Hello everyone!
After successfully rooting a Motorola Defy and a Galaxy Y I thought I would help a friend root his Nexus One (2.3.6 GRK39F):
- unlocked the bootloader
- applied boot img via fastboot as described here: code.google.com/p/bexboot
However there is a big problem: the Wifi will not turn on; when attempting to turn on it will just display the status "Error". With my limited knowledge I tried to fix it:
- used an app called "FXR WiFi fix and rescue" : FAILED
- tried flashing an older baseband - 5.08 (it had 5.12) : FAILED
Now I have no more ideas on what to try (to be honest I am afraid to try more things because I don't know the actual cause of this error and don't want to damage the device).
Any ideas or guidance that you can provide will be highly appreciated.
Thank you!

Did you flash a correct boot image? Try to flash a standalone kernel or clear data and cache in wifi settings and then do the set up again.

Yes I flashed the correct image. After several more attempts of fixing this (having read countless forum posts and guides) I gave up and flashed latest stock then rooted with Superoneclick. All is well now.
Thank you! Considered SOLVED.
reboot your phone
I m new at this, I had the same error when trying to use wi-fi after rooting. I could get it fixed after a reboot.

New to rooting and playing around with the flashboot.
I have a pure edition Moto X lollipop. I decided to unlock (successful) and root (unsuccessful). Also, not sure if I enabled USB debugging before I started messing with fastboot. Now that I'm in loop, I cannot enable it.
My phone is now in constant loop, more specifically stuck on the blue world screen. It will not go any further. Here are the different solutions I've tried that have come up short:
- Fastboot menu cannot access "Recovery mode" it simply says "boot up failed."
- Tried flashing "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.3.0-ghost.img" file but I believe something must be incompatible and have now screwed up my system.
I just simply want to put it back to stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please tell me I didn't stupidly brick my phone.
I have fixed this issue. This thread can be deleted/closed. Thank you for the search button!

- I believe Im locked out my phone now
Device is LOCKED Status Code: 0
Software Status: Modified
Any Fastboot(or mfastboot) code I try does this:
(bootloader) Permission denied
FAILED (Remote Failure)
So far its not looking good. Anyone have any ideas?
Hey all, thanks for reading. I've caught myself in a predicament. I can solve most issues that crop up my way, but right now I'm a bit stuck. It is likely fairly simple and I am just dumb...
The huge issue here is that I am running stock lollipop for the D415 model. I am having the typical base-band and WiFi issue that a lot were having. Like most, I just booted up into TWRP and restored a backup. I Wanted to try again so I flashed the stock ROM and tried again; didn't work...oopss..
LG Flash Tool refuses to locate my device. Download mode fails to connect my device properly. Error is:
EP1/out FAIL nfo=40 pg0=ffbd880
usb_read() transaction failed
So now I am stuck with a broken stock ROM, no TWRP, and no current way to re-flash a stock ROM.
Steps taken so far:
1. Reinstall all drivers
2. Attempt to root and install TWRP to access my backups (No access to Download mode)
3. Started all over with original USB.
What can I do? Thank you again for reading my long post.
Came back to it after a few weeks and issue has been resolved. Despite error warnings fastboot operated correctly, only manually. Any script etc. that booted device into fastboot would never find the device. Simple as flashing recovery and restoring a backup.
tl;dr: I'm not very bright.

EDIT 2: Device is properly configured and can be found in ADB when powered on.

I nearly bricked my Razr i XT when downgrading from a Kitkat update to JB 4.1.2 but thanks to the great work here I am making some progress but cannot get Recovery or Root. the unlocking of bootloader via the Motorola website went fine and thanks to this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239706 I got the rom I wanted, and it's fine.
I have read many other tutorials on installing a recovery and have downloaded and tried 6 or 7 CWM and TWRP images
but it never completes - fastboot says it has, but the phone stubbornly hangs at the flashing.
I have no problems getting into fastboot, but failed many times, and in desperation have tried with USB debugging on and off
and with and without sim and sdcard inserted.
attached are some photos to show where I am stuck at, and I would greatly appreciate some help

U said fastboot hangs at flashing the recovery, but on the command lines on your PC it says finished. Have u tried booting into recovery?
What recovery did u use and where did u get it?
USB debugging, simcard and sdcard don't have anything to do with fastboot. But it is likely that u didn't know that
thanks for looking at this.
I did try booting into recovery from my PC by after rebooting it and then taking the recovery option, but the phone hung at the Motorola bootloader unlocked warning screen.
this link was typical of the various tutorials I used: http://androidteen.com/motorola-razr-i-how-to-root-and-install-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery-on-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware/
to be fair I cannot recall where I got all the recovery images from - I have that many, and had to rename them recovery.img, so cannot remember the original download names
update:
I have just tried an app from the google play named Root Android, which advised trying other apps - Kingroot, Framaroot & Towelroot,
but they all failed .
what did catch my eye yesterday was the yellow text when in fastboot that says 'dismatched partition entry'
I ignored it as the img files I was trying to flash are all much smaller than the 100mb stated,
but today I am beginning to think that perhaps my recovery partition is corrupt and look for ways to repair it.
does that make any sense?

That could be it. Try flashing a rsd lite package from JB. Than go to the recovery and see if u have stock back.

I have solved my problem with CWM:victory:
whilst I am not 100% certain I am pretty much sure it was a driver problem - for those who this may benefit, here is what I did.
1. I did not reflash my phone, but stayed with the one in my original post.
2. remember that the main problem was that Fastboot said I had succeeded in flashing a Recovery image, but that the phone 'hung'
at flash as in my photo. and then from my phone I could not get to recovery from the fastboot menu .
3. I stumbled across a posting (on XDA, but I cannot remember where) that said the Motorola drivers were not as good as they should be and that the Motohelper one's would be fine - so I downloaded them, and have attached the zip below.
4. I then decided to tidy up my PC and uninstalled all mobile phone drivers, plus any redundant USB Device drivers
5 for the USB tidying up I tend to use USBdview, which is superb and can be found here
6 when all this was done I simply tried the reflash of CWM - and got the same situation I had been having all along
but amazingly, when I selected 'recovery' it went in CWM - I nearly fainted with surprise!
from all this I can only assume it was a driver problem as I had changed nothing else.
perhaps it was Motohelper drivers- perhaps it was USBdview that did it for me - I will never really know, nor care!
I now have CWM v6.0.1.9 - it is touchscreen and permanent, plus I use the cute Reboot by app by Petrus to control my phone.
happy days!
Cannot get into recovery. Device seems to be bricked.
After Sony logo there is nothing else other than black screen. Please help me recover my device.
Don't Panic, this can easily be recovered. However the data that was inside I'm afraid is gone forever. Maybe it can be recovered maybe not, anyway I'm giving you some easy steps you can follow to recover your device.
1. Download Flashtool
2. Download the Firmware you want to load into the phone. (Search in the forum for .ftf ---make sure it is for Xperia Z --- files or you can download Xperifirm and make them on your own)
3. Once you have the .ftf file ready click on the Flash (Lightning) icon and select the firmware (.ftf) [Mode to flash is FLASHMODE]
4. When the phone is just one second from booting up (I know you are now in a cycle - loop but try as many times until you get it right), with the VOLUME DOWN button pressed connect it into the PC.
5. Wait for flash - About 10-15 min and you are done.
For any questions ask here. Good luck

Hi, Flash mode is working for me. I have recovered couple of times using flashtools in flash mode. But fastboot mode is not working for me. It says drivers are missing though I have installed drivers..
I went through tthe threads and could find a workking method to unlock the bootloader. Sony has too many appps which I do not need, I want to get rid of them as it consumes a lot of batttery. Hence a custom Rom with basic stuffs arre the soolution.
If you can help me unlock my BL I'd be thankful
And one more question, does TWRP's Latest version only works for Unlocked BL ?

First, Try to do things in order!!!
You are very messy, first you needed to unbrick the device, now you want to unlock its BL and want to know if you can install TWRP!
Install a stock firmware, make sure you can unlock the phone (by checking in the settings menu)...
And post some info...
In your device, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
Tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

Good for you, for anyone who needs to install fastboot driver on windows 10, when they cannot install they need to disable windows driver signature:
http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
Also for some who is in the same situation please post your solution, it helps the community.
P.S.: you can always hit that thanks button instead of thanking
I would like to know if there are custom kernels available for battery saving ? I flashed Zomie kernel and it was repeatedly booting my device into multirom recovery.
Right now I am on mokee, can I use any custom kernel with it ? If yes what ? I couldnt find many custom kernels for the device and what about Roms ? Not many custom Roms as well, only found RR and Mokee. Slim LP does not have a working link and couldnt find other popular roms too for this device.
I never tried new kernels, only thing install Kernel Adiutor and underclock, also change the governor mode.
As for the rom I use the modified stock rom by @androidexpert35, it provides good balance between performance and battery life. For any Rom you should write in their dedicated post. Keep experimenting but do it in a reasonable way and don't try to ask for everything, search and read others. Good luck
Hi all,
Recently I wanted to go to Cyanogenmod. I'm used to rooting my phone and doing the whole process. But this time, I'm stuck. When I try to root, everything goes fine until I have to put my phone into download mode manually. I get the error on top: Secure Booting Error! Cause: Boot Certification Verify every time I go into download mode.
I tried going back to stock (can't even more because of download mode). I can turn on my phone just fine and operate it. I can also go into recovery mode (stock lg recovery) if that helps.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I finally fixed it by flashing stock
The Error is caused because after flashing SuperSu you didn't bump the bootloader again. SuperSu changes the Bootloader so it needs to be rebumped. You can try running this zip file in recovery and hopefully it works.

Hi ! I'm in the exact same situation except that it's when I try to go on recovery mode that I have the security message - and I'm on a LG G3 D850 (AT&T). I tried your solution - it changes the message to "[610] Fastboot mode started", and then nothing...
Any idea ?
