Turning off the ascending ringtone (Gingerbread)
There's no way to set constant ringtone in Gingerbread (Android feature!).
There's a tutorial on how to modify phone.apk to remove ascending ringtone:link
I did it on V20o.
Should work with all rooted GB-based stock and custom ROMs.
There's no point of using it on Zeus, since Zeus has it built-in.
Please give a feedback on which ROM it works. I've only tested V20o.
1. Removing ascendant ringtone:
NoAscendingRingtone_V20o.zip
2. Recovering original ringtone:
Original_PhoneAPK_v20o.zip
Howto:
Apply zip in recovery. Rather harmless, but please make a backup!

greetings,
sorry for this general question
but I am lost between a lot of gingerbread roms available for the SGS
what is the most stable gingerbread rom that supports Arabic & has all major features working ?
thanks a lot,
Ahmed
Simply honey 3.2
Juwe's ROM 4.2
Although it's merely a matter of personal preference, you'll find many people here try many a ROM but do always go back to one, and in the process become quite loyalist (not a criticism because I am the same) :3
Testing the Ginger Criskelo Rom v45 on GB 2.3.3 after testing Darky's ROM v10 RC5 and stock JVB with different Kernels
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978354
Advantages:
it is deodexed, zipaligned and rootet, was very simple to install via CWM3, flashing ROM from SD-Card even on a non-deodexed SGS I.
works perfect for me, is fast, smooth, has a nice look with glassy notification bar and dial-screen and seems to be very stable.
Disadvantages:
Has just 3 minor bugs (email.apk needs to be set back to default and powercontrol bar needs to be set on launcher and requires a restart to work properly...these bugs are solved)
3rd bug: when I choose the folder for favorite contacts (contacts marked with a star) on homescreen the application crashes.
Somebody who uses Ginger Criskelo v42 or v45 has an idea to solve this problem? link or solution will be useful!
I like to thank Criskelo for his great work and this beautiful ROM!
you might also wanna check on CMy7 or miui. Great interface, smooth as silk and AOSP!
No best only users choice and GB is Beta not full release .

Hello,
I just bought a galaxy S from a friend. At the moment, the phone is running stock gingerbread.
1. Which rom and kernel would suite me? I do heavy texting and internet use. And normal gaming.I prefer customization and beauty and trying new lock screens. Which rom would be suitable for me?
2. Where can I find a guide/tutorial for installing custom rom and kernel??
3. When changing roms, if I back up my apps with titanium pro and restore on the new rom, they will work fine?
4. What are voodoo fix and lag fix?? DO I need to install them separately? And how do I install them?
Thanx alot.
i think u should try MIUI ROM IT HAS ALMOST 100S OF LOCKSCREEN THEMES.....FOR FLASHING ROM TUTORIAL GO TO Samsung galaxy s development forum there u will find everything....

If you want other things, you can try to use SEARCH function of the forum and you'll discover everything you want.
I started using CM9 and so far it looks good & stable . I have a few questions :-
1) How to find csc and how to change ?
I am not able to find some app in playStore which were earlier available. I believe its due to csc change after CM9 installation. Please advise if there is any other reason.
2) How to increase the size of letter in the stock keyboard ? I could not find it in the settings.
3) Voodoo sound did not work but I got it working after installing semaphore kernel. SGS flash kernel app did not work so I could not back up my stock kernel. If I have to revert to the stock kernel then should I just flash CM9 without wiping data ?
Is there a way to make voodoo sound work with stock kernel ?
4) Flipping & Scrolling on the screen is not very smooth, any suggestions on this
5) Stock music app does not have a search option (samsung's stock music app has a search which was very useful ) . Any other app from market which can provide this feature ?
Another issue : it started giving me low memory error even though the system showed a lot of free ram & internal memory. I had to move back to stock JW4.
I will appreciate if some one can help on the above questions/issues, that will help me in trying ICS ROM again.
Thanks in advance !
Hello,
Here's the hacked Phone.apk with ascending ringtone disabled for v20S ROMs.
The original Phone.apk file comes from Flix123's rebuild of the V20S.
Rom makers can use this hacked Phone.apk in their V20S-based ROMs freely, don't forget to give proper credit.
Phone.apk MD5: 0951d922b61a386358d46904449eb2f6
And for end-users who have already installed a V20S-based ROM, there's a flashable zip to replace your Phone.apk with the hacked one using CWM (thanks carburano for the first flashable zip for the V20Q version).
NicodroidAscendingRingtoneDisabler-V20S.zip MD5: 19f6514e3f7f44ed9765aa5504a937de
Have fun!
Thanks friend!

so I installed JB 4.1.2 and works great but I want to install the stock poweron bootanimation and the sound for my galaxy s i9000. I managed to get the samsung pulsar installed by downloading the .zip and putting it in the system/media. The only problmee /i have is the sound. I downloaded the stock power on sound and put it in the sysyem/etc, also tried the system/media, audio/ui but it didnt work. I read it was a kernel issue so i tried the Devil kernel, semaphore, and the install kernels on the ro. But that didnt work eather. Finally I read that it is the Jelly Bean problem itself.
Can the devs make it so we can customized the bootanimation and sound, I would love that so much.
