Hey guys, gals and guru's
Have had a bit of a search around and can't find any definitive answers.
Basically, I'm in Australia and wondering if you can flash a radio or something that would allow you to use the nextg network?
I'm currently on optus (3g) and looking to switch to telstra nextg for better coverage and want to know if I can do anything to my inc s to enable the switch or do i need a nextg compatible phone? Is it just software/firmware related or different hardware in the compatible phones?
Thanks in advance
You would be looking at hardware radios.
The optus incredible s will not work on telstra 3g properly. It operates mostly on the 850mhz band which our phone does not support.
change bands 3g
so there is no way to change the bands, I mean going from (HSDPA 900 / 2100 or HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100) to (HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 - North America) ???

Yep the radio frequencies are fixed in the chipset and cannot be altered with ROM or radio update.

Hi can you please tell me which radio version has the
850 2100 + gsm 900 1800 combination on it?
Thanks,
My carrier jaust changed to 850/2100
Not possible, sorry. The "UMTS 1700" option is for the e-Mobile network in Japan which uses UMTS IX (1700mhz uplink, 1800mhz downlink) and is not compatible with T-mobile's UMTS IV network (1700mhz uplink, 2100mhz downlink). The radio is physically different, and the UMTS IX radio is only available with the e-Mobile S21HT (link in Japanese).
Basically, you can get UMTS 1700, but only if you buy the S21HT, and it will only work on e-Mobile. The rest is just a software option leftover from the S21HT ROM (or other e-Mobile ROMs) and has no functionality.
--Edit
Just realized this is an old thread, so apologies for helping bump it. As for UMTS 850+2100, my impression is that it wasn't possible (only 850+1900/US or 900+2100/Europe+Asia). The only reason extra options are listed is because it's just a software thing, it doesn't change the radio. But you should check the ROM section for details.
hey,
i have a GT-I9000, and i'm trying to enable 850mhz band for 3g,
i flashed the jjjv5 modem which is 850enabled,
and selected the 850 band through *#2263#*, the second i select 850 i get no signal, does that mean my phone isn't 850mhz capable or does it mean there is no 850mhz reception in my area ?
galaxy s suports all bands
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
so you dont have 850 band in your area.
perhaps i was not clear - i'm trying to connect to 850mhz WCDMA band, not GPRS/GSM.
where do you live ? do you have the international i9000?
i live in israel, where we have a 850mhz/2100mhz 3g carrier (Pelephone)
the phone was purchased privately, not from the carrier.
i'm not quite sure about the phone version, the box states UMTS bands as 2100,1900,900.
the writing on the box and every document about the phone states GT-I9000.
does that mean that 850 3g band is not possible for me ?
i9000 doesnt support israel's 850 3g band, you can use 2100 instead which is suported by both ,phone and carrier

well guess ill be replacing this phone lol
keen to swap? im in aus and got a i9000t and would like to stay on Optus :/
Got bored and did some research...baked into the software is the bandwidths across the holiday and carriers specific phones...since we are not able to flash radios...this is becoming an issue for a lot of people....so heres what I found thought was interesting...these are controlled by the radios which for now we are not able to flash so until we are able to flash, signal issues will be a factor...

Telstra will sell dual mode LTE/HSPA+ mobile broadband devices that will operate seamlessly across 1800MHz and 850MHz spectrum bands, giving Telstra Next G network customers the benefits of 4G where it is available and then seamless switchover to the 3GHSPA technology in other areas.

No issues, You just have to modify a few files in any SKT or AU based rom.
Battery drain though.... That is another issue & will continue until we get a solid custom Vivid based Kernel that uses Vivid voltages instead of using the Raider Voltages, which as you know, uses a different processor than the Vivid.
Rogers raiders is the same as at&t vivid. The raider in Korea runs differently. Right now we are using 1700/2100 for lte service until the 700 auction can be completed. Then we will use 700 band.

Currently I have i9305 and LTE micro sim, the telco LTE band is Band 1 (2100) and it seem that the i9305 does not support it. According to samsung and also gsmarena specs, it support only 1800/2600 LTE bands. I know that the chipset us is Qualcom MDM9215 and it supports 2100 LTE band also based on http://www.4gltemall.com/am-telecom-aml500-4g-lte-module.html where they are selling the product. Is there a flashable modem file for odin to enable this?

Thanks, but I am well aware of the bands, my question is just how to enable the LTE BAND 2100 whic is currently widely implemented by Smart Communications and not the 1800 and 850 bands. Since on paper i9305 supports LTE Band 3/7/8/20, MDM9215 also supports Band 1 which is the LTE 2100. Modems thread does not include what LTE bands are supported and have to go to wikipedia to research it based on country.

No idea its not a question asked .
Suggest you contact your vendor/ network .
if the chip support 2100,i'm sure samsung will wirte it on the instructions
the only reson maybe the chip differs in the supporting band even for the same chip

No, the bands are built into the hardware so they can not be changed. The radio only enhances the bands that are present.
