I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" SCHI800. I have just got done researching how to root the galaxy tab for about 4 hours. I have tried everything. Odin, hemidall, z4, superoneclick. None of it works! I am running 2.3.5, yes it is CDMA. Can some one point me in the right direction or even give me instruction on how to get this thing rooted!?
I used this guide yesterday on a tab I got from Craigslist for my daughter.
The link in this post works for downloading the stock rooted rom.
If you google there are instructions to install CM9 as well. Took me 30 minutes to root and update to CM9.
THANK YOU! I tried on the day that you replied and it worked. I just have not been on in forever! lol

I have a verizon cdma sgt rooted stock rom. And there is an update that keeps popping up and everytime I try to do the update it fails half way through. Anyone have some advice or point me in the right direction on how to do it manually? Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanx guys and gals

if you're running the rooted stock dj11, then you have to unroot, apply the update, and then use superoneclick to re-root the new stock ec02 rom. alternately, you can hit the dev section, and snag a rooted ec02, which is flashable via heimdall. but your updates won't ever work with root. so you always have to unroot, and then apply the update, and then reroot.
also, if you used z4root to root, trust me when i say, it won't work for ec02. you have to use superoneclick, and you have to make sure you have the right drivers installed on the computer, or it stalls out.
I've tryed to unroot with superoneclick and it says its not rooted but never works. Is there a step iam missing?

Hi, on Samsung Galaxy Ace Android 2.3, I can root it only by flash 'upd_1.zip'/'Acegingerroot.zip' from stock recovery. And it only ROOT the phone, it does not replace stock recovery.
Is it also possible on Galaxy Tab Android 2.3?
Try using zergrush. At least I think that's what it was called.

But perhaps there is someone who has tried 'upd_1.zip' on there Tab, and know if it works.
Because, I don't wanna try if it does mess up something.

And you still have stock recovery?
SuperOneClick will root you and not replace Stock recovery. I did this several times when I was trying to find new ways to brick my tab. ;-)
If you don't mind my asking, why do you want to keep the Stock recovery. I'm not trying to discourage you from keeping it, but I've started playing with building my own kernels and I find life is a lot easier building in CWM recovery than just working with stock.
Okay thanks..
I also had the CWM on my own Tab before i sold it. But right now I use a friend's Tab while I was waiting to Tab 7.7 comes in stores. And I will not put CWM on my friend's Tab, because then he can not use the normal reset option 'Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset'. And he do not know (like all other normal people), that he instead should use 'CWM factory reset'. If the Tab has CWM.
Superoneclick worked for me but don't do what I did. lol
After rooting worked so great I reopened the superoneclick and tried a shell root thinking it must be even better! four white lights and soft brick was the result.
Hi all,
Does anyone know of a way to root the samsung galaxy tab since it's last update to Gingerbread 2.3.4?
I Only use the WiFi connection so don't care if its verizon root method.
I search for few hours and tried SuperOneClick a few ways already, but nothing has worked so far.
Would installing any rooted rom with Odin work. If you have tried it please let me know.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Tab SPH-P100 NAND lock with the last update?
If you have tried rooting android 2.3.4 please let me know.
Thanks.
Try putting tab in download mode (on/off plus volume up together).. I managed to root by doing this with oneclick.
Super One Click will not work for the Sprint Galaxy Tab on 2.3.4. There is a pre-rooted Rom you can flash through Odin. It's been around since the 2.3.4 update was released and works very well. You can find it here. Good Luck!

I had tried that previously and it's a no go on the 2.3.4 on the sprint tablet.
Thanks for the advice.

Since this would install all fresh rom it would delete all my application data for the games my wife and kids are playing. Is there a way back this data on a non rooted tab? once I do this I will try the Odin method.
Thanks.
The root worked great. I thought all my apps would be gone but not true, It kept all apps intact and their current status.
Hello, this is my first time posting in XDA- Developers so i might be getting it wrong.
2 months ago i broke my iPhone 3G and a needed a new phone, so i decided getting a Samsung galaxy captivate for 100 dollars. when it came it was already rooted and unlocked on 2.1 Eclair so i went ahead and put my T-Mobile sim in it. I updated it to 2.3.5 Gingerbread via kies and i lost root access.
I know this question may already be asked, but how do i re-root it. i have tried all possible things:
Odin
OneClick
Galaxy Root for All Galaxy Models
My question is if it can't be rooted, how do i downgrade to something rootable.
This... [Utility] KK4 Easy Root
Or simply Odin flash the KK4 Corn Kernel version 7.0A , afterwards reboot into the cwm recovery. Option is there to gain Root access.
Since u r new here, Welcome ! Take a look at the forum rules and other stickied threads in the captivate forums when u got time. This phone has been around 2 1/2 yrs...so there is a lot of helpful info already posted.
Enjoy and happy flashin!

Woo hoo! I thought the day would never come! Kind of sucks that we won't be getting JB, but I guess I can't complain too much.
Thanks!

I updated last night with KIES. It took a long time about 40 mins or so. You have to be very patient. I thought it was bricked because for minutes at a time while updating there would be no sign that it's progressing. I tried installing keys on one of my netbooks (Win7x32 no SP) but it would crash when I connected my tablet. I had to install KIES on a second laptop with windows 7 64bit SP1 freshly installed recently. I think the people who are having trouble installing KIES or updating to ICS should try a pc with no ODIN or any other android drivers conflicting with KIES/ samsung drivers.
Now about the rom it's so much smoother than the honeycomb. There's very little lag and there's less memory being used by the programs. Only thing left to do is root this baby and uninstall the At&t bloatware.

Problem upgrading to ICS ib SGH-i957
Got the message from AT&T that ICS was now available for my 8.9 Tab. Yea, finally...
But after several attempts to upgrade I discovered that it won't install on a rooted device.
The message I got consistently was that my device was not recognized and I could not connect to the tablet.
So I need to unroot my 957 or find a way around that restriction.
I've searched the form for some advice but not found anything clear and concise.
There must be a thread somewhere that addresses this issue
I installed ics thru Odin. I downloaded the rom from sammobile.com. Then extracted the .tar.md5 file from it using 7-zip. Then flashed that with Odin. Before you flash it do a factory reset in your recovery. Then go to download mode and flash in odin. If you don't do the factory reset it'll probably hang at the att bootup screen. Orlandoxpolice had an excellent write-up on how to root.

Did you install ICS on a rooted tab?
If so, did you have to reset to factory?
You can install on rooted tab but you will lose root. You have to re-root after flashing. And, yes,do the factory re-set.

I sold this POS and now they send the update.
What a waste of time AT&T.
Now that jelly bean is the next rom, ics is old and terra 2 or snap dragon in the 8.o AT&T is old.
It's all, about the terra 3 and jelly bean.
AT&T is one year back date.
I guess it still new for anyone that has not used it yet.
