Hello people from XDA,
I have a few questions that hopefully can be answered:
I have the Galaxy S GT i9000 and I really want to have jellybean 4.1 instead of gingerbread. I have run into a lot of problems when I tried to put custom ROM (I think it was the F4k ICS ROM) and a lot of problems when trying to root. I now sucessfully have it rooted on XXJVU 2.3.6
What I want to know: Is the Jellybean 4.1 for daily use? I use my phone for work and school, so I don't need a ROM that can't for example call or send SMS.
Does 3G and Wi-Fi work?
Will I run into problems starting up? When flashing the F4k ICS ROM I couldn't stop it from staying at the "Kernel semaphore" even after waiting 10 - 20 minutes.
Is it STABLE?
Do I have acces to Google Play
Do I have USB to computer access?
Do I NEED to make a backup with Titanium Backup, or isn't it neccessary? It really doesn't matter for me if I have to set my settings manually again.
I hope these can be answered. For as far as I searched, I couldn't find any answers related to my questions.
Thanks in advance,-
Hello
Yes you can use cm10 as daily.almost everything works
has ccaseder
everything you asked for should work if you set it all up correctly
To get to 4.0.4 - CM9 here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546&highlight=jw4. You can skip first steps if you have a rooted GB / CWM.
After that to go to CM10 (4.1.2) it's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526
Everything is working great in 4.1.2 CM10.
First you should backup EFS, save contact/sms/mms/call log with Go Backup (Titanium also as it can't hurt to have 2 backups).
Backup is needed as the phone will be wiped.
In my opinion CM10 is almost as 'stable'(in every way you could think off) as CM9. Some people still wait for a real stable, if you really don't want to encounter anything weird you could go for CM9 instead.
Helly Bean
Try Helly_Bean, smoother and faster than CM10 in my opinion and all works fine out of the box.

Well 4.1.2 is out now and yes it can be used as daily use. It is important to know that in order to have a good experience with jellybean you should go from gingerbread to ICS to JB in that order or you can loose your IMEI number and that is important. Don't forget to do a backup (nandroid) on your phone in the recovery menu. Yes you will have google play and usb . Read the op of the rom you want to install as now to go to 4.1.2 there is a couple of extra steps usually with a new partition layout (you might have to flash the same JB rom up to three time to get it to work properly). Good Luck JB is awesome and fast
Im using X-Bean 3.0 + Semaphore 2.4.4s on a daily base & its running smooth and stable here. I came from stock GB, rooted it and flashed the rom right away.
Had 2 flash it twice. After full wipe flash the rom.
First time phone reboots and wont pass the semaphore logo.
Take battery out and reboot into recovery mode, flash the rom again.
This time install will complete. Reboot & there u go. U can flash kernel after........
Hello, i just bought an LG Optimus x2 and i'm trying to get CM10.1 (at least) inside of it.
the thing is, this phone came with what seems to be a custom firmware and bootloader. At bootup it says vtr.com which seems to be a chilean provider. (i'm in Uruguay....) Just bought it new... cant understand why this came like that.
If i try to put clockworkmod, i'm suppossed to do it on a rooted phone.
If i try to root the phone, everywhere says i need to access CWM...
I'm deeply confused.
This pone has not a menu when booting into recovery mode, it just says "firmware update, wait until update finished" i can't choose any file from SD external nor internal.
I have tried several tutorials, using nvflash, using superoneclick... Nothing works.
BTW, i have smartflash just in case i cant put CM10.1 so i tought about putting the official ICS rom, but i dont want to use it, i want cyanogenmod.
Would be a way to achieve what i want to put ICS, then root, then put clockworkmod, then go back to gingerbread and then put cyanogenmod?
Plz help, and thanks for your time.
A lot of ROM-choices
No problem:
1. Sounds to me you have to do a full wipe and start from scratch. The AIO-tool is perfectly suited for this: see AIO option 4. - it will wipe and repartition your phone, install bootloader and root your phone at once (and it can do a lot more).
2. Before wipe, please think about what bootloader (bl) you want: in general old bl is for the older gingerbread-based ROMs, new bl is for most newest ROMs (although some also run on old bl).
3. Then think about what ROM you want. ROM choice is very personal. You could experiment. Just remember to make backups along the way. With the AIO-tool you can even choose Dual Boot for enabling easy-switching between two ROMs (as long they are on the same bl). LG-ROMs are generally not considered best (although some disagree).
3a. I have been running CM7.2 with ETaNa 2.6.32.y kernel (requires old bl) for a long time and was very happy.
But this is an old ROM. If you want to have a newer there are several possibilities (which in general require new bl). I have been very happy with 3b and 3c.
3b. Currently, I am on Pengus77's Look Ma No Hands which is based on CM10 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It is fast and responsive, has low battery consumption and all features (like BT, HDMI) work.
3c. tonyp's CM10.1 (JellyBean) is fast and responsive too and most features (BT yes, but HDMI no) work.
3c. If you want tonyp's latest, try theROM is based on CM10.2 (newer optimised JellyBean). So it got the latest Android stuff, but is experimental (it is not made for our somewhat outdated phone) and some features (BT & HDMI no) do not work (I have not tried this ROM), but
3d. there are a lot of other good ROMs out there. Check the list here.
4. ICS and JB ROMs require different kernels. All ROMs come with required kernels, but these get updated too. I use Kowalski Kernel M1 and flash most updates.
5. After flashing and stabilising the ROM, you can overclock the cpu with eg. Cpu Adjuster. I have have overclocked to 1404MHz, but even 1500MHz is considered safe.
6. The p990 does not have much RAM, so you could consider using Greenify to freeze non-essential apps (eg. facebook/maps/...) which consume memory in standby. Please note, dedicated notifications will not work.
7. After finding the best setup for you, please consider to donate to related devs.
8. Be careful not to become a real flashoholic
Good luck!
PS 5. and 6. might not work on gingerbread-based ROMs
Awesome reply man! Just my 2 cents... CM10 is based on Jellybean too. In fact, it's a 4.1.2 incarnation, while Ice Cream Sandwich was/is 4.0.X. Google kept the jb name from 4.1 to 4.3 because all the updates weren't that major
Ok, thanks pals for your answers, i had some doubts about versions but oneearleft cleared them.
Finally i installed nightly 10.2 Cyanogenmod, had to make a couple of full wipes via reflashing, there was a method to do it wich buttons but didn't work.
Finally i flashed latest LG rom, then i could put CWM and after that Cyanogenmod. If i'm not too crazy, i did all using AIO-Tool.
Sorry if i cant be a bit clearer, but i finished 4AM and with a half bottle of booze inside, so i really cant remember much.
Thanks again.
EDIT: Also, CM10.2 (4.2.2) has BT working, Still could not try HDMI.
EDIT2: I forgot, (booze) at one point, when i installed an official LG-rom for a random provider (Claro-CTI) after a reboot, i saw the "android" android and the phone went to an infinite reboot loop.
That's why i flashed the official ICS rom from LG. This took out the odd botloader and put the nice LG logo with a crisp animation. (vtr.com one was awful and frozed)
Then after that i could flash cyanogenmod with the bootloader that rom brought.
Fyi the roms don't replace the bootloader. Being a tegra device, the bl has to be flashed as a separate step via nflash.
I dont know how it happened or why, i just saw the android and the device became looper. After that, i could reflash it.
I'm really confused about what happened but i have reflashed it several times, i tested CM7.1, CM10.1, 10.2 and i'm about to put P.A.C.man.
My main interest was to be more used to the flashing methods, bootloader and such. (i really knew/know nothing)
Now i'm about to find if i have the new or old bootloader so i can install PACman.
Wish me luck.
Ok now... This cellphone is awesome, sadly the only stable are way too old.
So, ¿Is anywhere a CM9 for this phone? I would love to keep cyanogenmod with it's own appearance and tools but without loosing HDMI, WiFi tether, BT and good battery life.
I've searching for it, but could'nt find.
Thanks.
Hello everyone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab which I bought few years ago when it was first release (probably 2010). In the past, this device doing so well even after I root it 2 months after I purchase this device. But recently (starting 2014), it starting to hang or crashed a lot whenever i play a games. I mean high graphic games (if my term correct :laugh like Sims Freeplay etc which always make it crashed. I've never experience crashing thing if I play average games like cards etc. Apart from that, my battery drained way too fast for certain games. For your information, I'm a very hardcore gamer. Since I'm doing my work at home, most of time I spend it on games (probably like 16-18 hours or more per day while doing work or else). Because of this very reason, I've been thinking to upgrade it to latest android version so I can play latest games on Google Store. So I've been reading about custom ROM and decided to make it. My problem is my device is already rooted and I dont remember anything about it either which root tutorial I followed before or what apps that I used to root it. Only thing I remember is that Root Developer said that I need to use this same root apps to unroot my device. So now what can I do to get this custom ROM work? Do I need to unroot > stocked ROM > root again > custom ROM? Or I just straight doing this custom rom? And what is best stable custom ROM available for my device?
Here is my spec :-
Model : Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 (Phone/WiFi/3G)
Firmware : 2.3.3
Baseband : P1000DXJPE
Kernel : 2.6.35.7 [email protected]#2
Build : GINGERBREAD.DXJPI
Status : Rooted (I forgot how I root this)
Overclocking : Never did.
P/S : Sorry for my bad english.
So your device is rooted.
Does it has custom recovery or stock recovery.
To find out, power down your tab,
then hold the volume-up button, and hold down the power button, until you see the Samsung logo.
Let go of the power button, but keep holding the volume up button.
Then read what it says.
It it says Recovery 3(e) then you have a stock recovery.
If it is custom, likely CWM (clockworkmod) recovery.
What vesion of CWM.
If, by some chance, you didn't put a custom recovery, then just use Overcome method.
The link is in my signature.
You are already on GB. Root or not doesn't matter.
Installing custom ROM doesn't need root anyway.

Hello priyana,
I already made to overcome ROM before I saw your reply here. It is because I follow your signature from your answer on this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038010 and now I currently have Overcome CWM 5.1.2.6 which work well at this moment. It also look awesome. Still thanks a lot for your reply. I have few question here..
1. Is there any Overcome ROM with android version of 4.+.+ or I should use Android 4.3 Jelly Bean CM10.1 Nightly ROM?
2. Can I have more than 1 ROM installed? Because I like Overcome style and still need android 4.+.+ for games.
3. With this Overcome I currently use now, is it still rooted or do I need to root it again? Because I need root access for some of apps like freedom, etc.
4. In case I click reset to factory data reset on setting. Is it reset back as first time I install Overcome ROM?

First, I'd seriously consider jumping to One of the better.... Um focused CyanogenMod 11, or OmniROM Builds if I were you. There is plently to be gained by updating the OS. Google Now being IMHO one of the better reasons to upgrade.
Secondly, I get your "Problem" its One in which I to share in. I guess it comes down to how well the "Developer" of your "Game" wishes to optimize their Code for. Most Games tend to work... Well enough... Other Games like Gameloft's My Little Pony have never worked well on either my Galaxy S (GT-I9000), or my Galaxy Tab (GT-P1000). Unfortunately for us these Devices only has a total of 512MB of which a portion is needed to run the OS which may leave you with something like 488MB free once your said and done. I suspect that these "Games" are probably more RAM hungry, and probably need a somewhat stronger CPU & GPU then what is on the P1000.

1) Overcome is a modded Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread), TeamOvercome has since left the Stage, as Samsung will no longer maintain this Device. As to CyanogenMod... For the P1000 Int'l GSM... I'd recommend you use the following....
CM10 http://goo.im/devs/cm/p1/nightly/cm-10-20130203-NIGHTLY-p1.zip You can basically forget about wanting to use CM10.1 or CM10.2, as they are both broken, and are themselves pretty much unsupported
CM11 I'm quite partial to this ROM [ROM] SGT7 CM11.0 UNOFFIAL [4.4.2][P1/L/N][Kernel 3.0.x][2014-05-25] as the everything that, needs to work works again. Unlike CM10's .1 & .2. Namely the Camera. Just One word of caution here though. Due to the limited /system Partition. You should only install GApps_Minimal_4.4.2_signed.zip if you want to use something like AdAway on your Rooted Phablet.
As a side note I'd also recommend you try OmniROM. Though its a bit different to CyanogenMod. In that its NOT rooted! which is a major PITA! but there are ways to get 'round that. Unlike CM11 this ROM is updated nearly every day. Unlike the aforementioned CM11 Build this One will allow you to install the full GApps. But in the case of AdAway... Which depends on root, may not work unless you put a specific *.zip File into some Folder that insures that you have root every time you update it.
2) I'm not sure I think I read something about OmniROM beta testing some kind of dual boot system. But I gather its not ready for prime time yet though.
3) Yes its Kernel OS related you can reset your Phablet as many times as you wish it'll still be rooted. AFAIK only the Samsung Stock... And OmniROM ROMs are NOT rooted by default.
4) A factory reset should wipe all personal data on your Phablet Device. It would be analogues to a fresh install of Windows.. If you catch my drift.
I am on Omni.
To root you only need to download supersu.
I download the one from their website and flash via recovery.
Within its option, there is one that makes it survive a daily update/flash.

Or you root in that way for the first time, then you download The latest SuperSu Version, and then copy that into your /OpenDelta/FlashAfterUpdate Folder on your Internal SD (i.e. sdcard0) which should allow you to hold your root after each update. Otherwise it'll quickly become huge PITA to keep rooting your Phone on each daily update...
One other thing I dislike about OmniROM, is the fact that it does NOT support USB Mass Storage. Though to be honest... Neither does Google anymore. It only give you the choice of MTP: Samsung Kies Mode, or PTP: Pictbridge? Mode support. Though I'm lead to believe that UMS can be patched back into OmniROM if it hasn't already gone live.

Hello Ichijoe..
At this moment, I'm running CM11.2 on my GT-P1000. As developer of CM11.2 on thread said it is overclocked to 1.4GHz so it running good so far. And to cover my device lack of RAM, I use ROEHSOFT RAM Expander which I set my virtual RAM (if my term is correct) to 5GB. Yes, I know as developer said Virtual RAM is max for 4GB and I dont even need more than 2GB for running this, so I will change it later when I have time. So far, for this past 3 days, my GT-P1000 running with super duper smooth, not crashed even once unless I'm doing crazy thing like running 15 games at the same time. With my previous android Gingerbread 2.3.3, I'm never able to run more than 2 games without getting hanged or crashed. The only problem I'm facing now is I cannot use my videocam as it will send me popup "Unfortunately camera has stopped working". I can use normal camera, only videocam not working. Other user of CM11.2 also facing same problem. But I dont really mind since I less use videocam like 1-2 times per year. I wonder if I install 3rd party video software will allow me to use videocam. Never tried it yet.

Hello guys,
Im on my attempt to resurrect my P1000 and Im interested to what Ichijoe said about ''CyanogenMod 11, or OmniROM Builds" can anyone point me to the right thread on how to (Im pretty much noob about this)
Also which one is better? CyanogenMod 11 or 10?
I have just recently restarted using this phone due to my uscellular S4 getting turned off. I am now back on my LG-P990 currently rooted and running CM10.1. BUT most importantly to me is the fact that I have all my wonderful apps on my s4, I want to be able to use them by using the LG phone as a tether and calls not much else BUT CM10.1 tethering does not work, so i find myself flashing rom after rom, avatar rom, older CM mods, none would turn on tethering, so i flashed a modded version of MIUI for this phone and it worked except for ONE thing no signal, tethering turned on just fine so i decided to look around for other roms and found Slimrom TRYED to flash it didnt work, try to flash actual MIUI roms off there site, didnt work, met with an error in CWM Recovery after some searching I found its because Im running the OLD Bootloader -_- THIS is the issue im having IF MIUI does NOT work is it possible to downgrade the bootloader again so i can restore my CM10.1 backup? I have been working at this for a week, if there is something here about this can someone please just point me at it? I would appreciate any help.
On a side note i DID soft brick the phone the other day and found a program called nvflash witch flashed an install of CM mod. Dont know if that will help any.

I really do not understand how other ROMs deny Tethering. Did you flash the latest 2.x kernel by pengus77 after installing the rom? Did you make a clean install(wipe everything then install)? On the other hand, yes you can switch bootloaders as much as you like, just remember that changing the bootloader wipes everything on your internal memory, so do a backup. Did you try just plain old stock 4.0.4? Should work there. Ask anything you want, if you're still having questions.

As to the flashing to stock i lost the original rom backup i had made along time ago and cant find the original firmware anywhere online. When I flashed CM 10.1 I just ran with it, when i go to try tethering it says "Turning on portable wifi hotspot." and it stays on that no matter what untill i restart, left the phone running for 2 days once and that was still stuck on that before i restarted. As for flashing a 2.x kernel i had no idea about that. But yes when i did the installs i would do a clean wipe and install. Most of what i read online led me to believe that there was an error with CM 10.1 nightlys that was not being fixed for the tethering. So that is why i decided to go to another rom. Two questions one how do i go about finding the original firmware for this phone and two how would i go about updating or downgrading the bootloaders and could i be pointed to the files please?

Okay, This is SFSP by @sgspluss which is a pretty fast, stable and battery-friendly slimmed down version of stock ICS. It is available for both Old and NewBL, so you might want to try that first. This is AIO Toolkit. I know that you've used it and bricked your phone, but try again, and for the love of God install the nvflash drivers because most people skip that part. You have to do it manually and if you're running Windows 8 you need to disable Driver Signature Verification. But yeah, you switch bootloaders with this.
Hi all,
I have recently unlocked my bootloader and upgraded to 4.4.4 (Build 14.4.A.0.157).
Going thru the General section it seem that during the 4.2.2 to 4.3 era that there is a high chance of bricking the device when there is mismatch of baseband/firmware/kernel.
Is the issue still happening on 4.4.4 and is there anything I need to take note about when flashing custom kernel ?
I'm aware that stock ROMs (or variants) should go with stock kernel variants.
Thank you.

-Dude if you already installed recovery then first of all take a full stock ROM backup. So if in future there goes something wrong you can flash it later.
-If you don't have recovery, then install it.
-Make sure you always flash ROM that are made for your device.
-DON'T ever flash different kernels to your device. Your pre-installed ROM may misbehave.
-If you want to use the ROM as a daily driver, make sure the ROM is pretty stable.
-Always try to clean flash the ROMs.
By wiping
Cache + Dalvic cache + Data + android secure + System
Dirty flash often lead to bootloops, soft brick etc.
-Hope this would be somewhat helpful for you.
