Market question - Motorola Droid 3

Would anyone know why a d3 would have issues d/l stuff from market? It says that my device is not compatible but some of these apps I already have on my phone and some of them my girlfriend can d/l on her d3 but I can't? Any ideas?

because it's not classifying your phone as a "droid 3" its classifying it as something different, i believe if you modify the build.prop file, theres a line in there that says "device ID" and you can change it to the correct device ID and it should recognize it as a D3, but then this is all for custom roms, if you're using a stock rom, then i'm completely in the dark lol

It definitely can be seen as many phones. The XT862 is the American model of the Droid 3, but the Droid 3 is a Verizon specific branding. If I go to the Play Store on my computer and DL an app to my phone, I have multiple models to pick from, all are my D3, but some are labeled D3 and some are XT862, and I attribute this to running custom ROMs, both modified Blur and AOSP (I believe AOSP broke the Droid 3 branding).
Check my screen capture.

Skype Live and FM Radio for Samsung Captivate...

Sorry if this is posted under the wrong thread but I have seen other posts about porting apk's here so anyway here it goes:
I'm sure that by now today Skype has lifted its Verizon Android phone only limitions and is now extending them to ALL Android devices. The only problem is that an updated app is TBA. With that being said, I stumbled across this site earlier: http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/ which has all the apk's for the Droid X listed in alphabetical order. Needless to say I installed the Skype Live apk and it appeared to load but gave me a message stating that it was for Verizon phones only. Would it be possible for someone to port this to the Captivate, and since the FM Radio apk is there too, would that also be possible? Thanks in advance!!!

FM radio i think captivate just missing out the chips that was used for it in i9000, and guess that's the same one for verizon's galaxy s.

What's the likelyhood of getting the BT Voice commands APK/odex from the Droid X and applying them?
I wouldn't expect to see BT Voice control until the official FroYo release for our phone.

Depends on if it has any dependencies in Motorola specific frameworks or not.

[tether] android-wifi-tether

Android Wifi Tether has a new build out, that now supports Motorola Droid Bionic & RAZR. We need confirmation that it works on Droid 3/Milestone 3...
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-pre104.apk
For Droid 3: Everything should be automatic and "just work". If not, let me know.
For Milestone 3: You should be able to get things working by selecting the Droid 3 profile in the settings screen. I would like to get everything working automatically for all the different Milestone 3 variants, so what I would need to do that is:
Model Name: example, Motorola Droid RAZR (you guys are like xt860, etc...)
ro.product.device from build.prop: example, cdma_spyder
Thanks
I used it, it allows tethering, but it pulls up the verizon screen to pay for the service.

Do you have the RadioComm edit? Looks like VZW did you Droid3 guys like Droid X with the GB update. It should properly work with the RadioComm edit, or a source built ROM like CM7, just like Droid X... It gives you a far more configurable interface than the built in tethering app. Thanks for testing!
Any non-VZW folks out there wanna give this a try?
Just tested on my Droid 3 tethered it to my tablet and it works great. Running .890 cm7 10/16 build.

I'll try this here soon. I'm getting the VZW screen even after the radio hack, so I might as well try this app. I'm also on the 5.7.894 leak and I wonder if the new kernel and baseband have anything to do with this screen appearing?
EDIT:
No luck here on rooted and debloated 5.7.894.

;( Unfortunately the app isn't meant to defeat measure like this which Moto/VZW has baked into their firmware. I'm amazed no one has turned the radio hack into an update.zip like the original TBH hack, and everyone is doing it manually...

That's weird, I tried that one too and it didn't work for me.
My problem was a routing or NAT issue. I tried many apps but all had the same issue. I could see my phones WAN IP and ping that but could get past there. I couldn't ping the phones gateway etc.

I haven't tested that it works or not but for my ME863 (Milestone 3 Hong Kong version) ro.product.device is umts_solana.
One question I have is, how do I remove its binaries? I noticed after I ran it that my device already includes a "Mobile hotspot" binary, which actually popped up when I turned on WiFi Tether, so I'm hoping they don't interfere with each other...
I see a "reinstall" button but no "uninstall" button. I assume it wouldn't have overwritten anything that was already installed, right?

Great I'll hopefully get that device info in for the next build, if not, should still be soon... for now the Droid 3, targa or razr profile should work for you.
Don't quote me 100% on this, as I am not the lead developer, just the guy focused on bringing Infrastructure mode to as many devices as possible... But, I believe both android wifi tether and the stock hotspot use the same prop entry to let the system know that tethering is on. So, when AWT fires up, the built in hotspot thinks you've turned it on. Tethering should still work properly.
I'm still new to the project, so hopefully I'll be able to help refine things... Hostapd support is somewhat new to android-wifi-tether... Harald and I first getting it functioning on DroidX around new years. I had to step back from nerding out on android for a bit. I'm back now, though... And ready to make a huge impact... When version 3 hits the market, it will be monumental!
Latest build... Sorry, should have put this link here in the first place.

Build. Prop fix for cyanogenmod?

Looking for a fix as well. Surprised a definitive answer hasn't been posted yet unless I missed it. One Guy posted his build.prop but I don't know exactly what to change
Well I imagine someone eventually well help us out. I'm going to keep googling in the meantime. I found someone who had the issue on the vibrant and someone had a new build.prop to give him and it worked, but he didn't say how to install the build.prop. Just said "Swap this one out with your old one"...and? How exactly do I go about doing that?
It can be done with root explorer

No terminal commands needed.
Get a root file explorer
Navigate to /system
There you will find the build.prop
Open that with any text editor, or copy it to your sdcard and use NotePad on your pc. It's just a plain text file.
Once all edited. Save and reboot.
Make sure your system is mounted r/w or it won't let you change anything in that partition.
Cool, so I have another stupid question : what do you change the build.prop too?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Kind of depends on what ROM you are running and what in the build prop is incorrect. Sometimes when running i9000 roms your build will be written to reflect your phone as no longer being an I897. It happened to me many moons ago. Luckily the rom thread had an updated build prop posted. Search for the Market Fix apk in the market. That allows you to change your signature that the market views your phone by. You may also try Market Enabler there's a few different versions to choose from, just a temporary ID changer.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ok but what do I change EXACTLY to have it recognized by the market as a Samsung Captivate? And why don't these cyanogenmod developers fix this? It's a common issue why ignore it? Arghhhhhhh I'm getting irritated. A guy on the cyanogenmod forums said to use root explorer and change manufacturer to samsung and model to nexus s. I did that and only freaking difference is my XDA app says I'm using a nexus s. The market is still the freaking same and i even freaking cleared the cache and rebooted. Yeah I'm irritated. Just bought Modern Combat 2 and can't play it because of this stupid problem!

Finally figured it out, the stuff I was told to change has nothing to do with market access, changed 4 other entries to "GT-I9000" and that fixed the problem. Wasn't mad at anyone just frustrated

To get everything to recognize it as a Captivate you need to chang eANYTHING that says Gt-i9000 to SGH-i897 and anything that says galaxysmtd or something like that to captivatemtd or whatever stock shows it as( I cannot remember what stock shows at this moment). But if you make these changes then xda app and the market and anything else will recognize it as a Captivate

Possible Way to Install Google Wallet

Engadget recently posted about a Chrome extension called APK Downloader. It allows you to download the APK for any app on the market, including those that may be blocked by your carrier. My first thought was to try Google Wallet for my T-Mo Nexus S. I was able to get it installed and add the prepaid card. I haven't had a chance to try a purchase yet, though. Let me know if it works for you.
I can't post links yet but just search APK Downloader on Engadget for info on where to download it from
After I got APK Downloader installed in Chrome, I googled "Google Wallet site: play.google.com" and then used the extension to download the APK to my Dropbox so I could quickly access it from my phone.
If anyone has a chance to do this and make a purchase, let me know. I'll give it a shot tomorrow

Just used wallet successfully
I can confirm that the above method worked for me. I was able to install the app, add the prepaid card, and successfully buy something with it.
I have not tested this on a non-rooted phone, although I imagine it could work since you do not need to be rooted to install an APK outside of the Play Store.
One other note for rooted users, there is a persistent banner on the app that says "Unsupported Device. Learn more." This means exactly what it says. It is unsupported so the Google Wallet devs aren't obligated to help you if you are rooted and have problems with the app. This does not mean that the app will not work.
One more update: it looks like after installing the app in this way, it shows up in the "my apps" section of the Play Store, allowing you to update it (providing it's an update that doesn't break it for root users).

It's due to the regional and carrier settings. In the US, I believe its only available for the Sprint Nexus S 4G, and not available for anyone else. This method allows everyone else to update and install google wallet.
Hey,
Thanks for this link - I managed to get the app installed (i9020 bought unbranded, on T-Mobile UK, totally stock unrooted 4.0.4).
However, when I start the app up, I still get the "this app is not supported in your country / on your network" error.
I guess it's because I'm in the UK? Any way to get around this?
Thanks,
Suman

As a Canadian I have yet to find a way to do this short of driving 30mins to the border, hopping on a US network and trying then. Might need to switch sims as well.

Hmm, ok... so does the device permanently have to be on a "supported" network for the Wallet application to load up, or does it just need to get activated first?
I have an old AT&T GoPhone SIM somewhere (in my crypts!) which I could possibly use in the phone, but I don't know if roaming would work...

You don't install it and you need to be rooted. You put it in /system/app/ and change the permissions to rw-r--r--. After you reboot, it'll show up in your apps.

Edit. Went to the list of All apps instead of Installed, and it showed google wallet and let me update it. I dont knwo why it didnt show installed or whatever, but got it now
Actually it would be more useful if they would simply allow the thing outside of the US.
Wallet doesn't show up in the Play Store for some (all?) custom roms. If someone can pull the updated apk from /system/app/ and post it for everyone, that would be great.

That's normal. It's Google's way of saying, "you're rooted, so don't blame us if you lose your phone and someone gains access to Google Wallet b/c you're rooted."
It's saying that it's incompatible with my Nexus 7 and I can't access it via the store.
Weird.
