I recently updated to Rogers stock Android 2.2, flashed the speedmod kernel k12l so that I can have the BLN and now when I try to do voice over bluetooth in my car all I get is static. I've done a bunch of reading and this seems to be due to the use of the stock i896 modem with the i9000 based speedmod kernel, correct? (Even though the kernel page seems to say this is based on i897, I've read elsewhere that it's actually based on i9000)
So, in light of this, what modem should I be using on my Canadian Rogers Captivate i896? I understand that there are lots of differences between the modems, but is there a general one that just works (perhaps not squeezing every last drop of performance, but at least works)?
Thanks
Jason
You can try tljl3 I found it much better than some who suggested NKP1
i'm currently in the exact same situation right now, i just got my rogers captivate i896 couple days ago and i've already flashed the latest voodoo SpeedMod Kernel (K13E) cuz i want to apply the lagfix. now i'm getting all static noise whenever i'm using a bluetooth headset.
I'm wondering if the op did eventually solve this issue (bluetooth headset static noise) and how did you do it. Also i'd like to know what is the issue with the different modem driver that the OP mention in the first post?
i'd apperciate if anyone can point me to a direction as im very new to all of this.
Thanks
Just purchased a captivate with custom rom
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: I897UCJI6
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 jetaek.lee sep-11 #1
Build number: FROYO.UCJI6
Is this version solid? Seller say's he has had no problems with current set up.
he can load cognition 3.04, however I will have to wait several days.
This is my first venture with this type of phone that will be used for work continuously, i just need it to work smoothly, if current rom is sufficient no worries then.
Thanks for input.
That is the original Froyo leak and buggy as hell. You are better to get one of the more recent custom roms. Cognition is the closest Froyo for our Captivates as it's based on the Rogers release. Just flashed this, Cognition 3.04, today and I'm loving it!
Use it and see if your like it.

Update! Mobile AP just appeared after 2 reboots!
New issue... no outgoing voice on any calls incoming or outgoing..???
system will not let me post on the Dakry post in captivate.... Soooo
Upgraded from stock to 2.2.1 to Darky's... Question is:
Does Gingerbread or Darky's have the Mobile AP. I loved this when driving on the road with the kids.. they would access the internet from the laptops or psp's.. I do not see this option on this version.
Thanks.
Also Best Modem? i am in st louis, AT&T, and want the best modem.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Erbch
Does it matter which modem i have installed? i have the stock one that came with Darky's captivate version:

Baseband: I9000ugjk4,
Kernal 2.6.35.7-I900xwjvh-cl184813,

I use JK4 and im in new england. You might want to try JL2, JL3, or i think JK3 if there is one
Hello!
Earlier today I installed Gingerreal on my I9000. Everything works fine! The only problem seems that whenever I recieve a message from SMS or Whatsapp, my phone vibrates violently.
I already put it on the lowest settings in the settings menu but it doesn't change anything.
Please help me!
About my phone:
GT-I9000
Version: 2.3.3
Kernelversion: 2.6.35.7
Buildnumber: GingerReal-V5.0-Guerilla
Quick question, can I use i897 modem and kernel on an i9000 rom?
Just curious.

This actually seems logically possible.
If we can use a reoriented i9000 kernel + i9000 modem on a captivate rom, why can't we use a matching captivate modem+ kernel on an i9000 rom?
I thought the important thing is to match the modem and kernel...

You're right. As long as they match it's fine.
Well experimentation if the spice of life.

Well, accidentally I ended with this configuration:
ROM: Apex 9.2 (JVR)
KERNEL: Talon 4.4.22 (JVR)
MODEM: KH3
Teoretically this shouldnt be happening but everything seems to be working O.K. No Force Closes, WCDMA 850, average battery life, WiFi, etc.

you have always been able to run mix/match, until you need to make an actual phone call. no voice.

Yes I ran that combo until I got a phone call and the other person could not hear me and the volume was cutting in and out flashed back to JL2 all is good again
Running Dlevs 5.0, and latest talon kernel, modem JL2
As you can see from my signature I am still running 2.2 ROMs. I just prefer the stability, and have zero issues with both that I am using now on different captivates. One of them, Continuum 4.1 is and i9000 rom, using Onyx kernel with jk4, the other is the i897 Cognition, cog kernel, kb1.
I think, based on what I am reading here, I will try to intall the i897 modem and kernel on the Continuum 4.1 ROM. I really like this ROM but REALLY prefer the sound quality of the i897 roms because of the Audience chip.
I will experiment this weekend and report back. As of now, I prefer not to do this kind of experimentation with the GB roms. Anyone else interested in seeing how this turns out?

Hi Jack man,
if you are still considering flashing i897 kernel & modem , my captivate is still Froyo 2.2 stock (rooted), with the uckb2 modem and kernel 2.6.32.9. I already have a dump of the kernel (I checked is working) and could send you a dump of the uckb2 modem (unchecked, I'm unsure about flashing this one back, since I have the 100% battery shutdown issue and still considering a RMA) if you are willing to try.
Let me know,
Angel
Well, I experimented. Here's what I used and how it went.
I installed Continuum 4.1 (a froyo 2.2 rom) then flashed the Exist kb1 kernel along with the kb1 modem. I thought everything was going to be fine. Calls worked fine, data seemed ok but slower than I was expecting, but when I went to turn on wifi if just didn't work. I made sure it was't the router - my wife's phone was working fine on the router, along with a laptop on it.
it would also not connect to the neighbor's router either. Flashed back to Cog4.5.3 - wifi worked fine.
Too bad, because I really like the small features of Continuum 4.1
If anyone has any ideas to fix the wifi in this setup let me know. I would love to keep it.
