Nexus One MMS User Agent - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if there is a method to fix the small and blurry multimedia messages on the Nexus One. I know GoSMS fixes this issue, but I like to use the stock ICS messaging app. so I was wondering if there is any fix for the user agent. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

[Q] SMS Pictures Missing

First off, I love my Bionic. It's awesome. I'm having problems with the stock SMS app and contact photos. I haven't been able to find a resolution after searching on Google and perusing the forums. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Elaborate on your problem. What is not working properly? Explain your issue more please and I'll try to help.

Sorry. Facebook contact photos show up in the contact and dialer apps, but not in the stock sms app. They also show up in Handcent. I'm not sure what to do..
Weird.
Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All>Text Messaging>Clear data
Try that and reboot.

I tried that, with no success.. Also I seem to hands been mistaken. Facebook contact photos only show up sporadically in contacts, and none show up in Text Messaging or in Go SMS Pro. I also have removed and added back my Facebook account. No solution as of yet.

UPDATE: It seems to be fixed after redoing the account setup. Facebook is slowly updating the photos. Thanks for your help!

[Q] Is the emoji on the Samsung Keyboard 'real' emoji??

So, I'm confused about the emoji on our phones.
It looks kinda like the emoji I'm used to, but did they re-skin all the icons to a new look?
And if it is emoji, why can't my wife see it on her Galaxy S4? And when I get emoji from my buddy's S4, all I see is a square.
I can send and receive the emojis from the keyboard fine. Are you using the ones where you long press the microphone button and pick the emoji keyboard?

Yup, those are the ones I am using.
Stock keyboard & stock texting app
EDIT:
So, when I send them to people with GoSMS, they can see the emoji. However, I can't see theirs.
Sending emoji to my wife's S4 (which just has the stock texting app) only show up as squares.

The phone sends the Samsung Emoji as MMS Messages thus anyone can see them... it does not covert iPhone Emoji to be visible... however since you are using GoSMS, go in the Play Store and download the GoSMS Emoji plugin and problem solved... you can send and receive real Emoji in GoSMS with it.
Ugh, I have no idea why after all these years no stock Android texting app has native emoji support. So I guess Samsung thought sending little pictures instead of integrating emoji was a good idea?
Idiots.
I used to use GoSMS on my S3, but I have no interest installing it again given all the ads and crap they've added. I guess I'll live with looking at squares when people send them to me.

Has anybody tried handcent? I know it has emoji capabilities. I am in the process of deciding which texting app I want to go with.

note 3 displays emojis just fine. and can send emojis. its built right in.
handcent works great
Since I have a houseful of women (wife, teenage girls) with Iphones, having Iphone compatible emoji support was a must. Handcent works great! just install the emoji plugin, and all will be great! No Ads, just a great client (especially since they fixed the MMS problem I was having with my Note 3/ATT).

Well, I guess it converts/displays some of them, but not very many:

If you go to the messaging app settings and click on input mode and put it to automatic it might fix your issue. I was sending blocks also but that fixed it.

Okay, I switched to that. It didn't change messaged from the past, but I hope that it fixes it going forward. I'll post back after I get some messaged from the next person that sends me some.

Try Chomp SMS. Using it now and everything works great. Make sure you install the emoji plugin and themes plugin too.

It appears (so far as I can tell) that this indeed was the issue.
Thanks!!

I have used handcent in the past. That along with GO and Chomp I'm sure they all 3 work fine. I would like to keep using the stock app because of multi window. Is that silly of me? Am I missing out by not using a 3rd party app? Thanks for all the advice everybody!

If you are rooted you can use the multiwindow manager app and add any of the 3rd party apps to it. I've done it with Chomp before.

[Q] What SMS and Keyboard Are You Using?

I have been away from Android for a few months but I'm no noob. However, I don't know what the "go to" apps are any more. Mainly SMS app and Keyboard. I'm currently using Hangouts and SwiftKey but I'm not sure if that's the most efficient. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I've been using TouchPal for my keyboard for a while and highly recommend it. For SMS, I rely on the stock Messaging app but I'm not on KitKat yet.
I'm on Kit Kat and I like Hangouts but I wish it had more features like many stock apps. I'm so inaccurate with the stock keyboard but I like the built in emoji.

I'm still on 4.2.2 and using 8sms and Swype.
8sms is basically stock except it adds the action buttons in the notification area like sms from CM.
SwiftKey and Hangouts
Textra for texting
stock keyboard
Hangouts and Google Keyboard.
Will be using SwiftKey and MySMS. It's all that I use on my Maxx and Nexus tablets.

[Q] gosmspro paid premium version

Curious to know who uses gosms...if you use gosms...is it worth upgrading to use the premium version???
How does it compare to the stock messaging on the ATT note3?
Thanks
I've been wondering the same thing
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
they have some cool themes,I always used to use handsent,I'm curious why do you guys prefer other sms apps over stock mms app? I always get worried that I won't receive texts with 3 party mms apps.
Seems like the New version of go sms you can send video now. Up to like 10 megs
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
isn't there already modded stock sms apps with larger file support? I seen some somewhere I'll try to find them.and post back
Just use Hangouts. Best SMS app there is, just my humble opinion. Although it would be nice to get like a darker theme to it.
Eh doesnt google rule enough with the note3?
How good is the mms support as far as sending video through hangouts?
Can you send an existing video?
Thats one of the biggest knocks I have coming from an iphone to andriod you cant send video via mms...I guess because there is no imessage and apple has a way to compress the video so they can send via mms protocol
Edited...
I just tried hangouts...you cant send existing video. When you do send video, you have to make a video on the spot through hangouts and hangouts degrades the video quality. I think it sucks...
kinda sucks...
I use the premium GOSms, its okay. I like it a lot more than the stock app. I hate TW messaging. I was happy to upgrade to get rid of the ads on the free gosms

Text Message App?

Just wanted to see what app people are using... I don't like how we can't customize the stock app like years past...

I us googles messenger.
I'm using the Verizon messenger. I like the fact that I can send MMS over wifi while on the phone, especially since you can't have data while on the phone.
I am using the Google Messenger app for sms and mms. It's the best out there and so simple. Beast part is that you can send or receive mms or group messages through wifi too
I am currently using Textra. in between SMS apps though.

That's weird. I am not having those issues.
I'm using 8sms, you can go dark or light, and it works flawlessly. Also gives you that aosp holo blue dark look.
Currently using Hello SMS. I love the simplicity of it. Having it in tabs is also a plus. I don't have any MMS issues with this app either. Textra is a good one too, but I would have occasional MMS issues.

Another vote for the new Google Messenger. Substantially improved and I really like the Material Designyness of it
I use Hangouts, not the best but as I do as much or more instant messaging as texting and often with the same recipients the merged threads are an overriding benefit that keeps me coming back to it.

I agree, Textra all the way.. I did like the material design aspects of google's messenger, but the overall customization of Textra is hard to beat.. I really liked Textra when I had a notification led.. but sadly that isn't available on the Turbo
I had major MMS issues while using Textra. I like the app, but not being able to send pics was a bummer.
