[warning] do not use rom manager. - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Reading all those people saying that ROM Manager bricked their phone, I have decided to make a thread just so newbies will know not to use the stupid app...
Rom Manager will 100% BRICK your phone and you will have to claim your warranty or if they don't agree ... PAY OVER 50$!!!! Please DO NOT USE THIS APP OR IT WILL LEAD YOUR PHONE AND YOU TO DOOM!!!!!!!! !!
Use this to flash CWM recovery on your mini http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439751 . In the instructions it is given to flash through CWM but IT EVEN WORKS WITH STOCK RECOVERY!
PS: Please help me make this a sticky so n00bs can read it immediately. Thanks.

I've used it hundreds of times without any problems, the thing is, if you install a ROM that isn't for your phone it doesn't matter HOW you do it, it will still brick your phone.
You can use that flash recovery OR any other that works with the mini, what you can't do is try to flash an unsupported recovery and think it will work.
However, if you have Squads 5.0.2.8 installed, you can use Rom manager just fine, same if you have version 4.0.1.5 or 5.0.2.7 installed.

Oh. I did not know that. I think ill just change the main thing to " Do not install CWM through ROM manager" ... And anyways it's better not to use that app ... the CWM GUI is good enough!

I think you never experienced a brick by installing cwm with rom manager
seriously why take risk when we can play safe by just pressing 4-5 buttons manually

Absolutely, DON'T install CWM through ROM manager, it IS however a great tool for other purposes.
It could have been really great if there were more devs supporting it but everyone wants their own tool. That is the problem with FLOSS as well as it's strength because as much as the GNU people hate it, one will come out on top.
Personally, i like the goo.inside.me tools, looks nice to me and that is one hell of a name LOL.

AGAIN, don't install CWM via ROM manager.
I've never experienced it because it say right on the page that it's not compatible.
WHY would i install anything that isn't compatible? Well i suppose i would if i wanted to brick my phone.
User errors blamed on devs.

Shpits Xgin Rom

Okay my question is.
You see this rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135343
It says i need Clockwork Mod recovery.
What will happen if i install the rom with Xrecovery?
Because honestly, i have no idea how to install CWM.
Also. Since i am running on Froyobread 23b atm. It is built in with dual recovery.
can i use the CWM built into this rom to install XGin?
Thank you for any help.
Chances are pretty good that you will end up in a boot-loop if a pre-/post-installation script isn't executed properly or permissions aren't setup correctly (the scripting language of CWM isn't compatible with xRecovery).
Simply get the x8toolbox out of the development section to install CWM or find nobodyAtall's CWM Recovery 3.2.0.0 thread and install it ... it's not that hard to do.
Of course you can try to flash with xRecovery, but if you're stuck in a boot loop prepare yourself to restore the Stock ROM through SEUS or Flashtool and go from there again.
Thanks for the quick reply, but i still don't get it. =/
EDIT :How do i install CWM without replacing Xrecovery?
and if i do replace Xrecovery, what happens to the roms that need xrecovery to install?
Help..T_T

Yes, it should be safe to install the ROM through Froyobread's CWM IF it reports itself as version 3.2.0.0 or later (can't recall what CWM version Froyobread had - just reboot into CWM and look at the top/right corner where it displays the version number).
it says "Clockwork Mod v3.2.0.0-r2 x10mini"
And then the options.
Then right at the end it says
"FATAl:Couldn't generate a valid backup for the current recovery"
Whats that!?
Never saw that error message in CWM ...
Either post the question here - though there's already one post in there (page 13, post #122) about that problem but unanswered - or ask in shpit's thread about advise before you try to flash.
Flash?
I don't want to flash it..
Doesn't flash mean to make the rom the default?
Or is it another way of saying INSTALL?
Yes, Flash/Flashing means "writing the contents of the update ZIP into the NAND memory (=ROM) of your phone" - you can of course also put it as "installing the new ROM".
Like I said, I would ask about the error message you got from CWM before trying to flash/install the xGin ROM.
Maybe, and I'm guessing here, it's related to some incompatible version of busybox or su.
Edit: If you need to increase your posts to '10' so you can post in the developer section just add 4 more posts to this thread and then head over to the dev section and post your question in the xGin thread.
You know what, Nevermind.
Cos i really don't understand this.
at all.
Im using 1.15..i think..of BusyBox.
and I updated SU today through Android Market.

That could be the problem ... a version of the su binary that is too new OR is buggy (I read somewhere that su 3.0.2(?) had a problem and manual upgrade to 3.0.6 was advised)
I appreciate that link.
thanks.

I want to go from Gingerbread to CyanogenMod

Since i heard and readed alot about the cyanogenMod, i wanted to flash my phone to this Rom.After folowing a vid on youtube and some research. I found out that i can't flash to cyanogenMod from android 2.3.3. So my question:
How can i do this?
Grtz
Daan
I just think you can flash it with CWM, as with other ROMs.
But then there is the risk that my phone bricks? witch dont happen if u use nv flash
and if u use nvflash i get an error, and thats because im on 2.3.4
failed executing command 14 nv error 0x120000

no your phone will not brick when you really need to be unlucky, all people in here is using cwm to flash with, i think nvflash is only if you want to flash stock rom,
In CWM perform a factory reset, and to be sure, format /system /data /cache, wipe Dalvik cache, and finally flash CM7.
That had nothing to do with your installed version of android, be sure to have CWM 5.0.2.0 to have ext4 compatibility.
oke ill try that thank you for ur reactions
after trying to install cyanogenmod i have problims with prompting to test.
i did everything it sayed but he still sayed no batch found. so im not sure everything works fine, so stuck at the kdb devices.

What batch are your talking about? In CWM you choose install a zip, select your zip file of CM7, you confirm and that's it... You do it from the phone don't you? CWM is not an external app on the computer... It's a special partition called recovery that you must flash either through ROM manager if you are rooted or through nvflash if not rooted yet (see trymhansen thread in dev section and forget movies and YouTube stuff...)..

why would you need nvflash? is it the special way to root the device?

well ive do things to mod andoid to make a good usb connection, i saw it in a guide . it sayed if u didnt root yet follow this guide with cwm. so i did something wrong...
i just dont get what root means and how i make a nandroid backup.
thanx for the fast reactions
the problem is the ADB its hard to set up that didnt work out for me and i need it for superoneclick cause when i try this it gets stuck at step 7 it says waiting for device
I finally hot my adb set.. when i try super one click it stops at step 7, and sayed waiting for device.. I really tried every way !
Can close this 1 problem solved, returned to froyo and then to cyanogen.

In fact thats a question that you also could have found information on by simply READING on the forum...So always use search first, whenever possible, avoids unnecessary post, second i am going to give u some points you can stick to. First of all I would root the phone (attention warranty voids) then install superuser and Busybox (you can find tutorials on that everywhere here) then install ROM Manager or soft similar to it, open the program, install ClockWorkManager, reboot to recovery system, backup, DONE!
As I said you also could have found that out on your own... And learning by doing is still better than not learning by copying
So i hope you manage to do it... also consider to have a look into this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771

Are you rooted already? If so you can try an app called quick boot, you can choose to boot to recovery from that. I don't have the phone yet so I've only been able to read about rooting it.

so it should be no problem to put the phone into recovery mode using any tool like rom toolbox. (can't post links up to now, just search for it @ Play Store)
last menu point "rebooter" -> "reboot into recovery"
Still i'm not clear about the whole odin-stuff. Why would you want to use a Samsung-tool for HTC-Phones?

OMG! No wonder people brick their phones. Odin is a tool for Samsung phones.
Given your actions someone needs to tell you only to flash HTC One ROM's, not Samsung /Sony or even other htc phones types. Better yet, don't mess until you read a Lot more all say goodbye to your new phone.

in addition, i honestly don't see any sense in flashing a custom rom right now. At this moment, there's just nothing in it that will make your phone better in any way. Custom Roms for the One are still in heavy development and they all still rely on the same stock version. So if you got root and want to change anything, use the proper Mods or Titanium Backup and you'll be fine.
Just phoned htc looks like I've got a hardware problem so taking it back and get a new one lol

If i where you id wait till its worth installing a custom rom and one with a good video tutorial if your not clued up on how to flash a rom otherwise you will end up bricking the mighty ONE!
Easiest way:
1. Open a terminal
2. Type "su"
3. Enter
4. Type "reboot recovery"
5. Enter
6. Profit

Yes we have a locked bootloader. We have to use safestrap instead of the usual recovery like cwm or twrp.
