash it back. Tmobile Vibrant is different from the i9000x line of phones.
I think you guys misunderstood, I have fixed it already using ODIN. I was just wondering what was flashable without breaking my radio.

[Q] Which firmware should I use?

Hi guys, I'm new here! And to the Android scene in general. Before you ask, I've been trying to use the search function, but unfortunately it says try 10 minutes later, and it said that around 15 minutes ago...
I've recently taken interest in Darkyy's 5.4 rom, but I understand with most custom made things, there can be bugs involved, and I want to prepare for the worst case scenario and be able to flash back to the original firmware, so I've got a few questions.
1)I was just wondering, which firmware is the one I need?
I live in Australia, and I am on the 3 network, and have recently updated to 2.2 officially via KIES.
If it matters, I've also rooted and voodoo one click lagfixed it, along with officially unlocked the phone via the 3 network.
PDA: I9000HVJP4
PHONE: I9000HVJP3
CSC: I9000HUTJP4
2) If I reflash original firmware, will the phone still be unlocked, or will I have to unlock the phone again with 3? I'm pretty sure they keep records of that stuff... so will they be willing to do it again for me if that is the case? Or will it not relock itself?
Thanks guys!
If you reflash it using the firmware from samfirmware.com, it should remain unlocked.
You will need to remove all lagfix before reflashing it. Always remember to remove lagfix before flashing. The root can stay.
As for Darkyy's rom, I don't know what on earth happened lately, but he completely changed the instructions for no reason (far as I can tell). The old instructions were simply to flash back to an old Eclair firmware, and then install his rom. Works every single time.
Thanks man, I'll remember to do that, but does it matter which firmware version I go with if I want to restore my original firmware, perhaps even for warrantee reasons? I have a tendancy to mess things up beyond repair...
I'd hate to bump my own topic but... Nobody can help?
As you have jp4 you should flash that from samfirmware to get back to stock should things go wrong.

[Q] Flashing to 2.2

Hi guys purchased an SGS from Hong Kong, im in NZ, its on 2.1 and im desperate to get it to 2.2, is there anything i need to lookout for when upgrading?
If something happens and i need to revert back to stock do i need to use the HK firmware or can i use one local to my country?
Whats the best method to upgrade to 2.2, should i use a custom rom?
any help would be sweet, been reading alot but getting confused.
You should search up a program called odin. Its a pc program that most people use to flash their phones. Its also very versatile, can flash 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 etc. Careful though, flashing the wrong settings may cause your phone to not boot. The guides on odin are pretty clear though.
Another thing to familiarize yourself with is clock work mod recovery. Its an app on your phone that can also be used to flash firmware or install applications - very useful.
Should something go wrong when flashing, there is a thread on xda called EZ base. Its a pre configured set of odin files that are very effective in restoring a phone in bad situations.
Youtube may be your friend to help you see how this type of thing works but nothing beats trying it yourself
Thanks ive done heaps of reading, aware of both those programs, just worried about flashing the wrong rom!
Flashed roms on android before but all my phones have been from my country
will look for the EZ base thread as back up.
Just check in your settings which version of Android is on your phone now, then go to samfirmware.com and check with which region your firmware coincides. There firmwares are generally split by continents, so all Asian firmwares should work for all Asian SGS but check to be sure coz your phone may have been imported

Okay then a KJ4 firmware to download to sim unlock!!

Hey folks, im having issues with sim unlocking my galaxy Note. Funny enough ive done that for my girlfriends Note a couple weeks ago. By mistake i deleted the firmware i used to downgrade and now im lost. I used cf-factoryRFS KJ1 to downgrade but it still showing same baseband. So when i try helroz apk it wont unlock the tab. I know it can be Done because my girlfriend Note is the same(hers is white) and mines black. Other than that, same stock firmware and everything. Since its from ClaroPR im afraid of flashing a foreign stock KJ1 because i may lose the csc(PCT for claropr). So if someone can point me to the right direction ill be very happy... Like i said, i know it can be done because i did on hers and its they both came with same firmware and everything. I just forgot the files i used and cant remember exactly which ones.

You can download any rom package, extract with 7zip and remove the CSC file (cache.img) and then flash, won't cause any issues and you'll retain your current csc.

How do I install a clean (no branding) OS

I bricked my phone last time I tried to do this, so I need very precise instructions on how to get rid of the incredibly annoying branding that's all over my phone. There are so many apps that come pre-installed that I can't uninstall, and along with that every time i turn it on I'm forced to watch a terrible low res splash screen.
Virgin Mobile btw.
With a PC, if it's got a brand specific OS or if it gets full of crap / infected, you can quite easily install a fresh operating system and start fresh (there's nothing more satisfying than reinstalling an OS IMO!)
Well, that's what I want to do but with my GT S7500.
In the past though, I flashed my phone with a stock rom and it appeared to do nothing. I still had all my annoying apps and splash screen.
Minutes later in my confusion and frustration I bricked it...
I want to get rid of the splash screen and all the pre installed insignificant crap in one go. Surely this is possible?
I had to unlock my phone using SRS and that cost me £11, obviously I don't want to lose my unlock. Is the unlock permanent?
Here's my phone info:
Model: GT S7500
Android: 2.3.6
Baseband: S7500XXLC3
Kernel: 2.6.38.6
Build #: GINGERBREAD.XXLC3
I guess you have an Ace Plus.
You can root your phone and remove all useless apps with titanium backup.
I know how to get rid of the splash screen in normal Ace but Im unsure about the Ace Plus as I dont have the device.
But you can remove all the sh*t apps you want. Make sure hey are safe to remove!

You need the appropiate odin, binary (cooper.ops is for ace, i don't know which one is for ace plus) and firmware (from sammobile) compatible with your phone. Google up which odin to use, and download latest firmware from sammobile.
This installs a fresh, free stock OS to do your biding. Your phone remains unlocked after flashing.

Hi dxppxd. Thanks. However, I need more info here.
Imagine you're talking to a clever dog that can understand basic human speech, or imagine you're speaking to a stupid person. You choose.
I just need you to explain it to me.
- For GT-S7500 I use Odin 1.85, yes?
- Do I need an ops file? In the thread it says you don't.
- What's the most recent firmware?
- Whats the deal with kies, I ran into problems originally because it was in the processes.
Preferably, I'd like someone with some past experience to tell me exactly what to do, because I don't want to risk bricking this phone again.
I'm sure people googling will find that helpful also.

1.Search,i dont know about that
2.Which thread are you talking about?
3.Search sammobile.com
4.Kies shouldnt run in the background..Stop it and then start flashing
I went to sammobile and searched, but I don't know which one to choose, that was what I meant by "what's the most recent firmware"
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-S7500&pcode=VIR&os=1&type=1#firmware
I have the choice of country and carrier. There is several UK ones: BTU, VOP, VIR, VOD
The vodafone one (VOD, my carrier) says United Kingdon (Vodaphone), which I guess mkeans it's special Vodafone firmware, which I don't want.
Remember I don't want any branding, that's all I'm trying to do.
Of all these types and all the firmwares they relate to, which one should I get?
I've just noticed the VIR list contains one with PID of S7500XXLC3, my baseband.
Should I do this one then?
I would appreciate it if someone else could confirm all of this so that I can do this in the secure knowledge that my phone will not get bricked again.
For ****s sake!!
I never got a reply so I went ahead and flashed the S7500XXLC3_S7500VIRLC2_VIR firmware that I got from sammobile.com
My phone has baseband s7500XXLC3, so that's the one I chose.
And after all of that (flashing, factory reset and cache reset, losing all my data), I discover that it's virgin branded, and it appears to be a little outdated also (I notice a lot of the icons are different, like android market is not google play, books is a different format, looks worse)
Sammobile sucks, it should clearly say "Virgin Branded"!!!
So, where do I get myself an unbranded stock firmware to flash? And how do I know if it's branded or not before I install it?
I've read it doesn't really matter if I get a different country's firmware (I'm UK btw), but it does mean I get different updates. Seems very strange there isn't a universal unbranded 2.3.6.
I'd appreciate it if someone could have a look for an unbranded up-to-date firmware I could install.
...I guess I should be happy that I didn't brick it this time. Still pissed off though. God damn it.

The ROM has VIR on the end, which means its Mr Branson's network. There's something called common sense. SamMobile is perfect - you just need to think first.

If it doesnt have VIR on the end it has VOD or BTU or VOP
So which one do I pick, genius?
Also where it says Country/Carrier, it just says United Kingdom, not United Kingdom/Vodafone like it should.
I dont think your sim will work properly if you flash a rom which is not of your carrier.

Doesn't make a difference. I have free unbranded firmware, sim is still working just fine. Ask anyone into flashing firmwares.
As to using sammobile, it's just common sense. Locate your phone model and region, look for firmware with latest android version. Flash with appropiate odin, they even include flash guides.

I appreciate the response, but that doesn't help me at all.
What I'm asking is simple.
VIR, VOD, BTU, VOP
Vir = Virgin, Vod = Vodafone, BTU = ?, VOP = ?
Is BTU brand-free firmware?
Is VOP brand-free firmware?
That's all I need to know. If the answer to those 2 questions is no, then I need someone to tell me exactly where to find some working brand-free firmware, because I can't identify which are brand-free and which aren't.

I've looked around on the Internet, and BTU is brand-free firmware. Go ahead and flash it.
If it isn't (would test but I don't have a Galaxy Ace Plus), VOP would be the one.
There's not much on the S7500 at the moment, so I can't tell you for certain.
