Swype gone - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got a minor firmware update for my Note. Now Ive lost swype. When I choose swype as input setting, no keyboard pops up. When I go to swype settings nothing happens.

Have you change language?
try changing it.

Yeah I tried that. The regular samsung keypad works fine but I miss the ability to use Swype

Changing keyboard

I recently flash from cognition to firefly. It is a great rom. I just don't like the flat keyboard or how you delete apps. How do I fine a new keyboard and change these things I don't like. Could someone talk me through it?

find a keyboard you like in the market, and in setting ->locale, set it to the default.

Biggest problem for Atrix HD. Solution?

Given 4.1.1 is probably going to be the very last update for AT&T Atrix HD users (Bell guys are lucky with the 4.1.2!), what are we gonna do about this bug? Are we stuck with this problem for good?
In 4.1.1 whenever you switch your default keyboard to any other keyboard (say, SwiftKey or even Swype), the third party keyboard gets disabled on reboot and the OS will switch to the default/stock keyboard. This is not the end of problems.
There is the annoying status bar notification for changing input methods every time the keyboard opens. The only way to disable this from popping up is to have only one active input method. Given the stock keyboard cannot be unchecked in settings, the only way to have only one keyboard that you want (say, SwiftKey for example) is to freeze/disable the stock keyboard app leaving SwiftKey as the only available input method.
Normally, this would work fine. But in 4.1.1, because the OS disables the third party keyboard and tries to reset back to the default keyboard on reboot, when it can't find it, goes into a crash loop leaving factory reset from the recovery as the only option of making the phone usable.
Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this particular conundrum?
Here is the solution I have found:
-install swiftkey from market
-use titanium backup root to backup the app
-uninstall the app
-restore backup (app only)
However, this is only a workaround and every time SwiftKey app or language updates, the OS disables SwiftKey on reboot and defaults to the stock keyboard. So, don't disable the stock keyboard for now unless you want to risk a factory reset every time SwiftKey app or data updates through the market. This workaround also doesn't address the problem of having the annoying input devices prompt in the status bar every time you use the keyboard.
More ingenious ideas / suggestions welcome.

I have 4.1.1 and use swype as my keyboard. It has never once switched back to the default keyboard on a reboot. I have not having this issue at all.
I have 4.1.1 on my Atrix HD and I use SwiftKey 3. Never had this problem.

I don't have this issue, and I switch keyboards depending on the number of hands I'm using! Another friend with an Atrix HD also does not face this issue...

I just rebooted and SwiftKey 3 is still my default keyboard. I guess I am just lucky.

Did you install SwiftKey 3 from the Play Store before you upgraded from ICS to JB OTA? If yes, that is expected.
But if you installed the app afresh in JB or updated the app or language after you had upgraded to JB, you would have this problem.
Swiftkey Flow, Swype, Swype Beta 1.3, Smart Keyboard Pro...everything works fine without having the issue you're facing!

Like mentioned on the link above, a lot of people are facing. Did you install them all afresh in 4.1.1?
Try uninstalling all of them from the Play Store today, reinstall them again from the Play Store and see if it still works.

That might explain it! I installed SwiftKey as soon as I could when I got the phone!

When I reboot, not only do I lose my SwiftKey 3 keyboard, but my phone removes any active widgets I have on any of myscreens. AT&T sent me out another HD, andit still happens?!?!

This is a confirmed issue for all paid apps in 4.1.1.
Google has, however, corrected it in 4.1.2.
Only fix is to run a custom rom.

Default keyboard not staying set

I have both Swift and Slideit keyboards and have managed to set the slideit keyboard as the default keyboard, however whenever I turn the phone off and back on or sometimes not even that, the keyboard defaults back to the Sense keyboard. This is the first sense keyboard that I really do NOT Like at all but cannot get rid of. Is there anyone else that is having the same issue?

For some reason there was an Indic keyboard on mine. All kinds of strange symbols on the keys. And for some reason it kept turning it on. I finally disabled it in Apps which seems to have fixed the problem and my Swiftkey keboard is staying as default
I had the same issue with Swype. Fixed it by making it a system app.

Same issue in hox and hos with Jelly...
But you can resolve with a freeze of HTC_IME.apk...
In hox rom works fine

Unfortunately Swype has stopped working. Any ideas?

Swype came installed on my phone, so it's all I really know as far as keyboards goes. It's always worked, but not sure what happened, but when I press the microphone it says "Unfortunately Swype has stopped working" and only option is to hit OK and it closes.
Any ideas what to do?
When this happens to me, I navigate to Settings - Apps - All (scroll to the right) - find Swype. Scroll down and click clear data.

Thanks! That partially solved my problem. While the microphone button works now, clearing the data made Swype look totally different and I can't find a way to get it to look like it did. Is there a spot for themes or something somewhere? I would like it to appear as it did when I bought my phone.
There's a settings icon on the keyboard.. when I go in there it brings up "HTC Sense Input Settings". Maybe it's not using Swype? Not sure how to get it back on. If I go into Settings, Language & Keyboard, I can find Swype settings. It says it's using Classic theme.

Go back to where you found that Swype was using classic theme and tap it. This will take you to where you can change your theme.

It's set as classic. I tried to change it to Silver then back to Classic no luck. The keyboard doesn't even look like any of the themes shown, so I'm guessing it's not using Swype. Not sure how to get it back.
Lemme reboot the phone and see what happens.
Not working.. it definitely is a different keyboard.. because I can't "swype" to type words.. just not sure how to get Swype to come back as default for everything.

Ok..... Open up a text message and get to the point where your HTC keyboard Pops up. From there, swipe down from the top of your screen where it shows what applications you have running. You should see "Choose input method." Tap on that and you should be able to change input method to Swype.

I love you long time. I'll keep both of these in my mental file. Solved.

[Q] How to set Swype as default

Ok I have changed in settings keyboard and language to swype but it keeps reverting back to the google keyboard I prefer Swype but cannot get it to stick any one have any suggestions??
Go into a text input field in any app so that the keyboard comes up. Next, swipe down the notification bar and in the list you should have an item that says "choose input method". Tap on that and change your keyboard. See if that sticks.

Go into the settings for Language and Input.
There's an area to specify which of your keyboards should be the default one.
Select Swype there and you're golden.
Thanks guys it still reverts back though
I use an app called SwiftKey which seems quite a bit more accurate compared to Google Swype and it does your dictionary in the cloud if you ever change phones.
