I just need instructions on installing Clockwork on rooted zv8. The AIO does not work for me. It hangs at starting daemon.
Are you in internet connection mode with debugging enable? I know it sounds like a stupid question but I had a brain fart when doing it and forgot that part... doh!
My USB connection is broken, so here is how I did it using terminal emulator.
1) Download the cwmrecovery.img to your SD. ( I downloaded MT's zip file and then extracted all with root explorer, but you only need the cwmrecovery.img file.)
2) Use root explorer to copy or move it to the /data/local/tmp directory (make sure permissions are set to r/w/exe).
3) Launch terminal emulator and type these commands:
su
mount -orw,remount /dev/block/system /system
mount -orw,remount /dev/block/data /data
dd if=/data/local/tmp/cwmrecovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 bs=4096
rm /data/local/tmp/* 2>/dev/null
4) exit terminal emulator and then reboot.
You can then try the vol down+power button combo upon boot to enter CWM.
Good luck.

It still needs the local.prop for the way I have the bat coded. Put it back in data and rerun, you should be good to go!

Where do I grab the local.prop and how do I put it in? :x
Same issue here as the rest. Getting "Operation not permitted" and permission errors
As I kept my local.prop as local.prop.bak, I renamed it back and restarted the phone, everything appears to have gone through now.
Thanks MT.

How do you change the permissions of the /data folder to r/w/exe as you mentioned?
I am having a problem because I don't currently have the Local.prop file and I need to add it to that folder but I am getting a permission denied message.

My phones recent history: Up until a few weeks ago, I was running the ION remix rom on my g1. While recovery from surgery (read as: hopped up on pain killers), I was awesome and dropped the tmo 1.6 rom on top of it, without wiping first. The phone has been somewhat unstable, lots of problems, etc.
so tonight, I downloaded all the cm 4.999 files, dump them on to the sdcard, reboot to my old jf 1.42 bootloader, and i can't find flash_image anywhere on the phone. i've looked all over the damn thing. so i get adb downloaded, and i can't get that going because all the usb drivers i've tried have always refused to load on this pc (both vista x64 and win 7 x64).
help? i can't find anywhere i can download flash_image at, and adb just isn't an option.

Try using Recovery 1.4 or something like that.
flash_image is part of the recovery.img file that get's flashed. You could search or just use this link to the Amon_RA 1.2.3 Recovery (also in my signature).
Either one will do the job. You can also wipe from the recovery and apply any .zip file as long as it is on the root of your sdcard. It's pretty easy really. Wipe, install, boot. If it works, reboot, nandroid backup (if you use Amon_RA 1.2.3 you can go to terminal and 'switchrom -s ROMNAME') and you only need to do a recovery should anything get messed up again.
Hope that helps.
it's cm 1.4 i'm trying to get installed. i don't have flash_image on my phone and i can't use fastboot to get cm 1.4 installed :/ that's what i'm trying to get help with.
if you want cyans recovery, you can use

wget http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/cm-recovery-1.4.img
flash_image recovery /sdcard/cm-recovery-1.4.img

note about upgrading to cyan: you can get the single flash version to avoid all the problems caused by a bad htc recovery rom flash while updating to 4.1.999

i'm about to give up on this thing :/
gridlock32404: here's a transcription from terminal on my phone,
$ su
# flash_image
flash_image: not found
fastboot prob won't work, i suggest a reroot
tried rerooting back to rc29 last night, hardspl is refusing to do it though.
a friend of mine just sent me flash_image from his system/bin, but when i try to mv it to my system/bin, it's complaining about the cross-device link, which i don't recall how to get around atm. and now i'm outta time and have to head to work. guess i'll pick this back up tonight.
hahha o man love all the hijackin
btw to OP
if it says Cm-recovery,img not found or w/e
your not using the right path to the file
put the image in the same folder as the fastboot.exe

i accidently flashed the htc image as well and I no longer have /system/bin/flash_image and my recovery is broken. tried to reflash with fastboot and the recovery is still broken. how can i get flash_image back?
rerooting is the only way. flash rc29 and reroot
go to bootloader and load dreamimg.nbh again, start her up, do the old login deal and download telnet from market, put cm-recovery-1.4.img on your sdcard, reboot phone normally when home starts without doing anything else hit enter enter (type) telnetd (press) enter, don't worry about what it does, open up telnet, connect to local host, type:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd sdcard
flash_image recovery cm-recovery-1.4.img
cat cm-recovery-1.4.img > /system/recovery.img
then reboot, then put on the new SPL, make sure your Radio is good, if not update that and then flash cyans new rom.
Andddd there's a guide here that explains all that a lot better than I did...good thing I typed all that out.

Ignore the error and execute the second "dd" command. If you get messages similar to the following, then you may have successfully flashed CWM recovery. You can try again by rebooting to recovery using AnReboot:

My friend has a Bell GT-i9000M phone. I am not sure what he did but I believe he applied lagfix and tried to update to 2.3
Current status is that I am able to get to Dowload mode.
I have tried:
1. Darkys stock rom: http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-this-is-the-stock-rom-for-sgs-gt-i9000.1115/
(No success)
2. JPU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10449932&postcount=7 (no success)
3. JL2/Speed Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905975 - No success.
I can get into recovery but I get can't mount DBDATA error.
Currently the phone is rebooting constantly at Galaxy S GT-i9000M screen.
If I flash only JPU, it get stuck a round circle, I have waited about 15 mins with no change. I have used ODIN 1.3 and 1.82 and 1.83.
HELP!
What else to try?
This is where I am so far:
Phone boots with 2.2 with 0 for SD card and internal. Followed instructions as per: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973687
Now, trying to use sdparted or parted.
If I use parted, using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937072 and http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...56396__hl__sdparted__fromsearch__1#entry56396, I am able to get to:
Step 4:
okay now copy all the six files you pushed into the /system directory to the /sbin directory and set permissons like this:
#cp /system/[xyz] /sbin
#chmod 0755 /sbin/[xyz]
(replace the [xyz] with the filenames..do this for all 6 files..)
now get into the /sbin directory
#cd /sbin
#ls
This should display all the files in your /sbin
The parted files you copied should be here...
Now lets start partitioning..
#parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 and hit enter.
here it should get you into the parted prompt..(parted)
enter "print"
>(parted) print
Click to collapse
However instead of listing, I get "can't have a partition outside the disk parted"
I am stuck at this point. I am currently using adb in normal mode. If I reboot to CLM SpeedMod recovery, I only get $ when typing adb shell, and su results in permission denied. I have tried installing super user via recovery but no go.
ThoughtS?
Anyone ?

endless boot is fine as long as when you go back into recovery your SD card can be mounted unlike before.
So i ask, is it mounting now?
If it is, your free to flash any other ROM
Hi Jay,
No go on recovery mode. Vol up + home + power doesn't get me anywhere. Vol down + home + power gets to download mode.
Phone continues bootlooping...
you mean you are still getting the same error in recovery?
sorry that didnt work for you as i had the exact same error and that is what worked for me.
I then flashed darky 10.2 RE once i could mount my SD card
I recently got my cache corrupted and whenever i turn on the phone the phone goes into recovery and says -
E : failed to mount cache.
E : failed to mount cache/recovery/last_log.
ETC ETC...
There is an endless argument about this error. i cannot boot into stock roms because of this. i just want to clear dalvik cache now.
Is there any way to do it?
I'm not able to wipe anything in recovery mode.
i can access download mode only.
Using adb
rm - r /data/dalvik-cache
rm - r /cache/dalvik-cache
