When I upgraded to ICS, I (and everyone else) lost the built-in voice dialer in Android 2.3.4. See the Vivid General forum for details on this. I tried Vlingo, and it worked okay most of the time, but it required a lot of steps. So, I tried Cyberon Voice Commander and was pleased with how well it worked and how closely it matched the original voice dialer when connected to my car's audio system via bluetooth. See my post for more details.

There may be other apps that work, so I am not saying this is the only one.

Yes, I saw posts on that. However, because of all the "crash and burn" posts from people trying to install custom ROMs, I think I'm going to wait a while. There is still too much transition right now between GB and ICS, and with S-Off possibly coming "soon."
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That is due to people not understanding the process of flashing a ROM, kernel, etc. There are video guides, written directions, and people who can help to flash correctly. It is real simple if you read and know what to do.

No issues here, although I have posted a lot to help others who are having trouble! I can understand how with limited knowledge it can be scary to root your phone, flash a rom, etc. but only if you didn't read up on what you are doing and rush through the steps. Before I got this phone I read about the steps and then when I got it felt comfortable and did everything. I know enough now that if something did happen I could get out of the problem without help.
To each his own IMO, if he wants to wait its the choice he's made ... But I do believe that myself , MEGATRON and most of WC'S illegitimate children could update h-boot or flash a new Rom blindfolded or heavily intoxicated lol, its gotten that easy
I've flashed the phone two times, unlocked and rooted. It has become much easier. I frankly don't want to set the phone up again.
Also, with custom ROMs you usually trade one problem for another. They usually aren't perfect.
BTW, thanks megatronisabeast for all your help to others.

I hate to grave dig old topics but this is really bugging me. Again, I have stock ICS so dialed in. I am trying to avoid flashing.
Skyvi has actually come a LONG way towards becoming a Siri-esque app. It just won't wake or activate from a BT headset.
What is everyone lease doing? Flashing custom ROM?

Not sure if this is what you were originally after but hope it helps.

I tried Cyberon Voice Command, but, while I can activate it by bluetooth, I still have to speak directly to the phone. Tried with different bluetooth sets, still the same. Will try VSP.
Thanks.
Hey frustrated voice dialing crew!
Last night I stumbled upon Voice Control by Luka Kama. There's a free version called Voice Control Test.
Its contact recognition is pretty accurate. It can also do voice to text. For me, the downside is it tries to do too much. It is expanding to Siri-like functionality which I find pointless. It also has a LED graphic like Knight Rider's KITT which is retro-wierd.
+1 for the Knight Rider reference

I put this in the General section because there is no development going on with this at all (in this thread keep an eye open in dev section for a rom built from this base). If mods want to move it to Dev section then so be it, but there is nothing else being done to this zip.
THIS IS A PURE STOCK TELSTRA SENSE 3.5 build. It has been rooted, deodexed, zipaligned, but nothing else has been done to make it any better. it still has all the Telstra bloat, and horrible wallpapers.
this is not designed for people to flash willy nilly, if you dont know how to fastboot the boot.img on it, then it will not work for you, and i will not hold your hand in doing so. all this is, is a stock base, CWM flashable for anyone to use as they please. if you dont know how to do any of this stuff, then leave it alone and let someone else do the hard work for you, but dont complain about anything. nothing in this zip has been optimized for the vivid or canadian raider.
i have attached the boot.img in a zip file to this post, you HAVE to fastboot flash the boot image before you can flash the rom in CWM. if you dont know how, you better google that ish.
i am not responsible for stupidity. i have flashed this onto my phone 30 times already in various stages, so it is somewhat usable in its current form, but needs a lot of tweaks and changes.
thanks to bananacakes for his updater-script, and binary, as the one i was originally trying to use didnt like me and i didnt want to waste time on it.
again...i repeat. this is not for you if you dont know how to make it work. this is not a hand holding thread, and i am not supporting this

not only that, it moves your mailbox from one voicemail system to another, so you lose any saved messages, all your greetings. Pain in the ass, not worth it.
Holy cow, bloatware in the stock HTC apps?! Dang. I can't believe that it's actually worse than ATT.
Looks like RRb5 took care of most of it; I'd still like to see some Sense 3.5 Beats music up in there, though. I figured out how to "port" it between Sense 3 ROMs, but efforts to port to 3.5 failed as they completely redid the music app for that.
Going to temporarily roll back to Sense 3 for now, till 3.5 is fully debloated. Great ROM though, Pirate!

Maybe find some way to get the ME863 dialer?

Nope, sorry, because I didn't install the ROM from anywhere. I bought the phone on the airport in Taiwan so it was stock ROM for me. I tried messing around with bootstrappers etc. and it's a bit screwed up now, no idea if I'd be able to extract something useful from it. Weird, got hit by the trial end as well but installing the other ersion worked fine. Anyway it doesnt seem to work fully for me, only captures from the mic.
I got screwed up by the stupid AT&T update... it only half finished. I don't know why. I kept telling it NO, not to update. But at some point it must have on a reboot. In the update section it says, "Continue update" but clicking that does absolutely nothing.
UNFORTUNATELY, now I have NO WIFI and NO BLUETOOTH. Can't see any wifi routers now, and can't see any bluetooth devices. UGH! DAMN AT&T! I didn't even ask for an update. SO....
HELP ME PICK A ROM!
I used to flash ROMs on my older PocketPC phones... I flashed a Gingerbread ROM on my Galaxy Tab, and I flashed a ROM on my HTC Aria.
So tell me what your opinions are about some ROMs. Here's some features I'd like to have:
- ICS
- Newest Sense
- HTC's button dial command and voice dial that was left out of ICS (bastards).
- Native wifi hotspot
If there's a ROM that combines that and is STABLE, tell me about it! I want opinions.
There's really only one option and it's not on xda.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Are you just gonna leave me hanging with that?
I'm by no means an expert, but I've recently taken the dive into helping a friend with his AT&T Vivid. After looking around at all the ICS ROMs out there, the one I settled on was Extreme Holiday Dream X2...doesn't have the newest sense version, but it's running 3.6, so it's fairly recent. Also (again, not an expert), I'm not sure any newer version of sense would work on the Vivid.
Now as a heads up, most people don't seem to have issues with the ROM (and it is a very nice one), but we have had some problems that may or may not be related. First is WiFi constantly attempting to turn on and never working, which I think I've narrowed down to the fact the ROM uses the stock kernel, so I'll be attempting to fix that tonight.
Other problem is the ROM Toolbox not working, though I think that may be linked to the way I rooted the device since SU isn't giving permissions to it (set to auto-allow). That I'll be attempting to fix with SuperSU.
I know this ROM is stable for just about everyone else so far (no actual known bugs), but I don't know if it meets your last two prerequisites, since I'm not really all that familiar with Android devices in general yet. I'll ask my friend and see if he knows.
Due to my permissions right now as a new member, I can't link you to it, but you should be able to find it by googling. The thread I found was on rootzwiki.
Hope this helps. If I find out more about the button dial/voice dial and native WiFi hotspot support, I'll let you know.
EDIT: So I asked about the features, seems like it has the button dialer and native WiFi Hotspot, but not the voice dialer. I'm sure there's an app for it, but it's not native.

Hi all,
My first post, and as of yesterday my first custom ROM. Despite some sweaty moments it worked fine thanks to the guidance on this forum and some leaps of faith Can't reply to the relevant thread directly since I'm n00b.
Was very happy with this, however one killer issue that's meant I've had to revert to stock is that Google Talk (installed via GApps link with the ROM) crashes to desktop (no FC dialog) when i attempt to use voice or video within it. Skype seems to work fine though. Anyone else experienced this? I haven't seen it previously reported on here which makes me think maybe I didn't clear something properly (I used cwm recovery 5.5.0.4 to wipe cache, factory reset and clear dalvik prior to flash). I tried repeating the entire upgrade twice from scratch but same issue is still apparent.
Thanks for the coolness and hopeful for some help and further development.

Hey.
You're not the only one. I have the same issue with Google Talk. I, like you, thought that I wasn't installing something right. I even went as far as using an outdated gapps package, namely 20120726, to no avail. If you've gotten help with this, please let me know. Otherwise, I have no idea what else to do. As far as 3G, my tablet is the WiFi only, so I can't help you there.
With the usb, have you tried turning on the MTP setting? When you connect the tablet, go to settings>storage> and in the upper right hand side of the screen, if you press on the 3 dot things, you are going to see USB computer connection. press that and you will see the option to turn on MTP. I hope this helps.

Great Rom, but a few glithes
Hi,
I used the 12.12.12 build for one full day and I must say that the rom is fast and smooth.
There are 2 things that bother me at the moment:
1. ringtone rings only once and will not loop. I tried most from the list. I now use a looong music as ringtone and temporarily "solve" the problem;
2. cannot sync exchange mail...just showing "Waiting for sync" screen forever. I am sure I have the right settings. Gmail is fine though.
I performed a FULL WIPE before installing the rom. Am I missing something here?
Edit: I didn't have these issues in PA.
Thanks.

I've been spoiled by the HQ camera mod. Hopefully 1080p recording will get sorted out (patiently waiting) and I'll be on board full time...then maybe a few changes to the media_profiles.xml will make the camera perfect.
Thanks for all the work so far though I am impressed with everyone's efforts.
Im On 12 14 but I just added my exchange account without a hitch..signed mess as and calendar like I told it to. Also just got a phone call that rang til I missed the call. Maybe a bad flash?

Hi,
1. ringtone rings only once and will not loop. I tried most from the list. I now use a looong music as ringtone and temporarily "solve" the problem;

If your ringtones are mp3 files they might not loop....I've found ogg ringtones to work fine though.

Thank you for the advice.
Instead of struggling with exchange sync and ringtone no loop, I finally installed 12.14.12 from scratch.
Problems solved!
Great Rom.

ASAP? Cause the conversation you're having in that text is so important? Please don't PM me asking to look at something ASAP, especially when it's something as trivial as that.
Next time I have PAC flashed, I'll look at it, and I'll let you know. I know that I've gotten MMS in all my builds, and not once has the pic overlapped the text like that - so I would assume it's something local on your device. I won't be able to tell 100% til I have PAC flashed though. I'll flash it ASAP...
Also, in forums like this, if someone has an answer, they'll answer you. If they don't know, instead of posting a useless "I don't know" post, they don't answer. I saw this earlier, and once I had an answer I fully planned on providing it. Instead, I was forced to issue this reply.
OK thanks and I am sorry

I just flashed and tested, and saw the same as you. I tried a couple of things with no success, so I may have to look into it a little deeper. Just curious, have you tried a 3rd party messaging app like handcent or gosms? Do they behave the same way?
I just flashed back to AOKP and the same thing is happening. Maybe I hadn't received any MMS before, I could have sworn I had. I'll flash CM later and see if it's doing it too, at least that will tell me if it's something I introduced or something else that's going on.
Another thought I had - try playing with the DPI for the Messaging app, see if you can adjust it to a suitable level. It looks like a bunch of things overlap - leading me to think there might be an issue with an overlay somewhere..
Thanks but nope I've tried so much in the messaging settings I've messed with the looks colors backgrounds everything and still nothing I'll try go sms
Edit---- go SMS worked flawlessly
