hey guys can anybody provide instruction on how to flash cm9 on my optimus 2x. also is it ext3 or ext4 and which one is the best kernel + rom combo.
can games like gta 3 also run on cm9?
The two best CM9 roms are as far as I know, Owains CM9 build and Heis Nova HD. (you can find them both in the dev section). I believe CM9 is EXT4, like CM7.
As for kernels it becomes a little more complicated because there are about 5 different kernels for CM9 (Spicas HP extreme, Harsh's Reborn, Supernova HD, wkparks 3.0 kernel, Ironkernel (don't use this one!) and stock CM9 of course) So there is a lot to choose from, all you have to do is reading the threads and make up your own mind.
If you want to flash CM9, you first need to make a backup of your apps, contacts etc., because it requires a full wipe. Oh, you also need CM9 gapps obviously, you can find them somewhere on the Internet.
So all you gotta do in CWM recovery is:
1. (optional) Backup CM7
2. Wipe data/system/dalvik
3. Install rom
4. Install kernel
5. Flash gapps
Then you should be done!
what about games, do they run in cm9 like gta 3 or fruit ninja?
I think they should work ok, but not at their maximum potential. As you might know, CM9/ICS for our device still lacks HW acceleration. This essentially makes your phone smoother, so also gaming. With other words they should work fine if you compare it to CM7, but not good enough if you compare it to normal ICS with HW acceleration I think.

I have played both of these games and they run absolutely the same as on cm7
B/w I'm running cm9 with hp kernel rc1-r
Only thing is that idle battery life (8 hrs sleep time) is increased from 3% to 5-6%...not much of a problem if you ask me
so what i cant do in ics, take video recording and view videos as well as no adobe flash?
also is stock kernel owain kangs build stable and smooth?

Actually you can use MX Video player to watch just about any video you want, upto 720p in S/W fast mode
Havn't tried Owain Build, but i think Spica's Kernel, ironkernel and stock ics kernel are stable enough....have tried them all and no bsod's!!
As for video recording there is video illusion working in cm9

At the moment one of the best builds/kernels, an alternative would be the SuperNova kernels.

Harch kernel is also a good kernel if you want stock speeds and good battery life.

It would be nice if someone more experienced explain all steps for installing NOVA HD i mean explanation about steps for customization NOVA HD. Tnx in advance.
I would suggest you to try out latest Owain's rom and if I get it right, he have baked harsh rom with fix kernel into the rom, so you can use UMS (usb mass storage) for now latest is build 40 but i guess it is b41 comming out today for some reasons.. It is the smoothest and more stable rom that I ever had.. And battery life is awesome coz i guess harsh kernel is set to undervolt, but it doesn't affect the performance, and no problems with watching videos, for taking video you can take Videocam Illusion, works on g2x and o2x . I dont know about full version, but free one's quality is ****ty, but just in case I see UFO crash lol =)
What are the steps if i want to revert back to CM7, because i hate that the video camera doesn't work?
Tks.

Hi all,
I'm in Gingerbread 20Q now, and I'd like to install CM9 (owain's ROM) so I have some questions:
1. I have to convert my filesystem to EXT3 before install?
2. Kernel and Gapps are baked in the Rom or I have to download/install it separately?
3. There are RIL/baseband reccomended?
4. Someone says that Camera/Video have problems, someone not... I'll be possible to take photos/video with CM9 or not?
5. Someone talk about a "full wipe", so I will lose all my photos and files if I install CM9 ?
Thank you
D.
Hi all
I installed the lastet official update ... I've to say... what a disappointment. Battery life is extremely short... so before trying go back, I think a will install CM9. Being new... may I ask some help for installation? Ok, I dowloaded NovaHD_RC24-50_fixed.zip and the kernel SuperNova-RC4.zip. May I ask some of you to explain each step an which tool I have to use?
thx in advance

Hello,
Do you knkw where i can download the newest stock kernel?
Link?
Thank you
install latest CM7.2.0 + ironkernel.
and you're good to go.
i work on wajkiui and iron kernel and its work like hell try it or like miina_tokiha sad try cm 7.2
My optimus is on order (best i could get through work!).
The idea is to flash Root - Flash CM7 and have a nice speedy phone
Seems the steps are quite easy
- Root
- Install Rommanager
- Flash CLK recovery
and install a rom the usual way (format - flash zip - go go)
I'm a bit confused atm - seems there are CM7 nightlies which haven't been updated and 2 alternative CM7 versions in the android development subsection.
Was thinking about trying the
temasek's KANG BUILD + CM7 Kang kernel
Looking for vanilla CM7 really - used it on a desire S (got stolen..) and an HD2 (temporary device).
Most of all i'd like ICS but seems the optimus 2x isn't that far yet
There are indeed two cm kangs in the dev section, from Temasek and koboltzz. So you can choose between them. Also, these kangs are far better than the official cm nighties and the latest stable. So, in fact you can choose between the two, or official cm of course.
Sent from my LG-Stone from the Prehistory....
Naaaahh... Just kidding!
CM7.2 Temasek KANG P204-30
Ironkernel (Vadonkas KANG)
You should use the latest Temasek kang imo, these are kangs more up-to-date because the normal CM7-nightlies are not going to be updated anymore. (before ICS)
I have used almost every single rom on XDA on my Optimus 2X, and I must say that the temasek kang (i'm at build 27) + Vadonka's kang kernel is the best combination I have had so far. It's super-smooth, stable and amazingly fast. Compared to the stock LG-firmwares it is a very noticable difference, especially because stock LG-roms have serious memory leak issues which causes huge slowdown after using your phone for a few days without rebooting. (this is very annoying)
CM7 is also much faster with browsing, the stock browser on CM7 is a lot faster than the android browser on LG's roms. (don't know why). Moreover the multi-tasking with latest CM7 kang+vadonka kernel is very good, memory management is excellent.
You should also look at the Baseband (BB) that you have on your O2X. You could update your O2X with LG's updater, which updates to 725 Baseband
You should remember: Cyanogenmod7 (CM7) does not change or flash your baseband. RIL and BB are different, CM7 only contains a RIL, which is a small part of the firmware that can easily be changed by using the Android App GetRil from the market. Most of the time a matching RIL-BB is the best. ( So BB 725 with RIL 725). All CM7 roms contain the RIL 218 so you might need to update your RIL with the GetRil app (1 minute, very easy app)
It's recommended to use baseband 725 with RIL 725 or RIL 218 (both seem to work fine, you should try by yourself)
It seems like you are already experienced enough, to flash your O2X, it's not very difficult.(optional:update to latest LG rom for latest Baseband)
Then: Root(see post on this forum, oneclickroot etc. doesn't work). This method also includes ClockWorkMod recovery, so all you need to do after this is copying the CM7 Kang (+kernel if you want) to your Phone, reboot into recovery and flash.
Both kangs are quite good, and I don´t know if u wanna consider miui, but I like it quite a lot. u might wanna check out vadonka´s o ironkernel with those. the first one has a little more battery life.
No miui for me
Thanks for the information!
Lets hope we get Tegra2 ICS drivers fast! Flashed a beta on my current HD2 and i really like it!
Could only get 1ghz singlecores which do have ICS beta's or this Optimus 2x which has a dualcore and a far more powerfull GPU - lets hope the gamble pays off

But it isn't a big advantage over the linked method as posted by TrymHansen, since he needs to install CWM anyway...

Aha sorry, good to know
if you want to use CM7 then you should flash the kang either temasek one or koboltz up to you. since CM7 doesn't release the nightly, maybe they just release straight to CM9 don't know.
but there is still another rom such as miui, and stock rom which is already tweaked and there are many kernels for this phone both for stock and CM and miui
see the development section and happy flashing
I think MIUI ROMs are great!
You should also check out wajk's MIUI ROM. Its really great!

SuperOneclick (latest) worked only kinda for me.
It did in fact root the phone but only until reboot.
It did however give me the chance to install CWM and then CM7.
But if you're using SuperOneClick then it doesn't matter. I mean just install CM7 straight off and then have CM7 flash CWM.
That's how I did it the second time and it felt like the easiest way.

just use any guide, and it should work fine
Hi guys,
Currently i just rooted my phone and successfully install CM7 KANG by Koboltz (sorry if i spell it wrong ) ..many thanks bro for the KANGin... It really smooth and trouble free from my experience using it for 2 weeks now
Now I really want to take my O2X to the next level by try to install custom kernel on it .. and my choice is Vadonka's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1427646
However i always failed to install the recent Update 2012.01.17 .. any version i tried I always got bootloop on CM7 logo...always stuck there and wont go in to the system.
The only Vadonka's kernel i managed to install successfully is LGE-KaNG_120109 its super smooth and stable but i got a bug that i cant play my PES 2012 on it -- PES always stuck on konami logo and then force close.
anybody have the same problem with me ?
Is there any way i cant play PES 2012 on that kernel (LGE-KaNG_120109).. or is there any settings that i need to change ?
And are there any way to know what causing bootloop on Vadonka's newest kernel ? -- maybe is there something i need to do to diagnostic this maybe ?
(yes i did all the clean / wipe stuff before and after installing) but still it bootloop on CM7 logo on newest kernel.
other than that Vadonka has created or KANG one of the best kernel i think for o2x -- at least that is what my friend said
but still thanks to Vadonka
Thanks in advance for any help guys
UPDATE:
I tried Vadonka's latest Update 2012.01.18 but it still give me bootloop on CM7 logo.
I did try to use init remover by Vadonka to remove init script
I did try to disable compcache in CM7 setting
I did wipe cache and dalvik
Still i'm not able to boot
Try temasek's kang (link in signature) maybe this will work.
I see, I will try temasek's KANG... been actually thinking ti change rom but still learning about this rom and kernel stuff.
Thanks for the advice

I'm running Temasek kang and it is quite good.

Temasek rules!...
I use "CherryPics" Kernel (for CM7/Kang) with it
May be a driver/hardware module that causes your phone to hang and some other versions? (these parts are very "ROM specific" or Kernel inclusions...)
Yes I did try to use Temasek's kang #50 now, but still unable to use Vadonka's latest kernel.
Well on the good side, Temasek's kang #50 is bullet fast and rock stable for me. .. and after applying androidon tweak its just like bullet covered in butter.
I must say many thanks to Temasek, AndroidON and surely CM team and every other coder.
But I still kinda curious to try Vadonka's kernel....hope better luck next time

Vadonka's kernel on 9 January is working fine, but still got several apps wont run on it .. one example is PES 2012, which always freeze and yhen fc.
I see that he is building new kernel (ETaNa).. wonder if this one might work ? I mean is it completely new? Cause I see its said that the installer will recognize something

Same issue here, after the jan09 version, i got a bootloop. Etena version same issue.
I would like to ask if I install custom kernel that is released by vadonka (the latest one is 30 Jan). Is there any problem if I flashed hybrid revolution v3.1 with the latest one??

I'm not sure about this but afaik vadonka made a lot of tweak along with his kernel and that might conflict with tweak in gueste rom .. please correct me if I'm wrong.
I think its better to wait kernel only installer from vadonka or you can try temasek kernel only.
I would like to try gueste 3.1 rom but maube I'll wait for it this weekend.

You can try out IronKrnl . The 32MB version has been stable for me for the last two days . And I have infact patched IronKrnl with Vadonka's init.d AIO tweaks and trying that out now . Vadonka's kernel was fast when I had it on my O2X but I experienced frequent FC's with the phone radio so I reverted back to stock CM7 kernel and patched IronKrnl . Having said that I think Vadonka's kernel is likely to be newer and more optimised if it gets stable
Always take a Nandroid backup of the existing stock & stable image before flashing a new kernel . It saves a lot of a headache . And to flash a totally different kernel I would recommend you to revert to stock and then flash the new kernel . The faster way would be to revert only the boot.img file but that might leave behind some stray settings .
also i have problem with the newest etana kernel by vadonka, it makes the cpu getting hot , and dont know why
Try to flash back prior to installing vadonka's kernel. Apparently there are some issues with his current kernel that I've experienced as well so it's better off with the stock kernel.
Currently I'm stick with Temasek kang #55 and with default kernel. Its been very stable and smooth for a week now, and u don't even have charging BSOD again since I set the screen awake while charging.
Latest Temasek kang #58 is out now, and I have yet to decide if I want to use it or use Gueste 3.1
Anyone tried gueste 3.1 from CM 7 without data wipe? ? ( only cache and dalvik wipe) cause I don't want to install all my programs from scratch. Is it even possible, since gueste 3.1 is also based on CM 7 ?
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Hi,
I've been using Gueste 3.2 hybrid revolution for a day now, and i muat admit this is the smoothest rom i ever use in my entire o2x life.
The stock lg launcher is covered with butter. I even try to install go launcher ex, and ita still very smooth like never before.
Then i say many many thanks to Mr. Temasek for his Kang efforts and Mr. Stefan for this smooth rom.
My other experience today is for the pimp my cpu app always ask for super user privilege ... I always set to allow and tick on the remember box ... but it always keep asking.
For that i maybe a noob because i don't know how to sett the proper super user... but no impact on performance whatsoever until now.
Anybody know how to use pimp my cpu ? or atleast make it not keep asking for super user privilege. ?
I'm currently using Temasek Cm 7 kernel + voodoo sound dated 7 feb 2012 .. downloaded from Temasek mediafire.
Thanks in advance

I cant reclamation because i have Root
Sorry for english.
Hi!
At least you got root, that makes things easier...
Anyway, the thing is, you actually need to read yourself in order to choose the best rom... But, I can give you my opinion.
The best custom rom so far is in my opinion Temaseks CM7 KANG (my signature). I know CM9 is already available to us, thanks to our awesome developers , but it's still in alpha phase and not everything is working properly, So if I were you I would stick to CM7 until CM9 totally works. (which shouldn't take very long) But, it's your choice obviously...
Make sure to make a full backup though when you want to flash either CM7 or CM9, because you need to wipe everything when you come from stock...
Yeah he's right - in my opinion, try temasek's latest 71- its quite stable and awesome .....
Wipe everything after backup before flashing any rom so that everything works good

Personnaly i use CM7 nightly With kernel swiftextrem power save.
Sorry, i can't give you the links of download because i am new user.

hi , the best rom is cm7 temasek 72..
make sure u do a full nandroid backup first and when u want to come back to stock rom remember to convert to ext3 filesystem first of restore the backup..
To increase the volume like stock rome use the app volume+, and to increase the camera photo and videos quality install stock camera mod by Kostia..
Hope this helps..
Cheers

I use AOKP Mileston 4. In this rom there are same bugs of CM9 (no decoding/encoding video, some app for ICS are glitchy), but there rom is quite stable and smooth.
Also Temasek Kang CM7 with EtAna kernel by vadonka is a good choice =)
For me, the Chuck Norris Edition 1.1 is the most stable and fastest ROM!
Try it and luv it!

CyanogenMod (CM) 9 is really outdated. If you want a good, fast ROM I can recommend Slimbean. It's largely based on CM. You can find more info here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060374
Detailed instructions can be found in that thread and on the slimrom website.
Coming from Gingerbread you'll need to install CM10 first, otherwise you will lose your IMEI, which will render your phone unable to make or place calls. Once on CM10 you can then flash Slimbean.
Or using an newer version of CM

Did some1 had any problems with semaphore kernel ? like bricking the phone? is it stable?
Is anyone at the current time having cm10 with smaphore kernel overclocking at 1.2ghz ?
Does Sgs i9k support the overclock stable?

You flash semaphore the same way you flashed your rom and it will replace stock cm kernel your rom will stay the same make sure you flash the right version to avoid any bricking. It makes cm run better. Overclock depends on your phone some people can overclock high some not so much. Download semaphore changer governor to sio and liveoc to 110% and set min frequenci 400Mhz. That should be enough to make it supper smooth

EDIT: make sure after flashing to download semaphore manager from the playstore its like a control panel for semaphore where all the settings are and i repeat make sure you flash the right version for your android version and phone i9000.

I don't get it why do you want to flash another kernel? Aren't you happy now with smooth CM10.1x? Here on this forum are many flashing freaks who flash and overclock their phones until the device completely crashes.
CM10.1x is excellent already way it is, if you want to even improve it (first of all to get about double battery life) just upgrade it to the newest nightly version of CM10.2 tomorrow (build 20130828), it will finally have all bigger bugs fixed. Very soon, stable CM.10.2 build will be released out of this nightly. This is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385178
If you want to do it, just mind that the developer (pawitp) doesn't mention anymore installing gapps, so this would be the workflow from your present ROM:
Do a Nandroid Backup of your CM10.1.2 build before the upgrade!
Go to CWM recovery mode and check first in "install zip" if your zips of the CM10.2 and Gapps for 4.3 are visible on your internal SD card
Wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache (under "advanced")
Install the nightly ROM zip from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Install Gapps for CM10.2 (Android version 4.3) while still in recovery
Restore /data from Nandroid Backup (the update will wipe your /data) while still in recovery
Reboot system
The partition layout of CM10.2 (beginning from 20130816 nightly) differs of that of CM10/CM10.1. The first install will wipe your /data to switch to the new layout, but after that you may use CWM to restore/backup data of CM10/10.1/10.2 (in CWM recovery under "advanced restore" then "restore data" from your CM10.1 nandroid backup)
This way done, you should have all data, wallpaper, widgets and apps like in your CM10.1 right after the reboot. And wait until tomorrow, when the 20130828 nightly gets released. I've been using "buggy" builds (nightlies between 24 and 27 Aug) without any problems, but some people had problems with them.
