I have a HTC VIVID that is rooted with the stock (updated)ICS Rom and since the updgrade my HDMI MHL adapter does not work anymore. If I connect it to the TV and connects then disconnects the video. I first thought it was the adapter but I have used it many times prior to the update and it worked great. Is there a special ICS settings to change the HDMI output to the TV with ICS. Any help would be great thanks again
Strange mines working on rumfloat beta 4

Ditto. I tested with a video on my Vivid. It played fine through the MHL adpater to the TV via the HDML cable. It's strange that some have a probelm and others don't.
The solution for my problem with the MHL adapter was the power supply to the adapter, I have a MHL adapter Menotek (buyed on amazon), the problem was that I dont know that the adapter need a external power supply (very bad point on that) and is a microusb plug
But know works good

Create an app to do what ?
There is no HDMI port on the phone, the only solution i see is to use the USB port, but then you would also need some hardware that connects on the USB and reinterprets that data sent to it and export that on a HDMI port.
I for one haven't seen any such devices (USB-to-HDMI for phones).

It is called MHL adapter
It does exactly that- micro usb to HDMI and is being use in galaxy nexus and galaxy note etc
Unfortunately not the case for our blacky
So, finally end with smart share..USB mass storage only...
NO HDMI...:banghead:

As said before it is nothing to do with an app. It has to be supported by the kernel. So far not possible for the black. Also possible issue is the output electricity. It needs to be 5v 500mA.
Technically speaking the OBs chipset supports usb-otg and hdmi .
Just matter of incorporating mhl in the kernel now or on ICS.
P.s. In an optimistic mood i bought the before mentioned adapter, and it has optional external power supply ( the phone charger or battery pack) .Waiting for it to come, and either there will be some change in near future or there will be new phone which supports mhl out of the box.
opti_black lacks HDMI connectivity..
thats sad but true .
It is not OB that lacks it.
The SOC can do it. It is LG that ain't interested in giving us the option.
i certainly wouldn't use it
i did not use it at all in my optimus 3D
As like the members say it certainly depends upon the taste of droidser.. some of them take its advantage while other rarely..
However its overall use by droidser is least.

So guys are you sure there is nothing to do in order to connect OB to TV by hdmi cable?
I just bought a LED TV a week ago and I want to connect the ob to it..
Afraid not a lot to be done. I have usb to hdmi adapter and it works fine with Galaxy Note , but as mentioned before not with the OB.
Following closely the development for the galaxy sl. They are still in a lock down and no luck.
But still hope is there.
ow about on screen phone??can use it for make an app for hdmi?
done some searching around for this too but no real solution. If you want to see your phone screen on the TV, connect it to you computer, use some remote screen software and connect the computer screen output to the TV
I wanted to know if it is possible to connect our device to a tv which has not have a hdmi port, through a 3.5 rca cable like galaxy s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SU4Czu3LpU.
Does the hardware support it!?
interesting, i have this cable will try and get back in the morning.
If you watch the video, the galaxy s has a TV out option, in the settings, I have not seen this on the note, so i doubt it will work.
John.
i was thinking if the hardware exist then someone with the proper knowledge do the job.
You have an MHL cable to do a HDMI connection!
I have one right here from my galaxy S. Tried it last year on my note and sad to say it doesn't work.

Agreed just use the MHL cable.
Its only a few pounds from eBay and works brilliantly. Perfect HD picture.
However I've noticed this function is no longer working now I'm on paranoid Android ICS so I might have to revert back to stock rooted GB.
Tried out the cable ... didnt work
MHL is the way to go.
Has anybody tried the official Samsung MHL adapter with the Note 3 yet? I picked one up and it is laggy. The tv displays exactly what is on the phone but when hooked up to MHL the phone seems to lag. As in, if I look at the phone's screen it is lagging behind too. When I unplug the MHL cable, it stops lagging. Tried with some games and even the line that follows your fingers using swype lags. Anybody else try this and have this issue?
Note 3 has MHL?
I plugged it in with my MHL cable that came with my home theater receiver and nothing came up on screen.
On my Optimus G I just plug the cable in to the micro USB and bam it works.
Do we really need a special adapter?

If it is a normal MHL cable you need the 5 pin to 11 pin adapter Samsung sells. I think I may have figured out my issue. Looks like I purchased the universal MHL 1 adapter from Samsung. Last night I ordered the MHL 2.0 adapter which hopefully will work out better as I've seen videos of people playing games without lag.

How'd the new one work out? I am using a Chinese one I used with my gs3 and its perfect for videos but with games there is a fraction of a second lag that makes playing Mario impossible.
If better mhl cable fixed ur issue let us know thanks.

The newer MHL 2.0 adapter has a higher refresh rate so that should resolve your problem.
i paid $11 for the 3 plug red wired mhl 2.0 setup on ebay ... works like a charm.

Hey guys,
I was looking at the Samsung smart dock :
( can't insert link as I am a new Member)
And was wondering if it would work on the Xperia z1?
I know that the z1 supports MHL and OTG so I'm guessing it could work..
Also, I realise that the actual phone won't fit onto the dock properly but I really want hdmi out with at least 2 usb inputs, so I'm fine with using a micro usb male to female cable to run from the phone onto the dock.
This is my first post so let me know if I'm doing something wrong
Thanks in advance
- Dr. Klyde
It's a hardware issue actually, Samsung uses special usb connectors which can active both mhl and usb at the same time, not sure Sony does too...

I use something like this and it works fine to have HDMI out, but never tried using the USB in at the same time.
You can use the usb as storage or only for charging while using hdmi?

I heard that the USB input on that could only be used for power and nothing else.. :/
I think that's correct, as the HDMI output does not work unless there is AC power going to the Micro USB in.

Theres a cheaper version of the dock on ebay for $11 which has HDMI and USB (both full size) ports. I might buy it and try that one first.
A stupid question, how can I use the MHL cable and charge the Z1 in the same time? It is possible?

Did your MHL cable work for the M8?
I have a cheap one I got for my Samsung s3, and it has an adapter that goes between the phone and the cable and if I don't use that adapter it works fine. I think the Samsung interface has a switched wire that's why it needs it. So not all cables are the same but if the universal one had a removable adapter it will probably work.

How did you guys got it to work? I bought two different MHL 5pin adapters and none worked. The MHL symbol does appear on the phone but there is no image on the TV. I dont undestand and I am getting desperate, does someone has any tips?
Cheers
A "cheap" MHL cable will probably be MHL 1.0, which won't support 1080p (1080i @ 30Hz max rather than the 1080p @ 60Hz that MHL 2.0 supports)
Most MHL cables are also designed for use with recent Samsung devices, which use a proprietary MHL implementation, which is NOT compatible with non-Samsung devices.
The MHL "standard" is almost totally useless, mostly thanks to Samsung creating this confusion, plus the fact that almost no-one ever categorically states what version of the format (1.0, 2.0 and now 3.0) their devices are.
The new Sony devices support MHL 3.0, if they use a standard implementation then their adapters might be the way to go, assuming they eventually turn up and don't cost an arm and a leg.
Anyone with T-Mobile firmware can please confirm if MHL works?
