So my Note only reboots itself in my pocket. Whenever i bend down to pickup my dog or crouch down.
Ive tried pressing buttons and squeezing the device in my hands to see if any pressure or buttons pressed force the phone to reboot but nothings does it.
Is there a button combination to make the device reboot?
If i hold down the power button i only have the Power Off option. No Reboot option on this rom.
Anyone have any idea what this is? It has never rebooted itself outside my pocket.
Thanks
Neil

It could be a really long press of the power button. I use that to get unstuck from whenever I manage to get it stupidly frozen with the apps I'm developing...
Try it, but keep in mind it should be close to 6 seconds or more.
Yep, long press on the power button will reboot your phone.
I could make so many off-colour remarks here, but I shall restrain myself. The long press of the power button is doing it (as suggested).
Oddly, I had a strange issue where having the screen in toward my thigh caused a press on the screen activating the speaker when on a call. As I was connected to the 'phones, it was irritating. I now keep the screen facing away from me to avoid this. I dislike exposing the screen to potential damage in this way, but thin jeans pockets make it a requirement.
I have exactly the same issue - I was just in the garden and my phone rebooted three times in about five minutes while inside my trouser pocket. There's nothing else in my pocket except a hanky, so how does the power button get pressed?
Like others, I too have the screen towards my thigh. It's happening so often recently that my three old son asks me every time what my phone is doing in my pocket!
I've never known a phone with such badly positioned buttons - fiddly to use volume controls, and now this - it's just really crap design. :-(

interesting...
but to get the power button depressed while in the pocket is very unlikely for me.
Do you guys keep your vibration on as well?

Hi, I cleaned the screen of my HTC Diamond with a bit of alcohol and a pice of tissue and it seems that the alcohol got inside of the Power button. Now, every time I try to turn the screen on by touching the power button, it turns the screen on but it dispays a message that says: "Warning: Power will be turned off and you may lose data if you have not saved them. Do you want to continue?"
If I click YES, it reboots the phone, If I click NO, then its ok. That is fine, but the problem is when I want to turn the phone off. It's impossible. It will keep trying to reboot.
Does anybody know what can I do? I am really worried.
One solution could be to make some other button from the phone to act as the power button (like the Home button that is rarely used). How can I do that?
Please help!!!!
Thank you
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Did you already find an answer ?
No, I didnt find the solution. I tried to fix the hardware but didnt succeed. So, I created a dummy file to emulate the poweroffwarning.exe that pops up when you long press the power button.
Solution
Hello, I have one AT&T TITL 8925 that upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5
After the new software was loaded I saw same behavior on my phone.
When the phone is ON and I pressed the power button sometimes it do not respond, and others I received the warning message "power will be turned off and you may lose data if you have not saved them..." My first tought was that it is because the processor is slow to this new software release, or maybe my phone is damaged. I was working perfectly with previous (light version) release so my final guess is that this sw requires more uses of the processos.
Anyways what I have been doing is before turing it off I press the red button or hang up button, and after this if I press the power button it works fine (No more warnings). I have some theories but I will keep doing the same
Hope this partial solution helps you as it does for me.
Regards
Jerry
this is not working for me :| the problem is i can't use my power button not even to open my display when it goes to sleep :|:| i don't know what to do guys please help me
You can use the Stylus to awake the phone, instead of using the power button. You can also use TouchLockPro, to suspend the device, so you do not need the power button for that too.
Also you can set the phone to awake on pressing any key (Windows Mobile Setting), but be sure to have a good locking tool, which makes sure you do not have bogus calls and it goes to sleep again fast enough, otherwise it will drain battery.
I have the same problem.
Anyone solved this one?
I have the same issue and this is not a hardware problem. Strange since even updates/changes of the rom do not correct the issue. Did anybody find a solution for this...?
Well.. ive had this problem just ones.. I was walking downtown with my diamond in the frontpocket of my jeans (face down), after about 3min. of walk, it started to rain (big drops), and my clothes got completely wet, i turned around emidietly, to walk back to home. When i got home after 3 more min. i layed the phone on the table, and then i could hear there were somethibg wrong.. The "turn off" sound came, and the notification kept on coming up, even though i pressed No, as if i were just holding the power button down.. Then i began to press the power button continuesly for about a 100 times, and to my surprise then it stopped and have functioned perfectly for about 2 month now.. Something tells me theres some serius promlem with the smallest kind of moisture near the power button on this phone..
Yes this is hardware related.
If you take a look at the inside of the powerbutton, there are 2 points making contact when you press the button.
If you press it, the software will recognize this and the screen will turn off.
If you press it long enough you'll get the "Do you want to turn off your device" message.
But, if water gets underneath the button, the 2 points may be making contact, because water/alcohol conducts.
In this way you'll get that message.
The button is very weak. Due to this, it may not properly work if you have used it for a long time.
I think that could also be a reason why you constantly get that message.

Hi! on one of my diamond, the power button off from the board. So the black little board with the button itself is not part of the complete circuit anymore... if someone know the hw testpoint for that it would great please.... i see a few TP around, but if i just start sorting them i just going to kill it...I use to flash phones with TP so is not new for me , but i find nothing for diamond.
I have a similar issue. Mine seems like it is almost stuck on, so it wakes its self up all the time, meaning a full charge lasts an hour or two. Then when it runs out of battery it tries to switch itself back on, so goes through a continuous cycle of vibrating and beeping until the battery is removed. The gf finds it very annoying at 3am lol.
Don't recall mine getting wet, but it's possible it could have got damp at some point, but it's been doing this now for about 3 weeks.
Tried a hard reset with no luck.

I think I should send it to HTC, and ask them to do it. Or go to a repair centre. But I should not try it myself, because it can be dangerous for the diamond.
Also try searching on ebay, there might be the parts you could use.
Good luck!
is there a way to remap the power button?
my diamond face same problem since this afternoon, arrrrgghhhh!!!

My Sony X1 have some strange problems with the power button. When it goes into sleep mode, I can not wake it up with the power button, all I can do is to soft reset. Sometimes it does not go into sleep mode either , it just "wake up" all the time. I don't know what's wrong with it, tried Hard reset but no use .
ANyone had this problems before?
@
The only way to solve this is to leave the phone near your laptop heat vent ( fan) . hot air from it might help you to get the power button up and running. But if that to doesn't work then i'm afraid thats bad.
Current sol :
1. download SU2U ( search threads )
2. go to the settings and make the " lock when stylus inserted" option ON
3. Change the screen turn off time to 5 secs..
So , to unlock , remove stylus , to lock -> insert it back ( its turns off the back light within 5 sec )
Less annoying

Hello all,
I got my phone when they first came out on Jan 5th and have just ran into my first issue. It seems that the power button has become really hard to press (like it is lower than it used to be). I have to press down just right to get it to register. I know that others have been having power button issues and was wondering if anyone has ran into this? Any suggestions on actions to take? What were others peoples power button issues?
Thanks
Yea, I started to use No lock from the market its free. With this program you can use the trackball to unlock you phone or bring it from sleep mode you will not have to use the power button as often.
Hope this helps
Is your button hard to press or just not registering?
Sometimes I would have to push it more then once. So I don't believe its really hard to push but, more so just not registering all the time.
It's not to often I had that problem. but, I did notice you have to use the button alot so I didn't want to wear it down.
Mine used to be like that and then eventually it became extremely hard to press. Practically took 10-15 tries using force to get it to turn on. I sent it back to HTC and now it's more responsive than when I first got it. Took about 4 days total.
Leo Laport's nexus's power button broke. Just send it back.
It could be just dust under the power button. I just took off the back cover and blew at the space under the power button. It's working every time now. Worth a shot before you send it in anways.
I have the same issue, hard to press and sometimes not registering at all.
Unfortunately trackball wake is not available for froyo yet. This would be a fine workaround for me.
I was having problems with the power button not working well, but it seems to be much better under the new FRF72 Froyo build.

+1 on the excellent suggestion.
The rear battery cover is integral to the power button assembly. It keeps it aligned on the fore aft axis. So dust and crap therein seems to restrict it at times. If you have power button issues, at very least remove the battery cover to see if releasing the friction it creates improves things. The power button becomes somewhat wobbly and loose with the rear cover off.
I flashed this rom ( Sprint_HTC_One_1.31.651.2_Stock_Rooted ) . Phone booted and touch screen stopped working. I'm in a rough situation because the phone also will not reboot. I've tried holding all buttons, just the power button, the power and volume down button. No resolve. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this phone reboot (besides waiting for battery to drain lol )so I can try to install another rom and see if touch screen comes back. Thanks
You need the newest firmware it sounds like

I cant do anything with the phone though because its stuck on the lock screen. Cant touch anything and cant get it to reboot
Oh and I accidently posted in the wrong section... wasn't sure if I should just leave it up or delete it
Just ask the dev to move it....hold the power button and volume down then release power after about 7 secs and press it again but keep volume pressed the whole time to get to boot loader then go to recovery from there

that would work great if the phone was off...but the phone is on the lock screen... When I hold the buttons It counts down 3....2.....1 then hangs at 1.. Ive held the buttons for over a minute no dice..... It seems the only way to reboot is through ADB but I cant allow my computer to connect to the phone because of the screen being locked... wish there was another way to reboot this phone without waiting for the battery to die

Hold the power button until the home/recent apps buttons at the bottom stop blinking...if it reboots let go of the power and hold vol down this will get you to the bootloader
If it does not reboot press the power and let it start to reboot and hold vol down
The buttons just continue to blink.. no reboot just stuck at lock screen

If you hold the power button down long enough it will power down or reboot
I held the power button down for over 2 minutes... should I hold it longer? Here's what happens, after holding the power button... on about 5 seconds in a message pops up and says continue holding power button for reboot. I continue to hold it and a count down starts.... goes from 3 to 2 to 1.... the phone just stays at one no matter how long I hold the power button in for

Yeah tried that... pretty much tried all button combinations for all amounts of length....this is how stumped I am. I've been a member on this site for years and I think this is the first time I ever had to post a question about a phone. I seem to always find an answer but this time I just couldn't I'm baffled as to what can be happening and why this phone wont reset.
Yeah I mentioned that in an earlier post. I cant adb because I cant unlock the phone to allow the computer to be trusted by the phone... I have the phone sitting on the table with a piece of tape holding the power button in causing the screen to stay on and keep the endless countdown going... hoping that kills it quick..... I guess that's the solution to this problem if anyone else may happen to come across the same thing lol

How did you get yourself into that situation, lol. This is why I slightly perfer the Galaxy's because you can just pop the battery off. I get a HTC and just try and do as little as possible, and quad check everything.
Did you get it done atleast?

When you are holding the power button down and it starts to count down shine a flashlight at the light sensor to the left of the speaker on the top (or hold it under a bright light). I had this happen to me before where it wouldn't simulate the battery pull. Just sat there. Apparently the phone has a built in defense to not reset in low light situations in case you accidentally hit the power button while the phone is in your pocket. The flashlight on the sensor trick works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314952
Anyone having issues with power button being stuck? When I press the power button, it often gets stuck and phone reboots because of it. It's happened over 15 times today... It's getting quite annoying. I didn't spill anything or drop the phone, the power button just sticks and I have to keep pressing to get it unstuck... The volume buttons are fine though.

No problem here. If it were me, I would get the device replaced.
Hmmm. Yea. I'm gonna call them tomorrow. Still debating whether to return it or exchange it... I've been a little disappointed with battery life. Hmmm..
I am also having issues with my power button. It used to click when pressed like the volume buttons. Now I feel no click action at all. It still powers on the phone and screen but I feel that it is only going to get worse. makes me worried. No body else having this issue?
Not me, at least
The volume buttons on my Nexus 4 do the same thing although it happened much later in its life. If you can I would advise getting it replaced because its very annoying to say the least.
Mine just started this.
Last night I noticed my screen wasn't turning off after pressing the power button. All it would do was act like I was holding the power button with the intention of turning the phone off. one time it actually did turn off. This sucks. I'll be going by the Verizon store next time it happens. (because the phone is behaving completely normal right now)

i just received this phone as a motocare replacement for one with a cracked screen. it feels like they sent me a refurbished one someone spilled soda on. i kinda feel like a jerk sending it right back, but the constant resetting sure is annoying! i'm ready to send the phone in, but would much prefer to fix it myself if there's a way to do it. any way to fix it?
edit: nevermind. i sent it back. they sent it like this, they can deal with it. i'm afraid if i mess with it, i'll kill the warranty. still 100% love the phone and can't wait to get it back!!

same here with the power button... one of it's sides is down. but it doesn't look like it's stuck. I can manage to put it on the right position again easily. It's more like if's loosing the tension...
Me too. Used to have a great feeling click to it. Not sure how long it's been bad, but noticed it a week ago. At times i can't feel it might at all. On a few occasions it's got stuck for long enough to bring up the power off menu.
My volume up is perfect. My volume down isn't so clicky any more, but nothing like the power key. It seems with volume down that now I've noticed and started writing this I've fixed it by pressing repeatedly. Didn't work for power...
I've just watched to this video where she disassemble the moto x:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dweww9_RF2E
At 13:40 we can see the button mechanism. It's an ordinary plastic membrane that offers the resistance for those buttons. I think the metal buttons are just too heavy for the kind of membrane that Motorola used on this... The curious thing is that I press the power button half of the times that I should press on an ordinary smartphone, because I always wake it up with the Moto Screen stuff...
Anyway.. I don't think there is a way to fix it without sending it to repair. They will probably disassemble it, change the membrane and send it back to you. And unless they change it for a more resistant membrane, nothing will prevent the issue from appearing again...
