Not far off. To flash a custom rom you need to unlock bootloader as cant flash recovery on locked bootloader. In order for recovery flash to be successful you need root. They all work hand in hand. When we get s-off then guys with unrootable roms can downgrade to gain root. To flash recovery which you need to flash custom rom you need root on stock rom

There is an unroot zip that I will post later to reverse root. Can always go back if lock bootloader and flash stock ruu. Make sure cmd is correct mate. Unlocking bootloader is very easy once follow instructions

Thing is it was correct. But i did this on my Windows PC
and had my phone plugged in there. And after that.
I went to my mac because thats where i was able to log into htcdev
my windows let me log in but it auto logged off constantly. So idk if that was the reason why it didn't work. Because i tried to unlock on my mac and i did the CMD stuff on windows.
But this is my GF phone and i kinda only want root because she wants to remove the stock apps.
But i just wanted to unlock the bootloader incase she ever wants custom roms etc.

Same thing here.
hmmm...
The zip tried to load twice from hboot.
I tried the recovery option and rec'd the red triangle.
Ended up with correct time on home widget, but 4 hrs ahead in upper right menu.
So I flashed the Cingular ruu and back to normal.
I notice the img file is about 11 MB smaller than the ruu.

We have to wait. It took almost a month I think for the Amazed 4G.
Just long enough so that the people who got it on day-one are out of the return/exchange period

hi im a noob when it comes to htc devices...i was thinking of installing a new rom on my SXL...i have 3 questions..
1.after i install the cwm recovery i can back up my stock rom and revert back to it later on? or do i hve to install a stock rom again..?
2.After i unlock my bootloader and lock it again...is warranty voided?
3. when i try to root my phone using permanent root in the dev section i get the message 'the system cannot find the path specified'. is my phone one of those that cannot be rooted using this method?
1) After you install clockworkmod, it has a backup feature so you can backup your whole stock rom.
2) unlocking bootloader will void your warranty. Even if you relock it. Infact after you unlock bootloader you can never return it to a "locked" state. It will show as "relocked" meaning it has been unlocked at some point.
3) I can't really help you, as soon as i got my SXL i unlocked bootloader and rooted easy way

Hey guys,
last week I've rooted my Sensation XL and flashed an ICS rom I found in this forum, namely
[ROMs][ICS] XL 3.6 (v1.2) & [GB] XL 3.5 [More supported Languages including Arabic]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649402
everything worked pretty fine and the rom was really slick but last saturday, after a call, I noticed that the display would not turn on anymore.
I could still receive calls and the soft-keys also seemed to work but the display was just black. I tried to remove the battery for 30 minutes and turned the phone on again but still no reaction - i can't even see the htc logo or the boot animation - nothing.
So, I guess that the thing or the display is fried and I'm planning to send it to HTC for repairing.
My questions now are:
* is my warranty now void, because I rooted the phone and flashed a custom rom to it?
* is there a way to flash a stock RUU firmware via PC/Htc Sync even though the display doesn't work?
thanks in advance
Lu

thanks... That's what I think.
That's the reason why I was planning to send it to HTC for repairing.
But I'm not sure at this point if the custom rom on the phone will cause any problems with my warranty. I also believe that the guys who will repair it, can see that there's a custom firmware installed on the phone, and that it is rooted, even though the display doesn't work.
I also was planning to flash a stock rom vie PC but I learned that I have to re-lock the bootloader and unroot the phone for this procedure. And I think that this all won't be possible without a funtioning screen.
So I'm waiting for some experts to confirm that my only option is to send that thing, as it is, back to htc...

If HTC can get out of repairing your phone for free they will. Unlocking bootloader on its own is enough for them to say no. And a custom rom will be the cherry on the cake for them.

relocking the booloader is quite easy, even without display.
totally powered off, then long press power button and vol - for 10 second.
then wait 20s,press vol- once, power once to go into fastboot mode
now back to pc using fastboot oem lock to get it relocked.
flashing RUU is the same.you need to boot into fastboot mode then run ruu on your PC.

USB debugging is an android feature and has no effect in bootloader so its not needed. Like the other user says, there is no need to look at the screen when relocking bootloader or flashing an ruu from fastboot. But HTC will still know the bootloader has been unlocked as it will show on there diognostic software as "relocked" not "locked"

Ok, that's really great news. As soon as I get home I will try to:
unroot the phone
relock the bootloader
flash a custom RUU firmware
I found "only" 3 Roms that are for the European region in Runnymede's Shipped ROM Collection. I guess I'll try this one:
RUU_Runnymede_HTC_Europe_1.02.401.1_Radio_20.51.30.0822_3822.10.00
It's Android 2.3.5. with Sense 3.5.
Do you agree or is there a stock rom that is more suitable (I hab a T-Mobile branded 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 before)?
thank u very much guys, you are a great help!
As its a display problem most likely linked to hardware your warranty should cover the screen. Can you see bootloader screen? Follow instructions to flash ruu file as you can guess by checking in adb if phone is connected. Adb devices in cmd prompt will list serial. If that is listed then most happens on PC and will get message saying successful at end

I'm wanting to unlock bootloader again after i relocked it when updating to ICS. But i dont want to lose my userdata/apps/media i tried another method But i was missing the mmcblk0p35 so i could'nt backup my data and restore it after unlocking it.
The reason for this is i want to install Cwmrecovery by paulobrien that worked with my phone.(Didn't know if i spelled right) But it didn't work. I think its because i'be relocked my bootloader.
