Whats the best rom available right now for the N1? I haven't tested my N1 with anything in a while been running MIUI but I'm finding it to be sort of laggy now with apps installed.
Fastest? Hmm, pretty much any CM7 self-kang.
This one by samuaz is really fast: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416894
Is that the most stable rom available for nexus one right now?
with multiple full wipes to include system both are stable for me
with ICS by samuaz you need to follow op page exactly
Temaseks latest CM7 Kang with scroll zip is BLAZING
I use now ICS by samuaz, it's fast and really stable. But it's an alpha version!
When you think it's important to have a stable rom, then
use CM7. CM7 roms are as stable as stock, but better ;-)
worth upgrading to ICS or JB?
hello. I realize this thread hasn't been active in a while, but I am thinking to bring back my Nexus One from the grave so I can have a backup phone for my daughter to play with in the car/plane. I wanted to ask if it is worth installing ICS or JB ROMs that are out there. I just have the stock ROM in there now and I always struggled with low memory and lag with some newer apps, that's why I've upgraded phones (I've have a Galaxy Nexus now).
I don't have intentions to put a SIM card in there, so I don't really care about phone call features.. only purely from a processing and lightweight standpoint.
Has anybody played enough with GB vs ICS and/or JB and weighed if it's worth upgrading? I'm assuming that it's worth it because so many developers still have Nexus One ROMs... that's why I would just go ahead and install it, but then I'm thinking again if it's just going to bog down the phone if I'm going to only use it for simple games.
Thanks in advance!!
Ken
Hello! I have installed the CM10.1 VJ Jelly Bean 4.2.2 v6.0 that is based on CyanogenMod and Evervolv, and works fine for me. I also have installed all the /data partition in the SD card with the A2SD script that is incorporated in the ROM... it generates some few lags, but I didn't have had any problem of lack of space again.
In my opinion, this is the ROM of JB that best preserves the native Android interface, and in my case is stable (until 7 days without to require a reboot!).
Other JB ROMs that users frequently use are PARANOIDANDROID and PixelDroid.
Thanks for the quick response! That is the ROM I was thinking of as well. However, just as a comparison, I'm thinking to flash a clean version of GB back onto the phone as well. Any recommendations on any GB ROMs as well? Thanks!

Sorry, but I can't help on it. I didn't install any GB ROM further than the stock ROM. In my opinion, I think that a stable, complete and functional ROM might be CyanogenMod 7.2. Maybe other XDA members can help you better on it...

No problem. I'll probably end up trying both out. Thanks again for the response. By the way, what do you use your N1 for now or is that you main phone? I was playing around with it yesterday and I still like it a lot - I always liked the trackball.
plz tell me the best jb rom ri8 now?

This is my main phone. In several times I though changing to other new Nexus device, but the screen size of new devices is too big for me! I like a screen size from 3.7 to 4.0, that is good to read mails, a brief navigation in the Internet, and other minor issues. For other intensive uses, I have my tablet Nexus 10 or my laptop.
i'm a fresh Gnote user , moved a day ago from S2 with AOKP rom, and well... few problems and questions for Gnote:
basic info: the Gnote came to me (2nd hand) with Stunner 1.4.19 rom, LP5 kernel and LP5 modem. and i only ran it for a day now.
1. i got horrible battery drain... it just drinks power, while i know it has bigger screen and power consumption, it has a 2500mah battery.
with my old S2 with i could get at least 5~6 screen time hours... and more or less a day out of it.
right now i got 13 hours out of it (was sitting in my pocket while i was at work) with 13% left and 3h24m screen time.
how do i fix this? and is the Sam GB roms better in this matter (like AOKP but not at this price)
2. i knew the speaker on the Gnote was weaker than S2, now i know it for a fact.
i have a crazy idea for how to fix it... but that's for later.
i know that Voodoo Louder gives a sound boost for the headphone is good for the speaker too?
3. if i choose to go from stunner to Sam GB/ICS rom... how to do it? don't want to brick a new phone.
4. i use the LP5 modem and kernel... what modem is considered best for the Gnote? i'm used to the KI3 from the S2 but as a new Gnote user i have no clue whats best for it.
5. never liked stock kernels, what kernel should i use with AOKP roms and/or GB roms?
6. the big question... GB vs ICS, AOKP vs Sam... is there an answer to it?
well sorry for the long post, but i'm new to Gnote
Hey, welcome to the Note
1. Battery drain could be caused by a number of things. Have you tried doing a full wipe? Some people have reported better battery life on the LP6 modem so you can try that as well
2. No idea
3. Going from an AOSP/AOPK rom to another ICS rom (whether is't a Sammy rom or an AOSP/AOPK rom) is just a matter of doing a full wipe and flashing another rom through CWMR. If you wanna go back to GB there's a number of threads in the dev section with all the instructions you need.
4. Opinions are divided between LP5 and LP6. For me LP6 is perfect, great reception, nice 3G speeds and stable wifi.
5. I really like Stunner's ICS roms. You can try updating to 1.4.26.1, look for his thread in the dev section.
6. There's no real answer to that. I've used Darky, Rocket Rom with SpeedMod Kernel, imilka's CM9 v2 and Stunner (beta 5, 1.4.19, 1.4.26.1) and to me Stunner's is the best I've tried. Great battery life, awesome speed and customizable.
Here's a link to the LP6 modem. Just flash it and see what happens. If you don't like it you can always flash back to LP5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24928440&postcount=4250
Also a new user
Just not my new note and want to install a rom cuz i dont like all the extra stuff in touchwiz, it really feels slow comparing to my SGS2.
Im not new to rooting and flashing but i havent done any since september 2011 so im reading some post and blogs to get updated. And ofcourse i have some questions.
1. Is it possible to run 2 roms on a phone? like using a rommanager?
I want to test a rom first and keep the stock for daily use till i decide.
2. I think im going for those light roms like stunner or liquid but S-pen button doesnt work on those...now my question is the S-pen screenshot function a part of one of the Smemo or Snote apps? or is it really a touchwiz thing? can i install one of these roms and install an S-pen app to get the screenshot function back with the Spen button?
Thx!
advice
try this rom, is Jelly bean 4.1.1 is very beautiful, smoothly and best battery from all roms I tested and a plus is that S pen is working very smoothly and you can keep all your note apps. I tested, paranoid, criskelo, alba, rocket, cm9, cm10, ... nothin compares to this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883877 blackCNA
Hi there!
I must say I'm very disappointed with my 2 year old Galaxy S I9000. Reboots, stuck, UI bugs etc.
I tried any possible 2.x.x ROMs (gingerbread). It works fine ~2 months, then start to randomly reboot, lag and etc.
I'm thinking about moving to ICS or JB (??) ROM. Preferably clean ROM from Google with/without 3d party developers modifications (without any samsung crap, or touchwiz or whatever). I though about CM9 but now I read that Slim ICS is better and more stable.
The first thing I need from a phone, is to be a PHONE! i.e. send and receive calls and sms. WiFi and 3G is very important, GPS is very important. Those are the important-mandatory-must-have-must-work things.
Secondary things I want from a phone is to be a decent photo camera (rarely take videos, but not going to give up on this feature), music player, support for external sd card.
Languages does not matter to me, I use English interface. Ability to support RTL languages correctly will be a bonus. Preferably a clean ROM without any forced application (like custom launchers or etc, give me the opportunity to select my launcher please) OR a ROM with pre installed application but with ability to remove them.
Any suggestion to any ROM and kernel combinations will be appreciated!
Thank you a lot!
You can try downloading two roms at a time and put that in your root of sd, so in case 1 fails to qualify you can quickly switch to another rom thru recovery. I'm using aokp for my nexus, maybe its good for galaxy s too.. it depends on personal taste.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Try the latest CM9 stable rom release. Much more reliable than Sammy stock roms imo
I9000 CM10 nightly
I would recommend CM 9.1 as well. It works great and is really stable.
Sent from my Gameboy Color
If you want good battery life, stability and performance, try CM9 Stable, even better is SlimICS. From JB roms CM10 nightly... (also good ICS roms are eg. AOKP, TiramiSlim, RemICS...)
Thanks! I think Ill go with CM9 (with stock CM9 kernel) and as backup option Ill have Slim ICS on sd card.
Other suggestions will be appreciated!

I recommend JB C-RoM BeaN v1.3.4 (the latest v1.3.5 is for release already). All system applications you mentioned above are working fine, super fast and smooth, no lags. Also no Samsung Apps. Google Apps are in a separate Zip file so you can choose to install them or not.
I'm using this RoM now and I can say this is the best RoM I have ever used compared to GB, ICS, and other JB Roms I've flashed.

I would suggest RemICS 1.3.1, combined with Semaphore 1.2.6s....very good battery life, good management of RAM.
Very good for daily usage...
Try this rom. You wont be disappointed. It's Gnexus port, very smooth and stable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776738

You can also try SLIM BEAN V2.2 for I9000, it is also very good for daily use with great battery backup.
thanks.

Either Gamerzrom v11 (Gingerbread) or Team nyx rc5 (ics). I'm on gamerzrom v11 and I'm waiting for v12.
I would have to submit my vote for Gamerz v11. I have been using it for a really long time and have had no issues. Right now I'm almost at 7 days battery life with data turned off when I don't need it.
Dear guys from XDA,
As my phone is also being used as a business phone and my alarm clock, thus it's quite important it's somewhat stable. For that reason I used darkyroms gingerbread rom for a long time, and still using it now. Though, it's really getting time to get a decent update to JB. What is quite important for me is;
- Reliable 3G connection (noticed with an ICS rom before that that is not always the case)
- No random reboots or shutdowns
- Would be a big plus if it would be quite lag free, as its quite annoying when I "quickly need something" and I need to wait for my phone to process it.
I've been searching since 11 o'clock, and it's 15,46 now, and its getting on my nerves
My phone has an iNand chip (as the file says it's a SEM08G...), thus is requires the "original partitioning". Still, the question remains what would be best/stable/....
Slimbean, CM10 (with original part.), hellybean,...one of those in combination with Devil Kernel?
Please tell me if you use one of these for a more extended period of time (where you are someone that leaves his phone on 24/7), and what combination of rom and kernel, or just rom in general you use.
Another comparison thread, here we go.
OK, it's down to personal preference mate. You need to pick a ROM that you're going to like. Firstly, ask yourself the questions such as with or without touchwiz etc?
I like C-Rom, it's very smooth, touchwiz loaded, seems stable (no random reboots, just the odd FC and they're just as common in GB) but there are others my friend. Just personal preference.
Which ROM?

I'm currently using X-Bean 2 (details in my signature), which is a JB rom. My phone remains on 24/7 and I use it in conjunction with my GT-N7000 (that big, beautiful screen does tend to hammer the battery!). It is fast, stable and comes with 1.5GB partition. Other flavours are due out shortly. Check it out at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829256
Prior to this I was using Remics-JB, which is touchwiz based. If you want to go down this route, then I suggest you wait for the new version which is due out soon. Check it out at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804032
If you are coming from GB, then the preferred route is -> upgrade to 2.3.6 (eg, JVU or JW4) -> ICS -> JB. Backup is essential since a full wipe (data/factory reset, cache, and advanced/Dalvik cache) is required (Kies will not work with custom roms). Also suggest backing up your efs folder (with its IMEI information). It is generally recommended to avoid going directly from GB to JB.
I'm very pleased with X-Bean 2.0. But choice of rom is a matter of individual taste and priorities.

Oh well thank you , then I will try X-Bean myself then.
Look, a lot of people here are "it all comes down to own preference", but being this busy, I don't really have the time to test 4 roms and see what I like most, I just want an update that works, nothing more. I am familiar with custom roms and clockworkmod though, as I was using darkyrom before. (I liked darkyrom as those roms were really polished and with a very out-of-the-box clean. However, their release cycle is extremely slow as they are still on ICS at the moment).
I will be installing X-Bean tomorrow then, thank you very much.
Hi. Just looking for some advice. My Captivate is currently on 2.3.6 stock and it is unbelievably slow even with a full format. Could someone please recommend a good lite android version I could flash to make the phone faster?
Thanks for any help!

If you want to be 100% safe - CM7/Gingerbread MIUI
If you're willing to risk your Internal SD card being borked (reason is unknown, although a lot of cases showed up around/after ICS/JB are ported to the 1st gen SGS devices. I highly suspect its a hardware issue, but you never know) - Slim ICS 4.2. It's not as smooth as JB roms, but it's prettier than GB roms, and it's more responsive IMO.
Jellybean option - CM10.1, CyanAOSP, GamersROMz, Slimbean, SuperNexus. Stick to 4.2.2, 4.3 doesn't bring any significant new feature, and the system feels a lot slower than 4.2.2 based roms. CM10.1 is the standard Cyanogenmod option, CyanAOSP is what I used to use before my Internal SD Card borked, it's essentially CM/SuperNexus lite. GamersROMz is pretty fast, but I lost the file and the download link is super slow, so I gave up redownloading it. Slimbean has the cool inverted mode that save battery, but it's a little slow compared to the CM based ROMs. SuperNexus is really fast and smooth, but feature wise, it's like a Nexus. You'll need Xposed to get some features that is built into CM, but at that point it'll slow down.
Don't bother with KitKat IMO, it's slower than JB without any significant functionality upgrade that is relevant on our devices.

Thank you so much for your help! I first tried out the Gingerbread MIUI Rom, but wasnt too impressed with it. Half the apps remained in Chinese. I ended up flasing GamerzRomz. Pretty impressed with it and will prob keep it. Much much faster than stock! Thanks again!
