N7000 does NOT turn on instantly - takes 1 second - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title stated, when I press the power button on my Note (International version) to wake it up from sleep mode, it takes about 1-1.5 seconds before the screen turn On.
Similarly, when I press the power button when the screen is on, it takes about 0.5 second for the Note to go to sleep.
Compared this to my HTC Thunderbolt, it's instant on and off from sleep mode. Anyone have the same experiences?
My Note is rooted and have CWR.

What firmware are you on?

I am on stock firmware, hasn't flash anything custom firmware or kernel.
My Note is running on the following:
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband : N7000UBKK1
Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-N7000ZSKK1-CL706440
Build number : GINGERBREAD.UBKK2
I just got my Note 2 days ago, hasn't been installing any heavy "system" apps other than the normal:
- ZDBox
- Zoner AntiVirus
- LBE Privacy
- Titanium Backup
However, I have far more apps than my HTC Thunderbolt and no slow wake-up like the Note.

OK.
First of all, the wake-up delay is because of the Note goes into deep sleep when it has been in standby for a while, so it takes a second before it wakes up. This is mostly ironed out in custom ROM's (check the dev section).
What you can also try that might help is to install another lockscreen app. When i was still on stock ROM i used WidgetLocker, and it felt a little quicker. If you don't want to pay for WidgetLocker, take a look at MiLocker or Go Locker in the market. They are free.

Thanks for the information. So it seems to be a well-known problem, since the Note goes into "deep" sleep as compared to other device like my HTC Thunderbolt.
I will try to "locker" app you mentioned and will post back.

Oh yes, it's a well knows problem around here But well.. that's just the way it is. Try not to get annoyed by it. You'll get used to it after a while.

I have the the same problem but have learned to live with it.

Thanks for the replies, all. At least I know its not my Note having hardware issues.
Hopefully ICS fix this problem.

I have same problem on 2.3.6, but on 4.0.3 it's ok!

Phone does not wake up after ICS

Hey everyone,
I flashed ICS a few days ago and then a day or two later flashed rocket rom. I am not really sure if this problem happened before rocket or not.
My phone randomly "shuts off". Maybe it doesn't wake up, I don't know how to tell the difference. I have to either pull out the battery or do a hard reset sometimes.
Any suggestions as to what I should do? Go back to gingerbread? Or reinstall rocket? flash a different ROM (midnote, etc)?
Thanks everyone!

There is an app called Wake Lock or Keep Awake or something that won't let your phone get into deep sleep so it doesn't happen.
Had the same problem, I remembered from the HTC HD2 forums something about avoiding it by turning off auto-brightness.
After having 4 sleep of deaths in 3 hours, I had it once in 24 hours. Dunno if that's what affected it, but much better. Try it.
Kernel related. Flash a different one. Wipe cache and dalvik after kernel flash.
Some kernels are plagued by this problem because of kernel base used. Minor hardware changes in newer batches do not like the old kernel base.

Non responsive touchscreen

Hello,
Since I've bought my Incredible S about 8 months ago, I've been experiencing this problem. Somethimes, when I'm writing a message, there is 1 letter that doesn't work, if I press on it, it chooses the letter besides it. If I exit the app and reopen it, everything is fine. So its only the keyboard that's acting weird.
I had this on the standard 2.3.3 and 2.3.5 and now on 4.0.3 with the Virtuous Quatrro ROM.
Now I'm using the default ICS keyboard, on Gingerbread I used Better Keyboard.
Does anyone know a sollution?
Just to notice, my phone was send to HTC for repair somewhere around Octobre last year, and they replaced the whole front, including the screen. 2 weeks before that, they replaced the motherboard. So I still had the problem after the repair. And I think it's not software related, bevause it's just when I'm typing something, and not when I'm scrolling trough menu's or something like that.
Had the same problem. And I have a solution: don't notice it
I know its irritating sometimes, but that's not a real problem, so take it easy

Well, half the times I'm writing a message there is at least one key not working, and I have to reopen the app, it's quite frustrating...

I have had that problem with my mum's Wildfire S as well.
But then i realized that the phone had not been rebooted in a while.
Restarting the phone did the trick so i assumed that there were too many programs running in the background.
However, now after i guess a couple of months, the problem still persists albeit at a very minor stage.
Either lock the screen then unlock it. Or reboot the phone.
Both methods work for me when I get this issue. I use the lockscreen when I need my phone but if I've got a 5mins spare ill reboot.

The funny part is when this issue occurs, sliding the lock screen also seems impossible
Then lockscreen and unlock it again and all is fixed? ..... when I have issues with lock screen I just lock and re-unlock then it fixes it.
Does that work for you?

Locking and unlocking the lockscreen helpes, but there has to be a permanent sollution for this right?

All I can say it maybe try a different rom or kernel. Other than that I'm unsure maybe something internally it knackered as a worst case scenario.

I had this problem aswell. It started out in the same way as yours just being a tad un responsive, but slowly got worse. What it turned out to be was that digitizer was faulty as I replaced the digitizer myself and the problem was solved. As you say that the screen etc has been replaced before this could well be the case. I would recommend getting in done professionally as it isn't an easy job. Look on the market for a touch screen test app and see if you have any dead spots.

i've had the unresponsive lockscreen issue when using cm7 and cm7 based roms, then today i checked set cpu and i had a profile for screen off - a low clock speed with conservative governor. Changed to interactive and slightly high clock speeds and dont seem to be facing the issue any more....at least its been okay for the past 6 hours...hope this helps
I find if you lock the phone and wipe the screen until it's nice and clean it fixes this problem. It could be caused by a buildup of finger oils on the screen, or from your face after making a call. Not to sure though.

[Q] Battery life - my sisters I9000

Guys, my sister has had her I9000 for a good few months now and everything was fine until recently.
She phoned me (knowing I like my phones) saying her battery life had become really poor over a couple days.
So I took the phone off her and updated it with Kies, so now it's running the latest Kies Gingerbread for that phone. I should point out it is not rooted, completely stock.
I noticed some crummy looking app's like Android Anti-Virus and Task Killer so removed them hoping one of them was acting the goat.......everything seemed to be going good until yesterday and she charged the phone all night until 8am and when it came to around 2pm the phone was flashing up with low battery alert. She said she had used twitter a little and browsed on the internet a while.
I have told her to get CPU Spy and look if the phone is going into deep sleep, yesterday it had 0% deep sleep and today it is saying 70% deep sleep even though the battery only lasted 6 hours before low battery warning...
Any ideas what I can do to track down where the problem is? Would she see better battery with ICS or a custom GB ROM?
Mine did this on stock ROM luckily mine lagged when I went into battery use it was Samsung app push update service or something like that but thanks to the lag it showed sleep lock before it shower that service I uninstalled then it could go back into deep sleep

it will root your device and install clockwork mod, should fix the battery issues though. Try flashing the CF root kernel via odin. Theres a tutorial in the thread.
After the odin flash, you can use titanium app for remove apps or system apps unnecessary

Is samsung gonna fix the bug on 4.0.4 or what?

Hi fellas,
Im just wondering is there any fix on 4.0.4?
I mean the battery issues and overheated device? Cuz im thinking of rooting my device in the end to just giving it a try. But it will void the warrany for sure. So, just wanna know if any of ya all just happen to know if thers any fix coming out real soon. So that i can wait.
It seems that my device is now consider as useless piece of s...t just wondering why would i want to use this so called smartphone if i cant use live wallpaper, push email, screen brightness for my luvly super amoled screen and so on if it drains the battery like thirsty camel. It just a thought tho.... U guy might be thinking the same. So, i did all the the things like calibrating the batt, installed cpuspy, take out the batt on plane mode trick and so on.. , yes it did help the device to sleep. But it drains when im using it for 3 hrs with a lil bit of surfing, emails and sketching .it just doesnt make any sense at all.
Dont you guy think that samsung is trying to lure us to change to s3? Or note 2? Well it did cross my mind. Lol. i might not consider samsung in the near future. I guess, htc x one is my choice cuz it offers 6hrs batt. Hehehe

dude battery life with screen on in clean condition, without fancy stuff is only 3.5 hours. Some with other kernels/roms have reported 4 or even 5 hours, but that's really max
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
It is a power hungry phone,
Large screen - If you've got your brightness all the way up will use more power
Live Wallpaper - Pretty - Battery drainer
Games - Power hungry
etc
As mentioned - you cannot expect to use a phone like this for 8/9/10 hours with constant use, At 3 hours constant use, screen on, probs wi-fi / data, Gaming, listening to music.. you will see the battery drain quicker..
Could alsways pick up a one of those larger Mugen Power Batteries / second stock battery if your usage demands it... I've got two stock batteries but the actual amount of times I've need to call on the backup one is rare, I keep it handy as both me and my girlfriend have GNote's.

Well then there are ways to analyse, as posted above for abnomal battery drain in deepsleep, when not using phone. That is one option.
Best guess is to do a full clean install of 404 by going to gb through pc odin, root it, get on cwm recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, backup efs, save pictures on computer, backup messages with app from play, sync contacts to gmail and then backbin recovery format everything in mounts, except efs, ofcourse.
Then phone wont boot, but is truly squicky clean. Then go into download mode and flash throught oc odin a stock 404 rom.
Do not recover apps/data, just manually redownload them.
Dont ever on unsafe kernel from stock ics do these steps. EVER!
Then download cwm. zip which is temp and flash speedmod k3-11 from recovery. I bet your battery life will improve and you will get 4 hours screen on time. Not as good as on gb,but still better then now
there are threads for every single step here, start in dr ketans thread in sticky section of development. Then tool thread of dr ketan in general section.
disclaimer: you can and will lose data and possibly warrantee

Pretty disappointed with Samsung in the software department. Jelly Bean was already out and OTA for ICS 4.0.4 for both my GNote and GTab 7.7 not yet available in my country. 1.Charge battery with phone turned on until galaxy is fully charged
2.UnplugTurn off phone and charge for one hour
3.UnplugTurn galaxy on, wait 3 minutesTurn off phone and charge for one hour
4.Reboot
And now my batt is coming back to its normal performance... I get around 11hrs 45 min on standby and at least 6hrs of moderate usage.... Thank god. Hopefully it will last..

I feel like having the same autonomy like GB since I went on 404.
lol email push 5 min, dont think you know push technology...
Anyways, those six hours is not with screen on all the time.
Doing the steps I mentioned however will force a full clean install. Then test without restoring apps battery, you will be amazed. Then install in batches or one by bone to eliminate possible culprit that impacts battery life.
Perhaps even better to go to samsung/shop where you bought and ask them to fix it If it is battery they will catch it and replace Less risk for you

Obtained this info from another thread:
about the alarm_rtc wakelock;
install terminal emulator from market and type these commands:

it will dump some info on your screen
scroll upwards a bit and search for 'Alarm Stats'

Wake Up Lag? Is there a fix?

Whenever I try to turn on my screen, it takes a second or two to turn on. It seems like it sleeps and then wakes up.
I want to know if there's a fix for it. I'm on MJ5 firmware if that matters.
