Hello there! It's been a week since I gt my SGSL and I jz found out that there were different launchers out there that we can use besides the original TWLauncher. I tried Launcher Pro +, ADW Launcher EX, Regina 3D Launcher... And I wanted to ask some questions about the launchers.
(i) Is it ok to have 4 launchers on my android? Including the original TWLauncher the others were Launcher Pro +, ADW Launcher EX, Regina 3D Launcher.
(ii) I installed those launchers without knowing it still runs in the running applications when u open application manager to check on them. So is it ok if I juz force close the 2 launchers? I'm using Launcher Pro + nw and TWLauncher can't be force closed rite? Will it drain battery life with those launchers running or shud I juz force close the ones I'm not using? I dun mind about little lagging and slow.
(iii) And yea I have like 2-3 widgets on 1 homescreen(am using a total of 7)with all the launchers so will this drain more battery life and is it too much? XD I love those widgets sooo much I dun wana giv up on them haha!
Any advice and suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thx a million guys~!
try custom rom you will love your device more.. but read carefully the instruction guide when installing custom rom so that you will not facing any problem..i recommend galnet miui if you like customizing your theme and the battery in galnet miui is better now with their new release..
notes
Search all in the forum threads
1) Check your 3-button combo (key combination)
you probably have it, since you got your device recently
if no, see how to get it working
if yes
2) Inside the device
- go to settings/ about -> at the bottom of the page check your firmware, it would probably will end in sth like XXJVN (where N is a number or a letter, eg. XXJVO, XXJV5)
- your OS will probably be 2.3.3 GB (GingerBread)
3) Go to dev section, read about odex, deodex, EZBaze for appropriate bootlader, then check out threads with [ROM] in the beginning for custom roms selection
Good Luck
P.S.
If there is anything you can think of asking, there is an answer for it in XDA props to them, and patience and determination for all those brave using the search feature lol
Thx for d reply guys. Yep I've searched about custom ROMS bt I'm still quite new to android I'm a lil confused bout custom ROMS lol... My fon version is 2.2.1 Froyo lol... Well if I install custom ROMS will it void my warranty??
So shud I follow the guide of custom ROMS thr? Cuz my fon is totally un rooted and not hacked lols... It's like a fresh start for me...
Try Zeam, lightweight and fast, no bugs....
Most hacks and mods will void your warranty. No one really answered your original questions, so here goes. I have run multiple launchers before, you can force close any you're not using. Don't try and uninstall the regular TWLauncher, it is your fallback. You can uninstall the other launchers any time, your system will just go back to using TWLauncher. It will drain your battery a bit more if you're running multiple launchers, but I never noticed a drain with just one. If you want to stay stock, do it. I'm on an almost stock rom right now and I'm happy with it. You don't need to flash a custom rom to like your phone.

True, but consider using a custom kernel though! And remove all these useless Samsung apps with Titanium Backup once your phone is rooted
About launchers, go launcher and launcher pro are very fancy and offer lots of possibilities. I personally use Zeam launcher, it's very light but you can't customise it much.

I agree, I wish I could find one that works on my i9000m stock. Everything made for i9000 international boot loops.
Go launcher I find works well with a lag fix running, or some other fix to make your phone run smoother.

Anything that works for i9000 will work for i9000m. They are identical excepting the 850mhz 3g radio.
I would advise against leaving 4 launchers installed... What's the point? It probably won't affect battery much tho, because the screen tends to eat the majority of battery on this phone in most use cases.

70% of it, on average, is by the display.
Then why oh why do I get so many boot loops? I used to use speedmod kernel but it loops too.

Lols ty guys. Guess I'll have to explore more n jz pared down to 1 launcher instead of 3 haha... Bt it's hard for me to choose zzz wonder y...

Touchwiz is basically the look of your phone ---
The status bar
The icons
The animations( okk they are stock android )
The menus ..settings ..anything and everything u see in a stock rom ( b4 u install anything ) is touchwiz
And custom roms like cm7 use different stuff
The status bar looks better
There are no crappy samsung apps ( though i like the keypad)
The whole ui is better
In short touchwiz sucks  anything thats not touchwiz rocks
P.S. its only my opinion ...and opinions are like a$$#oles --everyone has one
You know you are rooted when you use XDA more than FB

Modded touchwiz is awesome xD
Ya I agree..touchwiz is awesome
Simple
comparatively more functional in few areas
can be modded easily..!!
One thing i dislike with the TW is....it does not offer any good function (who needs Samsung Apps anyway ) . HTC Sense is much awesome than TW with functions like FriendStream:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:....

TW 4 is gangsta people
Defy-ing all limits.
It's Personal taste....
Well as mentioned earlier.....
ROMS and a$$h0l3s.....
Each has their own and like his own.....
Now some Prefer Cyanogen(Dev guys)....
Some Touchwiz(who prefer stock)....
and Some MIUI(iPhone junkies).....
Cyanogen has it's own plus points(Love the gestures everywhere and speeed).....
Touchwiz has it's own(Nice simple UI and no nonsense Dialer and task manager)....
and I don't have used MIUI (but I like the apps and the efforts put behind it)......
But some things are universal
Edit:this line doesnt refer to touchwiz emoboix
Whats sucks will always suck...you cant just change that ( touchwiz i mean)
Like if all of us say that froyo is better than ics ,the facts wont change ...what is better is better...
And touchwiz will suck for eternity
Period

All I know is Touchwiz ain't universal and I love the Touchwiz on the Galaxy Note
Um y'know, i prefer touchwiz.. it's simple and easy to understand.. i found some difficulties when first time using cyanogenmod.. and y'know, every thing has its own plus points ..

@chrcol - It's basically Samsung's user-interface. Deciding the ways in which your fingers can interact with their phones. Although roms have their own independent preset functionality, Touchwiz is the software that defines how you interact with that, like all the long-presses, page-switching, down to things like creating multiple home pages etc.

One of the biggest debates about getting ICS onto 'lesser phones' is that of Samsung not being able to fit Touchwiz 4.0 in with ICS on even a device as good as the Galaxy S. But as other posters have made clear, Touchwiz is not the 'be all and end all', even if it is very good; most importantly it is unique to Samsung, and they won't be renting out other peoples systems. I still don't see the problem with tweaking our current Touchwiz 3 though...

Some features are good.
I flashed the official CM7 on my Ace. Most things are nice. What I miss about Touchwiz is the Dialer, and also the Contacts: Swipe right on a contact to make a call, swipe left to compose a message.
Hey I was just wondering why this does not work .
Why can I not cross use different apks from different roms .
I am using Ice cold sandwich atm and the Camera application sucks on it , half the stuff doesn't work so I am forced to use a third party application.
I tried to access the app folder inside the "system.ext3.tar" which was found in one of my backup roms . ---> Created with CW MOD
I basically tried to take the working camera application and install it on my current rom but it crashes on startup, how do you actually go about doing stuff like this? What are the requirements ?
I just dont get why it does not work
I also hate the clock APK in the rom it does not have a world clock which I really need. I tried to again take the World Clock apk from another rom and it did not even install.
They were all from different icecream sandwiches but with sense 4 , the rom I am using does not have sense but I dont see how that would really affect this
Can someone explain to me how to cross use APK system files ?:good::good:
I believe you can't cross sense with aosp and aokp. If you want sense apps to work then port to a sense Rom. Your trying to put a square peg in a triangle hole.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
I cannor really explain it, but I know for sure that u can't use apk-files from sense or touchwhiz and use them on AOKP ROMs. It's just not possible. Same thing for widgets...

I don't think it would be *sense*
It hasn't been taken from a HTC rom, its just a clock thats themed to look like sense
like themed
A themed AOKP rom to look like sense is not a sense rom

I see thanks for all your help guys and if anyone can explain to me the technical aspect of not being able to cross APKS due to AOSP and AOKP
I am just curious as to the limiting factor

HTC apps require HTC framework and other HTC apps in order to work
So without the other apps, just come of them won't work
Most apps from other Roms, like Sony Ericsson and miui Roms will work, I have some of them
I think just Samsung and HTC apps won't work
But Samsung apps can be hacked

There are dependency on HTC framework for sense APk,thus causing sense apk not working at aosp/aopk rom.

Hi guys! I've been browsing a little the Development section and i'm really conflicted
i can't stand touchwiz, it's kinda useless and ugly, in facts i've been using nova launcher prime in the last months, and i really like PA and even stock (nexus) look. But Galaxy Note was meant to be used with the stylus, which i honestly enjoy, and i really like SNote and Paper Artist apps.
Is there a way to have a stock-looking ROM with SOME of the samsung apps? (sure not samsung account, they really messed something up with JB update battery-wise)
Thanks in advance and sorry for the bad english
As your question is a question, you should have asked it in Q&A.
No S-Apps will run on AOSP based ROMs (AOSPA, Super nexus...) or CM based ROMs. But you'll find alternative apps on the market or on xda to replace the (in)famous S-Note. Papyrus, memo beta, GNote, just to name a few.
really sorry for the wrong section, how dumb of me!
Thanks for the answer

To add some more you can use Google Keep or PicsArt for drawing. My best Rom is the MiUI because I like the iPhone UI.

IOS is not open source. So no way. Even if it is it is not possible.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Apart from the fact that it can't be ported, I think that we all love Android, mod it, customize it, the development and the porting of the ROMs and all other things,. iOS needs Cydia for mods, you can't change ROM, for example (and without mention the "serious stuff") if you want to change the keyboard you need Cydia, if you want to change battery icon or other icons you need Cydia, so for each change to the file system. And about iOS7? For now it can't be jailbreaked, so no Cydia, and no jailbreak=no party at all. It's just a my thought, then each one has their own tastes
The people would've probably ported over iOS 3/4/5/6 if it was possible
Catching my breath, letting it go, turning my cheek for the sake of the show
I expected a question about building an AOSP 4.4 lol
